I took my chainsaw in to the shop where I bought it. I couldn’t get it to run. I got home & the shop called about 10 min later said it was fine. I went back to the shop. Asked what was wrong. He said flooded. He showed me how to clear out the fuel. It was a little embarrassing, But I never did it again! Lesson learned!

trenching! A friend and I were out removing a beaver dam one day, and he had his chainsaw with him. He grabbed the saw and made two vertical cuts down into the dam. Then we removed all the junk between the cuts and we had a neat trench for the water to flow out. Sure made easy work of it but the saw would have looked like this one when he was done!!! Thank you for this video, the interment was great!

😂😂😂😂 Re: the burial! Interestingly my one and only service of my MS180 when it came back from service it wouldn’t shut off, I immediately knew what this was as they had fitted new choke lever mechanism which a) hadn’t been slotted properly into the c slot in frame which if you break that piece I am advised is a costly repair as it cannot be glued or re attached in any way, but b) the black kill wire with brass end piece hadn’t been pushed along enough so that when throttle was closed the spring you mentioned to lift had no way in connecting to black wire with brass end cap. To kill chainsaw engine I used a screwdriver to connect between spring and black wire with brass end cap. I then did what the service centre should have done in UK and that was fit the choke mechanism correctly and never had a problem since. The service repairer in UK said my bar was worn and replaced that, but didn’t replace chain which I thought was strange, and also my chain sprocket I said was worn and it is, they said it was fine, but I replaced it and the chain and after that I service all my Stihl tools myself and look after them properly. I find them all easy to work on and get parts no problem here in UK. Interestingly will you be showing customer how to operate choke / engine kill switch correctly as if you don’t open throttle on handle before pushing choke down it will cause choke mechanism to come away from slot as the customer had found and prevent switching off chainsaw engine. That is how the choke will jump past that spring to end up in wrong position.

OMG, I laughed my A$$ off with the burial and the music. Hilarious!!! When I'm done using my Stihl chainsaw, I always use my air hose to blow out all the dirt and sawdust. My saw always looks like new. I suppose if I cut wood 8 hours a day, I wouldn't do that just because I'd be really tired. That dirt looked like a bunch of centipedes. How the heck did all that get in that tank? I'm thinking his fuel mix container is full of dirt. Another fine video and I just keep on learning from you. Thank you! John from MI

I watched your previous MS 170 repair -- the one for 'bar chain broken', and you replaced the air filter for that. I seem to remember that when you started that saw, there was quite a lot of exhaust smoke. When you started this saw (in this video), I did not notice any exhaust smoke. I wonder why this might be? I have no current experience with small engines -- and the tiny amount I did have was more years ago than I like to think of. Your repair and servicing skills deeply impress me. You sure do excellent work.

Hey Erica, it seems to me the detent spring on the MS 170 is sprung too strong for the one-sided pivot of the lever. I think if you bend it back to take some pressure out of it, it'll allow the lever to move a little less prone to popping out of the socket. Hilarious funeral and "tomb" stone inscriptions, by the way!😉👍

I'd be interested in your opinion on using a pressure washer to clean a chainsaw. Is it safe if you securely block the air intake, or is it a bad idea?
About dirt (as opposed to sawdust) in a saw, I've sometimes used a chainsaw to assist in extracting the root ball of a tree stump. Not a great idea I know, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. 😔

  • @steveott1884

Using a chainsaw to access the septic tank? That's crazy. I do septic system inspections. Summer and winter. As long as the house is in use the tank stays warm and the dirt on top of the tank is thawed and easy to dig up.
