- On October 22, 2023, a domestic flight from Paine Field in Everett, Washington to San Francisco International Airport, operated by an Embraer 175, registration N660QX, was subject to an unbelievable action by one of the pilots.
This man received a slap on the wrist for something that could have killed everyone. At the least, I hope he is receiving help. As previously mentioned, this could have been much worse of an outcome. Cudos to the flight crew for their quick reaction and Cudos as well to the flight attendants who truly went above and beyond to save everyone. The entire crew deserves recognition for their outstanding work. I for one applaud you all

There's more to this story as I understand it.
The pilot had been suffering from depression for a number of years. Because of strict drug regulation and fear of admitting to a psychological condition or taking a prescribed anti-depressant (which would terminate his employment) he chose to self medicate with mushrooms to alleviate depression. He ended his career regardless. One man's personal tragedy could have been a catastrophic tragedy for all onboard.
Screw him.

This reminds me of the recent MUSHROOMS party pilot. Just skimming thru... another pilot pulled this cuz he freeked. He did shrooms couple nites before flight. Seems this happens alot? Near killing everyone on board? I will drive.

OMG...Timothy Leary in the cockpit! Not a great choice. These videos are fantastic. I have watched A LOT of aviation accident simulation channels and this one is among the best! Was there an air marshal onboard? I hope we're not losing vigilance in this department. Commercial air is still the most vulnerable of all the potential targets of terrorism.
I agree. I was a FA for 25 years. But I can attest that the Situational Awareness training we received post 9-11 has remained with me to this day, even though I retired 10 years ago. It continues to serve me well. I’m so well trained in Body Language, etc., I am never selected for Jury Duty. LOL! (Funny how the Prosecuting Attorneys always lobby to select me as a Juror but the Defense Attorney’s won’t allow it! LOL!)
The pilot had a psychotic episode. His best friend had died, he went to stay with other buddies for a memorial. They pulled out mushrooms, he tried them, and as they do in some people, plunged him in psychosis. He felt he was not alive or in a dream state for days.
He lost the career he wanted since he was a kid, which is sad but appropriate. He didn’t mean to harm anybody and didn’t understand what he was doing, so he should not face attempted murder charges. Sad story all around. The moral is don’t play with your brain chemistry. He’s not the only person who has had a psychotic episode from “micro dosing” mushrooms. They are not a safe drug for anybody, but certainly not when depressed. Unless you are under a doctors care, don’t try to fix problems with psychedelics.
I wish he had been convicted of attempted murder because this story would have gone viral and put out the word that psychedelic mushrooms aren’t safe for consumption if you are leaving your couch! It is just as dangerous for someone to consume these mushrooms and then drive a Semi on the freeway!
Wow, I was about to joke that the Portland DA dropped all charges. Because, you know, it’s west coast justice. Which means, the perpetrator’s well being comes before the victims. This is nuts

These soft on real crime issues are exactly why this country is in deep peril. He could easily have taken this flight down if not for the pilots and attendants.
ON 50,000 dollar bond he pays only 5,000 to be freed, He should be doing serious time! imo. So sad.

@@bunglejoy3645 'Dead heading' is when an airline crew member of staff (eg a pilot, engineer, air stewardess etc), flies as a passenger in order to get to another location for their next duty.

FedEx had a similar situation in 1994 but was much more violent and had more potential for loss of life.

I've taken 1000's of hits of acid, ate magic mushrooms for over a decade, never once did I feel the need or want to endanger other people's lives, blaming drugs is so lame.
It wouldn't have happened if he hadn't scrambled his brain with drugs. You probably are decent enough to sit in your living room pondering your wallpaper, but given the opportunity I bet you'd be capable of similar acts.

That does not look like an Embraer airplane. Why was he in the jump seat when there were open seats available in the back?
This is a simulation, so it might not be perfect. It is not unusual for deadheading crew to ride in a jump seat to avoid taking a seat that could be used for a oaying oassenger.

This pilot got off to easy, for it will set the bar for future cases. Pilots know to seek medical attention, as a condition of their pilot license to fly. Cockpit jump seat are for only legal qualified pilots and that would exclude those that cannot preform the duties of a pilot. Pilots that use the jump seat must qualified and fit to assume a pilot roll, and clearly this pilot was not fit as a pilot and should not asked for a seat in on the flight deck. That pilot could have taken a passenger seat or a flight attendant jump seat but did not. I would consider this to be a hijacking event.
Are but that's thing if they seek medical attention they could be grounded so pilots aren't going to get medical attention

What is a "deadheading pilot"?
A person who flys for free in the jumpseat. Doesn’t have to be a pilot, typically an employee of the airline. Or, a pilot who’s just came from a Greatful Dead concert, still high on shrooms!

It's the entire left coast of North America except for Alaska. That would include Canada, WA, Oregon and CA. You could travel that entire region and you would not notice any difference in culture, high taxes, stupidity and intolerance.
