Digging Deep into an Old New Holland Skid Steer Hydraulic Drive Motor
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 июн 2020
- The new to us skid steer developed a leak between to halves of the drive motor. Now lets look inside and see how much we have to take apart to replace a gasket.
Focus on the positives. That's what my dad always used to tell us kids. You also said "warsher" like he did. He recently passed away about a month ago and he had a New Holland L779. I was just out there using it, it ran like a champ and I was thinking of him the whole time. I don't need to fix anything on it at the moment, but just appreciating that videos like these exist on these antiques.
I did the same job your doing now on one over twenty years ago,It wasnt to bad back then but I wouldnt want to do it now,(I am a bit fatter than I was back then!)There is one thing that makes you a true farmer in my opinion,You repair things either where they die or in what ever conveniate place under cover you have,(My Dad was the same way,Me too),You dont have this Huge well lit shop with all the latest and greatest tools. You can fix more with a hammer and a screwdriver than a lot of "Experts" can with all the toys. And it shows what you can really do if you want to!!!
I am happy you were able to get a skid steer even though it is a vintage unit. Keep repairing it and discover that when it does run it can help you get a lot more work done that you ever imagined.
Hey Jacob, you have been missed! I’m glad you are well. I love all your rhymes along the way. This was a great video with Mom and Dad too! I really am glad your Dad is doing so good and able to add his expertise and experience and Mom supervising and hopefully being head safety officer! Yes I’m here watching until the end lol 😂 I love y’all on the Boehm farm! Please stay safe and as always stay awesome 😎 I’m very glad you had the safety on while filling the oil 😂
I really enjoy watching your repair vids
Great video Jacob, i wish you posted even more, but i'll watch whatever you put up. I hope the repair is a success.
WOW you are quite the mechanic and great dialog too.. I would be totally clueless..
Thank you
Nice job!
Neat little tricks with the wire.
Spot on. Good job done. Wish we could still get parts off the shelf here in the UK for my 775.. You should of put the oil in the side when it was tipped back much easier with the thick oil in all. 👍
Good to see you again!
Glad your back Jacob can’t wait to see what’s next
Those "fingers" are not supposed to be matched to the holes they came out of because each one has a different wear pattern. It will still function but you could end up with one drive motor stronger than the other and it will shorten the life of the motor. At that point in the tear down I would have sprung for a new motor. The labor is more costly than the part. Its no telling how many more seasons you will get from that motor if you reassembled the pistons in the wrong cylinders. But when it does fail, now you know why it failed. With light use around a farm it could last for years or just a few months. Its a learning experience. It's nice to see someone willing to tear into something like this though. Nice video.
That motor is good for another 40 years - better than factory now!
Back when i was in high school the rental store i worked at had 3 of those ol L35s and I got to take them apart and put back together all the time took a whole drive set out of a burnt up L35and put it into a non burnt one changed hyd pumps in those so often had it down to doing one in a few hours the last few we did we would turn them up on their side and it was so much easier to swap out the main pump. Those gaskets were made of a heavy wax paper type material back then.
This was a great video! I am in so much need of help on my L35. I can't really afford to take it anywhere for repair so I'm trying my best to do repairs myself. When I purchased the machine I noticed it had a slight clanking noise when I would turn left. It started to get worse and would clank and then jerk back and forth. One day I was running the machine and then it clanked again and just stopped turning left altogether. No front or rear movement just right. When I move the left stick to move I get nothing and feel nothing engage at all. I tried to fill with fluid and still nothing. I pulled the cover off to expose the chain and pump. The chain is attached but the parking brake rotor is extremely loose. I also noticed what appeared to be fresh metal shavings on the bottom under the parking brake. I just need some advice and a guide in the right direction on where to proceed. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly!
I love these videos always
Great video!!
That was a bear of a job to repair. Ya done good!
Nice job! We can't wait to see you running it again.
MB BAR RANCH
fun farming adventures .....yea!!!!!.... especially when we are going to grandmothers house .... lol..... great vid.... thx....
And it didn't look like the locking tabs on the new bolt were engaged. Good job like your videos
Great awesome video,
12:00 I guess I’m a good follower!
Always watch through the whole video man! That’s for inspiring people like us hah
I just hope that there is more videos coming soon :)
You've got to love design engineers: looks good on paper so it must be serviceable/repairable:right? Replacing a water pump on my JD 5320 was an 11 hour job: 20 minutes to remove the old and install the new water pump. Rest of hours were to remove and then re-assemble everything to get to the dang thing.
If engineers and designers had to work on equipment , things would be a lot different !
@@stevewesley8187 If you guys had to engineer stuff, stuff wouldn't run, it be twice as big, weigh twice as much, and cost twice as much. Then you would complain about those things. You can't have your cake and eat it too. I mean really we are talking about a skid steer here. That's trying to stuff 20 lbs of stuff in a 10 lbs package. If you want a loader that is spread out and easier to work on, get a wheel loader.
Good video
Ive used a zip tie and wire on tight chaines, and prefer zip tie to make the ends meet.
Also: You remind me of Hank Marvin, wich is a good thing.
At least you are young, thin, and nimble. It's a lot harder when you are old, fat, and not nimble
Dwight Murphy - the young part is the secret. I’d love to be 18 with my 55 year old brain.
Agreed
Boehm farm is the best channel on you tube
Sure makes me appreciate the newer style skidsteers that the cab flip ups out of the way! lol How has your dad been doing?
At 15:32 all I could think was you were talking about me because I’m a nut 😂
U sure take on sum big projects
I thought this was minor. The 2+2 is a big project.
Take some yarn and wrap it around where you need the gasket a bunch of times and pinch it together and it will never leak
I think you may have a high pressure leak to case housing. Test case pressure when you first start it up or rushing another gasket or shaft seal blow out. I may be wrong but case lube pressure is low like pump supply pressure. Is low always under 300 psi
Good price..... we have had an L425 my whole life and it's been a great little shit scrapper
80% of the job is keeping them running, I feel ya
you guys dry over there? i just finished baling my 1st cutting it's 1/3 what it was june '19
Good job........
How much corn an beans ya get planted ?????
Nice job. How'd you make out with 2+2? Last I knew it was split in 2.
W Cooman so it’s a 2÷2 then? 😂
Great video. I am currently working on a New Holland L781 loader similar to yours. I am replacing the hydraulic motor seals. Im having a difficult time locating replacement seals. They all seem to be out of stock. Where did you order your seals from? Keep up the good work. Very helpful!
Just went to the biggest, second closest new Holland dealer to us. Can't remember if they were in stock or if it had to come from a warehouse.
i felt bad for you when you bought that . they break easily. and hard to fix . bobcat is so much easier to fix and drive . good luck
Good to see you're doing well. Are you done planting?(videos?)
Almost, just a some beans left. I am behind on videos. This one killed me to edit.
@@boehmfarm4276 that's ok bud
How do you like the ant eater and can you do a equipment tour
I just bought me one of this skid steer is there a place that I can get parts for this machine?
Didn’t want to put new RTV gasket on the outside cover?
Do you not have to pack the bearing on the large gear or is there a grease fitting to pump some grease after?
It's in an oil bath.
Fingers= pistons; drum = cylinder
blue rtv is not made for oil read the tube ..we use black here at aamco
The new Dex Merc is compatible to Dex 2
Is hay season almost there yet? I got to go do some hay today
I mowed yesterday.
Nice 👍🏻
I’m ready for some video of baling some hay
Was your braking functional after this video?? Working on my 72 l35 as i type this. Brake lever is working properly but dosnt seem to want tighten on disc. According to the book shimm disc out untill 1/32 from fixed stator (pad). Any info on this would be great
I don't think the brake works...
Any ideal where to get or modify some kind of steering dampers ?
Um.... I'll go with no.
NEVER TRUST A JACK OR HYDRALLICS USE JACK STANDS!
Use wood and/or concrete blocks (ALWAYS with holes vertical, NEVER the “easier” way to move around-horizontal AND always protect the concrete from steel/metal, concrete floors/rocks/sinking ground/etc. with a “full-footprint” 2x8x18): buy several treated 4x6s, 2x6s, 5/4x6s, 1x6s, 2x4s and a couple 1x8s. Cut all into 18" lengths with a chainsaw (18 inches = very handy length: light, easily maneuverable, slightly longer than concrete block, etc., etc.) and TAKE THE TIME to use them! Jack stands are also handy, but I find wood blocks of varying thicknesses more versatile and handier. 😉😏🙂 Stay alive! 😀😎
That 800 a good planter?
It is delightful.
Those marks in the bottom could have been from the bolt rolling around in the bottom
Hey what size tires do you have on yours.. my L778 has the ford diesel and I and thinking of switch to 10-16.5 tires.. still got the 15s on it now with 31 10:50 15 radial truck tires . Dont care for the feel of those, but I bought it that way and it was cheap
I think this one has the 16.5s
@@boehmfarm4276 could you look for me.. Im about to order new tires and wheels as a package deal.. I Want to make sure they will fit.. those look like they have plenty of clearance on yours.. I think the L775 and L778 both came with small 15" tires factory.. kinda small for the job..
Did everything run good on skidsteer
Yep
I have one of these and I'm rehabbing it and I have a completely up and going except today I discovered it will not move any ideas
Cutting hay in sd
there's our Nut, talking to us,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Any idea why my hydraulic line started vibrating on my new holland skid steer? It quits vibrating when using the hydraulic
Might have air in the system.
Did I see some fold over tabs that you didn’t fold over ???
I got them off camera.
Why didn't you grease the bearing before you put it in?
Because it runs in an oil bath.
Hello..i am from Finland. I pay L-775 yesterday.. My NH has a broken engine. How do I get the wheels to spin freely when towing? Apparently, the seller had forcibly towed the NH 775 when the engine broke, because a lot of bolts were broken from the wheels. I hope nothing has been broken..
Have you done any planting yet?
Yep, corn is in, mowed hay yesterday, working on beans. This video was a time consumer to edit down, like the kind that makes you procrastinate.
any chance you have a vickers 4 way gearbox for sale? thanks, David
I do not
@@boehmfarm4276 thanks anyway
У меня такой же погрузчик и нужен гидронасос.
Fortunately, it is not tight in the machine anyway.
👍👌🇨🇦❤
Bad investment more work then it's Worth
Next time you can buy the one you like and Jacob will run it for ya :)
I relocated my battery on both my NewHolland skid steers to the ledge behind the seat because (1)you can't get a very big battery in the factory location (2) every time you need to charge the battery or jump it you have to take the seat out.
Did you get the international back together
Sorta
When you come home from a long day in the field and see your wife 15:30
Pistons
I didn't see any grease in that one bearing you put in - that I could tell
It runs in oil bath.
Ищу гидронасос на движения ручного управления.
Das that bearing need any grease.🙄
It runs in an oil bath.
",lest they trample them under their feet.,..." I have just discovered your page. I find you to be quite interesting, but.....somewhat simple. Not in a bad way. Or in the way of a simpleton. Nay, but in a beatific way. Or.....not in any pejorative sense. Not at all. I'm from Boston. I was educated by Jesuits - indeed, I may still be in the process of being educated by them. I see your shirts; Wilmington College, a school I'd not ever known of till I watched these videos, and a hoody having the name of McNicholas Rockets. A hight school in Cincinnati, Ohio? A catholic high school, no? You are a teacher. For as old a man as I am, I like learning about the earth, the soil. And simple faith. If you have it.
Bearings live longer with grease , sorry.
Unless they run in an oil bath, sorry :)

Is wanna be farmer still farming, haven’t seen him lately.
He's fed up with renting and is trying to buy a farm but it's not going the greatest.
