I’ve always been surrounded by Malay/Muslim Friends since young. It’s been 11 years now and not a single one was EVER discriminating towards trans people. In fact, we adore them. Sure they don’t support trans because of religious belief but that doesn’t mean they hold a grudge against them. (just a small fyi: I’m from Singapore)
I hope in Malaysia, the understanding of trans people will increase.. I think a lot of muslims here don't want to see trans people to live a hard life and are compassionate towards trans people.. Just some hateful men and old people have preconceived notions about trans people.
My friend was taken by JAWI one time because she and her husband did not bring their marriage cert and her husband forgot their wedding anniversary. He also forgot their children's birthdays. They both had to call their parents.
Hello... I am Brazilian and I live in Brazil. I met the channel "unreported world" recently and I really enjoyed it and already subscribed to this channel on youtube. These are amazing documentaries that thrills me a lot and makes me improve my English learning. I love you guys ... Congratulations for the amazing reports.
Being born as a Malaysia, I remember being prejudice against trans women because from where I grow up there is a street where it is known for trans women prostitution. I remembering people around me comment with harsh criticism or looking down on them. But as I grew older, through the exposure from Internet. It taught me about human rights, and I started having change of mind about the community. Started accepting everyone identify despite their gender, started making friends without the thoughts of their identify. After watching this video, it’s saddens me. Because I encounter few transgender women in my life here in Malaysia, and some of them are glamorous which sometime has a hidden scar that I might not seen. Some of them might be portrayed as shame and dirty when all they do is making a living and trying to fit in to this harsh reality. It definitely open my eye. From my personal experiences, I encounter with trans women working in shopping mall as receptionist in the capital. They don’t get much prejudice, or maybe they do I just wasn’t there. I think it’s because they fully transform or become the beautiful women they are.
Hi ! Pada saya , mereka semua tak salah pun . Tapi perbuatan transgender adalah tak sihat untuk society . Kita support mereka untuk kembali kepada fitrah mereka . People who are not Muslim can't be arrested if they stay together in one room without the marriage certificate. It's fine. We respect. But for the Muslims, it's wrong
Hahah just the fact that you feel the need to write the words “It’s fine, we respect” It means you actually do not. You should teach your children to not feel controlling of other people’s life. Live and let life. Teach them that religion is politics too. Islam is not a harmless philosophy. It’s actually quite dark in some verses. You people need to start watching your own business.
aldeology Muslims don't actually bother non- Muslims. Like literally. Even if u see this side of Malaysian laws, our citizens r actually the opposite. Any religion we r fine. The police only does their job. Since the non Muslims knows that they shouldn't stay alone with someone Muslim, they should not do it. But those who do, gets punished. (Well not that bad)
Khai SinB Hyung you have been taught to punish, to fear. You should be more forgiving. There are educated and very good families all over the world who don’t need the fear of judgment from God to stay clean and life a life full of integrity. There are men loving their wifes and sons and daughters, providing and staying faithful without being religious because they have morals, a conscience, education. And none of these people feels the right to punish other people who don’t harm them. You should prison thiefs, frauds and killers. People like to have sex, you can’t stop that. It’s absurd, hypocrisy. You can’t control what people want to do. It’s their right, even if they regret it later for a reason or another, we came in this world to learn from our experiences. Whatever. I hope these countries wake up some day. Have a nice day.
aldeology sorry but what u see is not what I learn. And lol, the media justs makes it worst. In class, my teacher never says about unforgivingness. Fear to him whom made u and will destroy. The one whom watches ,listens and knows all. He has mentioned everything that happened past, present, future in a holy book that was existing since thousands of years ago. Every law and rule of life. Why were we here? What reason? It's all stated in it. Sorry if the Muslims u saw out there made u feel scared (aka bombing here and there) because we even disagree with the fact they bombed here and there. Logically, we rn't supposed to be that way
Not Iran. Over there they treat trans people better than gay people. It is one of the few countries in the world where trans people have more rights than gay people. I hope one day people just learn to live and let live :(

Breaks my heart. Trans are oppressed in Malaysia that they're not easily hired like non-trans, some without money or education can't even allowed to take up blue collar jobs. The only way to survive is what they can offer. If the society is accepting, prostitution could have been avoided. Serious talk
Althought I have seen many transgender woman in KL can get proper job in cosmetic and fashion shop, but dont know they have harass by the police before or not.
I lived in Malaysia for 4 years and I'm quite familiar with the law and the hypocrisy of the law enforcers, mostly they r married and have mistress or two, if you're caught in close proximity you could close down the case by little kick back payment as little as RM100 that's almost $30 . Women to men ratio there is 5/1 if you're married you could easily still go between mistresses and majority do that.
As usual. Men get away with all sorts of things because if you are married and and you commit adultery it’s against Muslim sharia law but nothing happens
I am so happy light is finally being shedded on this topic, but this documentary is putting her at great risk. He showed where she works, the area in which she lived, all of that. I hope nothing bad happens
I'm honestly disappointed in many of the comments. It's 2018 if you care that much about how someone is living their life then clearly you don't have one. The lack of competence is overwhelming.
I live inside your house that just shows how short sighted you are. Being transgender and feeling like you belong in the wrong body is encoded into your dna, so if you were to be trans you would definitely think more openly.
Vincent Elian Fay Rose so ur saying that if a policeman in the states were to arrest a trans person just because they were transgender and he believed they were bad or evil you would say it’s fine because he’s just living his life? I️ know the culture and stuff is different but I️ mean how far can you go when it’s not abt religion but about the ppl the religion is harming, and not helping?
Many people dont understand with this video , especially non Malaysian . As Malaysian .. syariah law just for muslim Malaysian not for all of Malaysian. That's why if you're non muslim and you make a sex things you would not be arrested by the religion police bcs they work based on muslim law.
As a malaysia myself, we don't really mind them at all. We don't care what a person wants to be whether they want to go back and forth with being the gender that they are born with or not. But what we hated the most is prostitution and adultery, there's a lot of trans people that are working around us that are untouched and not being bothered by the religious police. Some of trans women are a famous stylist, makeup artist rich business person and many more and they are not being bothered by these religious police. Only those who are doing prostitution will be bothered by them. However if you're a trans women but working as a nurse, you will live a normal life where no one will give a damn about you and your choices.
@@ebrugursoykavlakoglu4323This doesn’t only happen here in Malaysia. There is immense concern even in a place that accepts lgbt community such as usa where more and more americans are fighting on the lies brought by this community. In Islam, transgender is forbidden. A man and a woman sleeping in a hotel without a marriage certificate is forbidden. For muslims, we already learn the laws since childhood. So, if we break the rules, then it’s ourself that needs to receive the judgement. Same as when you against your country rules, you need to receive your punishment. Islam is a peace religion. You don’t have to look at the muslim people, but you have to look for the Islam itself. Same with other religions. I’m really sure that other religions too have its own rules and teaching good things. But people are the one who didn’t want to really follow the rules. In Malaysia, we have plenty of transgender Muslim celebrities that the authorities do not take action upon. I'm not saying they should arrest them but if you have money and some form of status or power, these religious police will not bother you for whatever gender or sexuality you identify as.
Right at the end there. I believe he realized that he wanted to turn back to religion because he wanted to do the right thing. Since all he had known was Islam, that was all he turned to. If somebody wants to turn back to God, please let them do so. Everyone always says "Do what you want to do." And I choose to follow my religion, because it brings me peace of mind.
LDS German shepherd boy - I don't believe it was the 'right thing'. If his family hadn't disowned him and he hadn't felt so lonely and ashamed by his family and society, (who follow Islam which he was born into) and instead accepted, and loved unconditionally like he should have been, he would not have returned to being a man. He said he was happy but there is utter sadness in his story. Religion is a construct anyway, so he literally turned away from what he is because of religion and his stupid sad family

im an ex muslim who is part of the lgbtq+ community. but there is no actual legal way for me to change my religion. what do you have to say about that. just mind your own business and dont tell people how to live because of your own beliefs.
But can you officialy change the religion to others in malaysia? No, I'm an ex muslim in malaysia and let me tell you it's hard to change religion here.Especially in Kelantan and Teregganu,Ex-muslim will receive death penalty for converting. Most of the ex-muslim are just living their own lives or moving out from malaysia and not bother trying to officially convert.
As a bi i felt very sorry to her and all trans in general that lives in malaysia i barely can cope with the amount of racism, discrimination and violence here. She’s brave for doing this. Its sad that we can’t do anything about it. I’m sorry for what you’ve been through
It's really sad to watch this, I'm getting really emotional now to see them having no choice of getting a fair treatment in the employment world and most of them ended up selling their modesty to survive. I can only imagine how vulnerable they can be out there. And I know that because of the society in Malaysia here, a lot of them are into drugs. Knowing this is happening in my own country made me even depressed. People cares so little about what's in their heart but the sexual orientation of them.
Fair treatment? You not know how people live in malaysia so don’t judge!! No one will support lgbtq community!! Who want to bring ideology that can decrease the human population!!

Translation: I'm pretty lazy to type in English because I'll be cancelled by people. Back to the topic, we are muslims, so we should live in Islamic ways. Things that are forbidden in Islam always have reasons and explainations. I hope we muslims will always stay on the right path.
malaysian chinese here (meaning im not a muslim), its 2021 and recently, a transgender woman was forced to move to australia because malaysia was giving her hell and was going to arrest her. she's now happily in australia with her new house, but this is possible because she's rich, she's a social media influencer. many poor minorities are still suffering under our system. laws like these target the poor and affect them the most, i love this country but the government, damn.
in islam ,changing gender is prohibited, muslim community try to help her but she misunderstand that, she was not in hell, she made her own hell, come on,dont you understand the term of 'respecting other religion'?
The People of the West have no right to tell us Muslims what to do in our countries. As the saying goes "When in Rome, do as the Romans do.". When we are in your countries we obey and respect your law. But WTF can't you accept our own. Because in Muslim Countries we have Sharia Law we don't need your Modern Law. I was just surprised when the reporter said: "What is wrong being with your girlfriend at a hotel.". Maybe it is normal for you. But It is haram for us and we despise it. Also, the child born from this evil deed also has a bad life because of what his birth father and mother did. We are thankful to Malaysia that it has not been corrupted by western culture.

Thats where you are wrong, free sex has been the public enemy of malaysia since independence, we've been fighting it because most cases of babies thrown into trash cans come from these budget hotels, secondly it seen as bad is malay culture, you have so many different rights for other things. Free sex, goes against everything malaysia stands for.
This application of Sharia law is erroneous. Modern interpretations of Sharia law oddly over-politicize Islamic doctrine, fallaciously. To qualify something as a crime in Islam, it either come under "murder" or "corruption in the land". The law does not intervene in matters that occur in the private realm; only public disorder offences that can have an effect at a societal level, hence the requirement of "4 witness accounts" as a burden of proof in Islamic law. Indonesia's Ace province has the same fallacy where gay sex is penalized because one broke into the home. Outside of this, it remain a moral concern only - not a legal one. Moral issues such as boundaries between men and women should natural be guided by Islamic values of modesty and chastity, and enjoined by the people. It has nothing to do with the law; too many morals are legally imposed top-down, without basis. It is also permissible for a transgender person to express their innate mannerisms - these are known in Islamic history as "mukhannathun" (effeminate); they can't adopt femininity, but act as they're disposed to.
Firstly, i am a student of Islamic jurisprudence (fiq). Secondly, i do have a right to say what is and isn't correct - because i'm not talking about the complex aspect of inferring laws from the text or anything; i'm referring to something called "tazir" - which is formulating a law (based on morality) that is not instituted by the either the Quran or Hadith. It is not present in either; but is a manifestation of our will to stop immorality. I'm saying this is fallacious, because morals cannot be fixed by law - especially these particular issues. I'm not criticizing Ulema at large, but specific legal enforcement at certain places. I don't have to be an expert to make this remark; it is a straight forwardly fallacy. Thirdly, because of this issue - we ALREADY look "bad" you fool. I'm pointing out this problem, to make clear, that this is not what Islam teaches, so others don't assume it.
Mr Cat The problem you have - is that you're trying to distance me from doing something - that you fundamentally have a misunderstanding about. You have accused me of the precise clear opposite of what i'm doing - all on this false assumption as your basis. And now you're using the one word "fool" to further stop this imaginary act of giving Islam a "negative" image that you seem to somehow perceive. This all incredibly annoying, false and time consuming. I'm going to explain things further - and hope that you don't stand in my way, without making any points again. The criticism i made has no relation to expertise. I am criticizing the baseless source of a law, used here in Sharia. It's about the non-existence of something - to point this out, does not require knowledge. I'm arguing for the absence of a source of law - not the inferential process, application or interpretation of a law. It's not about that. How can giving a clarification of what is right and wrong - give a "negative" image. What the heck about what i have said even adds to anything? Maybe the Indonesia example i gave - possibly hinting at a widespread problem? That's only 1 example. The video shows Muslims getting prosecuted in their own private hotel room; which is a level of intrusion that Islamic law does not prescribe. I as a Muslim have clarified that this does not come from Islamic doctrine. You have come along to tell me to stop clarifying - because that makes it worse - and that i need to be a scholar (even though i don't need to) or shut up? You're desperately stopping a clarification? Doesn't even make sense. What "does not help" is one of our own Muslims telling the other Muslim to stop clarifying the misconceptions that everyone else is seeing. I've never seen this in my life. You have a good intention, but i think it's misplaced. I recommend properly understanding things that you are trying to oppose first - which In this case, is causing a massive disadvantage.
@Mr Cat but the islam also says, it's our choice if we believe or not. So it's against the islam to force someone to be Muslim. Allah know our hearts and if we are not religious in our hearts like these people, then we as humans can't change them. Allah is the only judge
Racial and gender discrimination is what the Malaysian authorities are good in. Even worse if you are a gay. even musicians who are pro LGBTQ are ban from performing in Malaysia.
Do a cultural exchange with Thailand: Thailand gets all the Malay ladyboys and Malaysia gets all of the surplus Thai bar girls who are actually biological women.
17:55 Damn, I feel kinda bad, this just screams all sorts of wrong, the fact they turned their back not out of realisation but out of fear makes me sad
This is ridiculous. The police should concern themselves with solving real crimes of theft, antisocial behavior, kidnapping, and heavy bodily harm. They should keep their noses out of bed issues. Similar unfair laws that transgender people can not change their documents to reflect their true personality have been introduced in Russia as well. That club where Serafina performs is an escape environment, it is not reality, sadly, where she could just be herself and be fully accepted and feel safe. When the show is over, she returns to a world that is hostile and does not accept her or support her. I want to give her a hug, and say "You are one brave Girl". You are brave to celebrate yourself and be who you are. I am not transgender myself, I am just a human being. I show acceptance to another human being. Nobody chooses to work as a sex worker. This is the social disparity and inequality.
I am Malaysian and I tell you, this moral police only targets budget hotels. They don't dare to touch the 5 stars and above hotels. Of course, laws and punishment only apply to the poor.
Lolo Lulu its a sad reality, this happens everywhere. Because for the law, the criminals are always the middle-class or the poors. Its like the rich ones never commit any crime.

Breaks my heart. Trans are oppressed in Malaysia that they're not easily hired like non-trans, some without money or education can't even allowed to take up blue collar jobs. The only way to survive is what they can offer. If the society is accepting, prostitution could have been avoided. Serious talk

I find it strange bc it seems like Malaysian ppl dont rly care but they are made to care...
The title of this video is so misleading
trans:
goes to a scene where the police capture a "couple" having sex before marriage ._.
MinaKushi they should have just made them get married, thats whats the bible does
christina non muslim? Why so concern?
Where does the bible make people get married
@christina thats retarded so anyone can go get laid with a prostitute than he'll get forced to marry her
I am so happy light is finally being shedded on this topic, but this documentary is putting her at great risk. He showed where she works, the area in which she lived, all of that. I hope nothing bad happens
I'm honestly disappointed in many of the comments. It's 2018 if you care that much about how someone is living their life then clearly you don't have one. The lack of competence is overwhelming.
Then you should fuck off too. We malaysian doesnt accepted lgbt and that how we living our life.
I live inside your house that just shows how short sighted you are. Being transgender and feeling like you belong in the wrong body is encoded into your dna, so if you were to be trans you would definitely think more openly.

@Æthelstan well..same like Others religion.so what is the point?,if someone don't want to be muslim or Christian..they can left their religion..
@Æthelstan ermm kinda true

A lot of companies have the Q&A box for them to tick and if they see someone ticking the gender besides man or woman then they won’t consider you as a candidate at all. Why you may ask? This type of person is a liability and they do not want to handle someone who feels their feelings should be a priority. I am asking you how can you work with such person when everybody has to tiptoe around you all the time?

Just remember they are human like us who experience the same circle. If you kept babbling, judging you will be the same as the devil, islam or not, respect them. I'm pretty lazy to type in English because I'll be cancelled by people.

@@kaneriver7965 How about the asexual beings, a ver?! Are asexuals accepted in malaysian norms especially by malay social norms?!

I've been reading these comments and rather than talk about the problems and solutions, I see people dissing on other country's problems while trying to defend their own. How are we ever going to grow together and understand each other? Humanity you poor soul
I dont care about this american with their lgbt rights, but why does they need to shove it at other country? They the one that started it first.
mmm.. it's British television .
@@iliveinsideyourhouse1367 Actually it started where people weren't religious yet... Your just pure uneducated and a mad soul... Shoo shoo.. Go to Afghanistan or Uganda I'd u hate LGBT.. More peace with less people like you😂😂😂😂
their lives, their choice. if that’s who they are, then they can live like that. they’re not hurting anyone or anything.
This is not america
I agree so much. Malaysia is better than other Muslim countries in balancing religious and worldly affairs.
Prostitution is a crime if you didn know that.
Racial and gender discrimination is what the Malaysian authorities are good in. Even worse if you are a gay. even musicians who are pro LGBTQ are ban from performing in Malaysia.
Yes.. that's why the non native chinese are richer than the nativee malays..😂😂
Malaysian are good in English.
