You are right, has similar vibes, but i think it sounds a lot more Black Metal Influenced with the verses, rather than Djent/Thall/Progressive Metal. But still an amazing record, although I prefer the Uncoquerable Dark by Black Tongue!
You know, I've been listening to metal for over 25 years, and for the first time, it's like I'm afraid to listen to a certain album. I still haven't listened to it. I can't, you know, bring myself to decide and get into the right mood for listening. I haven't even watched the video I'm commenting under.
I felt the same way and waited a day and a half for this reason, and I still am not sure I was in the right mindset for it since you need to be in a more "art" mindset than "metal" mindset to appreciate their work. All I'll say is definitely wait until you think you're in the headspace you want for it, because I'm a little sad I didn't wait longer either, it deserves the most attention etc (and clearly you know that, just encouraging your stance on waiting!)

I honestly cannot imagine how music could get any heavier than this. Buster is an absolute genius producing this brand of metal, it is so unique, so brutal it actually gets beautiful. I love Catastrophize and Shell, but the sad, Vildhjarta-like riff at 13:41 sends me to another dimension. Anyone knows if there's gonna be an instrumental version for this album?
Blood spilled, Withering, Death Spiral, Instill, shell.. definitely my favorite tracks. This album goes insanely hard. Type of album you listen to at the gym all the way through.

At this point the only other bands I can think of that could come close to HLB's sheer levels of heaviness would be Frontierer or Black Tongue (and Vildhjarta of course) but Ashen is just in a league of its own right now, unreal.

It is too painful to talk about, but I had the worst week of my life leading up to the release of Valde by these guys. I remember listening to "Spectre" and there is a fading in chug section in the song and it was the first time I had smiled after some heavy shit and a ton of self hatred. So I know what you're saying. I actually cried a little the first time I heard that one riff in Burden Bearer.
Just finished listening to the album. Tension is a word that keeps coming to mind. I was engulfed in it while listening, but, strangely enough, completely at peace. This album is so jaw-droppingly good.
HLB is next level. easily one of my favorite albums of this year so far, likely gonna end up in my top 5. favorite non-singles are probably Lifeless Deathless, Catastrophize, Shell, and Bearer. Passage was my favorite of the singles :) also, hearing the Death Spiral riff and instantly recognizing it from the little teaser all that time ago was a fun experience haha

Sounds like a Calle riff, that dude really blows my mind every time i hear him, his style is so outside of the box, usually when im writing something i usually have a vibe or a feeling im going for, but i listen to these guys and i just cant understand whats motivating them to create this, i mean wtf, 😂 its the void. This album is incredible.
Those two riffs (8:08 and 11:29) are so inspired by Fractalize its unreal. World needs more groove like these (for anyone who hasn't heard of Fractalize go check out their track Suneater)

You are doing an AMAZING job. I think, mostly because, it seems to me as your musical boundries was pushed, because you openened your heart to it. Back when Tool was changing your perception of what the more heavier genre was made of. To see through noise, and find beauty. Truly inspiring and very fun to watch as a musician. HLB is one of my favourite bands currently and while this album is their heaviest, definitely there are heavier bands out there. Ever heard of Ulcerate? Give a try their album "Shrines of paralysis".
Frontierer make a lotta noise too... they are a slightly different kind of heavy... more messed up and noisy. I can only take them for 3 or 4 songs at a time, but I'm just so happy to know they exist.

It's pretty good, but I still prefer the styles of Valde and Detestor. Would've loved to hear more exploration into the Vittring sound (one of the most unique metal tracks I've ever heard). Detestor is still the heaviest album ever IMO.
I can't remember who Buster was talking to but he essentially said Valde was him making the music he wanted to hear the most. Whereas he's cooperated more with Calle with this album. I personally don't see how Detestor is even close to as heavy as this, but Valde I definitely see. My one critique of Valde is that it almost got boring at some parts because it droned low notes for the sake of heaviness, whereas this feels genuinely destructive with minimal droning. Idk, I could see some people falling off the wagon when a band goes in a direction they didn't exactly want, but man, this is exactly what I wanted. Earthless is my favorite from Valde, but Vittring is definitely a runner up. I enjoyed the lyrics of Dehumanize so much though that it's probably the one I listen to the most.
