- It's truly, truly, truly pathetic. One of the worst adaptations ever has to be seen to be believed. How does the Jem and the Holograms movie compare the 80s cartoon?

Wow, they manipulated footage of fans of the old show to look like they're talking about the main protagonist of the movie that has little to nothing to do with it? Not only is that lazy, but that's also very dishonest, untrustworthy, and shameful of them.
I know right!? It's despicable. >:(
Tilt your head all the way to the right, and I think a crowd of these faces should fit the appropriate reaction to something like that:
D=
Sounds like the same shit Sony's pulling with Ghostbusters.
Also the clips of the stars are from unrelated interviews, such as Chris Pratt talking about his childhood crush on Jen when he was seven, or the rock talking about Taylor swift
It be like me making a video talking about how much I love Batman. Only to have it end up in Batman and Robin.
Or talking about Godzilla, and sticking it into the 1998 remake smh,
I can't think of a worse slap in the face to a fanbase.
And people say Micheal Bay's Transformers was bad, Jem and the Holograms is truly is one of the worst adaptations of all time. Just gonna put that in with Dragon Ball Evolution.
At least DB Evolution had Dragonballs.... and not much else.
sweetcinnamonpnchkin It's like they're trying to piss off the long time fans, and turn newcomers off the franchise. They obviously hate the source material.
Those Attack on Titan movies were pretty bad...
John Paul Jones I never saw either the anime or the movie, so I'll take your word for it. I know what it's like to love something only to see an adaptation fuck it all up.
watch the anime, you'll at least be able to tell who is who
My best friend named her baby sister after Jerica from the show. Of course, Jerica had to go see this film opening weekend. She HATED it.
Sabrina Loizides-Merideth I don't blame her
Miss Moxie same
Sabrina Loizides-Merideth i feel bad for them
Awww that's a horrible shame... show her the cartoon and tell her the Jem movie wasn't really Jem
The Aegis I agree with that statement
I was living in a homeless shelter in 2015 when this movie was released, I had a better time dealing with my homelessness than I did when I finally watched this movie.
That is so funny lmao.
Damn! Lmfaooo. Well I hope your life is better now 💕
Hope ur back on ur feet my friend! God bless u with a better life!
My Condolences
Damn that’s crazy to hear.
No, the biggest insult was not letting the original creator work on the movie script when she asked to be on board for the movie.
WHAT? Loses faith in modern media
Celi Pop wow ain't that a bitch! they didn't want to pay what they worth.
Then why the hell's teeth did they make the movie?
This isn't going to make money because it's not promoting anything little girls would buy. It's messing with nostalgia. Who was this made for?
Hell, even Last Airbender can say it had a purpose.
and worst of all, the woman at the end talking to "Rio" IS the Original Writer! One cameo and nothing else for the woman who made a hit 80s cartoon series for girls!
Celi Pop that's what I call a nut burst.
Fun fact: I worked in a movie theater while this film was out. And as far as I can recall, there was NEVER A SINGLE PERSON in the one theater where we screened this garbage. Hell, we didn't even "screen" it. We left the lights on and the screen blank while the movie's audio played.
Wow!
Dominick Benincasa Yeah. It was THAT bad.
oh my gOD i just died laughing
you could have goofed around while the audio played and it would have been more interesting than that!
You could've done shadow puppets on the screen and it would've been more interesting than the movie.
I'm not a Jem fan but I'm offended for them.
Thank god they all died of cocaine overdoses long before this abomination was made. 🌈⭐️
Marshmallow Pie Thanks. 😊😃
The movie is a reimagining in its own universe of the Jem animated series. The animated series is awesome, but I don't like, nor care for the movie as it is so far removed and unrecognisable from the animated series. 😃
I'm not a Jem fan either and even I feel offended by these people's actions.
Poeticphyre It’s absolutely disgusting how they literally manipulated people’s love to falsely support the abomination they shoved at us. Really just shows you how snarky Hollywood has gotten to be. What’s worse is that the director Chu simply laughed at the mountains of angry fan mail he received. Really shows you how little he cared for them, for the source material, and even to the average movie goer. I too am not a fan, never seen an episode, but it too filled me with anger to see a fan group so poorly betrayed on such a low level. They didn’t just discard the source material, they tried to manipulate the people’s love and channel it towards the garbage they made. Even for Hollywood standards, that was a new level of low.
Just being a decent human being gives you that right. This is an insult to humanity, not just to a cartoon.
Why does everyone sounds robotic except the robot itself
Peewee Herman awesome username
Maybe they are also robots
I think the biggest problem of this movie, besides completely disregarding the entire Jem mythos, was that it was trying to modernize a clearly 80's cartoon. By updating it to the 21st century, it completely erased any chance of properly recreating the look, feel and core style of what people growing up with Jem liked about the cartoon.
Plus we have our own 21st Century Jem: It's called Hannah Montana
yep
Actually, you can update an 80s franchise for the 21st century and still make it good.
The IDW Jem series is incredibly faithful to the source material; while making it relevant to the present day.
Madame Fluffy Maybe but I always saw it as like trying to update... Grease into modern times. You could replace Danny's greaser outfit with a varsity jacket but it would take away from the personality and feel of the characters from that time
Ben Wasserman
In the IDW comic, you don't have that problem. The characters are still very much in character to the original 80s characters. The only things that have been changed is the era, body image (not everyone has a thin frame), Kimber is a lesbian and Jetta is black.
Minor changes, and easily forgivable.
Unlike this movie - which shat on everything,
Madame Fluffy Good to know. Thanks for telling me :)
This movie doesn't even get the current generation right.
Nobody does. Everyone either thinks we're selfish, lazy and entitled, or the most awesome people to grace the humble earth with our presence. Like why can't we just be regular people?
Scott Calo on top of that the range for "millennials" is from like 86-2000. so all the demographic data includes 30-16 year olds. I don't think it's understood yet how diverse so-called "millennials" are. we're also somehow killing several industries despite having less money than previous generations when they were our age. and we're somehow weaker because we understand the concept of inclusion and accessibility.
princesstamika And, you know, people that are different than us might actually be worth knowing or at least respecting?
I don't think it's even a movie...It's more just...a thing...
ThePhoenixMeifwa
Well, PhantomStrider callsed it a "middle finger to the entire millennial generation". That sounds about right.
Endgame did the whole "Dead father talking to daughter and giving her advice through hologram" thing way better
Something something I love you 3000.
HA! 100% GUARANTEED
To be fair, it's not like this is something particulary difficult to do.
And Spider-Man: Homecoming did the whole "open up with a vlog from the protagonist" thing way better.
@@charliewatson8405 I guess it's safe 2 say that the MCU did Jem better in multiple moovies than Jem did in won. Also, did you know that Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip (which came after Jem) also opened with vlog from the protagonists? That shows how much they cared. *sarcasm* Fun Fact: Jon M. Chu (who directed the Jem movie) is directing In the Heights. WATCH OUT!!!
At least with GI Joe and Transformers, they TRIED to stay as true to the source material as possible, while updating it for the modern times. I mean, they didn't even TRY with this. It was almost like they had a sequel to Hanna Montana as a script lying around and someone said, "hey, this would make a good Jem and the Holograms adaptation." The A-Team was better than this. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 4-5 years ago was better than this. Hell, Duke Nukem FOREVER was better than this! As a fan of the '80s, Jem fans got ousted big time on a shill in for corporate studios. What were they thinking?
Nah Hannah Montana was funny this is just boring.
At least with GI Joe and the Transformers movies, there are some moments that I had fun watching.
I couldn't sit through 15 minutes of Jem & The Holograms without zoning off.
Duke Nukem Forever at least still had Duke being his politically incorrect, womanizing self. It still had Duke. This has no Jem.
@@northwindkey yeah they kept true to his character just turned out we had grown up this bitch has no resemblence it sucks even more when you realize that good reboots like Doom and Wolfinstine the new order exist.
Oh no...we found something worse than Bay-formers!
>Main character's name is Jerica
>Antagonists's name is Erica
You know they've got some good writers on that team.
Do you understand the grand total of thirty minutes they spent making the script, it was very important that they not care about what their writting or even if it's consistent. Seriously though these guys need to be banned from making movies.
RedfurredPikachu
I recently spent 30 minutes writing something resembling a script, and I can assure you that my casting which currently has 2 characters is already better than this "movie".
Erica Raymond was actually supposed to be eric raymond, but he was gender swapped for some reason
and him and rio weren't related its like most adaption movies total cop-outs ie resident evil, and many video game titles this makes mario bros movie seem better in comparison and thats saying something
"our songs are better... we're gonna get her." Wow incredible! Such a well written poetic line
"Kimber hit a C note."
Procedes to slide all over the octave
hit a carnage note
Hit a C note? More like Hit me with an axe in the neck, killing me.
*Hands baseball bat* Hit me as hard as you can.
+Memes McGee HIT IT LIKE YU DONT CARE, HIT IT IF YOU AINT SCARED!
Hit a C note then sing up a octave
“Would you shut up we are trying to sleep!” 😂😂😂
That Intro song was better then the movie itself
Critc
NC can do intros to most of his reviews that are better than most of the movies he reviews. His opening for Dragonball was the best example.
Not very high praise.
Tamara's version was better
Truth
I think that was the most insulting thing about the movie when they used people who sent in clips of themselves talking about the cartoon. That sounded like really deep stuff, talking about how Jem (the ORIGINAL AND REAL JEM) helped them, and then cut and paste them into the movie. Shame movie, shame
I know. That's so....evil.
I think the creators hated the show and did all this just to spite fans of it.
nintendolife25 you don't know what's evil
It's something that Eric would do.
They actually have the gall to charge the movie $9.99 on RUclips!!
What's hilarious is that I guarantee that more people have seen this review than ever saw the actual movie.
arizonatsunami
Well this review has probably been out 10x longer than the actual movie.
How would a review of a movie come out before the movie it's reviewing?
mach6247 what you just said is stupid
exactly
You've passed the boundary of nonsense, far into the realm of "wot fuck" speech.
"Does this feel right to you?"
"I don't know.. I mean the chart says-" SMACK "...Thank you."
love that XD
So, that part with Chris Pratt and The Rock? Well here is the truthe.
The part with The Rock when he was talking about the song in the movie "Young Blood", he was actually talking about Bad Blood by Talor Swift.
The part with Chris Pratt joking about dating Jem, that was actually from an interview with Pratt about The LEGO Movie, where he joked about pretending to date his sister's Jem dolls.
That shows just how lazy the producers are; they used archived videos of The Rock and Chris Pratt and edited them to look like they were talking about the Jem in the movie.
So evil
SATAN IS A DIRECTOR
Your Stereotypical Horse Poop They were just talking about Jem the cartoon, not the movie.
Holy shit you're right
It’s because of the movie’s low budget.
the pen-in-the eye gag was fucking fantastic, kudos to presumably Jim

Okay, there's shitty adaptations that don't give a damn about the source material(Dragonball Evolution), there's adaptations that completely miss the point of the original(Scooby Doo), there's even adaptations that seem ASHAMED of their origins(Fant4stic), but none of those were downright SCUMMY enough to edit fan comments about the source material and re-edit it to make it seem like praise for their piece-of-shit adaptation. THAT is a new low that even the most morally bankrupt companies I can think of have yet to sink to. EA itself didn't try to steal the acclaim from the original Star Wars Battlefront game. These assholes have officially out-assholed EA.
“Fun” fact: the people who made this abomination to existence itself also made the Bieber documentary
Honestly, it made too much sense
"fun"
@@dragonempress8367 What did Justin Bieber have to do with Jem & the Holograms?
@@camillae9539 just the director who made the doc.

That's a new creepypasta
Like! Zoinks!
+Emily Galvan no, the fact that it was released in theaters and starred rob schinder is terrifying.
And I thought Dragonball Evolution was a terrible live-action adaptation that slapped fans in the face.
Dragonball Evolution was just a very bad adaptation that changed a lot of stuff from Dragonball and Dragonball Z. (Really just makes both shows look better in comparison) At least they didn't straight up insult the fans.
Bernard Skripek did you know the writer publicly apologized for the adaptation? He claims didn't know too much about the material but it was last minute hashed because...deadlines
***** so it was doomed from the start
It was but at least James Wong didn't manipulate the audience in the worst way possible like in this movie.
The one good thing that came from DB Evolution was Toriyama's return to writing Dragon Ball, due to how terrible DB Evolution was.
I'm not a gem fan but I feel angry for then
Jessica Carlton *them
*jem
We all do, it’s not a problem of just being a Jem fan it’s a problem of they screwed over an entire fanbase some of which were literally helped by the show to feel like they mattered. It’s sickening what these people did
14:01
Synergy: I was in a movie
EVE: I got an Oscar.
BB-8: I'm a meme now.
Pfff
Now this days bb8 would be the one in shame
If it brings the manipulated fans any comfort, the celebrity clips were manipulated too. They're all clips, that I believe are available online, and are them talking about something else. The Jimmy Fallon and Alicia Keys interview is them geeking out about the original cartoon and singing the "Truly, Truly, Truly Outrageous" song. The Chris Pratt clip is him joking in an interview about how he use to pretend to date his sister's Jem dolls when he was a kid.
And the saddest of them all; Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Is a clip of a video he posted talking about Taylor Swfit's Bad Blood. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH JEM. In the movie the girls make a song called Young Blood. It's not even about the original cartoon,
These celebrities were not paid or asked to be in this movie; the clips are ripped from youtube and vine.
WOW that's shady
That's horrible. I wonder if the celebs saw this.
Sammyyam I don't think so, I haven't seen anything about them responding to or speaking about it. None of them seem to know this movie exists or they just don't care. Can't blame them, if they don't. I mean, I don't think anything of them are crying that they got screwed out of that sweet Jem and the Hologram cash. Still, such a lame move to proclaim that they have "celebrity cameos"
"Young Blood" ripped off Fall Out Boy too. Fuck it. I hate everyone who thought the movie was a good idea.
I wonder if anyone can sue this movie?
They actually did that to all the videos of fans of the original cartoon?! That is low, I can't believe they did that
In Bohemian Rhapsody, they had people sing and they put it in the movie when they get to the Live Aid part.
Something tells me that someone's gonna sue John M. Chu for that.
give M. bay credit he didn't go this low
Jessie Beck From what I heard from other Jem fans online, he got all the people who made videos on RUclips (which, I believe, all the videos are still here) of how Jem inspired them etc, to sign wavers, so Jon M Chu, Jason Blum, Scooter Braun, other producers etc, wouldn't be sued and couldn't be sued by the fans of the animated series. 😲
Funtime Freddy Other people online and on RUclips videos (especially about the reviews of the Jem movie by Andre Meadows, The Black Nerd and Kitana Blade of Vixen Vs Gamer) have given Michael Bay credit for not doing what Jon M Chu, Jason Blum (who has since apologised about this movie last year), Scooter Braun etc did. 😃
Synergy had the personality of Jem's mom in her programming in the original so she was an interesting addition when she had more than a couple seconds in the story. This is annoying
Big knife fight breaks out.
“Timmy, hit a C note!”
*Proceeds to sing an entire scale*
Me: I SAID ONE NOTE!!
😂😂
15:57 Fun fact, about those celebrity cameos by Chris Pratt and Dwayne Johnson? Instead of actually getting them to cameo in the film, they just took archived interviews and reworked the context so it would seem like they were talking about Jem. For instance, Chris Pratt joked about dating Jem, but that was from an interview for The LEGO Movie where he talked about pretending to date his sister’s Jem dolls. As for Dwayne Johnson, they had him talking about the song Bad Blood by Taylor Swift rather than Young Blood from this movie.
wow, the filmmakers are really assholes! Editing something not related to the source material (aside a mention) in a movie adaptation and manipulating it is not a professional move, to be honest. Is just like the director is saying: "oh, this cartoon was part of your childhood? So let me take a shit on it and I can be rich for just a moment while my career will be drowned mercilessly and your innocence is being ruined."
Marci Stahl That’s just sad.
Talk about lazy, geez
OF COURSE THEY DID
That so called C note was about 5 or 6 different notes at once.
C NOTE YOU BIMBOS!! NOT C MELODY!!! If I was Molly Ringwald, I would have said that. No wonder you guys lasted ONE concert!!
Hello, my fellow music geeks!
I know right! It bothered me so much that these so called "musicians" didn't know what the definition of singing a single note is.
As a school band member for 7 years, I was offended.
26:24 No, I got a better example. That’s like having people talking about how much they love the Lion King, and then editing it to make it look like you’re talking about the live action remake!!! That…is so stupid. Smh
Or, if Cartoon Network tells people what they like about the ORIGINAL Teen Titans, then editing it out and making them talk about TTG. That would cause me to sue Warner Bros. for that horrible idea.
I'm not even a Jem fan, but if I were, I would probably hate this so much!!
I'm not a fan and I hate everything about this movie
Yes with a Passion to bomb burn it like secret of nihm 2 or the animated titanic movies yes yes just yes
Or the Disney Star wars continuation
"the movie was so bad it was pulled form theaters in two weeks."
Well no wodner I never heard of this shit stain of a movie till now
It's not been shown in the uk since it was advertised two years ago so i guess someone noticed its bad
+Grainne Quinn
I live in the USA. I never knew this movie existed. I saw zero ads for it
+Tananda Lynch hmm.... I think there's a connection here someone's probably working behind the scenes to make sure it doesn't get released anywhere else...ok it's more of a theory. I don't get why 'Jem' randomly copies Lady Gaga's outfit in the movie 😱
I live in the USA and I only saw 1 ad for it
same
Anyone notice Kesha was in the post credit scene, like the poor girl hasn't been through enough
Sara Katherine I actually paused it as she was speaking and said, "Kesha, what are you doing?? This is just insulting to yourself. -_-"
Brian Humerez I bet you were saying through most of the past decade too
"I'm the Nostalgia Critic. I remember it even if I don't want to."

10:22 11:08 explain me the rage reasons
@@mrrunodan8119 I had to look it up, but;
Rio is the technical engineer and road manager for the band, as well as Jem's boyfriend in the cartoon. Here, he's reduced to a bodyguard
Zipper is an antagonist in the cartoon, working with the Misfits. He even attempted murder in the cartoon
@@drakeware655 so for Zipper is a Maleficent situation
@@mrrunodan8119 Not exactly. That would imply Zipper was seen again
So Jerica went from an intelligent, quick thinking woman to a shy, moany kid. How can things be so backwards.
That's Hollywood for ya.
Hollywood does a strong female character and every basement dwelling incel has a fit. They do a weak and silly ones and people still complain.
The problem is that they rarely make good strong female characters because they do it to tap into a market trend as supposed to trying to make a good character. Because of the marketing origin of many strong female characters, they are heavily advertised as such, leading to many picking up on this trend, leading to many having an instinctive negative reaction to heavily advertised and pandering strong female characters. It makes it feel forced and too artificial. It's why people don't like the Ms. Marvel trailer but like Black Widow.
Basically blame out of touch Hollywood executives for everything wrong with films.
@@DanaTheInsane Hollywood doesn't know how to make strong female characters. Most of the time it comes across as a Mary sue because they make characters with little to no flaws.
Flanderization,presumably.
HEY! guys who made this movie! I've got a great idea for your next film.

25:50 that is...EVIL! There’s no other word that’s just plain evil, there should be a petition for the people who did this to apologize to the fans who recorded themselves and give them compensation.
Agreed. It's Disgusting
Im sure that when the mother asked for the c note she sang like 5 different notes.
at least Pitch Perfect got that part right

You won the interwebs today
You know, when Nostalgia Critic jokes that "I got confused with all the other robots in this movie" he was just talking about the actors in this movie.
This movie: lives
Doug: "You're a crook. You're a cheat and a swindler! That's what you are! How could you do a thing like this, build up a little girls hopes like that and dash her dreams to peices! You're an inhuman monster-"
The movie (after losing all fanbase): "I SAID GOOD DAY, SIR!"
Initially, I thought this adaptation was to Jem fans like The Last Airbender was to ATLA fans, BUT THIS IS WORSE. The creators just slapped fans in the face with those edits. That makes me so mad and I don't even give a damn about the original source material!
The main character may have some singing talent, but she is so wooden -- KRISTEN STEWART GIVES MORE OF A DAMN IN HER MOVIES THAN THIS GIRL. I thought Kristen's narrating was bad, but this girl? Wow.
With that curtain bit with the slow-mo and dramatic music thing.... I thought that was for this video, not in the movie?! Was the director trying to be cinematic or something? Wtf?
When you said "Why not just bring back the dead father, too?!" I was honestly expecting him to come back and say he never died...
Also, the Jonas Sisters?! Your iTrashcan?! Bahahaa yes.
I know, right? At least Last Airbender followed the source material's plot elements.
As horrible as The Last Airbender is, at least it had some hilariously bad moments.
That editing thing had to be one of the most disgusting ways to manipulate the audience in the worst way possible.
XD it's so bad, Super Mario Bros looks like Citizen Kane.
ya your right. Even though m. night did a pretty poor job adapting it, it at least followed the source material(just without any of the charm). This is just terrible. Like the writers only heard of the name and wrote a script based off of that.
Oh god... The movie is so fucking awful, watching this review was difficult because the clips were so hard to watch or listen to.
I feel the exact same way.
I feel the same too.
You know, from where I come from, it was released direct-to-DVD, even though posters of the movie were seen in the cinemas from before it was released.
I lost brain-cells at the bits where they "ooo-ed". Seriously, did no-one even look the movie over to make sure it was good?
I didn't even know this movie existed until I saw a RUclips review about it. I don't think it was ever advertised where I live.
"I'll calculate the probability of me relaxing... Ha! Zero."
Same dude.
I remember watching the original Jem and the Holograms one summer back in middle school and I loved it. I even listened to the music and sang along to it afterward. The best part about the cartoon was that Synergy was so indescribably awesome then I saw the poor excuse for a robot dog commercial they tried to pass off as synergy in this movie and honestly warrants a Big Mouth anger quote from Morey (look it up). Jem was a character that was once mentioned alongside such icons as Barbie and this movie just crapped all over that. I recommend the original cartoon hands down.
Hit a C note. C is ONE note. She's hitting many notes that no one asked for.
MsSunnyMuffins Yeah she ends up singing C-D-E-G instead XD
to be honest, I'm already suprised the first one was a C at all
I think she wanted the tune in a C key; still a stupid script.
“You signed a bullshit contract that completely screws you over ? You really ARE an internet star !”
Didn’t know this had so much meaning until recent events
and it keeps on getting funnier every time i hear it.
Dude, what you read was incredibly one-sided. You're seriously taking a fucking feminazi's word over someone you've watched for years? Lindsay Ellis is full of shit. I doubt she has a single good thing to say about any man she has ever met. You can NOT trust a feminazi. For example: that scene in To Boldly Flee where she said Doug wrote in a quote unquote "rape scene" with Lewis (also a crying little bitch), was not a fucking rape scene. He was assimilating her into a robot. There was absolutely no assumption or implication that he was vaginally raping her. She went in as human, & came out a cyborg. Doug isnt always the funniest with his jokes, but he is a very intelligent, very well-spoken man with a lot to offer the world of cinema. He's the best critic since Roger Ebert to grace our ears & minds. Do your research before you just condemn a man for something he didnt do.
@@locke103 Same
Don't remind us. I never forgot
That last part about editing the videos. That is actually disgusting. It's not morally wrong. IT'S WORSE THAN MORALLY WRONG. It's so bad there's not even a word to describe the absolute disgusting atrocity that they did. I'm not a fan of Jem or anything but that is genuinely just year long headshaking worthy
19:48 this scene proves how small the world really is.
Even though I never watched Jem growing up, I feel sorry for the fans, especially those that submitted the clips. Taking the words of fans who say how they love the cartoon and expressed how the show helped them in one form or another, and edit them to make it seem they are praising the movie Jem, it's just horrible. I mean, I never saw the movie, and with this review showing all the bad things about it, I never will.
Zelda 4 Ever yeah I feel the same way. if it was just a generic remake it would be fine. but then they exploit the fans. this is not acceptable at all.
"Hit a C note"
*proceeds to sing half a scale*
Ok its kinda terrifying we both made the same joke within 4 hours without any clue to the other person would do it
I enjoyed Jem the cartoon series, and this makes me wanna cry but not in a good way
We still love you
*DONT PATRONIZE ME!*
"Viral" huh? The youtube video view count never goes past 40,000 views. Nice for a first video, especially over night, but a RECORD DEAL for that?! Erica is a terrible business executive!
Yea, i've seen thousands of girls doing covers on RUclips that sound just as good as her or way better and they get about a couple thousand views. Just more laziness from the writers.
+Cameron Peterson the entire film is lazily written and acted and directed and edited and even released as it was only in cinemas for a couple weeks
+King H that is actually quite impressive.
Not to mention she acts like a cold, greedy, and callous soon-to-be victim in a "Murder, She Wrote" episode
Yeah becoming a hit overnight isn't realistic on RUclips 😆
Jeebus! It's the Hannah Montana nightmare all over again.
Come on. It's......yeah. It kinda is.
Oh hai Phantom.
Oh hey, it's you! The guy who does the stuff! :D
Jem is worse sure Hannah Montana movie was stupid but it had Hannnah Montana. Jem had nothing resembling the cartoon
Ugh when I saw the trailer it gave me the same impression as the Hannah Montana.
27:00 Whoa. The guy in the Background's on the Ceiling.
At 7:18 I swear I can hear TASM Harry scream “I NEED YOU!”
The whole humming thing is stupid, a C note is just one note, why would they hum a melody, not to mention people can't just sing a specific note, at least not most people, there is a tiny fraction of the population with perfect pitch, the rest of us have "relative pitch", meaning if someone said sing a C note, someone who doesn't have perfect pitch, couldn't do it. You have to do it based on another note, like someone will sing a melody and then say, sing the root, then a decently good singer could do it. It just goes to show this movie about music and singing, knows Jack about music or singing
Baron11704 you for the win
They probably meant C chord
I don't have perfect pitch but a trick I use to pretend like I do is remember a melody (say, Mary Has a Little Lamb, which starts on E) that's really easy for me to remember, and then if I have to sing, say a C note, just go Ma-ry-had and figure out the note from there.
Still a terrible movie, and that's still a melody, not a note, but if they sing it all the time it makes sense one of them would be able to start singing it in-key first try.
RIGHT??!!! Like- why the hell would we have invented pitch pipes if we could hit perfect notes?
I just did the math.
The movie made 2.3 million and if movies tickets cost around 10$
Around 230,000 people saw this movie.
1.7 million people saw this video.
John Scarce Now 2.2 million people viewed this,Oof
less than a quarter of a million people watched the movie more than 6x the people who saw the movie watched this video
(Me browsing RUclips) Hmm, the Jem movie? I didn't see that. I wonder if it was really that bad... (watches this video) Yup.
I'm guessing this happened a lot.
Funny thing is, 2.3 saw this video right now
John Scarce I was one of the 230,00 people seeing the movie. I LOVED the cartoon. That’s why I saw this. AWFUL
A friend of mine said that when he was in High School, a bunch of people came to his school for a video. They came to his class and said, "When we hold up the drink you like, please Cheer as loud as you can. When we hold up the drink you hate, Boo as loudly as you can."
He said he saw the video some time later on TV. It turns out, it was a media company running a political ad for a Rhode Island Democrat. They edited to look like they were holding up a picture of the Democrat where they'd "cheer excitedly" and when they held up the photo of the Republican, they "boo'd loudly."
People always do crooked ass stuff in order to push their agenda's. In this case, it was to upsell Jem.
My mom was actually in one of the crowds in this movie...
I hope that she was able to cope with the disappointment.
I am so sorry about that... please send our regards to your mom
The same guy who made this movie, also directed the Justin Bieber documentary, _Never Say Never_ . That explains so much.
And he is a graduate of USC film school..... what a waste of education. I feel bad for any of his professors who actually watched his films.....
Hey!
In Never Say Never's defense,
We got a pretty badass Cinema Sins end card out of it.
You know the one with the Godzilla clip.
So this movie was never going to be good.
OMG. It all makes sense now...
Ryan Hartwell It literally is Never Say Never. The only thing different is the "sci-fi" elements.
"Generic name, hit a C note."
*hits G note*
*WHEN I WAS, A YOUNG BOI-*
MA FATHAAA
Basically dead
*TOOK ME INTO THE CITI*
Wait, is Kimber a generic name these days? I don't know anyone named that.
*TO SEE A MARCHING BAND*
I agree so much with you, especially the last part, which was certainly low. I loved Jem when I was a kid, this movie took out all the magic, the holograms, the fact that she was the owner of the Record Company, how those young women (not teens) took courage, and stand up for themselves, the black one was a fashion designer! they all took care of foster girls!! talking about good roles models, feminism, and inclusion, and they tore all apart. So pissed!
Did Hannah Montana Get The Idea For The Pop Star With The Double Life From Jem,&,The Holograms?
They ruined Transformers.
They ruined Ninja Turtles.
They ruined He-Man.
They ruined GI Joe.
They ruined Scooby Doo.
They ruined Smurfs.
They ruined Garfield.
They ruined the Lorax.
They ruined pretty much everything that has been loved by fans of the original.
Now I know exactly how they feel. Thank you, Teen Titans Go. 😡😡
That is contributed to two things. The producers and the writers. An i mean writers as there is a writer's Strike going on.But no one wants to talk about that. That does not change the fact this movie was garbage.Well not garbage.Just not what was advertised.
+WarsunGames In conclusion movies, music, and TV has been dumbed down to make people scared and stupid enough to feel safe to think that Trump or Clinton can be good presidents. I'm bring politics into this because they basically control what we watch anyways and pump a whole bunch of bullshit that dumb people would fall for for a stability of control.
*bringing
Niceness_of_Gemini
Ack double posted.Yeah.That's what i agree on as well.
They're not ruined. They're simply bad movies. The source material is still in tact. Not all is lost. Just remember what Doug said in his Last Airbender review. To not get get upset over changes if you still have the original to enjoy
"You're in a mansion and you focus on being amazed by the curtains? What's the matter with you." I die when he says that. IDK why it's so funny.
L524K it's the delivery and comedic timing that makes it so perfect......I agree it's one of the best moments in the review!!!!!! 😂🤣
Can you phrase your quote in the form of a chart?
A chunk of the movie is a ripoff of "Earth To Echo", kids find a robot, and the robot takes the kids to other pieces of itself so it can accomplish a goal, except in JatH the kids are in a band
I bet the Earth to Echo movie is better than this movie.
@@puppymaroon964
It is
25:40 Lawsuits pending?
As a Jem fan, it was awful.
On it's own, it was still awful.
I have no idea how this film ever got the green light.
Edit: My apologies for spelling a word wrong and upsetting so many people over 2 years ago.
I think it's more of the Last Airbender thing. I'm from 99 and loved the show, so as a stand alone film, it's bad; as an adaptation, it's even worse.
Tf is aweful
Because Nostalgia can be cashed in on.
‘Aweful’
As in so awful you’re in awe of how bad it is?
Rosie John *numbers*
I'm not a Jem fan but I start getting beyond upset when I think about what they did to those fans. What if they had done the same thing to The Last Airbender? Like they got people raving about the cartoon and then manipulated it to look like they were praising the movie. That's such a low blow and incredibly unforgivable.
xwaytothedawnx I never thought I'd say this, but at least M. Night TRIED with "The Last Airbender". This movie didn't even attempt
xwaytothedawnx Uhhhhhhhhhh.... I think they DID do that to The Last Airbender. Sorry.
Cuddle Kitten And Wolf Artist Oh, that movie is on-par with how terrible Jem is (maybe even worse)... except Midnight Shyamalan didn't edit in videos of people praising the Airbender cartoon series to sound like they were praising the movie.
No, it really isnt an awful movie. I actually enjoyed it when it first came out... and then I saw the cartoon. The worst thing about that movie is that the source material is SO GOOD. As a standalone fantasy film, it's passable.
trequor
Passable is a strong word. TLA is only decent for a one time watch.
While watching, the words “I hate my life” escaped my lips in a single breath
A lot of older millennials forgot that
I accidentally paused on exactly 0:06 and I was impressed by the dedication on Doug's face:D DOUG!!! Do Mamma Mia 2 dude!! PLEASE!!!!
3:48 "An open e-book for everyone to see"
E-book. seriously.
I cringed so hard at that line. This movie gets millennials so wrong it's embarrassing.
like it really think it can appeal to that audience by mentioning technology
PunkExMachina
Yeah I mean like millennials are actually not open ebook they are more like detached from the real world
Using Instagram quotes while talking about situations, empowering ones especially like "when I put my heart in something, I give it my all"
When asked what have they accomplished in their 2 decades of existence, well besides working 2 weeks for a fast food joint
Jesus, calm down you crybaby, we're the ones that have to get a job in this fucking economy
Pen_Cipher
Economy is pretty good unless you have a degree in humanities, especially gender studies
Those damn kids on their kindles with their instapods and igrams posting their selfies! Millenials am I right?
kanishq ruhil TOO EDGY SUCH A SICK BURN
Dude, how did you manage to sit and watch this whole movie from start to finish? Even Ramsay Bolton would say that this is too torturous, even for him.
more torturous than when his dogs ate his face off?
bailey ferguson It's probably the same.
+bailey ferguson That was a godsend than watching this movie.
yeah, and he got dog-bited to death.
Dedication to his fans. That's how.
Kimber deserves better after her dad just IGNORES her!! 😑
"Oh of course! It's my old friend Ryo."
Nice reference
Ryo Sakazaki's in this?
@@maverickhunterstupidiocy7779ORA ORA!
I'm one of the fans at the ending (original video is ruclips.net/video/gGWH4CICQU8/видео.html)
It's true that Jem inspires me, just not this Jem. I'm talking about the Jem who was on my sister's Music is Magic VHS which I watched religiously as a small child.
ohh jesus that sucks, I'm sorry to hear that
Oh dear God, I am so, so sorry.
Oh you poor soul. That is so unfortunate to hear. Your video (THE ORIGNAL!) was amazing. It's too bad you can't sue them for butchering your video.
+Syd Woodward unfortunately I had to sign some legal document which gave them permission to use my video how they wanted :( they said it was for a fan montage at the end of the film.
+Toxicpanda Bunch a' f*ckin' cads, the lot of 'em.
So wait.....the makers of this film basically lied to those Jem fans? I mean technically they were in the movie but that's not really what they made it sound like, they made it sound like they were gonna be extras or something, like actually ON SET but nope, they were gonna take the video entries and then splice those in. Seriously, that is so misleading, so deceptive and so underhanded that I'd be amazed if those guys were able to sit down after the ass kicking they were in for. I mean that's just vile.
Yeah that was a real asshole move by them. If other producers would do something like this they will lose their audience.
And they did! It took them two weeks to kill off their entire audience's tolerance for the film as opposed to literally anything else.
So... this movie is basically a 1 hour middle finger to the fans of the show? Now I'm ticked off at Universal Studios! This is just vile! And I thought the CGI chipmunks movie was a slap in the face!
+Tammy Carrico More like a 2 hour middle finger to the fans of the show. And it was a great thing it was pulled from the US cinemas after just 2 weeks. And it was a straight-to-video movie in my country.
I didn't even know what a Jem and the holograms was before this review and even I feel insulted by this movie. The Jem fandom has my sincerest condolences. I mean, I've felt pretty bad at the recent remakes of my nostalgia but this? Holy fucking god damn!
16:04 Now you’re going to get angry letter from Chris Pratt himself
So, I did a little research and found out that the director of this movie originally wanted to make it much similar to the cartoon, but, no studio would buy it until it got turned into...this. Unfortunately, that tracks. I was ready to give credit where credit's due to the guy, but then I read that he had a vision of this crossing over with the live-action GI Joe and Transformers movies. I'm not kidding, he wanted to do that. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. I would keep going but I feel like I keep Noing for a month and it still wouldn't feel like it was enough.
You can thank Jason Blum for this. A Jem movie at the most would need a 80 million dollar budget, but Jason Blum is known for producing movies for cheap so this movie only got 5 million.Sometimes it works ( get out, whiplash, ) but here it didn't.
I'm with the critic on this, just sell the robot then go home.
Go home go to bed
@@GallodelGallineroDash
I am absolutely sick of watch this stupid fuckin movie, Imma go home go to bed
And (just a thought) if the robot is smart it could escape secretly and they could sell it again and again until they get caught.
Something that really pissed me off, out of all things, is that they AUTOTUNED when they're singing acapella. That's like showing an artist painting a picture on screen and it being a photograph.
Yeah. I happened to pick up on that autotune during the acapella. It was... painful.
Jem And The Holograms will always be the original cartoon nothing can ever change that.
Agreed 📼
Echo from Earth to Echo is laughing at Synergy.
Wait, if the Critic knows about Norm of the North...
Does this mean that he has to review it?
YES PLEASE!!!!
There's a murder quota
He must review that garbage film!
Was most likely a tease to a future review
What's to day about it. It's so dull and repetitive he'll have to make the review more of a large skit.
This movie is an adaptation of an 80's cartoon, just like Transformers. Even though the Transformers movies (especially the second one)aren't the best. They had a curtain charm to thrm and enough action to keep your attention. So they're doing an alright job with that franchise. But this is inexcusable. I've only seen two episodes of the original Jem series and from what I saw, this film deserves nothing but shame.
Idk, the first one was pretty good. But yeah the sequels were crap
Electric Skittles I'd say the only one I don't like was Revenge of the Fallen, because it had no continuity. also the fourth one because the plot pacing was on fast forward, and how they overhyped the Dinobots and only put them in the last twenty minutes of the movie. But my favorite so far is Dark of the moon. But I'm excited to see what The Last Knight will do
Camren Davis Yeah, I'd have to disagree on Dark of the Moon. I do agree that it gets too much hate, in my opinion it's not terrible. "Crap" was maybe a little harsh. But yeah, 2 (Revenge of the Skidz and Mudflap) and 4 (Age of 2 and 1/2 hours) are really bad. But Last Knight might be OK. I'll wait until it comes out to make a judgement but I heard Michael Bay will have less control over the franchise. No, hate, but I do disagree somewhat. :)
Electric Skittles cool
I actually thought the second Transformers movie was the best. I agree with PhantomStrider; Age of Extinction was the worst theater experience I've had.
I love the animated series. It's repetitive but I remember the songs and characters better. Even the comics are better!
The director of this movie was Jon M. Chu. I had no idea.
All I gotta say is Thank god he got better with “Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights, Beauty and the Beast A 30th celebration and the Wicked movies
I wasnt paying attention and i got jump scared lol
me too
+The Llama King You have an amazing username
yeah, Norm of the North scared the hell out of me
same loool!!
The scariest things are the ones you don't see coming. And I had no idea he was going to pull out Norm of the North. Truly scary stuff right there.
