The cities of Clarksville, TN and Hopkinsville, KY were devastated as a result of this crash. The 256 members of the 101st were on their way home from peacekeeping duty in the Sinai. Families were getting ready to meet the flight at Ft. Campbell when news of the crash reached the area.
Apparently the FE had done a visual inspection before boarding. I would imagine he would have seen any ice buildup on the leading edge. ... and if so considering the MTOW, had there been signs of ice buildup he would have demanded de-icing.
I was a civilian working for the MFO at north camp in the Sinai when this happened. I had left for Christmas leave two days earlier. I lost many friends on that flight. RIP guys.
If you read the accident report, 4 out of 9 members of the Canadian Board dissented that it was the wings that brought it down. There was evidence of an explosion in the plane and there was CO in the lungs of the victims a tell tale sign of an on board explosion.
Three pilots, air force pilots and they crash from alleged ice on the wings. Seems curious to me. Wasn't there dissenting views taken by some of the investigators at the time? There was even talk of radioactive contamination on the aircraft wreckage.
What could be the dissenting factor? That was a classic wing ice accident. Even a recently deiced aircraft can build an almost invisible coat of clear ice that can cause this loss of lift.
The dissenting views came from 4 (5) Board members of the Canadian Aviation Safety Board (CASB) who wanted more involvement in investigations instead of just approving the investigators’ findings. There were 31 trained air crash investigators who determined that based on the wreckage pattern and from the Flight Data Recorder that ice on the wings and the plane’s weight being over 12,000 pounds than what was calculated is what caused the crash. Their findings showed that even a thin layer of ice on the wings could significantly degrade performance during takeoff and procedures at the time for determining if ice was on the wings did not call for a pilot to touch the wing. The dissenting Board members’ made a lot of incredulous claims such as that an explosion had caused the failure of all 4 engines and all 4 thrust reversers deployed in flight but provided very little evidence to back up their claims. The investigators walked from the end of the runway to the crash site and found no pieces of the plane had come off until it struck the trees so with that there was no explosion. The dissenters claimed that the presence of CO in some soldiers lungs declared an explosion had taken place but this was actually because they briefly survived the crash and breathed in CO in the post-crash fire before they died.
Presuming that there was time, raising the gear might have lessened the drag enough to allow the plane to accelerate to a speed that would stay out of the stall and begin a shallow climb . Being the only option left with death imminent it would be worth a try.
There were rumors that arrow air was a CIA front company. And addition there were nuclear weapons of sort in the cargo hold Never saw anything to contradict that But not to deice the airplane before takeoff was insane
Wow, when I read the number of passengers, that's a lot of people, it just sounds heavy, all military, probably men, that's a lot of weight, with any I've and snow in the wings that thing was doomed. R.I.P. 🇺🇸🇨🇦
I remember this one, the plane was overweight, even without icing!! All those Military Personel had all of there equipment with them, then put on to much fuel
Strange how one air crash has two different conclusions. In this investigation the wings had ice and snow build-up. In the other investigation the planes weight was not readjusted before take off.
Thanking those solders for their service. Also it struck me that your frames at the end of your clips showing the given airplane in flight could in this instance be symbolic of the plane taking the passengers and crew to their appointments in Heaven.
I can never figure out why the DC-8's look like these in your videos, and others? The DC-8 were long and skinny planes. I flew on them alot when I was a teenager.
Many times the crashes happen in circumstances beyond control. And you are uninformed because there have been many accidents involving Naval pilots too. You might want to rethink your phrasing because it makes you sound ignorant.
I put in a resume to fly for those people. Never given an interview. What a blessing.
This deserves so much more attention, a tragedy of this scale…

Surely the ice build up on the wings should have been spotted by the Captain/Co pilot doing a pre flight walk around check?

Its incomprehensible that the plane was not de iced.
Are we sure that it wasn't?
@@gusmc01 If it was deiced the crew may have ignored the hold over times for the fluid,

I don't know if I can watch these anymore. This one was very distressing.
I remember this like it was yesterday!
Love your videos❤️
agreed,Im watching them all right now

Sir please make a video on Boing 777 or airbus A380

Not likely weapons, but the plane was probably overweight because of the luggage associated with military personnel.

Uh, I’ve wondered about the seeming too-small wing area?
Damn arrow air is big on crashing fully loaded DC-8's

Bro can you show the crash of British midland flight 92 ?
Pine trees youre in my way...

It could be because of the lack of FDR and CVR

Early models were 150 feet long and this model DC-8-63 was 37 feet longer at 187 feet so a big difference in length.
I’m from Newfoundland where this crash happened
Raise the gear!!!
Rest In Peace Maia ❤

Why do former air force pilots crash their civilian planes? Also it is a disgrace to lose soldiers in any way.

Also overweight, I think.
Those engines dont look right for a DC-8...
That plane, N950jw, had Pratt and Whitney JT3D-7 engines. That's pretty much what they looked like.
🫡 may God’s blessings there sols
