This guy's ideas are way too relevant to go this under appreciated for this long. Take a look fellas, the human condition doesn't get any deeper or more practical than this.
I like this theory of brain. We experience not out there but in our brain. Sometimes I think that my brain plays with me some tricks. I can't escape what I imagine. I start watching what my brain project in the slide show. What I can't do it in the outside, is possible in my imagination. Imagination is a power that makes us free and creative. We're not perfect, everything in human isn't perfect, our custom, education, politic, beliefs and other things. We struggle sometimes because what we take it as the truth for the others isn't the truth, and that comes from where did we receive information? And how do we interpret them? People always seek perfection, as an example in the matter of beliefs, it's all about in what do we believe? If we assume that our belief is perfect because we imagine it perfect or the process of information tells us that is so, without taking the struggle to prove it, here we make a big mistake. We need to put what we receive from information to the test, I can't believe in everything that I receive from the outside even what my brain shows me in the slide show. For that we always need to think observe and analyse things to understand and to go from the idea that we don't need to know all the answers, we n't live with approximate answers without being frightened, just being lost in this mysterious life. Thanks for this video; there're a lot of things to understand and to learn. Thank you Professor.
hi everyone, so i have just finished "atomic habits", an aexcelent book. this technic is described in the book aswell with some more depth by the name of "habit stacking". its really insteresting to me to recongnise the limits of our consious power and think about the pitch we are playing in, which rules are dictated by our brain.
Spot on, thx! Though we shouldn't all take our 'choices' for granted either, like within a 'culture' of Poverty and constant uncertainty about 'Tomorrow', where oftentimes the *_only_* choice is whatever's _available,_ 'NOW'!
Because each of us has a multiple of interests that fight each other, we have appetite and yet also pride and above that reason, and all of them fight each other
I succumbed to bad impulses about 4 times in my life and each time the repercussions were devastating...and the last two times might have destroyed my life forever, socially and medically.
Is it to see if we will like the thing or not. Like the phrase you never know until you try. Right ? I wouldn't eat something I'm allergic too I wouldn't put anything on my body I won't take well too. Doesn't a person need experiences in life to figure out who they are and what they truly like.
Except that hepatitis is actually serious, and presumably the injections to cure it actually work. Oh, and no-one was forcing him to have it on pain of imprisonment/ostracization/losing his job. But yeah, other than that it's an identical scenario...

Agreed, there's a lot of BAD videos on Big Think that have a lot more views than this one here.
Valid points. Also, I'm glad your liver has healed.
4 years old and only 9,100 views? what? meanwhile youtube is pumping my feed full of "top 10 videos".
I want more of these videos.
at least top 10 videos have lost popularity now..

Reward substitution. Thank you for sharing this!
This video very relevant, is over 5 years old, has less than 5k views, and has only 3 (now four) comments? wtf
maybe it's because of the guy's face. i see no difference to other videos with a lot more views
Yes, that's the implication.
One of the best videos I have ever seen
I've only today discovered Mr Ariely. I will definitely be investigating more of his material.
I discovered him on Coursera. His course is awesome

Your videos are very interesting.
I've never texted and driven in my entire life. Mainly because I don't know how to drive so I ride a motorcycle and you can't text while on that.
