Aviation Safety Network states in their reporting article that the same crew repositioned the same plane to Nairobi Kenyatta airport the day before this flight and unbelievably the CVR picked up the same warnings being presented to the crew as the ones they had during takeoff on the day of the crash.
The investigators were astounded that even on the flight the day before there wasn’t even a conversation between the flight crew regarding the warnings and what their significance could be. 😮
Obviously the crew made the repositioning flight without incident so we will never know why the crew didn’t react to the warning system.
I’m at a loss for words…How did this “Captain” fly for as little my as he did and not manage to kill himself or others before July 2014 🤷‍♂️

Some strange CRM going on there. A 54 y.o. captain with thousands of hours seemingly deferring to an 800 hour junior f.o.? In light of all those warnings, why the hell would they continue with their take off?

I was stunned to see what happened. A Fokker 50, it's virtualy imposible to crash.
But given the foolness of the capt, they'd never be able to make V2 + required speed due to overweight.
How can one continue well before V1 with a known engine failure...

It's interesting that the investigators never mentioned the effect of not feathering the prop. They obviously should not have taken off, but the added drag of an unfathered prop would give them more of a performance hit than the added weight. Identify, verify, feather.

I did t see where they feathered the failing left engine. Without doing so with reduced power and additional drag the speed decreased to the Vmc speed thus the roll over to the left. The captain with that much time asking the FO “Should we continue?” Shows a total lack of command presence. Number one rule of being a captain “You don’t let the monkeys run the banana boat”.

it: it happened in a poor country in which planes are not the best anymore and they are used to small failures and to still fly with them. While a small failure in a richer country means "abort takeoff", a small failure in a poor country is more than normal and they expect to fly with a not 100% working airplane
