The helicopter with main rotor stationary was not an optical illusion. It was just seen by the camera as stationary because the shutter speed of camera matched with the rpm of rotor.
I can see that many of these problems are caused by the GROUND EFFECT, where resistance is often reduced and the wings achieve high lift or the weight is greater.
