Hello Michelle ...I am a huge fan and totally enjoy watching you and all of your projects. I myself am a carpenter for the last 55 years. I am watching you level the posts for your fort. Awesome! You young lady are becoming a master builder right in front of my eyes! Bravo! Magnificent! An old industrial forklift drivers trick Put a heavy piece of timber across front of forks. Lay your long beams parallel with forks sticking straight ahead with ends back by fork rack. Now wrap a chain around forks and the long timbers. Pick up slowly while tilting back. With that little bobcat you got you can probly pick at least a 16 footer maybe 20. Drive slow, you got a lot of forces working
I'm using reclaimed wood too, in all my projects. One day I went to take apart a bed frame someone left outside their home. At the end, stacked all the wood inside an 80l backpack, got the backpack on my back, and since it was quite heavy, decided to pick the skateboard up and carry it home. It actually took me a few good minutes for the idea to drop. "You moron. Put the skate down, place the backpack on the skate, push it effortlessly (more or less) home!" Even one set of skate trucks, with big longboard wheels, screwed in to one end of those beams. Pick the other end up, steer by twisting the beam. Possibilities and variations are endless. Stay legendary. Love your work

Suggest you consider using a water level instead of a string level on your next rustic build. It's an ancient but simple tool that consists of a bucket of water, a long length of small diameter plastic tubing, and some food coloring. The coloring will make it easier to see the water level in the tube. Place the bucket full of water at a fixed spot, then fill the tube by creating a siphon. The bucket must be at an elevation, which allows for a level equilibrium to be reached between the water levels in the bucket and tube without draining the bucket. Use the level in the tube to establish reference points/marks on each one of your vertical supports. Measure up from these marks, which will all be at the same elevation, and then cut the vertical supports at the desired height. You may want to go to RUclips for hints on how to use the water level. Hey Michy, don't know if you are familiar with a water level, but they are a great device. Basically it is a hose with graduations at each end. You fill it with water ( easier to see if you add some food coloring ). You can attach one end at your desired level then simply move the other end to whatever point you wish to be level, or put a level mark and measure up or down as you would with a laser level. There are some where you attach the gauge part to a regular garden hose, and some come as a kit.
Hi Michelle Good to see this project start. Repurposing is always a good thing. This proves that building is fun. Looking forward to seeing the deck completed and you adding on the workroom under the house.

Great video! Barbie the woodsy BUILDINATOR is BACK!!! The opining music promised some beefy construction and this lived up to that promise. Your picture frame deck looks cool. Now as to your hair Dr. Seuss would be pleased to see that style still in vogue.
Michygoss, I know that isn't your name, not the point here, I don't wanna get too technical but, I'm an Ex Bridge engineer, so here goes. The Purpose of this kind of foundation is that the weak point is always going to be the the ground to structure interface, so with that in mind a person can't rely on the foundation to be solid so He/She must construct the structure solid, and allow for movement in the support, ie foundation, l suggest that with that in mind a person must solidify the posts to the structure in such a way, (braces, Plywood gussets etc.) in order to mitigate the anticipated movement of the footing, if the connection point of the post to footing, is too unforgiving then the damage caused by the inevitable movement, of the footing, will cause structural damage. So in essence the wedges placed to help in construction should be removed after construction, to allow for a certain amount of movement. Bridges allow for both types of movement and use bearings, or bearing plates, to maintain Structural integrity, while allowing for the inevitable Expansion of Contraction.
Michelle, a liquid line level works good if you have clear plastic tubing. Thanks for all your videos, I'm too old to do any of that work anymore so I just teach and suggest.😉

I always keep around a few packs of plastic shims that are great for windows , doors, and joist. Also, I have taken 1/8" sheets of plastic and cut them into 4X4 squares to stack. Looking good.
Fun fact... I got into it with my boss a couple years ago regarding the use of impacts to run screws. The ENTIRE factory used impacts to run self-tappers into steel, so I did some research. Every single company that makes self-tappers specifies DO NOT USE AN IMPACT. LOL I even called a couple of them and talked to their support guys and they said the same thing. It's the same with decking screws, they say to not use an impact, yet everyone does it. I had trouble running Camo screws into Trex last summer so I called the local supplier and the first thing they asked me was "Were you using an impact tool?" LOL (I wasn't)
I would have just took them off, put them on the other side of the trees and then picked them back up 15:30 but I guess you can consider it a good workout 😉you're awesome by the way
I'm so glad u were on today, missed you on Sunday, love the build and using the slats from the bridge, awesome! Great you tried something different on your build, looks great!
Well I don't now about you, but when I was a kid building my Fort, it had to have gun ports just incase it was attacked. Pretty fancy, running water AND! a shower. To say nothing of electric lights. You do things with such style. Thanks for sharing. 🤠
Possibly for the future. When I get to the last deck board(or any such scenario) and it ends like yours did, I measure the entire hole minus the desired spaces and then I lay one board atop the other making the combined width match the desired hole width(plus the thickness of the blade). What this allows it, where you made the rip cut you just butt those parts together and you end up with a double ripped set of boards that fills the hole perfectly while maintain the look as if it was one board. I hope this made sense.

Good to know!
I just love your channel! Your mind-blowing tenacity and patience is beyond me. Bravo!

Well I don't now about you, but when I was a kid building my Fort, it had to have gun ports just incase it was attacked. Pretty fancy, running water AND! a shower. To say nothing of electric lights. You do things with such style. Thanks for sharing. 🤠
I love to see how you come up with these ideas on building things and how really great they turn out. You are one talented lady.
Great to see you in another video, project looks great as always ! I wish I was in a place in my older age to do things like you are doing !
MICHY….THIS VIDEO NEEDS MORE THAN ONE THUMB UP….SUPER ENJOYABLE….THANKS…
