Little cabin is looking really good! I used to have chipmunks at my other home. I miss them! Cheap entertainment! I was curious if they have water close by?
They're also genius little escape artists. A place where I worked as a park ranger had some Siberian chipmunks - one of them went up the sleeve of my jacket and went to sleep in the elbow. 6 others escaped, and there are now Siberian chipmunks breeding in the West coast of Scotland. We put out humane traps for them, with video cameras. We got footage of one of them stealing the food from the trap without triggering it, by going into the trap on the roof, hanging by its back feet, picking up the food with its front paws, stuffing it all in its mouth, and disappearing... smart little beasties
That's what I was thinking. Don't spoil them too close to your beautiful cabin. They might want to move i for the winter. Then you will have to deal with chipmunk poop and pee smelling up your cabin. Michelle, the drone footage at the end showed how much work you put into that astounding cabin on the cliff. I wished for the day you would finish it and finally sit down in front of those sliding doors and enjoy the peaceful beauty. You picked a great spot to build it, despite the hardships you and Steve endured with the skymule and backpacking the rest down to the cliff. Coming down the home stretch. I hope you spend many enjoyable days in your cabin on the cliff. Best regards, John...
Soffit vents are for ventilating a cold attic space. Meaning your ceiling is insulated, but not your roof. Soffit vents are not required if the roof itself is insulated. In this case you want to do the opposite and seal the overhangs. Some may say that if you do this you may still see mold or moisture on the interior walls and windows. If this ever becomes the case, you don't have a ventilation issue. Rather you have a humidity issue. The relative humidity, if kept under 60%, will not create mold problems. You could always get a hydrometer to to get an idea. A building without an HVAC system will always be susceptible to outside conditions and activities inside (cooking, etc). You do have windows, etc that help manage things while your there. I think you're on the right track. Love you videos and awesome projects. 👍
Soffit vents allow for recirculating air, along with ridge vents. I suggest adding a screen behind the soffit to prevent rodents, insects, and debris from entering. Fresh air, comes through the soffit and stagnant air is removed from the ridge vent. The combination cuts down on high humidity and mildew growth.
I was thinking of two inch round vents. Quick and easy to install. Maybe necessary, maybe not, but they are so easy to install and cheap that it is a good just in case kind of thing ..
Watching you interact with the chipmunks, is just so precious. That and all of the other love you give to the dogs just has touched my heart like nothing else. You need to be nominated for sainthood. I send you love and respect.
Hi 👋, Michelle and Steve, I hope you are both keeping safe and well, dog 🐕 cat 🐈⬛ chipmunks 🐿️, ❤😂. Your truck 🛻 😂, looks great, that was a very good buy , That was definitely blowing a Hooley when you got there, Make a list, list , list, you’re very important essentials, 😮😂, Your steel locker cabinets, I think you should’ve cleaned the surface rust off, then use a oil base varnish, I know that there is a products available in the UK, not sure about where you live in, The cabin is coming on great, as for the plastic fixing washers, they don’t remember me of nipples 😊😂 , I haven’t seen one for years but I don’t remember them being white and round like that, 😮😂❤, I look 👀 forward to your next project, Stay safe, ❤ Phil from the moulin
The Chipmunk Chalet is coming along nicely. Before you know it, those little guys are gonna need Jenny Craig! I like the look of those lockers too. I hope they retain that patina. The best part was seeing all your babies laid out on the floor after that awesome meal. Never stop doing what you do. Seriously.
Hi Michelle. The cabin is looking good and appears to be nearing completion. Some plastic flowers will always look nice. Breakfast in bed for the dogs! Have good days!
The Linseed Oil looks good on the lockers. That GM Sierra with the diesel engine should provide all the power you should ever need. That chipmunk is sure cute. Soon, you'll have a herd of them coming around for nuts.😂
You have one of the best channels! I love your content, its a perfect mix of humor, content, fur babies. Don’t ever sell yourself short Michelle, you’re more gifted and talented than most career carpenters!!
Michelle, All that you need is air movement/ventilation under your roof, so the snow doesn't melt and turn into an ice dam. You are fine with your design. Blue Skies! Faithfully, James
You're correct on your assumption about the roof rafters...if you were putting a ceiling underneath the rafters inside, then you would want to leave it vented between the roof and the inside ceiling. mho Your "Tiny off-grid, Cabin on a Cliff" is looking awesome!
Get some satin finish varathane spray, the diamond is fast dry and water based, I build furniture and use it on almost every you’ll love it I believe, your Alaskan Friend ❤️🙏🏻I just love your chipmunk 🐿 friend, and no you don’t need a soffit but your carrying the foam up and sealing it up to the lid, good much there, and your roof will be fine
I have to say Steve is a very lucky man. You are one in a million a very special woman loving caring talented and funny, it doesn’t get much better than that. God bless you and your future and all of your family.
Maybe reserve one of your pouch pockets, or get a single pouch addition, big enough for some nuts and a squirrel to sit inside eating. LOL! "Michy's Chipmunk Munchies"! Chipmunks are socking away for the winter. They'd take that entire jar of nuts and be back right after they hide it!
Your gonna give that chip munk a belly ake. The lockers turned out perfect. You do want to seal up that cabin, so you dont get any creachers living in there. All the dogs well fed, like the chipmunks. : )
@@michygoss7148 definitely an awesome choice:) something about a diesel:)! Toyota makes a 6 cylinder diesel landcruiser, they are pretty epic. Excited for you n your new ride! Hopefully the dogs agree with your choice;p have a great fall time you n Steve:)!
You have a life time Friendship with Chipper. Lockers look good and You had a Beautiful view to wake up with, Thanx for sharing. Diesels will give you good service if You give the Diesels good Service. Fuel system maintainance is critical.😃
Good day to you and Steve and the little chipmunks, try Rust off from Napa it’s a rust converter to stop rust from going any further. Then you can finish it the you want. Good luck from Steve.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Lockers look good.. soon the chipmunks will be moving in, maybe some badys to lol.. your doing a great job Michelle. Take care, and watch those little guys..😅
I am amazed you found a used Diesel GMC. I bought a used Chevy Silverado in 2010 and could not find a Diesel in Vermont. I have also loved the tailgate on the GMC since first seeing an ad for one. Your sponsor for several video's has been Bluetti. I looked at ads for several weeks and bought the Ac200Max. This was before I found your channel, so I can not give any kudos to for pointing me in their direction, but I fully agree with you choice of product. I also bought an AC70 giving me something easier to lug around. I am amazed to see you mentally working through different project in the same way that I expect I would. Although I don't have the advantage of all the bigger equipment you have. Milling machine, Bob Cat, Excavator, etc. I was amazed to find out you are a nurse. Very versatile. I am envious of the number of dogs you have. We have one rescue that we are told has to be the only dog, she will fight with other dogs. She gets along well with the cat though. She looks like your Hannah, same ears and almost the exact coloring. Oh, and I love the chipmunks too. My great uncle had one that would come up on his small porch, climb up the chair he was sitting in to reach his shirt pocket where he kept nuts for him (or her). Love your channel.
Hey Michelle , yeah I'm still watching , as a musician for 40 years I really liked your choice of music in the video today. The cabin looks great as do you. Loved the chipmunks! Lol
Love it ! Chipmunks and squirrels are fun. Used to sit in the backyard at the picnic table and they would come too me for food. Sometimes they would jump on ,me from the roof as I came out the door. 🙂
Haha, dont know where to start! Your rafters are fine, open to the air. I'd put screen or wood where the facia boards and the wall siding will leave a small gap, to keep critters from building nests. Looks like a winner with the lockers and ya gotta love a diesel truck(it looks badass). Fuel is expensive, but they have great mileage and power/torque. Also nuts for Chip & Dale, and steak & potatoes for the dogs, you guys are the best! *Just dont start feeding the cougar! 😂

Super nice video Michelle. Hay, caulk around your rafter ends and at the roof/wall joint before installing your siding. Roof venting is not required when insulation is installed above roof sheathing. Your roof foam insulation is your vapor barrier. My 2002 GMC Sierra 3/4 ton is still going strong. Give it every thing it needs and will give back for many years. Cheers John

If you had an unheated air space to ventilate, like an attic, or a unheated space between the rafters, then it would need ventilation, to help with icing on the roof. You have a bit of a space between your roof strapping, under the metal, but leaving the rafter tails open wouldn't ventilate that anyway.

Nice GMC. I had a 2005 GMC 2500 with a Duramax (LLY engine). Had a lot of issues with it. So in 2014 I bought a new RAM HD with Cummins. Back seat folds up and floor folds out so I have a flat floor for the animals. The big issue I still see with GM trucks is the underside rust. I would get your truck Fluid Filmed yearly.
Maybe the chipmunks should help her out, for all the kindness she's showing them! 😊
Your little chipmunk friend reminded me of Art scholl...Best chanel on RUclips...❤

Way too late! 😂. Dang. Oh well, next time!! 👍👍😁
Wow. You did a fantastic job on the build, especially doing the entire thing on your own.
