The intersection of Fitness and Trail - 2020 Specialized Sirrus X 3.0 Fitness Dual Sport Hybrid Bike

- We're checking out the 2020 Specialized Sirrus X 3.0. This is a really interesting hybrid with wide 42mm tires, a 1x9 drivetrain and a lightweight frame and fork. The bike is pretty fun to ride, with room for fenders, bike racks, and a kickstand. The 1x9 drivetrain allows for a very simple operation and a clean look. It has a 11-42t cassette with a 40t chainring allowing it to have plenty of gear range for most conditions.

I have this bike in black. It's great for city riding, particularly when the streets are in bad shape.
Completely agree. I like this bike very much.
The low-end gear inches are nothing to write home about. Attractive bike, but I'm holding out for a triple on the front!
thanks James this video has helped me decide from the 2.0 and the 3.0.
3.0 is the winner going to order it now.
I just purchased a large 2021 Sirrus X 3.0 in black today. Originally, I was looking for a 2020 or 2021 X 2.0, in the dove gray or gloss clay. I have been searching so many places, so today I called a local bike shop and they had two Sirrus X's in stock, a large in black and a small in dusty lilac, so I bought the large.
I love this bike. I had issues with the crankset like a lot of people with this bike but once my LBS got instructions from Specialized on how to properly fix it, it has been a dream. Glad they found the solution.
Glad they got you solved.
In riding terms (road, gravel trails) what is the better bike to choose. Sirrus or Sirrus X? Thank you in advance
Looking or a bike for daily use to help get my endurance up for mountain biking. Don’t think I want to go full road bike or full gravel. Would this be a good option? Not looking to spend a fortune either. Just something to get some exercise on in the mornings before work
Go for it!
you have the giant cypress 3 disk , trek verve or this one, depending on the city you have, meaning how bad the roads are in your city, if they are are really bad i seriously recommend the giant cypress 3 because of the 55 mm tires it can use if the roads are really bad or thinner if they are good. so basically the specialized sirrus x or trek verve or giant cypress 3 should offer greeat options escially with the suspension saddle cypress 3 has!
Man, you're reviews are fucking awesome. Straight forward and right to the point.
Thanks for the kind words.
Is it just the tires and 1x drivetrain which differ vs the non x 3.0 model?
great review. i wonder how it compares to Trek FX bike models.
How soes the sirrus X 3.0 compare to the Beastly Hybrid Bike With Mountain Bike? I mean they seem similar except for geometry? James Bike Guy, what is your thought on this? Thanks.
Pretty different bikes actually. Depends on what you plan to use them for
Looking forward to a review of the Sirrus 6.0, which appears to be a pretty sweet ride
Never seen a 6.0 but maybe soon?
James, do you think this bike is much more capable on trails than the 'Trek Verve 2'? (Verve has 45mm tires)
Yes. I think the body positioning on a bike makes as much difference or more than tires. The position on a verb would not lend it to be all that confident off road
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thanks. Verve is more upright?
That drivetrain looks like a low end setup from a walmart bike to me. Im talking specifically looks.
lol, I suppose.
Hi ! do you know if it's possible to put 2×9 drivetrain ? From France ;)
I’m having a hard time conceptualizing the quality of the Advent drivetrain. Could you compare it to a Shimano drivetrain? For example, is it on the same tier as the Shimano Alivio groupset?
Edit: I also wish I bought this bike because that pink is just GORGEOUS
This is similar in quality around the older Deore M6000 group and the new Alivio M4000. Many of the features such as a ball bearing shifter and clutch make it nicer than the Alivio, but its not quite a full on Deore setup.
I bought this color and it's great, however it doesn't pop like it's does in the video. I'd argue it's more subtle. The drivetrain is super smooth with quick shifting, no grinding feel.
@@paigeh2294 tbh I’ve always wanted a pink bike, thought not the neon pink that many young girl’s bikes come in. The subtle, dusty pink of this bike has its own sort of beauty!
Should you ever ride with the clutch disengaged or is it just for removing rear wheel
You shouldn't, the chain gets loose and it can fall out of the crankset
between the sirrus X 3.0, Giant Escape Disc 1 and Trek FX 3 disc all roughly at $800 what would you pick?
Personally I really like the Sirrus X
Is this XS frame?
Any idea how much the Medium x 3.0 weighs?
Anyone know if this would be good on trails? Would use this mostly for city riding and commuting but would love to get it to some mild new England trails. Originally wanted a mountain bike but not feasible for everyday city riding.
I ended up buying this very bike and paint scheme and can confirm it handles like butter on trails.
It's actually better on trails than on the street.
@@nevinssean it really does! I feel like I can pedal and go faster on the thin dirt next to all the paths I ride. Might just be bc of the tires. Great, underrated bike.
@@paigeh2294 Yeah, I actually bought this bike yesterday and took it on a 4 hour ride immediately, both trails and street. I am now trying to figure out how to make it faster on the street, not super happy with that aspect. I think you may be right though, it might just be the tires. Let me know if you find a fix and happy riding!
@@nevinssean It's absolutely the tires, the wider you go, the harder it will be to get them going. Not to mention you'll need a smoother tread pattern. I'm ok with these tires for now as I'm trying to get into better shape. Once I cut my weight down, I'll switch to a tire with smoother tread. I do love the width on these and would like to go oven wider as they look baller. Something like Schwalbe Super Moto X if I can find them in a 29
Can you make a video on how to get one of these before November? Lol...I’m on Chicago and have been looking for over a month.
Good luck, I know its tough to find bikes right now.
I ordered my Sirrus 2.0 through Erik’s bike and and board in the Chicago area just a few weeks ago - try them.
Also can't find one in stock anywhere, also heard several reports of build quality issues....and are they kidding with that color ?
Is this a unisex bike?
Need help, Sirrus 3.0, Giant Fastroad SL3 or BMC ac02 three and why?
Ride em and decide
What size frame large, small ect
How do you work the gear shifts? On 3.0 women
thumb and index finger.
The X 3.0 feels to heavy compare the 3.0 is lighter perfect for the city and also the carbon folk makes great difference = speedy Gonzales:)
Practically identical to my TREK FX2
Except virtually every spec...
I ride the fx 2 as well and this bike is literally nothing like the fx. Except maybe the frame and fork are similar metals, but the key word is “similar”.
I was interested in this and then read reviews on specialized and other sites both sirrus and sirrus X have major problems with crank arm failing. Too bad but once I hear of multiple people with the same problem it is a no for me. And it doesn't appear like an easy fix either.
It can be easily fixed by an authorized specialized retailer. I ordered one and they know exactly how to fix it.
It's a change in the installation, easy fix that any Sirrus will have at this point.
Really so what if you would of bought the bike before hearing critics, it's what you call recall like any other product in the market. It's simple you get a recall & problem is fixed.
I own this bike my self, and I bought it as the same day that specialized told their costumers to stop riding and return it to their local LBS. So, that's what I did. My LBS fixed the problem, and since then it has worked sooo smoothly. I've owned it for over a month, and I've taken it for rides in the woods, for long rides and I also take this bike to work every day. I haven't had a single problem with the cranks yet, and I ride it aloooot. So, if you're concerned - just tell your bicycle dealer/LBS that you've read about these problems, and that Specialized has ordered their dealers to fix the crank - then it won't be a problem! It's a fantastic bike, and I can highly recommend it!
@@zansandraify how is it on trail riding? I've wanted to get a mountain bike for trail riding even though getting to trails might be difficult in my city. I'll mostly be riding this for city commuting but I would love to take it on some mild trails if it can handle it.
What is the difference between sirrus x 3.0 vs x 4.0?
Frame, Fork, Wheels, Components, Shock.... Most of the things.
Jamesthebikeguy will you do a review on sirrus x 4.0?
do you work at a bike shop? can i order one through you?
Specialized does not allow shipping, so its best to find a Specialized dealer near you.
Which size is the test bike?
XS
I have this bike in black and I'd love to change the tires to a baby blue to customize with the baby blue accents of the bike just for the hell of it. Anyone know a company that makes good colored quality tires and accessories for Specialized!!!!!???
That would be a cool upgrade
@@Jamesthebikeguy any suggestions!?
I would just buy motorcycle rim decals.
Do you know if specialzed started to ship that bike? I order my x3 since may and the shop still didn’t receive it... the problem with the crank set also is annoying me
The crankset will prob be a non-issue since the fix is already in place.
Is that pink ?
Yes, comes in a few different colors
funny!!!
Nice skillbuilding/bar hopper James. Wanted to invite you to check out Alternative Cycling Network's livestream. Would enjoy your comments in a usualy funny chat room. Good group of peoples.
Thanks for the suggestion. I just subscribed to their channel, might get to watch a live stream. I have been watching Spindatt for a year or so, I didn't know he had a livestream channel as well.
@@Jamesthebikeguy Him Russ from Path less Petalled, Michael from Locked in joined forces. The perspectives are diverse, the chat is a blast,( we started a drinking game last night. Based on every time Eric's dial up AOL wifi caused him to cut out, we had to take a drink.) I thought you'd enjoy it, as well as your perspectives, and knowledge would be great to have in the chat.
How often are they doing streams?
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thursday's at 5 Cali time.
More info please
Yeah this was a bit shorter than many of my videos. Next time!
Why it has quick release - no go for disc brake! Aluminium fork also not good idea for gravel... all in all very disappointed new bike.. Sorry
Unique options not shared by most.
Jamesthebikeguy : quick release and disc is unique, but isn't normals standart...
OK. Who else is thinking “Pepto Bismol?”
lol
