I made this pattern as my very first crochet garment and it turned out nicely. I love the stitch pattern. I made an XL according to the written pattern, with just 2 alterations: 1) I used 80 chaines for the main panels and 2) after assembly I needed to crochet 6 more rows on the sleeves as I wanted them full lengths. The cardigang fits nicely. I needed 12 balls of yarn (96% cotton, 4 % polyester / 50 g running 160 m) and a 5 mm hook. Thank you for this amazing design and the pattern. The explanations were very clear. The most difficult part for me was to keep the cats from going after the yarn xD.
This designer and artist is amazing. Talk about making a garment that is doable for an ambitious beginner !!! Love it and am so grateful to have access to all this channel offers. 👏🙂👏
Ambitious beginner here ! I love this pattern. Carie 💕 Your video was a blessing and you made it so easy and understandable for crochet aspirers like us. Most videos are too much confusing and makes us feel so dumb. You lifted us up with your humble effort. Thanks so much.
I loved making this one. It’s pretty easy to customise too. If you want it less oversized simply do less rows on the last section of each panel. Have a great Monday ❤️
Thank you so much, Carrie! Wonderful tutorial! What a gorgeous cardigan you've designed. Sometimes the most simplest stitches make the most beautiful garments. Thank you!
EXCELLENT tutorial!! Easy breezy 1-2-3! Moving forward THIS is my go to pattern for cardigans. I’m making a duster by extending the chain length of the panels. Oh, and I’ll probably extend the sleeves as well depending on the final length.
Wow! Reckon even I may be able to make this cardigan. The two row, pattern is effective yet easy, and will allow me, a relative beginner to achieve success. Thank you, from Australia.

Love this cardigan so beautiful and easy… For the body stitches I just chained the amount then DC across chain and sleeve then did foundation DC for the other side of the body, then no need to rejoin yarn..easy peasy 😊
Wow, this is absolutely gorgeous! I've used a 3 weight yarn for baby blankets but a 2 weight yarn scares me a bit. I have this in mind for later and if I see some 2 weight yarn I will give a whirl!! Thank you for such an awesome tutorial and for giving such great instructions!
Hello 😊. I am currently working on my second panel. I am crocheting this in the 2x/3x. It’s taken me forever , but I’m not giving up. This will officially be my very first cardigan I’ve ever made. Thank you for sharing this tutorial.
This sweater is gorgeous and seems easy. Loved that you don't use that annoying music and your voice so calm and soothing makes the video so enjoyable. Thanks and kudos for such an matter of factly tutorial. Cheers!!!
I can’t wait to try this again, this time with Lion Brand 24/7 DK cotton yarn as it’s thinner, and I might slip stitch to seam instead of whip stitch. Thank you ❤️
Hi Carrie what a beautiful cardigan! thanks so much for the generous teachings . I love it. I’m an absolute beginner and I hope to make this with you. ❤
I love the tutorial, really excited to dive into this project. I had a question about one part of the construction: at around 9:00 you cut the yarn after the second set of 72 chains on the side but then at the end of that chain we start double crocheting into the 72 chains, sleeve, and other set of 72 chains. Is there any reason you wouldn't just turn after the second set of double crochets?
Hey Carrie; I’m Patty Brush This will be my first cardigan to try and crochet. I need to make a size XL or 1X I really want to surprise my daughter. The one you have crochet is absolutely beautiful.
Just do as many chains it takes to go around your wrist allowing if you want loose cuff or a fitting cuff, dont forget it will need it big enough to go around the top of the arm for the armhole if its to tight you can increase stitch count from about elbow every few rows to allow for top arm fitting, be sure to jot down row numbers that you increased on so you can match the other sleeve the same, crochet the pattern til it reaches the top of arm then chain as many stitches you want from the shoulder to hem front then back continue pattern to centre of the neck,, now make the other side the same and sew the 2 backs together and sc a boarder around the whole garment,,, wallah its finished ,,, hopefully you can follow my instructions God bless 🧡🕊️
I’m thinking I’d need an XS/SM. It seems like the sleeves would be easy to adjust - they increase by 4 stitches. But the rest, is a little tricky. I guess I will just try as I go.
Hello thank you so much for sharing this tutorial i just have a question , may seem stupid but I'm new to this crocheting. How would you make it floor length??
Hi. I am new in crochet. I started to make that beautiful cardigan. I am using acrylic yarn. Does it make a difference in the size? I have done my 40 rows for the sleeves. But it l.ooks short on me, like a 3/4 sleeve. Shall I add rows? Thank you for your help... and I love what you do :)
Hi thanks for this lovely cardigan pattern, I checked the blog to find the measurements, but unfortunately I could not understand the numbers to the sizes , because it would not tell how many stitches should I have for 2xl size . Thank you 🌷
How many hours would you say this cardigan takes to complete? And would you recommend a particular seaming stitch? Thank you so much for another beautiful pattern, I adore suzette stitch and I look forward to using it in this one!
Ooh! I'm not familiar with the Suzette stitch. I will have to look that one up! I might be making this sweater for my mom. I myself have also been crocheting for a number of years, and I would like to try and answer your one question, if you don't mind. 🤗💕🐛 Joining or seeming sometimes is a matter of preference, so really, any method that creates a strong hold will essentially work for a project like this. I find a mattress stitch is good for creating flat and invisible seams, and doesn't add bulk. If you're making this project in a solid color, then something like a whip stitch would also work here. It's a little easier to do, still works great for joining panels, and blends right in using all one color and material. I would avoid it, however, if you're making each side of the sweater a different color, for example, as it's not an invisible joining method. You could probably also just slip stitch the panels together, and hide the seam on the inside. Although, this will create a ridge on the inside of your work. There's also a possibility you might notice the seam slightly on the outside. But again, if the sweater is all one color and material, and you join the two panels in the line with the two row repeat, it will be mostly invisible. It probably wouldn't be an issue with a lightweight yarn like the project calls for. The one upside is that it's the quickest of the three that I have mentioned, so I might go for this if you were short one time, like if you are making this as a gift for someone. Obviously, there's a number of ways of joining, and tutorials. I have found which one you use really just depends on the project that you're making, and what your own personal preference is. I'm really curious to the suzzette stitch. It sounds lovely! 😆❤️

How did it turn out with the medium weight? I was thinking about I Love This Cotton. What size hook did you end up using?
I have the same questions. I'm thinking of using bigger yarn so the holes aren't so noticeable but I'm not sure how it will turn out.
