The bolts to remove the rotor on my 2010 Camty were M8 1.25 (metric) and about 2 inches long. The bolts that hold the pad bracket on took a 14 mm wrench.
Been doing brakes for 3 decades. Never knew what the grease was for and never asked anybody. Plus, all of the videos I've watched never mention the grease except one. And that 1 video the guy was telling everyone to leave the grease alone. So I literally just finished doing a brake/rotor job on my wife's car and decided to use the grease for the first time. Thanks for explaining the use.
you don't want to put grease on your new hardware where the pads slide! If you do, that grease attracts all the brake dust coming from the pads as they wear which gums them up and they will stick and have the problem you described this vehicle had, where one side, or the other may wear prematurely because they are not sliding (releasing) as they are supposed to.
Every thing you ever see or read about break pads tells you never to touch them (or the rotors) with grease. That caliper was so filthy and the liberal use of brake grease was so heavy that I would have replace my rubber gloves with clean ones before touching the new pads and mounting everything back.
I have 2 questions, first at 11:40 what grit sandpaper should you use to sand those? And I was having trouble finding grease like you use, what kind is that? The guy @the hardware store told me that the STP All-Purpose grease that I found at AutoZone would drip or run after getting hot, which makes sense, I think it had a melting point of around 300° or so and they had another kind that's labelled high temp grease and melts around 500°, would that be usable? it's been hard to find something like whatever you have, where can I find it? By the way I appreciate your videos they're very helpful, and I like your sense of humor too lol
Do you have a video of how to bleed the brake lines, I would like to learn from you because you are really good explaining, although english is not my first language I understand really good, thank you for sharing your knowledge
Great video. But there’s an important step missing: Sometimes the Parking Brake adjuster needs to be loosened to allow the Rotor to come off. Watch at many of these videos as you can. There isn’t one ‘all encompassing’ How To video.
Your right I have a lot of customers that actually listen when I tell them that they need to fix the noises in the car. This is one of them I did the brakes and they came back for the noise a few weeks later. You are very observant. Thanks for watching.
I don't understand why the bolt holes to remove the rotor is not a universal process. I looked at over 10 youtube videos on how to remove a stuck rotor before coming across 1 showing the purpose of the holes. Everyone says to bang with a hammer. Why? Shouldn't the hammer method be the last method after the bolts don't work? Even "professionals" act like they don't know about the holes.
The gloves are very dirty and now all the pads and rotors are contaminated, You need to clean the disc inside and out to remove any factory preservative and then not get any oil. dirt or grease on any of them.

Great job Jim! Thanks for taking the time to explain everything in detail. :)
Very helpful video, thank you
Don't forget to line the rubber plug in the rotor with the big hole in the hub so you can adjust parking brake if needed.
Thanks for your input and for watching.

A forget about it this guy's the best😊
What size bolt do you put to pop off the rotor like that.
Great video thanks for sharing it. I hope you have a Blessed Weekend. Stay well & safe.
Thank you! You too!
...thanks Jim for another great "how-to" video.....do you advise any kind of "break-in" procedure for new pads?
Yes usually just for a few miles. Thanks for watching.
Appreciate the video. You would make a great shop teacher 👍🏼
Great video Jim,
1 question please. Don't you need to adjust parking brake ??
Please reply 🙏. I'm about to do my 07 camry,s rear brakes soon
nit when doing just the brakes
Jim, thanks for an excellent video & commentary
Hey 💥 You didnt clean the grease smudges off those new brake pads, you should change your gloves, when touching the "new" pads !!
Thanks, very clear video and all details 👍
Glad you liked it

Good brake job video Jim
I do so many brake jobs I can do them with my eyes closed.
@@jimthecarguy I totaly understand that
Thanks for the video. Good information
Extremely detailed video. Thank you.
Great video well explained… thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for your efforts
Great video, thanks
You have worked on this Camry before. Rear sway bar bushings.

Do you use Original Toyota Pads? I have a 2017, were those ceramic?
Thanks so much helped a lot
Nice thanks 🙏
Thank you
caliper bracket bolt stuck. any suggestions?
Thanks. Why didn't you use Disc Brake Caliper Support Spring?
Most of the time I do but this one just sits on the top of the hub perfectly.
@@jimthecarguy Sorry, I just noticed that only the front brakes have big support spring.
Great! well explained!
thanks
Great job 👏
What size bolt did you use to take off the rotor?
8mm
My rotors are stuck and a hammer will not get them off. What size bolt did you use to screw in to push the rotor loose and out? Thanks.
M8 1.25
What the name of that tool used to push back that piston?
How about adjusting the parking brake?
Thanks for watching.
So you dont have to adjust the parking brake afterwards
What size is the bolt to push the rotor off
I would like to know this also.
The bolt that would be needed is an M8 .5"-.75". I got this information from customer service at 1a-auto.
@@sailingpittsburgh this was exactly what I needed, thank you!
@@sailingpittsburgh thanks!!!
@@sailingpittsburgh Thanks! I used an M8-1.25mm x 30mm bolt and it worked like a charm! No more hammering it!
Would have been nice if you told what size the bolt we needed for rear rotors
8mm
Thanks 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Could you please give the torque specs for all the bolts?
58 ft. lbs. on caliper bracket - 20 ft. lbs. on slider pin bolts - 76 ft. lbs. on wheel lugnuts.
What is the" D" for on the gear shift of a 2012 Ford Explorer?
Thanks for watching.
Is it possible to take off caliper before that initial piston push in?
Yes, that’s the normal way. Just use a c clamp once the caliper is off(as seen in multiple other Camry brake replacement videos.)
Hi Jim 👋 it's lil johnny Joe long time no see
Johnny its good to hear from you. I hope you are doing ok. Stay in touch.

I did one and it just stripped the bolt hole. then i hit it with a hammer until i busted the bearing. so this needs to stop being a thing!!
Is this completely legal sir?

Why does my motor shake in my 2003 Cadillac dhs
Did you check for codes?
Lol how do I do that
@@mattvincent527 USE A OBD 2 READER. They should do it for free for you at autozone/pepboys etc. And by shake do you mean runs rough ?
Motor mount?
yep putting greese on everything just a dirt and unnecessary build up of gump.
IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE TORQUE, DON'T BOTHER TRYING TO SHOW US HOW TO DO A JOB!!!
wow, horn abuse
Thanks for watching.
Thank you Jim👍👍👍
Very welcome
