Gravel Hybrid Bike? Specialized Sirrus X 2.0 Fitness Hybrid Bike Wide Tires Feature Review &Weight

- In this video we check out the least expensive version of the Specialized Sirrus X. This Sirrus X 2.0 is a great hybrid bike that we might dare to call a gravel bike. It combines the benefits of a fast & light fitness hybrid with the loose surface capabilities of a dual sport bike. What Specialized ended up with is a very easy to use 1x8 drivetrain, wide 700x42c tires, and an overall package that makes for a perfect commuter, neighborhood bike, or even gravel or dirt rail-trail machine.

Just bought this bike and am in love. Our wedding is next saturday.
I purchased this bike and I must say it’s a game changer. Fast acceleration and can take on urban rides. You do still feel the pot holes but I strongly recommend this bike!
Thanks for sharing! have fun.
Did you consider a hardtail MTB? Just wondering, cheers!
Nathan Johnson This year marks my first time buying a bike. My first couple of bikes were hardtail MTB. My first one was a Schwinn Sidewinder. Only was able to ride it for 3 days up until it had major issues. Then I purchased a GT Aggressor Pro which I returned because it wasn’t as quick as I would like it to be. This bike’s tires makes it feel like a MTB due to its tires and yet it keeps up with traffic while in the road.
@@donbo9915 I'm looking into getting my first bike for daily commuting(light travels to and from work/friends houses and exercise). Would you recommend this bike?
@Gregory Wayne For those kind of rides, I would recommend this bike. I’ve riding to work and been doing 35 mile rides with some friends. The path includes basic bike paths, gravel, and street riding and this bike tackles them all. I would add that it may not keep up with road bikes, but you should be if your friends are riding similar bikes. Cheers
Bike arrived about a week ago .. Sun was out so took it out for its 1st ride today, a nice gentle 16 miles along a cycle path to Bath and back. Nice feel about the bike, brakes are responsive and gears quite smooth. Bike looks great in black. Brought the bike to mix up hiking training and to improve cardio fitness. When I got off the bike for a break ( Could not wait to get back on it ) ... I will post a video soon when I take it on the Tarka way in Devon...
As someone who owns this bike, this review is pretty spot on. I’ve had this bike for a few months now. Within the first week and a half, I managed to put 100+ miles on it. One thing to note is this thing can really pick up some speed on the downhill. I’m definitely enjoying it!
What was your v-max? I'm wondering if 1x drive train can replace 2x. Especially on flat road. Thanks!
I have the 2019 in the expert carbon and have over 7k miles on it in just a smidge over 1 year. Definitely a great all around bike.
@@j5k395tks if your on flat roads then yes! Yes a 1x can replace a 2x system. Heck I want a bigger chain ring on mine.
i just got the bike, i find it relatively slow downhill cause the 8th gear is not enough compared to my old 7 internal geared bike. Otherwise it's a fantastic bike, rides really well.
I’m 61 just got this bike today, truly amazing ride, speed speed and more speed, lite and good looking
I have this Bike and it is amazing for commuting. I Can also confidently take it down any of the gravel trails which is a plus as well. And I'm not a speedy guy so the gearset is perfectly fine for me and in top gear I don't feel like I wish I had more. Great review.
Got this bike new earlier this year for commuting, replacing a used Felt Verza that I was commuting on, and that replaced me using my Honda HRV to commute. Based on my experiences, it's a great bike for commuting and running small erramds around town. I haven't taken it on any nature trails, but I'm not much of a nature trail person.
Finding these Sirrus X bikes is difficult. For about 3 weeks, I had been searching for this one. Finally, I called one bike shop, even though it’s a little far away (like almost 1.5 hours from my house) they had received a few the day before I called. So I placed my order immediately for the Dove Grey Acid Pink Silver one. Now I am just waiting till its ready for pick it up. Can't Wait!
Hope you like it i have this same bike
@@mrstrings I really do. it's a very smooth riding bike. The only thing that is a little annoying is the rear disc brake and that it's rubbing, slightly on the brake pad. I tried to reposition the calipers that hold and it improved it a little, but it still there. I will continue with maybe working with it. This is my first bike that has disc brakes so maybe its something that is normal from what I have read. I feel that it's something simple. Overall, I really enjoy it and love that it's a 1x drive time. So simple. :)
G. G. Haven’t experienced it with mine, the rear brake is powerful while the front a little less strong and i like it that way. Is my first with disc brakes as well. The only thing I’d change is the pedals, they are slippery but i guess that’s something everyone does on the bikes
I’m a big fan of Advent. I recently did a budget build with Advent 9-speed and drop bar shifters. It works great and is rock solid. It’s an excellent choice for a bike like this.
Right on!
I have been using this bike for the last 4 months, my friend lent it to me to get me into cycling. I have taken this thing on some very Gnarly back fire roads/ATV trails and it just keeps on trucking. The versatility this thing has is so well balanced as a all in one option, I have been comparing it to gravel and mountain bikes and its geometry is nailed right in the middle. Love this bike!
Nice
I recently bought the Sirius 2.0 and love it. I bought it used but maybe it had 5 miles on it and I couldn't pass up the deal. I love it and have put on a few hundred miles in the past 2 months. It has a 2x8 drivetrain and I would be find w/ a 1x drivetrain. I never shift the front detailer as it's unnecessary. The promax hydraulic disk brakes are great, at the same time we bought an REI Co-Op bike and it has Tektro mechanic disk...I prefer the ProMax. They are quieter and I haven't had any pad contamination issues where I did with the Tektro. Also the tires, We had issues w/ the REI Co-Op Vee tires (dry rotted in 3 months from new) and on my Specialized no issues at all.
Just got back from New York, spent a day there just riding this bike all over the city, I was impressed! It was a rental bike so it had its fare use, but it ran really good. I already have a full suspension mob and a proper road bike, but this just fits in a different category. trying ton convince myself I don't need one more bike, but having tested one of these it's really hard not to.
How does it ride compared to the Trek FX 2 Disc? Also in general which is better Trek or Specialized?
You do a great job with these videos, James - thank you! I've been looking at all these flat bar bikes in this range and the thorough reviews you give are well-paced and very informative. :D
Thank ya!
+1 - This is a terrific review video. Super helpful. Great stuff.
I got this bike today and I am freaking love it
I went to bike shop today and didn’t even notice it has hydraulic brakes until watching your video. This thing is perfect for my gf as a start
why not all bikes use shrader valve? Would be more convenient (can use gas station air pump, can use your own car's air pump and so on)
We bought one today for my dad and I love the shifters I love them
I am going to swap the front 40t ring for a 36t to make my sirrus a better climber. Another good thing about single front ring bikes. At 65, I don't mind trading better climbing for top gear speed.
I own this bike and it’s amazing. So comfortable, fast, and so much fun to ride
This is a life saver when you need one the most!
getting back into cycling again thanks to cycle to work scheme and this bike is the one i chosen!
Great review here. I am planning to buy a bike and I want your opinion. This or Scott sub cross 30? Thank you.
Great video! 👍 I’m 5’9” , should I get M or L? Thanks!
Finally, AWSOME review, only problem specialized keep delaying my order & gets backed each week, I just my 2.0 x asap ,
Hey when did you pre order ??? i JUST ordered my about an hour ago at the specialized retail store in so-cal. im hoping they get some privilege and get them earlier over a licensed bike shop
What about steep hills? Will the 1x8 drivetrain offer enough variance and ease to make it up the hill?
Just realize is this video taken in the parking lot behind Landry's bike on commonwealth ave!
I really enjoy your videos and recently subbed. I do wish you would talk about the price of the bikes and items that you review, a ballpark figure would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and keep up the great work!
Noted, but since I am not selling the bike and these videos are only about 60% viewed in the USA, pricing is not great at least from my eyes.
Great review, I am debating between this and the regular Sirrus. I like the bigger tires, but I do spend the majority of my time on the pavement, with just occasional off roading. In your opinion, would it still make sense to get the X, or just stick with the regular Sirrus? Also, I was wondering if you knew if it were possible to fit slightly larger tires on the regular Sirrus? I know it’s somewhat limited. Thanks
Thanks for this review, if I wanted to tackle some offroad trails but also use it on trails which X.0 would you suggest? It'll serve to go to work but I'd like to cross some fields with hard pack dirt on it if I needed to.
Yes great info as usual but how does it ride?
Would this be good for light trails? Or should I look into something. Else?
I love this bike! Go for it if your on the fence.
Looking for some advice please. This bike arrived today and the back brakes were rubbing a little and catching the disk so I went to unscrew the break to try and realign it but all the break fluid ran out. Now my break is loose and hardly works. Any advise please?? 😊
Great video mate , thinking of buying it, seems interesting under my use. Looking for a comfortable , hybrid bike , fast on roads , pavements, and good on gravel. Also doing small and long rides without having and major issues on hills too
Go for it!
This bike is great for all those things!
Very good review. Precise and to the point. Spot on!!!
@2:55
40t or 30t chainring ?
If it's 40t it's more usable as a computing bike. 30t chainring is more for climbing.
Is this a better bike than a Trex fx 2
I'm gettin old, that bike looks cool.
Ain't nothing wrong with that. Its a sweet looking bike.
I like the dove gray, but I like stealth black as well, I'm selling all my bikes to get this one.
Yea I’m turning 40 and moving to more practical ‘cool’ bikes and this is it lol
@@Lanterns_light i ended up getting a Surly Midnight Special. What a great bike.
Dominic Walker thank you, I’ll check it out
I always buy specialized bikes and I just bought one of these last week, its blinding to look at, proper sexy bike but I really don't understand the benefit of having one drive chain at the front?. Its basically like being stuck in 2nd gear?, can't move up to the highest gear to get some speed up because there ain't any other gear to go up too?.
FYI: There’s a 3+ month wait for this bike at Specialized dealers in the states.
Yeah bikes are hard to get right now
I kinda gave up on wating, ordered it June 3 , eta June 15,19, July 5, July 17 w/ no guarantee , I’ll wait for a Black Friday deal or hopefully find it on marketplace or offer up
@@imstillhereileft7530 I feel your pain. I ordered mine early May, still nothing.
Got one at a local bike shop in my area. This was just Friday 7/10 got a call yesterday Saturday 7/11 it was built and ready to be picked up. Picking it tomorrow! Call your local bike shops!
@@elvecinomusic your right i just called a local shop too. They have em in size small. Im usually medium but a small is fine since im 5'7
@KeithBlade Hello. Does the frame of this sirrus 1.0 bike support wider tires? 35?
Is microshiftngood or should you spring for Shimano?
How is this bike at climbing hills? With the 1x8 setup my concern is that the low gear wont be low enough to climb hills while commuting
If you a pretty strong rider you won't have any problems. If your more of a casual rider you should still do just fine unless you have some really steep hills.
Is pretty good climbing i have one and my neighborhood has some hills
Great review, thankyou for taking the time, very useful as this bike is on my shortlist.
I'm fairly new to cycling and I previously had a Crosstrail that was stolen. Now I absolutely love my Sirrus X 2.0 but I have one problem with it, the chain keeps on jumping off at the front. Could it be that the chain is too loose and if so can it be tensioned? I also feel that it could do with an extra gear at the top, but I guess I'll have to live with that. Thanks.
Man, these keep getting harder to find!
I have been considering swapping from my Diverge to a Sirrus X 5.0 since my right shoulder no longer wants to play nice with drop bars. Those are on perpetual backorder. The 4.0 was showing available briefly, but I hesitated and missed my chance to get my order in.
Yesterday, I saw one of these 2.0 pop up on marketplace for a very reasonable price, so I scooped it up. It was literally brand new and never ridden and appears to be the 21/22 model currently on their website.
Seems like a relatively solid bike, but well below my usual desired spec level. Who am I kidding though, I'm a chubby, middle-aged dude who rides 10-20 miles at a time and this is perfect for that. It's going to be tough bringing myself to sell my Diverge. That thing is incredible!
That's cool, I seen one today on fb marketplace for 500, how much did you get yours for I you don't mind me asking.
@@gregramirez774 I talked them down from 500 to 450. I've been riding it and really like it. I ended up buying a Microshift Advent 9 speed shifter and cassette and upgraded from 8 to 9 speed using the existing derailleur. Really nice ride and I'm happy with it.
@@aaronbehindbars Good deal, I owned just a regular sirrus with v brakes and loved it, these X series seem next level. Good upgrade extra gear definitely makes a difference. Enjoy!
Perfect bike for rural and city biking
oh wow you’re mentioning the kickstand mount now, thanks. great video btw!
lol, it comes in waves. Sometimes I remember to note sometimes not. Glad you like it though.
Jamesthebikeguy hey by the way is it hard to change the front sprocket on that bike?
I have a 2017 Sirrus Elite that I use for gravel and road riding. I want to change my tires. I wonder if I could use a 700x42c tire?
Hi great review. I just ordered the 2021 version. I’m 177cm tall and my local retailer recommended L size. But I find the top tube a little tall. Is this normal?
I had just a regular sirrus and the same height as you forget if was a medium or large but top tube is sort of high, but love these fame designs, feel quick, nimble, and stiff. Enjoy your X, you can probably ride a medium but I feel more adult on a large. 🙂
the prob w specialised in general is the components is always lackluster or taking shortcuts, e.g. they'll market something as an ultegra build and only the rear mech and shifter are ultegra.. this practice turned me off spech a long time ago
Ehh, it really depends on the model. Some bikes are full, some are not. But there are trade-offs too. Do you want a complete group but lower lever/higher price, or a mix but generally better parts?
I don't know about the other models but this one is really good, most of the other manufacturers put mechanical tektro, acera or altus 3*8 and the frames Don't look as good as this one
Got this bike two months ago, I use it almost everyday for commuting in Mexico City and it's absolutely perfect for the job.
Addressing some comments I read here:
1. zero issues with the chain
2. zero issues with tires (Mexico city streets are far from smooth and clean)
3. 1x8 is more than enough for the job... in fact I change the cassette from the stock 12-42 to a 11-34 and I barely ever use the lowest and highest gears
I also upgraded the pedals and grips because the specialized ones that came with it were really cheap.
Is it possible to install a chain guide to the Sirrus X 2.0? I have the same one and not sure which type of chain guide to get.
Commuter bike with 1× 8 drivetrain. Sounds like as you go thru the gears it would top-out quickly. Seems more an off road gravel riders bike than a serious bike for cmmuting.
Im torn between a fitness bike or a gravel bike. I no longer do mtb trails but venture out to light dirt occasionally. Tried road bike but so many irresponsible motorists around. So thinking about 50:50 road and dirt; hence gravel bike or fithess. Gravel bike is too expensive though owing to the high end components and frame they usually have and likewise to the hype. However im willing to invest. But if fitness bike can do the job, why not. It’s far cheaper. Please help. Thanks
so my schwinn taff is totally trash that i bought from wal;mart...3rd time bringing it to the shop and im fed up.. the shop should me the marin ds1 and itsd a whopping 599...my taff was like 200 tops i think so what makes this other make worth another 300?? I love how its a hybrid and i noticed it feels a lot faster and lighter than my taff which is something i really wanted...but 599 is nuts...is there anything else that similar to the marin maybe a schwinn dual sport ???
I found one in my local bike store in small. Im 5'6 and the sales person said i should be fine. I had a medium mtb and that thing felt big for me.
5'6" and 28" or longer inseam you deff are a medium
Great bike hope to get it soon.
I was looking at a specialized and a Scott sub 50 , the specialized only has 16 gears and the Scott has 24 as I do hills and flat what would be the best for speed and hills, plus with this bike there doesn’t seem to be much clearance in regards to mud guards
Can I change the drivetrain with Shimano Deore 10-51 cassette and derailleur and 42t crank?
yo me compre la misma me gusto pero se me rompio donde va el pedal no la e podido usar mucho tengo que esperar el repuesto que me llegara esta semana para arreglarla
Gonna be getting this bike this year hopefully, not sure which colour imma get tho
Is this better than the FX disc 2
Great review! Is this bike suitable for rear child seat?
Yes it would work with a child seat
Can I put drops on it?
Luckily found one at a local bike shop in Memphis a week ago .
Nice!
Really nice bike my only negative are the micro shift shifting.
James the bike guy
I am looking for a used hybrid with three cogs, 27 gears . What would a sensible tire size be for gravel roads, pavement riding.
I live off a gravel road and would be riding around on it, but also pavement.
Hi, are these tyres as fast as 700x35?
Nice bike but the Specilaized brand is known for cutting prices on the parts they don't make themselves, hence the Microshift derailleur and crankset instead of the more reliable and expensive Shimano or Sram.
you said 40t chainring but the graphic said 30t chainring? And you said 11-42 cassette but the graphic said 12-42?
this one or the trek FX1? I'll use it pretty much exclusively as a commuter bike
After doing a bit more research, I figured out the drivetrain is pretty good on this bike! Overall, it’s pretty nice. I wonder how that 1x8 would do on climbs
Its got a full 42t rear cog, so it will be plenty good on the climbs.
Nice review, I planing to buy it, and change all drive train with my old slx group, hope it works 'cause is bi plate
Sounds fun!
I want something that i can use to ride on long distance roads but also something that i can use to go up and down hills through the streets as well would this be a good option? Or should I get a road bike?
This can do it.
Where should i pick sirrus 3.0 or sirrus x 2.0? I’m more on long ride, climbing hills. Thanks in advance
Sirrus 3.0
Can you use 25mm tyres on these rims? Thanks
Just picked this bike up today!
Congrats 👏
Is this a good bike for very long rides ?
Do you have a FX sport carbon 4 to review? Videos are awesome as always. 👊
I have not video's one. I know the bike shops are having tough time getting bikes but if one comes available for me to video I'll try
Which would you say is best: This or Trek FX 2 Disc?
Depends on where you are using it. That said personally I love the Sirrus X line.
For me I this will be my first 1x drive and that is the reason I am going with this bike as well as disc brakes.
@@kayhanyegenoglu hello mate, I just read your comment that mentions the 1x drive chain, I posted a comment explaining how this feature is my only problem with the bike?. Its like being stuck in second gear, can't move upto 3 to go faster because the one drive is all there is?.
Just wondered if you could shed some light on what's good about this feature?, cheers kayhan
@@itsalondonthing9562 Hi mate. For me I got interested in the 1x drive after having issues with my traditional gears on my bike. Less moving parts, lighter, easier maintenance. I did purchase the Specialized Sirrus X 2.0 with 1x drive and I have been happy with it for hybrid riding situations. Thanks for writing back.
How much is this im about to get me one
do you think theres enought clearance to install a mud guard? thanks for your video, was very helpfull!
Mudguards are plug and play, ther is a slot for them
Just purchased this bike and love to combo of comfort and speed. If I upgrade to the 1x9 Microshift, other than the clutch, what other differences would I notice while riding? Thanks!
Smoother transition between gears
Thanks for the info! Would it help with hills at all?
Can someone help me in picking the right bike?? I am looking at the san rafael DS 1 for 599. But is there something better than this?
Something similar on a budget Guys £300/£400 👍Probably just ride it to work 20 mins and sometimes for a bit of fun out about
I'm doing 'The Tour de Mon' (77 miles) next week on my Sirrus X 2.0, is it a good idea on this bike?
Sure, have fun.
I must have got a crappy build. My chain falls off any time I ride off of a curb. I think it's just due to the derailleur not having a clutch. Otherwise, it's solid.
I honestly cant recommend my new bike enough a ribble. Dont get too excited not a raod bike the commutor hybrid Shimano comes 11.5kg 25.4lbs with a quick carbon seat and post change and the rack gone its already 10kg5lbs light for a hybrid carbon folks pretty much full acera altus with the exception of the brake rotors. All for 600uk pounds. Best frame i could find anyway ive got Shimano 105fd and rd off a trek road bike ill get a 105 casette avd a alivio shifter for the back and that'll do. More than good enough for me. I really look forward to using my bike now. Especially since I was using a claud butler hybrid heavy as hell. 15,kg at least. Said trek a madone 2.3 is only 8lbs lighter. I fly about now.
Just ordered this bike after reading loads of reviews. My only concern is people mentioning the chain jumping off the front sprocket ? Not sure if this is a issue on the 2021 model ,
I believe that has been solved. Not something that I have heard much of anymore.
Thank you
How it s was solved?
@@alextt9809 Had the bike for over a year now and no problems with the chain. No problem with the bike I have fitted Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres, as do a lot of cycle track riding, and it gives ease of mind re puncture protection ( Works great , no problems for a year ) Good hybrid bike .
@@alextt9809 No ideal tbh..But what ever they done ,the chain has not fell off once
Nice bike and I would love to commute around the neighborhood with it, not sure about the color tho. Would love to get a louder color to make myself more visible
That would be cool!
Man this sounds like everything I want!
What is the most narrow tire that can be installed on these rims? Just curious as it relates to flexibility of wheel width. Thank you.
Prob 32c would be the narrowest I would recommend
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thank you for your reply. That’s was I wondering.
Looks just like the roll
Would you recommend the Trek FX 3 or the Sirrus X 2.0. ?
Depends what you are needing. More road then the FX is better, more dirt/gravel path than the X is better. Keep in mind the FX3 is more like a X 3.0 in parts spec/quality
Front tire blew out three times in less than 2 months. Third one almost cost me😬
hola amigos tengo una sirrus 2,0 la uso a diario y me gustaria cambiarle el plato por uno de 48 dientes. alguien tiene una opinion?
Price of this cycle?
