Only started crocheting properly this year thank to RUclips and this is my 2nd cardigan. Loved making it and first time using Comfy Cotton Blend yarn, I went for Chai Latte colour. I did a small and is much bigger than expected with is great as I prefer oversized and comfy. I’m about UK size 12 and it’s perfect. Thanks for your easy to follow video. Loved the turned round sleeves, never tried that before but it may be my go to method for sleeves now.
Just saved both videos. My sister has asked me to make her a coat cardigan full length so your video is just what I needed. Been crocheting for 7 years so the foundation Row is what I always use when I have to create long blankets etc. thanks again!
Love the first option stitch, new to me but I found it to be a more solid foundation. Thank you for this tutorial. Your video instructions are very well done. I look forward to looking through other videos.
Finished it, thank you so much. I learned how to crochet via RUclips starting in April 2019 and decided to try this for my first sweater. It was so much fun. I can't believe I did it. Thank you for your excellent instructions. I am 5'3" 135 pounds and I made a medium. The sleeves were a bit too long for me but I rolled them up and it's super long, which is great! I changed the pockets so they are upright instead of sideways. I LOVE it. Thank you again!!

Thank you so much for this pattern. I am too thin plus older so I get cold easy. However, every time I try to make something that is not an afghan it ends up badly. Hello! Super Cute. I bought the Hexi Blanket kit on the Lion Brand website and it stated there were video tutorials for the blanket, however I am having difficulty locating them. Would you please share a link. I found the written tutorial but bought the kit for the video. Thank you!
On the written pattern. I'm very confused when it comes to the sleeves and it's counts. It doesn't make sense. I'm not sure if the numbers are typos or what. Now I'm stuck
Thank you for this video. I just finished completing my sweater and it turned out perfect. Having the video really added to the written pattern. I will be looking for other projects from your videos.
I'm actually having a hard time getting the pattern for 1 and 2 as there us so much to look thru that I can't not find them. Sorry I would love to make this.
The web site mentions the heighth as well as bust of the model. However, I was wondering is she modeling a small or medium size cardigan? It looks a bit baggy on her. I measure the same and I'm contemplating whether to make the small or medium for myself. Thank you so much!
I'm making this sweater using both the video and the printed pattern (I purchased the pattern). I'm confused as to how many rows of decreases to do. The video says to check the pattern to know how many decrease rows to do but there was a correction note at the top of the video saying that all sizes of the cardigan call for the same number of decrease rows. BUT it doesn't say how many rows that is. Can you clarify, please?
Excellent tutorial! I've never attempted a wearable (other than hats and scarves) but I feel confident enough in you instructions to attempt! Thank you!
Hi I am very confused. I just got to the part where you divide the arm holes. It says place markers for the first set 32 and 33 sts and then the second set is 51 and 52 sts now my questions is where do you put the first set ? From the right side or the left
Hello. I am not sure if i am doing the decreasing right. It would be nice if you showed multiple rows of the decreasing on both sides. i am making a large cardigan. so far i am on row 7 of decreasing on the pattern. I want to make sure it is correct before I proceed and would be a pain to fix later. i currently have 4 "decreasing knots" and if you look at them in the pattern it "forms" a slanted line. are they supposed to form a straight verticle line when you look at them? I have been moving my holder up as i go along but i didn't count the stitches. is that holder supposed to be at the 46 stitch for each row that requires the decrease as the pattern seems to suggest? I am on line 7 and i counted 43 stitches before that holder (on right side of holder) instead of 46. thanks for the help and sorry if this doesn't make much sense. new to crocheting :)
Well I was going to make this but I don't see in pattern or video how to attach the sleeves. Why not just crochet them directly to the cardigan, so much easier.
I would love to try making this sweater but Lion Brand says they don’t sell the Comfy Cotton Blend anymore. Do you have suggestions for alternatives that are vegan-friendly? (No wool, alpaca, etc). Thanks so much!
Can I get clarification on the First Front part please. I am making the Small size and for the first marker it is attached on the 22nd st. Instruction says hdc all the way up to the st before the marker which makes 21 hdc. However, the written pattern says 22-which means i do hdc right where the marker is. Do I make 21 or 22? Appreciate the help! Thank you for sharing this amazing beginner friendly pattern. I hope you can do more tutorial on cardigans and tunics especially with this kind of yarn. I just love the feel of this yarn!
Hi, I love and appreciate your tutorial videos! Still sorta new to crochet. Can this cardigan be made using other stitches? I love the Suzette stitch? I saw in one of your other videos. Thanks again.
Can you tell me how many packages of those lions brand yarn are in the sweater you made without me stopping the video and searching the websight, signing up etc. You could put all of that information 8n the drop down menu
You can click on the link to the free pattern above in the video description box. There, you will find the "supplies" list where it has more information about sizing and yarn amounts. Hope that helps!
Hi, can you help me ? I am new to crochet . This wool is expensive in the UK, can I use any other wool and do I need 2400 yards of wool ? Thank you for any help .
Maybe :) My suggestion would be to make a gauge swatch and see how it compares to the pattern gauge (listed in the free written pattern linked in the description box above.) You'll likely need to decrease your hook size to meet the gauge with a worsted weight yarn, and you might find that you don't care for the drape then as much. Your other option is to use the recommended hook size and just make a size smaller of the sweater since your yarn will be a bit thicker. :)
oooh, that's a fun idea! You can definitely add more length by just crocheting for longer before doing the 4" of decreasing before you divide for the armholes. I'd just keep crocheting until you have a length you like and stop about 4" before you'd get to a natural armhole opening. Hope that helps! :)
Great sweater. It says 144? for the foundation? This is fantastically big. That’s for the large but it could wrap around me twice. The measurement says it 45 inches around but this number of changes is way longer. Advice please
Hi I have bought many of ur patterns but on most of these cardigans like this one and the easy crochet cardigan and the long duster cardigan they all suggest in grams for amount of yarn needed about and I need yardage for them for bust size 38 but can’t figure it out. 😢 I wanted to try one of this weekend when I’m at a hotel visiting family. Can u please help me? 😊
Hi Jess, I'm loving this pattern but I am a little confused. I am now up to the armhole section and not understanding where to put the place markers. I purchased the kit but for me it is not clear. Please help. Thank You.
Diane Bureau Hi!! Does your pattern in your kit have all those areas grayed out? I mentioned it in my comment. It’s so confusing. I don’t know if she’s aware of that. If you click on the link she provides in the description, it will take you to her blog where she has the pattern written out. It’s more clear there. That’s what I had to do. I’m finished with the crocheting part and now I’m getting ready to sew mine together!! It’s looking great! Good luck with yours, I’m sure you’ll do fine!! 😊
Crafty Cat Lady hi, thank you for your reply. I will check cause the pattern is with the kit. I will go to her website. It’s those dang stitch marker positions. It looks like it says to put them right next to each other. Also, if you don’t mind another question. When you lay out the piece when counting for placement, is counting from right (which is actually left when wearing and vice versa). Is that how she wants us to count as just from looking at the piece as it is placed on the table? I hope that’s not confusing. Thank you. Oh I so want to finish this. Love the yarn and the style 😉
Diane Bureau Hi, Sorry for the late reply, so, if I understand you correctly, your asking about the back/front and armhole placement? So, for the first one, you count from one end to the number listed; for example for a large you would count to the 24/25 stitch and place your marker, then go do down to stitches 41/42 (for size large) and place the next. And what I did- was flip the whole piece over and do the same thing from the opposite side. (It was less confusing that way.) then I folded mine in half and the markers were perfectly even with each other. I did that before I started that section. It’s a beautiful cardigan, it just came out long on me. (But I’m only 4’9 so maybe that’s why???) I have an instagram account and I’m going to be posting my projects soon. If you’d like to take a look, my handle is @craftycrochetdiva I hope that helps you.
@@hislambcreations Thank you, I just guessed on what had to be done cause that 24/25 and 41/42 stitches just confuse the heck out of me. Just for future makings, you count 24 and put stitch marker in 25th and same with 41 and put stitch marker in 42? I wanted to keep it moving. I do love the pattern and Jess has a great teaching voice but patterns seem to always be a little confusing. This is my second sweater I've made and issues on that one too but I got it done the best I could. Thank you I will definitely look you up on Instagram. "Little Lady"
Diane Bureau Yes! That’s exactly what I did. I think by putting the markers in, then folding it in half helped me. It came out even, I also matched up my stitches and I had the same amount on each end, and the same length of the open spaces on each side. So I figured I had to be doing it right. I’m not a seasoned crocheter by no means, by I love learning! Right now, I’m making baby boy items, my niece just had twins and another niece is pregnant with her 3rd boy. 😳😊
Hi I'm new at this. Question, please don't laugh, but making a medium and the pattern says rows to 44. Does that mean after row 44 you start decreasing? Or is it after you make 144 rows
Please tell me how to make the sleeves shorter. I am making a 3x and I’m very concerned that the sleeves will be too big. If I make 1 or 2x sleeve will they fit onto the sweater body?
You'll want to make the sleeves for the 3x because otherwise they won't fit into the armhole appropriately. The size 3X sleeves should be about 21" around where they join at the shoulder and 24.75" long. If you'd like to make yours a bit shorter though, you can eliminate rounds 1-4 and just begin with round 5 where the increases begin. I hope that helps!
First, Thank you so much for this wonderful cardigan pattern! I only hope I can actually make it and have it come out as lovely as the pictures. lol I'm primarily a knitter and my crochet skills are not as strong. Now to my question which may seem very silly, but... I've been looking and looking, but still haven't found any references to measurements for the Up North Cardigan. I started making a 1X since my bust size is 41 1/2" and it calls for making a foundation chain of 109, but after working approximately 10 rows it seems WAY too big (wide) for my body. I'm only 5'1" and when I buy a hoodie I usually go for a large or sometimes even an XL to have it just a bit bigger/roomy and more cozy, but this seems well beyond that. The Habitat Cardigan has a really great measurement section that has exact specifications of what the rectangle (length and width) should measure for each size. Is there something like that for the Up North Cardigan that I'm missing? I just want to make sure I'm on the right track before I've worked up the whole piece only to find I'm way way off from where I was supposed to be. Far too much time wasted and a whole lot of frogging. lol
The stich count for the back part after decrease is either wrong or I did not count right. I could not come to the same as the pattern stated. Will you please help me on this.
Ok, so I'm pretty new to crochet which also means I am new to pattern reading. I really rely on the tutorial, I have watched this tutorial have gotten to the end watched the 2nd video but I don't have the sleeve tutorial in video 1. Am I crazy did it not get filmed?...so confused right now.
Hi Teresa - there was an issue when uploading the original video tutorial for the sweater. Here is the link you will want to use : ruclips.net/video/bLoSQifTCDY/видео.html . Hope that helps!
I just started this a few days ago. The last thing I finished crocheting was a scarf that took 7 years. Hopefully I get this done a little quicker. 😂😂😂
Hi, I’m a beginner crocheter and attempting to make this gorgeous cardigan but don’t understand where and when to make the decreases, I’m in my row 17 without any decrease, just the regular hdc...can anyone bring some light in this matter please, i have read the pattern many times and don’t wanna quit just yet. :(
I'm having problems finding the pattern - when I click on "free pattern" it keeps pooping to the cocoon even though the title of this pattern is highlighted...hope someone can help even though this video is a few years old...I'm excited to get started as it'll be great to have this cardi by fall.
The link to the free written pattern is in the description box. Hit the show more button and it will be at the top. You may have to scroll down to get to the pattern, but it is there.
Hi, im in the process of making this cardigan. Im confused about the second front. Am i starting from the top of the first front and crochet the rows needed? Im sorry if i sound like a dunce. And i hope im making sense. Im really want to finish this, i love so far how its working up.
@@christinereilly3699 Yes! The photo on the blog reflects how the two fronts are worked. So the second front begins on the opposite side as the first front. (It's so hard to explain in writing, but it really is as simple as that photo shows. :) Does that make sense to you?
@@makedocrew1717 yes it does, thank you for the reply. Already done the body, the sleeves, ribbing and pockets and will work on the collar; very excited how its working up, cant wait to put it together! =)
For some reason, I can not get the decrease rows to work. I counted over the required amount, did the decrease, marked it, next row hdc straight across, next row of decrease leaves me with an extra unworked stitch. This will be my 3rd time of frogging the decrease rows. HELP PLEASE!!!!
@@carolyncozine6375 I was wondering the same thing. I haven't frogged yet, I figured I would just do what the pattern said. But I may wait before I continue to see if there is any response to this issue.
@@carolyncozine6375 Hey Carolyn, not sure where you are at with the issue of stitch markers, but I read further down in the comments and she said to follow the written pattern. Hope that helps you.
@@carolyncozine6375 You're welcome. I am actually stuck now at the next section for the armholes. I have reread several times but to me it's unclear on where or how to count for the stitch markers. In the video it shows several stitches between each 2 groups of stitch markers but the instructions show stitches (25, 26 - just an example) right together. So, I can't figure that out. I did send an comment so I hope I will get a reply unless you or someone else here in comments can help. I am making the size large. My please in helping, where I can...I love crocheting and am probably an early intermediate skill level. But reading patterns is a little more difficult than watching a video. Annoo Crochet has the best video and very easy to follow her verbal directions. I just made and finished her Caribbean Queen Hoodie. It was easy and I happened to have the exact yarn she used. Her video is for a size S/M and I didn't realize that until later, but it didn't matter cause I didn't have enough yarn for the large. So I sent it to my daughter-in-law. But just an FYI if you want instant gratification on a garment. Have a great day!
Diane Bureau Hi Ladies! I had a lot of the same issues with this one, but I just kept on crocheting and it turned out nice. I’m getting ready to sew mine together. One thing I was freaking out about last night, was, I was at the last pieces of the pattern (the pockets) and I have very little yarn left! I bought the kit for the size Medium. I was worried I’d have to buy another cake of yarn. I have 2 small balls of yarn left. Hopefully it will be enough for the sewing. I don’t think I’m a “loose” crocheter, my gauge was right with what the pattern suggested. And I consider myself an intermediate beginner. Lol! Oh and I also love Annoo Crochet! I recently made the Bernadette Cardigan with that Latte Cakes yarn! It was so easy!!
Carolyn Cozine Thanks! I ended up with just enough yarn!! However, the cardigan is too big. I went by the measurements and thought for sure I’d need a medium. I would have been just fine making a small. And the sleeves are way too long. I’m having to roll them up 3 times. *sigh*
Very excited to make my first cardigan with this pattern ☺️.

Hi I am very confused. I just got to the part where you divide the arm holes. It says place markers for the first set 32 and 33 sts and then the second set is 51 and 52 sts now my questions is where do you put the first set ? From the right side or the left
I've given up with mine and unpicked it.
Is is possible to make this cardigan using a 4 weight yarn?
I can't fine the size i am looking for
Do you have measurements for 4 to 5x ?
Will have to save this so i can watch as i make. I love it. Thank you! Your video is very easy to follow.
I would love to try making this sweater but Lion Brand says they don’t sell the Comfy Cotton Blend anymore. Do you have suggestions for alternatives that are vegan-friendly? (No wool, alpaca, etc). Thanks so much!
Quiero hacerlo, podrías poner subtítulos en español. Gracias!
I was so confused about that part as well! 😅
Hi, I love and appreciate your tutorial videos! Still sorta new to crochet. Can this cardigan be made using other stitches? I love the Suzette stitch? I saw in one of your other videos. Thanks again.
I'm confused. The decrease piece. Is that done before you do the panels? How many rows in total before you do the panles?
Is no. 3 a yarn that is just a bit lighter then worsted weight
How do you know which side is the right side(rs)?
How will the women's sizes translate over to mens?
What size is this. How can I make a 3x
Can you tell me how many packages of those lions brand yarn are in the sweater you made without me stopping the video and searching the websight, signing up etc.
You could put all of that information 8n the drop down menu
She uses like 8 cakes
You can click on the link to the free pattern above in the video description box. There, you will find the "supplies" list where it has more information about sizing and yarn amounts. Hope that helps!
Hi, can you help me ? I am new to crochet . This wool is expensive in the UK, can I use any other wool and do I need 2400 yards of wool ? Thank you for any help .
How can I get the free pattern please
Can I use worsted weight?
Maybe :) My suggestion would be to make a gauge swatch and see how it compares to the pattern gauge (listed in the free written pattern linked in the description box above.) You'll likely need to decrease your hook size to meet the gauge with a worsted weight yarn, and you might find that you don't care for the drape then as much. Your other option is to use the recommended hook size and just make a size smaller of the sweater since your yarn will be a bit thicker. :)
I am using worsted. I went down to a 5mm hook for gauge. Hope that helps!
Is there a way to extend this to make a robe?
oooh, that's a fun idea!
Hi
I have bought many of ur patterns but on most of these cardigans like this one and the easy crochet cardigan and the long duster cardigan they all suggest in grams for amount of yarn needed about and I need yardage for them for bust size 38 but can’t figure it out. 😢 I wanted to try one of this weekend when I’m at a hotel visiting family. Can u please help me?
😊
Hi, what color of yarn was used in this tutorial?
Thank you
I would love to crochet this, it will be my first cardigan. But I can't download the pattern. I have followed the links. Can you help. Xxxx
Far too much time wasted and a whole lot of frogging. lol
Do you place the arm hole stitch markers with wrong or right side facing?
The yarn is discontinued. Is there another yarn you can recommend?
Hola, me encantan sus trabajos, pero no entiendo su idioma. Podría poner los subtítulos en Español? Ya estoy suscrita! 👏👏. Muchas gracias y un saludo.

How much yarn for this project? For around a large?
The stich count for the back part after decrease is either wrong or I did not count right. I could not come to the same as the pattern stated. Will you please help me on this.
Would this pattern work in child size?
Could I substitute with another yarn?
Ok, so I'm pretty new to crochet which also means I am new to pattern reading. I really rely on the tutorial, I have watched this tutorial have gotten to the end watched the 2nd video but I don't have the sleeve tutorial in video 1. Am I crazy did it not get filmed?...so confused right now.
Hi Teresa - there was an issue when uploading the original video tutorial for the sweater. Here is the link you will want to use : ruclips.net/video/bLoSQifTCDY/видео.html . Hope that helps!
Link for part 2 plz
Couldn't I make the sleeves flat then sew them?
Q bonito trabajo no entiendo el idioma pero con ver el vídeo aprendo
I just started this a few days ago. The last thing I finished crocheting was a scarf that took 7 years. Hopefully I get this done a little quicker. 😂😂😂
I'm using a bulky 5. Is that going to be a problem?
Hello...I’m trying to decide what size to make. Does anyone know if this yarn will shrink when washed since it has cotton in it?
Hey Jeryl, I'd suggest washing it in cool water with a gentle cycle and laying it flat to dry. That said, I don't think it should shrink much. :)
Thank you 😊
हेलाे दाेस्ति 👌👍️
My HDC foundation is curving. Is this normal?
Thank you so much! 🙂
You're welcome, Joy! :)
Molto bello. Traduzione italiano grazie
I'm having problems finding the pattern - when I click on "free pattern" it keeps pooping to the cocoon even though the title of this pattern is highlighted...hope someone can help even though this video is a few years old...I'm excited to get started as it'll be great to have this cardi by fall.
Thank you 😄
Can I get the written pattern for free or is there a charge? I can't find a free download, Thank you.
The link to the free written pattern is in the description box. Hit the show more button and it will be at the top. You may have to scroll down to get to the pattern, but it is there.
I went to the link what’s the name of this yarn?
Helloooooooo
Hi, im in the process of making this cardigan. Im confused about the second front. Am i starting from the top of the first front and crochet the rows needed? Im sorry if i sound like a dunce. And i hope im making sense. Im really want to finish this, i love so far how its working up.
I think i understand, the whole piece, the body, back and front piece(s) is the way its shown on the picture on your website?
@@christinereilly3699 Yes! The photo on the blog reflects how the two fronts are worked. So the second front begins on the opposite side as the first front. (It's so hard to explain in writing, but it really is as simple as that photo shows. :) Does that make sense to you?
@@makedocrew1717 yes it does, thank you for the reply. Already done the body, the sleeves, ribbing and pockets and will work on the collar; very excited how its working up, cant wait to put it together! =)
Lindo, bom se desse as medidas em cm
How many balls dose it take for a small and is there a pattern
Hi Dorothy - the free pattern is linked in the video description box above. Within the pattern, you will find more info about sizing. Hope that helps!
Iwill start learning crochet from zero I hope onedat be like u
Is this pattern still free? I can't seem to find it. The link brings me to a paid version.
Nvm. Found it ..thanks.
*sigh*
the pattern I found was not free is there one some place else. I went by your description for free and there is a charge
That’s weird. I’m making mine right now and I have the whole webpage up from her link with the pattern for free.
