  • It's been just over one year since I started hybrid training, so I wanted to share my progress in terms of strength, fitness and body composition. I've called it a transformation, you might call it a minor revision; either way I hope we can all agree it makes a mildly entertaining RUclips video 🤣

    Your humility is truly remarkable given your impressive lifts and running times. People often compare natural athletes to those who are enhanced, which can distort their perception of what constitutes genuine achievement. Your transformation over the past year is genuinely impressive. You've inspired me to elevate my fitness and trust the process. This channel is a treasure, offering honesty and quality that I deeply appreciate.

    Great video Andrew! I love how dedicated you are but also very realistic and manageable for people who live busy lives/don’t get paid just to spend all day in the gym! I think it’s clear how much the hybrid training has done for you! Can’t wait to see more!

    I’ve just started recovery from having different eating disorders over the last year and a half. Your videos really do inspire me to find balance in being healthy both physically and mentally, as well as with diet and working out. Your mentality around training and nutrition, and the balance you have really is an inspiration to were I want to get too with my recovery:)) keep it up!!!!

    Great progress and Video.
    similar but less extreme story for me over the last year and a half, only running came first and as I got injured, I switched to learning freestyle swimming + resistance training during the winter.
    Now running is back in the mix and I hope for more resilience because of better strength overall.

    Just followed you on Strava! As I was watching your video, I was trying to think about my own transformation with the hydrid training... I wish I had kept track of the numbers a little bit better, but it will definitely be a goal for the future. Great video!

      To be honest if I wasn’t doing this RUclips channel it would be harder to keep track of my own numbers. They don’t mean everything but sometimes nice to look back and see how far you’ve come. Happy training 😊

    truly impressed! Back years and years ago in my early 20's I had the same three lifts close to where you're at, but no way in hell I'd think about adding running over a 5k to that. Amazing.

    Great video mate have loved watching your tips and advice on this channel, hopefully looking to start training and doing a ultra myself as it’s one the only distances I haven’t done
    I do think sometimes there can be pressure to stay light for running at times but I also know I’m healthier with more muscle

    Wow amazing times and lifts! I’m a similar weight to you and have been lifting/running for a couple of years (am 27) but seem to have plateaued at much lower numbers (1RMs: 80kg bench, 100kg squat, 140kg deadlift, 22 min 5k) - I guess I still have a long way to go with training! Inspirational to know that reaching this level is possible doing both kinds of training though! Great video 😁

      Solid numbers mate especially as someone who’s a good runner too 💪🏼 Progress will come as you long as you just keep turning up and don’t get injured 😂 happy training!!

    Love your videos, you’ve come along way. As a previous competitive powerlifter. How do you find running post a leg session ? Do you keep to your 3x5 sessions or have you tried lower weight higher reps say around 12, for more endurance. Be keen to know ? Cheers

    Great video Andrew! I do a similar split in the gym at the moment and looking to get into running too. What’s your advice with this as I’m someone who’s not run before other than on a treadmill? Thank you, keep up the awesome work!

    • @AndrewRussellFitness

      Start somewhere nice and flat, make it as low maintenance as possible so run from your front door if possible. Try and find some greenery, parks are good, and start off with 1 or 2 20 minute runs a week. Take it easy and build slowly from there as you much as you feel is comfortable. You’ll figure it out just need to get started 👊🏼

    Im now trying to start hybrid as ive lost alot of power and endurance in the legs after breaking my left knee back in 2018 and because of the break i had to retire from semi professional football. Im still struggling now from the injury as my right side has compensated from the Injury and now have issues with the right leg, pelvis ans back but determined to get back deadlifting, squatting and running again

    I think going from sub 20 in a 5k to sub 40 in a 10k is solid progress. The former is way more than just newbie gains. I wish I’d spent more time focusing on the 10k after my 5k PB plateaued. I jumped up to marathon and it wasn’t sustainable. You’re doing great and I look forward to what you do next. Maybe try the Cooper run test to determine VO2max.

    • @AndrewRussellFitness
      @AndrewRussellFitness  10 дней назад +1

      That’s what I love about the hybrid approach, anytime you plateau in one single distance or lift, no worries you can just move onto the next thing 😂 thanks for the comment and will have a look at the Cooper test 👍🏼

    How do you run if you can't get free time in morning as well as in the evening ???
    And apart from this it was an informative video who has just started doing hybrid traing . lots of ❤

      I was talking about how my shift patterns in ED are predominantly evening or night shifts. So if I do an evening shift, I am therefore free in the morning to work out/do life admin etc

    I’ve always cycled, ever since I got my first bike when I was kid. I’ve had two knee injuries because of it and now I walk slightly crooked and my back immediately hurts when I run, even when I walk uphill for a while i feel it’s getting worse. I am doing deadlifts and roman chair but doesn’t help at all to strengthen my lower back. But I want to run as well but am too scared it will hurt terrible and won’t even be able to walk for days after running

    For running 400 m, 1500 m, and 5k. I don't think longer distances than that are beneficial to everyday life or to health (no elite marathoner looks healthy to me).

  • @Redterror1919
    @Redterror1919 11 дней назад

    If you pumped up the mileage and specialised more in the running, you'd be running 36-37 mins for 10k and comfortably 17 min 5k's relatively quickly (or even faster times.). If you're breaking 40 min 10k without structured workouts/VO2/Threshold work or any progressive approach to any faster running, then that is a really really good position to be in.
    Are you tempted to periodise your training in future with more "specific" running or lifting blocks rather than a generally balanced week to week schedule?

    • @AndrewRussellFitness
      @AndrewRussellFitness  10 дней назад

      Interesting thought, right now I still feel comfortable that I’m making steady progress with this more balanced approach and after the ultra, my running mileage will drop and I’ll have more space for some more intense structured workouts like you mentioned. So open to the idea of periodising in future but at least these next 6 months I think I can keep squeezing the last bit of juice out my current approach. Food for thought though so thanks for the comment 👍🏼

    So when you're focused on lifting, how do you maintain your cardio? Does it go down much? And how much?
    And same question the other way.
    Sorry for the bombarding questions. I'm just trying to get real with myself on expectations 😅

    • @AndrewRussellFitness
      @AndrewRussellFitness  10 дней назад

      I do both simultaneously so run and lift. It means my total lifting volume is lower than it would be if I didn’t run and same with running if I didn’t lift. So the two don’t really impact on one another once you’re accustomed to them and if you’re recovering right, it just means progress won’t be as fast in either discipline than if you were doing them independently because your training volumes are effectively halved.

    Hey man great job. Only critique is don’t lean back like that when deadlifting. Stop when you are straight up otherwise you are training a disc herniation in your lower back.
