I would definitely go with horizontal boards for the siding. 1) it would match the shed and 2) water will shed down and not get between the boards and the house wrap which would set you up for rot.
No shed latch can contain ... MIGHTY MICHY!!! Whether it be a skii through the woods in the dark, or a hike miles into the wilderness to find Clyde and bring him safely home, MIGHTY MICHY is always up to the task, and alive in the heart of the super hero we all know as michygoss. Awesome video, as always!
Steve’s response to your text had me rolling.😂 “ At my girlfriends house.” My wife would have broke my expensive tools and she knows I know that-I’d have had to rescue her.😂
personally i would place the planks horizontally and overlapping. That keeps water out. Vertical planks (I think) allow water to penetrate earlier. You have already done a lot of work, congratulations!
I like the look of the horizontal boards. Having said that, you should do whatever makes you happiest. You're the "Supervisor In Charge", the "Head Carpentress", the (you know what I mean)!
I just found you today. I think I am on the fourth video. You are an outstanding woman. You do all you do with humor, determination and are a good looking woman. I am in awe. Steve is so lucky. Best wishes to you.
i sugged you cross brassing in your last to last video , tie down your whole structure for extra loadof heavy snow or torando or storm winds a little wind turbine for extra power source for charging your battery backup too
Definitely horizontal looks more put together. My husband and I love your videos we have 160 acres recreational land and feel your pain when it comes to the maintenance trails cutting back brush…we know the work that goes into keeping everything functional. 😊
My life definitely would not be the same without my AC300 and B300's. The 30 amp outlet is perfect for powering my entire cabins circuit panel and Airstream Basecamp 20X. Also Bluetti's customer support is top notch and on the ball! I can't say enough about how Bluetti's systems have change my off-grid life, well them and Starlink!!! cheers!🥂
GO VERYICAL!! I like the vertical reverse board and batten. Built our house in 1990 with the standard vertical board and batten. No issues of rot. My dad told me to put a bevel on the bottom of the boards that made the end of the board pointed, bevel toward the house. Point on the outside. This gives the water a way to drip off instead of soaking back into the bottom of the board causing rot. GO VERTICAL!!!!
I am impressed by your ability to adapt ....... When I first started to watch your show I thought you were an odd looking lady .... Now I think your stunning and beautiful . Keep up the progress !
This is really breath taking to me. For a lady who has no construction experience at all, you can build a little house like this particularly on such a cliff, I couldn't admire enough for your grit and determination. Considering the weights of every piece of timber you need to carry uphill, I am totally surrendered to your efforts. Congrats. Besides, your not only gifted but also full of sense of humor.
I know there is nothing impossible in life. I just admire your strong will and energy, that is incorporated to do this project, and by your self. Salute you. Job well done.
I knew you’d bust outta that shed one way or the other! Gotta admit, l admire pretty much all that you do. Getting out and about the way you do, you don’t cower at anything it seems. Being out alone in the forest on the edge of a mountain… l truly admire your talents and abilities to be creative, push forward and conquer pretty much anything. I’ve dealt with anxiety and panic attacks most of my adult life, doing even the most common task or activities one would call normal can on some days be challenging. Watching you has pushed me out of my bubble to try things l normally would not do. Or just give up out of fear. Thank you for being such a huge inspiration. PS: l do like the vertical… not everything has to match, as far as having horizontal siding like your tiny cabin in back. Either way, l’m sure what ever you choose, will look just great :)
I spent 47 1/2 in the construction business. Some large commercial, but mostly high end remodeling and custom homes. I am impressed. I especially enjoyed your handlng of the framing hammer. And you held it appropriately too, for maximum force to the nail head. Thanks for an enjoyable video.
You've got me beat by a half year Ray swinging a framing hammer. Great job Michelle with the hammer, get that cabin with a view dried in and start to enjoy it!
Horizontal shiplap siding would definitely stand up to the weather better than vertical siding...for the same reasons that shingle roofs are installed in an "overlap" method. Water and snow will sheet off od shiplap, but wont on vertical siding.
A couple options on how to incorporate vertical live edge siding. - Do something like wayne scotting (just horizontal lap siding with a cap plate/board) at the base of the wall (come up the wall about three feet). Then do your life edge vertical siding from the top of the cap plate/board to the top of the wall. I'd overlap the vertical siding by at least an inch or lay it over the top of plywood sheeting. (Yes, I know, that means a lot more wood.) - Do something like a Tudor style face. Run the siding horizontal, but have vertical live edge pieces
Michelle, you could call your character Crazy Woman. I suspect that might fit. Great to see you having fun. You should know we're having fun watching you as well. I'd go with horizontal. It just seems to fit considering the wind, rain snow an sleet. Lots of hugs for the dogs. Thanks for Sharing!
Myself I would match the siding direction the way you did on your shed ! I like the idea you had on the Blue power banks , power all your tools on site where you use them , camera batteries and drone too , no question it’s a plus ! Use of the Honda generator to recharge the Blue banks , it’s a good system you have ! You have a done a great job so far , no matter how you look at it , it’s quite an undertaking to pull off what you did !
Michy your ensemble assortment is mind boggling, in a good way. I will not be surprised if I sit to watch and there is a pirate, fairies or 1920's era flapper working on something. Thank you for the entertainment, education and pure fun you give us.
I would go horizontal on siding, it ties everything together with shed..that outfit is fire..you and steve roll play 😊... I WOULD.... Your doing a fantastic job
Michelle and Steve, Hi! I really enjoyed the video. TY for all the hard work and cannot wait to see it completed. The Great Escape was so funny and TY for the smiles. A name? Hmmm. How about Dame Liberté. It is more than getting free from the shed, but about the freedom you have to create and inspire. God bless you both. Prayers for your peace, safety, and joy! God Bless! ~John
Your reenactment was so real, I had anxiety and some claustrophobia. I called my girlfriend but she was at her other boyfriends so I started drinking beers. Thank god we both survived!!
I prefer the horizontal boards. It matches your shed and you still get a live edge showing. Having said that it is best you do it the way you ultimately decide. It will be yours and it will still look great.
It’s Mitchy Woman to the rescue. Great videos as always. We all love your humor, perseverance, and imaginative wood working. No news on the lost saw yet? The wildlife has run off with it.
I really like the vertical, maybe bring that up to a certain point, then put the horizontal over that to keep the water out . The horizontal is more water resistant, but I think the vertical would look amazing.
I like your ideas that you come up with as you build things, (that is how I do it) is why I like watching your videos. What about building a frame above your deck for your solar panels above your window so, you would have your deck clear to walk on. You could maintain your solar panels within reach above your deck. I would also put a gutter above the solar panels to avoid snow and ice from damaging them. It would also protect your side window.
Hi Michelle. I think you could mount a "truck bed storage thingy" on the side of the wall where you want it. If holes are predrilled in the box, one anchor could hold it up, with props, while marking the other holes. It's your cabin and your time milling, you decide the direction. Super Builderess. Have good days!
Michelle, you are so funny, I love it. Siding for the cabin I would go horizontal. It would match the shed, you take care and have a good day and a very lovely week..
You can use that Hilti Drill to chip the rock into a flat spot for the deck post to sit on. There is a setting on the Hilti for chipping the rocks or concrete, works the best with a chisel bit for the hammer drill.
As far as the siding goes i like horizontal better. Otherwise it'll look like a giant outhouse if they are vertical lol. Another wonderful video. I'm still so impressed on your determination and skill! You truly are a wonder woman!
Anchoring up right to rock-good idea. I might have used 2 "L" brackets instead of a bolt thru the middle which might split. You could use 2- "L" and put them on the anchor bolt like "washers" under the nut so they would L on either side of the upright. You're very hard working, but I would expect no less from a super hero. Mighty Michy
I think the horizontal siding half way up...then a shiplap cut horizontal cedar to over lap the bottom....then finish out the top half with the virticle board and bat....best of both worlds.....it would add a lot to the visual.....I am sure that whatever you do, it will look great !!!
Hi Michelle If you have so many rats/criters making a mess of your stash, maybe you should store everything vertically against the rock wall. The siding, I like your idea of vertical siding, but, another look you might like would be horizontal siding and then vertical siding at the peeks. Have an awesome week!
Yes, do the vertical siding. It will make a nice contrast to the horizontal behind it. If I was Steve, I'd intentionally arrange myself trapped so I could have the Escape Super Hero, in her red & black, come save me.
Okay Michy, well the siding is really up too you.. if you want it to match then do it horizontal, otherwise vertical. I do know that come mid October the weather going too change, thus making it difficult once again. And the handrailing can wait, get your cabin dried in and weather tight. Have a good week and count your blessings amen.
I think Bat-Cat Black Widow Girl should assist you as she really appears to have some super-duper powers (or else she was simply answering Steve's hurried text that you were locked away and to come fast while you were gone! The vertical matches the trees visually, but horizontal will be better to preserve and seal out weather. Either way as always your video was most inspirational and fun.
❤ Lumber Woman escape sequence. You are a super hero! As for the siding, I vote horizontal. Wouldn't it be more weatherproof if it was overlapped horizontal? Since most rain & snow comes down⬇️ or at most, sideways↔️ (BC may be different🙂), I would think it would be more worry about moisture getting behind the boards if there were vertical seams or gaps. But then again I may not have a grasp of how you want to do vertical. Be safe.
Hi Michelle, as to the siding -vertical with a thin strip to hide the space between the siding boards. I think this would provide a great contrast with the horizontal boards on your shelter behind this structure, and would play on the vertical supports of the deck and building its self. This combined with a whimsical stick railing would be-wow-sort of fairytale effect. Perfect home for the “Red Caped Cliff Fairy” 😊, Wilber & Margaret from the lower 48. 🌟🌟
Hi Michelle, my vote is for horizontal siding. It will give you better water shedding. Love to see you work on your projects, it is a pleasure to see you solve the problems you come across. Happy building and living.
Wow, I am sure I couldn’t work with you Michelle..I would never get any work done. Beautiful, talented and daring. Where did this personality come from? You must have a very interesting back ground. Keep up the great work, be safe and follow your instincts.
Yea you need that one more brace in front but not just for the look! Safety first woman Safety first!!! Love the Pirate look on you!!! to bad you had to put in the window! You looked better in there.
HAHAHAHHA Awesome! I think a zip line down to the water's edge would be an awesome thing to have......bugga of a hike back though! Love ya work Mich. I like the vertical look as well.
5:27, Have you ever considered a steel 20' shipping container or even a 10' BICON Container. Clear a flat area for it and have it lowered down from the street level. Water/Weather Proof, Rodent/Insect Proof, and Lockable.
I like the idea of a few feet of horizontal siding, a ledger, and then vertical the rest of the way up. Best of both worlds, and some continuity with the shed, while still being different. I'm concerned about moisture penetration with the vertical though. One thing is for sure, I'd never be able to build this while designing it on the fly like you're doing. I'd want it all planned out. Obviously you are doing planning as you go in your head, so there is "a plan", but if it was me, I'd need to have more of it worked out beforehand. Great job!
JerryCrow took the words right off my keyboard…you really are a Wonder Woman! Especially seeing you carrying the window over and placing it. I’m guessing it weighs at least 80 pounds. So impressive!

Hi
😳😳😳
Can you please just put a temporary rail even if it's just one to buy for going across the back?? 😊😊❤❤❤❤❤. please 🙏🙏🙏
I would definitely go with horizontal boards for the siding. 1) it would match the shed and 2) water will shed down and not get between the boards and the house wrap which would set you up for rot.
👍👌👏 Eeeeeexactly!
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
If you don't have enough of the siding for overlapping, you could mill something different and alternate boards.
Dear @@janking2193
👍👌👏 Exactly my thoughts too.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
yup..horizontal..my opinion 👍
You beat me to it! 😎👌
The Great Escape was hilarious! 🤣 Love the Super Woman costume. lol

“Salacious Siren” 😂
The word strikes like a thunderbolt. Hat's off.
Vertical has my vote. Love the Supper woman outfit.
2:56 OMG!! That grand exit was so awesome. 🤣🤣

The hot lady on the mountain makes a daring escape! Great cinematography! 😆🔥😉👍
If you like Bluettie then I love it. Glad to see a rope on that drill. 👍👍
personally i would place the planks horizontally and overlapping. That keeps water out. Vertical planks (I think) allow water to penetrate earlier. You have already done a lot of work, congratulations!
So funny, I love watching your videos. STEVE is a lucky man to have somebody with a personality that you have.
I concur.
What a nice way to spend a Sunday morning. You're so humorous.
I like the look of the horizontal boards. Having said that, you should do whatever makes you happiest. You're the "Supervisor In Charge", the "Head Carpentress", the (you know what I mean)!
Sunday morning, coffee, smiles and Michy! You're amazing but please be careful!! ❤❤

Oh, I literally laughed my a** off! 😂😂😂

Right?!? A Bluetti power station is kinda life changing. 🤷🏻♀️
Horizontal siding all the way!!! What a project, you go girl!!!
You are a professional construction worker with highly advanced skills.
Your hubby is also a pro.
All the best for the both of you!
GO VERYICAL!!

"Same," in regard to the framing hammer. It's good to see someone use it properly.
You've got me beat by a half year Ray swinging a framing hammer. Great job Michelle with the hammer, get that cabin with a view dried in and start to enjoy it!
Only chick I know who holds and swings a hammer correctly! Way to go, Michy!
Vertical siding looks better amongst the trees, but horizontal is better to keep weather out. Cordless Girl!
OK, I'm convinced that your wit is truly outstanding which just makes you perfect now. Clever.Bravo.
Te salió hermoso cuando dijiste: "un momento por favor"...wooooow, te amé desde el sur de Chile.
Horizontal shiplap siding would definitely stand up to the weather better than vertical siding...for the same reasons that shingle roofs are installed in an "overlap" method. Water and snow will sheet off od shiplap, but wont on vertical siding.

It’s Mitchy Woman to the rescue. Great videos as always. We all love your humor, perseverance, and imaginative wood working. No news on the lost saw yet?
The wildlife has run off with it.
No saw yet
Aww, you coulda busted the door down,...😁 Good Visual narrative story telling. On your building vids too. It's like hanging out with you.🧡👍🔨🐕

I love you videos. Both the build parts and you characterized parts (so funny). Your latest character is definitely "Femme Fantastique!"
Some of your skits are humor at it's finest.
Great job on your cabin build Michelle, I like the vertical siding look, stay safe up there
What a bad ass gal. Pulling off those shorts perfectly as always.
As far as the siding goes i like horizontal better. Otherwise it'll look like a giant outhouse if they are vertical lol. Another wonderful video. I'm still so impressed on your determination and skill! You truly are a wonder woman!

You're very hard working, but I would expect no less from a super hero. Mighty Michy
Vertical. It'll look great and go up fast and easy. Love the Super Michy outfit too!
Funny stuff Michelle. If you're thinking the siding is easier a certain way I would go with that!! It's going to look good either way.
MSPW, Mountain Side Princess Warrior works for Me, LOL. Thanx for sharing.😃
I think the horizontal siding half way up...then a shiplap cut horizontal cedar to over lap the bottom....then finish out the top half with the virticle board and bat....best of both worlds.....it would add a lot to the visual.....I am sure that whatever you do, it will look great !!!
Hi Michelle
If you have so many rats/criters making a mess of your stash, maybe you should store everything vertically against the rock wall.
The siding, I like your idea of vertical siding, but, another look you might like would be horizontal siding and then vertical siding at the peeks.
Have an awesome week!
Do horizontal on the gable ends and vertical on the cabin. Or the best way is "What works for you!!!" Awesome job!
The outfit after you got out of the shed made me laugh out loud. Very Funny!!
Help Mich, love your videos. Like your smile, with your precious eyes.
Costume perfect! Such a lot of work just to get to the cabin but so so nice!
Horizontal for sure. Much better weather resistance. Thanks for the video, Wonder Woman!
Horizontal lap siding would be more water proof and it looks good with the live edge. BTW, You look great in that outfit. Steve is a lucky guy.
Love your sense of humor 😁 I like the horizontal boards personally.
Definitely would go with horizontal Michy love your attitude on life and Steve's
Yea you need that one more brace in front but not just for the look! Safety first woman Safety first!!! Love the Pirate look on you!!! to bad you had to put in the window! You looked better in there.
I like the vertical. Love this project.
Love the vertical siding look. Unique look just like Wonder Woman leaping out of a tool shed!🤣🇨🇦
Hello 👋🏻 glad to see your back must be feeling better. 👍🏼🇺🇸🇨🇦🌹❤️
Kudos Michelle, I know you never panicked !!!
HAHAHAHHA Awesome! I think a zip line down to the water's edge would be an awesome thing to have......bugga of a hike back though! Love ya work Mich. I like the vertical look as well.
I’m glad your safe and all but I honestly just enjoy admiring you work . And do nurse things . 🤓 “your since of humor”.😉
No wounder Steve has a smile on his face with that super hero outfit Michelle
I vote horizontal also. Will be tighter and a better weather seal. They look great on the shed so keep it going!
Michy, look at frame 21 : 16 you have a Chip 🐿Monk inside the cabin. 🐿 He runs out under the table.
As a german carpenter master i say don't forget battens and counter battens. No condens. Longer hold of the wood. Not hot air.👍👍🇩🇪
5:27, Have you ever considered a steel 20' shipping container or even a 10' BICON Container.
Clear a flat area for it and have it lowered down from the street level.
Water/Weather Proof, Rodent/Insect Proof, and Lockable.
Now I remember why I watch your videos Michelle. Alot of McGiver!
You really Crack me up. Never know what your going to get with you, and I like it. Awesome video. I like the vertical look of the siding on the cabin.
For being one person an amazing one you have acomplished a lot with the cabin.
So much fun watching you do buff stuff yet remaining a girly girl. Thanks for the smiles.
The Peavey-Pole Dancer?
Sometimes, well most times you just make me smile! 😁
I like the idea of a few feet of horizontal siding, a ledger, and then vertical the rest of the way up. Best of both worlds, and some continuity with the shed, while still being different. I'm concerned about moisture penetration with the vertical though.
