The bad blood that happened between Senior and Junior, so bad the father didn't go to the son's wedding, I think turned off many viewers. Doesn't matter who was in the wrong - it was all wrong. Sure we tuned in for the bikes, the drama, and the antics but the dark side of things was too much. Glad they eventually reconciled but the episodes where they tried to work together couldn't happen because Senior wouldn't be flexible and Junior was just holding in too much tension.
@@garyg8036 If you go bankrupt, it no longer belongs to you. And the bank (or whoever owns it then) doesn't want to pay the money for the dismantling and the self-storage company probably just doesn't care...
Hi just watched your video..... and was saddened.....it was quite a venture at the time..... turned out that the bikes were innovative but of bad quality in some cases...I'm American living in Berlin Germany and I attended to bring occ to Germany at one time to expand the brand to Europe... little did I know the condition the OCC company was in....I had started communicating with them via a Dutch motorcycle importer.... who helped me look at the conditions to import bikes parts and merchandise..... however years ago meaning 2013..... understanding Thier downfall...I then understood why they cut off communication with myself and others to follow up on anything simply because they just didnt relinquish any info on going forward.... some German and European dealers brought a few bikes over but generally the bikes were difficult to render road worthy due to the strict regulations in Germany.....it seemed like a an expensive venture and we. My brother and I moved on and invested in building American food trucks.....on the outskirts of Berlin this folded up due to COVID.... unfortunately..... nevertheless.....thank you for your video report.,.... have a good one and Ride on...
@@renegademoto It was nice... but perhaps good advertising too. I just checked their website. They have good rates. Much better than my unit in Connecticut.
While serving in the NY National Guard, we stopped in there on our way home from training and were treated like royalty. Paul came back in from home to say hello. They fed us pizza gave a tour and sent us on our way happy. Good memory. Not like the drama we all saw on TV. Thank you OCC. Scorpion 3D 105th MP Co. Buffalo NY
i worked there as a metal fabricator 2013-2017. we had a great team, built some wild stuff. an unforgettable time of my life ill always be grateful for
@user-ri7fn6wh6y yes, I was on the CMT series, Evan Favaro. Also on the discovery channel for the Shaquille O'Neil special and some other episodes. Everyone was pretty cool honestly. TV portrays people the way the producers want, not always reality
@SpeakeasyMotors That is very much an American TV approach make drama instead of a simple discussion. I imagine the two Paul's were a lot less like that in reality. I mean you need only look at Gordan Ramseys American shows vs the same show in the UK. UK one he's laughing and joking and having a good time. US one he's screaming shouting calling people idiots swearing etc. I'm not saying he didn't do that in the UK shows. It's just gone from a steady simmer when he's annoyed to being a character trait in those shows in th3 US where it's all drama.
Years ago me and a friend were working on the road out of ruralOklahoma. We stopped by there after we got off work around 9pm. We were surprised to see lights on in the restaurant, walked inside and ordered steaks. About half way through the bartender said the chef was coming out. He did and asked how the steaks were. Fabulous I said and they really were. He told us that was a pregrand opening only for friends and family! We were not invited, just walked in, didn't have a clue! He was cool and told us we were the first two paying customers and, besides Sr the first streaks they ever served. Then they gave us a tour of the showroom. They really were good people. It's a shame it all fell apart like it did.
I was at this location in 2011 when OCC was in full blown operation. The building was more like a destination than a business. When you entered the front door, the whole area was like a giant museum. As soon as you entered, they had almost every motorcycle that they built on the TV show on display. In the back they had racks and shelves full of clothing and motorcycle paraphernalia. If you walked all the way to the back area, they had large windows that looked into the shop, and you could watch them working on different bikes. As you walked toward the cafe you passed a small bowling alley, and the cafe/bar was huge. It had a tremendous bar, they served a large selection of beers, the food was typical bar food not great, and at night they had live music. It was 2 pm on a Tuesday and we couldn't get a table let alone find a parking space. The money that place generated should have paid for 10 more locations, it was greed and stupidity that closed OCC down. It was great to watch your video to see what happened to the building, with the exception of the fan and the floor tile it looks nothing like it did, thank you for posting this!
I was also here, i want to say around 2014 or 2015, it was still the way you described. I was shocked to see this video because it seemed so successful (the restaurant and bowling alley was packed) and had no idea this had went bankrupt.
That was a very interesting look at the OCC HQ and a great video, thank you for that. And the lady that showed you around was really nice too, great for her to do that.
They thought their name would sustain them. In the end it was the terrible quality of their product, added with the ridiculous pricing. They tried to expand too quick with an unnecessary 12m facility. Prime example of what NOT to do in business.
2008 the economy dropped, all chopper manufacturers went under even the hi quality, OCC, from what I understand used all hi quality parts, s&s motor and baker trans, I don't think it's fair to call all their bikes garbage,
@@sandraheilman2543 Senior was nothing but bullshit, drama, toxicity and ego. Junior was the guy in the background getting shit done, There's a lesson there.
Probably most of those crews that were on tv back then. How can you expect a quality custom product in record time? Ya cant, that's no way to work, not in the custom World.
In the beginning they made bikes from scratch. Then they started using premade parts and it turned into a typical reality show with impossible deadlines and family drama.
Yup 💯 I think after they moved to the big facility everything changed and I wasn't a fan anymore! I used to love it when they were in the smaller facility because it looked real everyday man working on bikes!
The first bike Sr. "built" was done by another shop in Newburgh. He always built unrideable, ugly garbage. Not worthy to be named with the real chopper builders.
They always outsourced frames and motors, dude took on this 12 million dollar load right into a recession. Fired his son, the guy we all wanted to see. Then tried to sell cheap shit, sell to other countries etc. But like resturants, people come for quality and if the product is shit the fame doesn't matter.
OCC has a place in Florida. They are just a restaurant and museum that also holds concerts. But Jr is still running his business and doing builds. A lot of people hating on here. I give them credit for trying to do something. They may have made mistakes and let it get to their head but I don’t fault them for wanting to be successful and big. They seem like good people in real life.
I use to watch that show, not because of the bikes they made, but witnessing a dad who had so many internal issues in his life and took it daily on his kids. THAT made me feel so appreciated of my own dad and how much I love him and how much I am grateful to have him still, barely by now, but this is life.
Several years before we also met them in Sturgis before they became popular. Had a long nice conversation with Vinnie's Dad that owned a golf course at the time. Wife and I rode there on their opening day. It was a great experience and met everyone from the show. They were all friendly and welcomed everyone. We were randomly selected to go back into the shop area for a tour. If you like them or not or like or dislike their bikes it just shows how on top one day and on the bottom the next day.
Not True, Business is Complex and requires the right management, product, a market that your product has room to expand into (No Market Saturation) or new/different products to expand or keep business growing. Understanding your products Market and customers also key. Then your companies ability to adapt, be profitable, competitive, run efficiently, control costs, and produce the product at price that is competitive. Of course quality and useful are important
This is heartbreaking. I was there a few times before the family split up. You would walk into a giant showroom with all copies up their show bikes. The giant centerpiece was their 9/11 bike. For a fan of the show, that place was awesome. as a matter of fact, my wife and I got married halfway between my family and hers, which happened to be right there and so on my wedding day, my cousins future husband took me out to lunch at the café, and I have to say their food was amazing too.. I’m glad to see the building is being used now for some thing, but I think they would be silly to get rid of all of the OCC stuff because that will draw people in… they could’ve charged you for that tour ha ha! Great video thanks!
Im currently rewatching the show from episode one to the end. My wife and I do that every year or two. I know there are a lot of haters but I just absolutely loved the show and the drama! It was their life. The good and the bad was just their life. I dont hate on any of them for being themselves. What a cool tour you took us on. Thank you!
This building came about by shear EGO. They certainly did not need that much space as a custom bike building. I stopped in when they still occupied the building and were still on TV, there wasn’t much going on.
I agree. It was all a shrine to Paul Sr and his massive ego. He had no business running anything because he could not even manage a healthy relationship with his family let alone any business. A huge clown.
I knew I would never buy one of those bikes, but I loved the show and the bikes. I couldn’t believe they were actually a TV show. What I loved about it was that it reminded me of the 80s. As a teenager I had the privilege to work at an auto parts store that also had an auto repair shop. Good times!
Nice you were able to ride up there and document the experience. So nice of the storage worker to walk you around and let you capture some footage. Thanks for sharing!!!
It’s easy to say bad things now but they had a huge fan base and had a really great show. This show will always be a big part of my childhood. The cafe was awesome. I went as a teen a few times and loved seeing all the bikes. RIP OCC
I used to stay at the hotel right next door a lot when I was flying charter because there was a Citation Service Center at the local airport. Given that I would be stranded because the plane would be broken if I was there, I spent a week one time in the hotel with not much to do and visited regularly. This was long before the cafe. Saw Paul Sr and Rick once in the shop while walking in the hallway you could walk down to view the shop. Personally not a motorcycle guy, but it was cool to see the bikes on display I had seen over the years on TV.

Used to love the show. Failed mostly because senior, despite being a nice guy on the face of it, was an arrogant ass. Junior wasn’t perfect, but look how he treated his son.
When I first saw that building on the TV show I immediately knew that whoever the fool was that approved their loan would soon regret it. Coincidentally, after the move the show went downhill drastically
correct, I thought they went in WAYYYY TOO DEEP and did they require people to walk thru the SHOWROOM to get to the FOOD???? eh... yea... someone wanted that building at the bank is my thought, but eh... BUT, if someone at the BANK wanted to OWN that commercial property for THEIR BIZ... ;) THEY MAY HAVE PUShED THRU THE SKETCHY LOAN just to get at the building at a later date.... just saying... people are sketchy some of them are that sketchy!
Up until right now I always assumed the show was based out of Orange County California. We used to watch the show for the cool theme bikes they would build, but we would always wonder 'How is anyone going to drive it?' That was quite the era of TV; OCC, Monster Garage, Top Gear, etc.
Theme bikes aren't really meant to be daily riders. They are meant for advertising a product or biz. The fact that they do function at all is a bonus. i don't think people quite understand that. I have built a lot of bikes and I ride every day. I certainly wouldn't expect to jump on a theme bike and go cross country. Just a thought.
I worked in self-storage for 20 years total, with two different companies, so the first self-storage owner was a very rich guy, and he would have me look for abandoned buildings and he would turn them into self-storages. It was a cool experience, like this self-storage manager i would have shown you around also. The owner i worked for would have never waited this long to pull down signs and put up his self-storage name instead. Hope the storage company does well, looks like a rural area. Those are tough areas to keep a self-storage facility filled with customers. Never knew where OCC was built. I couldn't take the show after they moved with all the anger after a while. I hate hearing arguing and fighting, i guess it comes from hearing it growing up between my dad and mom. Thanks for the video and tour.
A custom shop would never need that much floor space. That building was 4 times bigger than they ever would have needed. Just a vanity project which ultimately led to their (let’s be honest, Senior’s) spectacular fall from grace.
Actually you'd be wrong. The building hosted more than a shop. And he moved the operation out of NY to Florida and is still building bikes to this day. You see this often in states like NY NJ CA and the likes. To big for state taxes and to small to headquarters in another state with operations in those states.
the cafe side was the restaurant/game area with bowling, the main entrance was a showroom/store/museum, the upstairs was used for events where the fan was, never seen the shop area other then on the tv show. The building was huge, the cafe started out doing well and then it wasn't....
@@Stephen-carr I’m aware it was more than just the shop within the edifice. They clearly relied heavily on ancillary revenue from other offerings which, at best, would’ve barely covered costs to provide them. I can only assume they were counting on hordes of viewers (from their admittedly small TV viewership) to support their expensive fantasies. And just like I said, that square footage was way, way more than they needed, especially if they were to have stuck to the meat & bones of their operation. It was Senior’s wet dream, and it failed. And yeah, people know “of him”, but he’s a relative nobody now. End of.
@@Stephen-carr Really? I visited there when they were still open. It was around 2012 and I was a fan of the show. The shop was large but not outsized at all compared to a relatively successful large MC dealership. ALL the extra square footage was 'too big for your britches" hype for what turned out o be an inferior product of limited value, beyond band wagon corporate advertisement. I BET the facility in FL isn't even as large as that shop in NY plus a retail and service counter. NYS isn't "too small" for such a business - which is proved by the many other custom motorcycle builders and brand dealerships. Paul Sr. was a toxic human being with anger problems and an huge ego that told him he should get to do whatever he wanted because - well... "I should." They didn't fail because of "high taxes." No one goes bankrupt because of taxes - unless they just didn't pay taxes (which you PLAN FOR if your a decent business person) because they overextend themselves and can't sell enough product to cover expenses. They failed because Sr. made them build a pretty but shitty product and relied on a hype that couldn't possibly last. Lack of long term planning and a dearth of great products is what killed them. I'm also willing to bet that whatever is being built in FL are relatively tame artistic interpretations of the chopper aesthetic - that are actually functional motorcycles.
@@TonyRule it used to be the government broke up monopolies. Now they are helping construct them by eliminating small businesses, thereby securing the campaign contributions the large corporations make!
Thanks for sharing ! My wife supervised me with a visit. It was an impressive place. the cafe was cool we toured the shop I just missed sr. I watched the show from back home in Ireland. IM not a bike owner but did like the show. It was def certain they over estimated the scale they could achieve and sustain. its a shame for any business. I dont hear good things about the bikes. Thanks again for sharing I live in PA and might visit soon before the last of the OCC logos are gone. Aaron
Me and the wife went there during the year they were in Bankruptcy proceedings, they were still there and Paul Sr. Hummer was outside. The place was a mess outside, grass wasn't mowed, weeds and tall grass poking up all through the front pavers, hedge rows not trimmed, was sad to see the end of someone's dream.
Nice video, glad you captured that, i used to watch that show even though i ride a Suzuki DR 650 dualsport! Ride out of the town to the riding trails at age 67 a blessing! 😊
I always thought of their bikes as static displays only. I was surprised to read a comment from someone that has one of their bikes and still rides and enjoys it. Enjoyed the video!
They sold "normal" type customs too. Those were built from off the shelf parts and were probably comparable to any other custom. The ones they made for the show were mostly unridable.
I from Orange County, but moved away long ago. I stayed at the hotel across the parking lot in 2019. The Café was still open, the bowling alley and you could still walk around the gift shop and look at a bunch of the bikes from the show. I watched the show, but wasn't a huge fan...mainly watched because I grew up there. In the end, I just hate the waste of a purpose-built building that can't be reused - except for self-storage building. It was stupid of them to feel like their popularity would keep growing and growing and commit so much resources to it.
to be honest everyone was blind to it until it all came crashing down for people in 2008. banks were handing out loans like it was free candy and it was no different for businesses either. that was basically the beginning of the end for the company and you saw it in the pointless arguing and trying to restructure the company into doing assembly line type customer bikes.
A bit like Gas Monkey, all the early series were great when they were in their original building, but once theu started with all the insane deadline builds that was the deathknell for them...
All reality shows are bullshit. I Once witness a reality blind date show and it was bullshit too. I don’t like so call reality tv shows because it’s bullshit at least with movies and scripted shows you know what your getting in to.
I visited OCC in 2007. I was in Tarrytown NY on a training course, and one of my friends asked me to drop by OCC and take some pics for him. It was still in full swing, though I didn't see anyone from the show. The main area was a museum with some old bikes and many of the bikes they had built on the TV show. They also sold OCC merch and motorcycle accessories. They also showed models of their less expensive bikes, but they were still very expensive. I wasn't hungry and didn't visit the cafe, but it was a nice experience, though things have certainly changed there.
It wouldn’t have mattered if they had consistently sold the best made bikes on the planet. That style of bike will never be mainstream. Products like this always have a lifespan / expiration date. It was just foolish to invest that kind of capital in a business that was always sure to go away, and it did.
Sounds like they really needed to pivot to a “lifestyle brand” - selling clothing and whatnot with their logo. Still do a bike here and there, but the main business would have been merch sales. That and, not sure if they tried, but moving to a youtube channel and doing bike stuff, to earn a revenue stream on that side as well. (Again, maybe they tried that? I didn’t really watch the show…) And maybe even get in to the self storage business? Could have done some specialty bike storage, setting up units to accommodate motorcycles. It seemed someone thought a storage facility there would make good business sense.
@@stephen3164 "Sounds like they really needed to pivot to a “lifestyle brand” - selling clothing and whatnot with their logo." Thats what they tried to do at the store. It was 90% clothing and non-bike merchandise. Likely failed because Montgomery NY is in the middle of nowhere. Now if they had a store in a Metro area, it may have worked.
you are correct, that and... their refusal to make bikes that PEOPLE WILL RIDE and WANT TO RIDE and only make wat SR. THOUGHT A BIKE SHOULD BE...... was wat derailed their balloon and allowed their biz to ''sink'' ...iceburg straight ahead!!! :) I mean sure they made 10k bikes, CHOPPERS... when that chineese company GREAT WALL MOTORS is about to unviel the GOLDWING CLONE to start cruzin the interstates like the shark it is..... they ain't refusin to make bikes people WANT TO RIDE :) just saying useing that as an example, we have a 2002 GL1800 GOLDWING (pearl orange one) out there under the cover, sooo ;) I AM BIASED ON DA WINGz!
@@guytech7310 - I’d imagine a lot of their sales would be online, but yeah, being set up in a more populated area, or an area that gets a lot of tourism, would be more ideal for a store to walk around. You visit, you see some cool bikes on display, take some pictures, buy a t-shirt. I just read up a bit more on OCC - and most of my “knowledge” of the shop came from memes and short video clips. Also, I kinda lumped them in with West Coast Customs, which was a reality show that was entertainment first, and then quality builds somewhere lower on the importance list. But yeah, they built a brand, which is difficult to do - now they just need to branch out and see how they can continue to capitalize off of it. If there’s motorcycle accessories that they can design and have made in large quantities that other people aren’t making, their brand name on the package will carry weight.
I hate that people take pleasure in their downfall…it was revolutionary in marketing to a certain group, and every company wanted a piece! It showed what could be done, and influenced a generation of bike builders….the drama was over the top…AGREED…but it was a Father/Son struggle that many of us have felt played out for the world to see…I wish everyone of the cast a peaceful existence
More like reverse sarcasm. I, for one would sacrifice certain body parts for the opportunity they had. What was about them that the discovery channel had to have some of ??? AND THGE BLEW IT.....they splurged and NEVER showed any gratitude for what they had. Thing is, many of their project bikes are now subjects of you tube videos.....and their builds were crap. Yup, not only did they have the golden egg, but the goose that laid it.
If they built a quality product , the place would still be open, but when it's overpriced yard Art that you can never use , well you start to run out of Rich people who parks their bike in the living room as a coffee Table
They absolutely did not "influenced a generation of bike builders". in the real chopper world they are a joke. Indian Larry, Jesse James, and others have influenced a generation of bike builders.

Vinnie was, and is, a class act. I was there to see the OCC locations for business. Stopped by Vinnie's place with a coworker and Vinnie actually asked if we wanted to come in for a shop tour. He and Cody were busy, but still took time out for a random fan. Still have my V Force Customs jersey shirt, too!
We used to visit the cafe often and they always treated the military well. The bar was impressive. A colleague of mine used to sing there too. It was nice to have a fun place in the Hudson Valley.
The difference between me and the Teutels? I never had a custom bike shop. I never had a Tv show. I never sold one damn Tee shirt. They did, and a lot more I am glossing over. I has become envogue to trash these guys, their bikes, their FAMILIES, but, they all made a run at it, and, for a while, they were running HARD. Reality TV called, and they worked out a deal. I dont know much about the details, from a few feet back, I would be hesitant to make a show about a fledgling bike builder (and I say this, because they were NOT commercial builders, and then, over night, they were now CUSTOM bike builders. I would think the amount of creativity to churn out a new bike every week or so gets hard as hell. Hope all the guys are doing better today, and can someday, sit down with each other, and share a few good stories.....
There weren’t any good stories, there was just yelling and tantrums. And bikes you could look at but not ride. The building was just the same as their bikes, a pointless vanity project. I thought it very fitting when it was revealed the custom-painted flame bladed fan didn’t work.
@@K1lostream It was some kind of custom fan, too, with 'winglets' huge span...odd it's not hard-wired, either, with all the rest of the effort put into it, including location.
I agree that’s it’s sort of a low life thing to hop on the “it’s cool to trash OCC” bandwagon. If they really were such losers then it’s even more of loser thing for this guy and many more to make pilgrimages to the place. Oh well, I guess trashing America and those who try and do something big has become the “cool” thing.
My neighbor bought a bike from them at the height of the TV in 2005. It was such a big deal that local new here in Northeast Indiana did a story on the news about it. When I went over to look at it, I was expecting something like the themed ones you saw on the show. It was just a plain old chopper and nothing really much to it other than the OCC logo. My neighbor told me he wished he had not bought it and it was more a show piece than a nice long ride unit and he eventually sold it a year after getting and lucky cause the market for OCC bikes fell. He told me he over paid cause the show hype had the bikes going for a high dollar. The guy that bought it from him ended up selling it for half of what he purchased it and hated it too.
that's funny cuz Sr. just did a reaction video about his Geico bike being un-rideable and he claimed that the show bikes weren't meant to be driven, and boasted that all the hundreds of non-show bikes he built were great and never had any complaints. 😆
Most people jumping on OCC calling them junk now either wasn’t alive to watch the show or is now pretending like they didn’t like it. The show was wildly popular and it was pretty much common knowledge that the bikes built for clients weren’t meant as riders. They were promotional displays. They did build actual bikes to be ridden and they did build actual bikes that customers could buy and ride. They were choppers. Choppers by nature aren’t like you’re friendly Honda. Very niche product for a specific customer. And they did grow too fast and the wave died and they downsized. But I enjoyed every episode and if I wanted a chopper (I don’t) I wouldn’t hesitate to own one of their production bikes.
Thanks for taking us with you. That fan is awesome. Crazy that OCC spent 12mil on that new building... and owed money on it. Must have been a good building though for someone to spend that much rebuilding it into a storage space. Not cheap.
To be fair, Paul Jr is a legit ironworker/steelworker and knows how to work with iron and metal and welding. Definitely did a lot more than assemble bikes when they were doing the bespoke bikes for companies. But yes, later they added the production choppers that were assembled to spec, over and over again.
Anyone who watched the show could clearly see Paul Sr was just a figurehead for the company. Junior, Rick and Vinnie were the backbone of the builds and the ones responsible for its creativity, design and growth. Paul Sr was a runaway lunatic with a short fuse destined for failure. As for the bikes they were more artwork than roadworthy and you wouldn’t want to take them on a road trip. They weren’t reliable nor comfortable for long distances. Senior created his own demise. He literally lost everything through bad decisions. He had ZERO skills when it came to management and treatment of his employees. What one might say he wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. Ironically, Paul Sr is worth ONLY $500,000 now while Junior is worth $2,000,000. However, neither one has the notoriety they once had. Their glory days are well behind them never to return. Easy come easy go.
The Producers played the Teutuls and the Viewer's like a fiddle. They found Companies and promised them a whole episode of of their name being plastered about for good advertising, which paid for the build, most of the bikes weren't even delivered after the 'unveiling'. Then they got Senior and Junior to hype up the dramatics. Senior and Junior, and a lot of Viewers, started believing it was their 'talent' that was the attraction, got all big headed about it, and, of course, when the show started losing ratings, the Producers pulled the plug and the whole thing went to crap. Seniors ego got him to think he was some sort of great Businessman, he found out the hard way. Junior started kidding himself that he was some sort of gun Designer, and he found out he wasn't, lol.
You could tell at the time of the show production that Sr was a crazy person. He could mess up a wet dream! Things were going great and he’d come along and stick his nose it and it would all fall apart. Alway, always critical! Always a hot head! When they built this, I knew it was the beginning of the end. At least Jr had his common sense cap on most the time. RIP OCC.
I called this show "build a bike about it.". I never got the appeal. Thanks for the update. Saw this in my recommended and clicked because I haven't thought of that show in many years.
I have been a biker for almost 50 years now. Rebuilt bikes that I was hit by two different drunk drivers. I saw OCC when it first came on and thought ....am I the only one that sees these bikes are CRAP? The way they were built were nothing more than bar bikes. I am an old Iron Butt that would rather had been shot than to ride one of their horrible bikes for over a mile. As we say ..it was all hat and no cattle.
. How many times did they just barely meet the deadline on a build. They would finish it in a nick of time. Drive it up and down the road once. Ok that's good. Pack it up.
@@kens32052 By and large, the majority of the "deadlines" were made up crap, ala reality tv. In real reality, the bikes were likely pooped out when they got done, which was quite awhile before the footage was spliced together and you saw it on TV. One difference with this show would be that they could count on both Pauls to blurt out enough bluster and expletives without additional provocation and sweetening. But the "hurry hurry OMG you're gonna bash this together or I'm gonna ragequit!" was BS.

Of course its cool to shit on these guys now, but the reality is, they built bikes like nobody had ever seen before, there's no denying their popularity at the time, and they built a business bigger than anyone in these comments will ever dream of building
Their show was on back in the days when I worked in an office and rode almost continuously on the weekends, doing sport-touring and track days. Someone said another guy in the office was “into bikes” and sent him around to chat with me. His involvement with bikes was that he watched this show and took every word as gospel.
You mentioned that the store closed in 2016, but I went to this location in July 2019 with some friends and it was still open and thriving. The cafe was packed with bikers and we had a great time. On that same day, we also visited the shop of Paul Jr. in the nearby town. I believe they had to close during COVID and went bankrupt as many other business that had to close for a long time. By the way, Paul Sr. Moved to Florida and now runs OCC Roadhouse and Museum where he brought all the memorabilia from this location. He also just started a new RUclips channel about three months ago, called Paul Sr. Unchained.
You’re a little wrong. He has a shop in Florida and host bike rally’s fairly often. His shop is really nice. He is still building bikes. I recently saw him build one for Riley Gains. Really nice looking bike. He also built another one for someone famous. Can’t remember who. He is on RUclips and doing fairly well from what I see. He always has bikes on the rack.
In the early 2000's I was a "trash hauler" carrying refuse from Newburgh NY to the Scranton Pa landfills. The transfer station where we loaded up is immediately next door to this building. Watching them build this thing we all said it was a worthless monstrosity.
I worked at the airport there since 1988 flying helicopters. That was an amazing place when they built it. Had a biking accessories store, bowling alley, many bikes on display, giant restaurant with a giant 4 sided bar with many many beers on tap and a small music stage for live bands. Food was just ok but we had several fun company parties there.
Sounds like they tried to use the building for too many different businesses. A Bowling Alley? Really? Since when would a bowling alley and a custom bike manufacture be located together? That be like having a grocery store in a Harley Manufacturing Factory. Never will happen.
I always enjoy watching stuff being built from the ground up. They looked great. I understand they were said to be poor mechanically but appreciated the workmanship and fabrication. To me, it wasn't like other reality shows. I build electric guitars for my own use and enjoy art in many different forms. I would watch the show today if it were still on. I watch the custom car building/restoration shows too. All of them. It's art.
The show was a weekly train wreck and from what I've read in comments, apparently so were their bikes. Thanks for taking us along👍 i really enjoyed this, you have a new subscriber!
TV show was entertaining. Their bikes were trash. I went to this building back in the day, when you take a good look at the bikes in the showroom you see how shitty they were slapped together.
It's funny how Sr. now wants everyone to think occ was all about him, he did nothing but destroy the company and family ties to his kids. Without Jr there would not have been an occ
I did watch some of it back in the day. Stopped when they did a shoot where they were using brand new SUVs to play building interior demolition. I was saying to myself, "What a bunch of assholes. They're are people watching this show that ride a bus everyday because they can't afford to buy a car. These idiots are just taking 40, 50 thousand dollar plus vehicles, and are using them to demolition the interior of some such building. Pure, thoughtless assholes."
*True, they were a bunch of clowns who didn't take their job seriously. You never saw Chip Foose from his Overhaulin' days doing stupid stuff like that.*
I went to look at occ in the old location rental before this one.I had seen the fire bike and the lugs shoe bike on display.l still have my coffee mug.
“Reality” TV shows have limited life spans, often BC viewers tire of the scripted drama and dishonesty. Combine that with a business plan to push merchandising, instead of offering quality products and the inevitable will happen. Unfortunately for his past creditors in N.Y. and abroad, Sr. siphoned off enough personal wealth to move to FL and open a Cafe / Museum in the OCC name. 🙃
I live close to the OCC Harley dealer. He didn’t open anything. The local Harley dealer built the building and licensed the OCC name. They have a restaurant attached. Food is pretty good.
@@rossibonugliif they brought the same kitchen talent down that was in New York, then I can believe the food is good. That was the best part about the place in Newburgh.
I don’t know. Duck Dynasty peeps are doing good. It’s been off air going on 10 years. They have 3-4 very popular podcasts. Sadie Robertson has millions of subscribers and does a woman’s retreat every year and it’s always sold out. Jase and Jep have another show called Duck Family Treasures. Still going strong
No company that goes out-of-business takes their signs. What an expensive building to build, curved steel beams, not cheap. Enjoyed the 1st 2-3 years of the Show, than went to hell.........
Typically when a lease ends on a building (or the building goes back to the lender in a bankruptcy), "appurtenances", like signs, lights, ceiling fans, air conditioners, etc, are permanent improvements to the building and stay behind. On the other hand fixtures that are necessary to the operation of the business like file cabinets, tool boxes, etc go with the lessee when they lease is up. To make it simple, if it's bolted down it stays with the building unless agreed to in the lease. Typically appurtenances that leave with the lessee are trademarked items like such as McDonald's golden arches sign or a major gasoline company's logo sign and other "branded" items that again, are addressed in the lease.
I visited the old shop and retail store in 2006. The store displayed several OCC bikes, including the Firebike. As a firefighter who watched three brother firefighters die one night, I was deeply moved by the bike and all the commemorative items on the wall behind it. I added one more uniform insignia from my fire department. Was it worth my time to visit their facility? Yes
absolutely so did we in 011 - we also saw the 9/11 bike in NYC - we were moved- the bikes had fantastic details- i give a sh.t bout how they drive or not- theres a lot of bad talking bout hem- i see it different- i like the teutuls and i admire sr.s work as much as jr.s - peace
That building is a monument to delusions of grandeur. How anyone could be that stupid as to build a 12 million dollar facility based on the popularity of a tv show that anyone with common sense would know would eventually end is beyond me. What a joke.
I feel like Richard rawlings did the same thing. Opening restaurants and buying a huge facility. At least he has other businesses that started other shows. I'm sure he did ok. But yeah, feels like he was following the Sr thinking
Sr. has a gig in Tampa with a big Harley Dealer. Bikes on display, and big bar and restaurant. I saw Sr. last winter, and he looks very good and is a gentleman to chat with.
We see him regularly in Spring Hill / Brooksville. Met him and Mikey at a breakfast place. We chatted a minute outside then after their meal he came to our table and got a few pictures.
The 'new' owner of the building is leaving LOTS of money on the table. He should open the OCC Cafe, or lease it to a restaurant entrepreneur to open. The storage lady said LOTS of out of towners come visit, AND there appears to be a Hampton Inn motel across the street. If you look at the main drag, there is LOTS of traffic. location location location :)
he gave the building up to the lender in 2011 and the lender sold the building in 2016. he was just leasing it. they closed the cafe at the end of 2020 before opening the other place in Florida 8 months later.
@@positivevibetec you have to have enough foot traffic to warrant staying open and paying your bills and from my past line of work, I dealt with many restaurants over the years on a daily basis and they all go through it money-wise. The front of the house looks all nice and fancy for the customers, but the back of the house is a different story trust me. I’ve seen so many businesses (not just restaurants) close because they either truly suck at business or they don’t pay attention to the most important 3 things in store front businesses….foot traffic, foot traffic, foot traffic. They don’t technically have to be walking but there needs to be plenty of traffic passing by or extremely close by to this location to survive…especially the café (not just locals going to and from work). [The comment below from Sirmonkey1985 says it all]✌🏾🙏🏾
Do they really have enough interest in an old reality show or even regular traffic to justify reopening the cafe? Yes, there's a hotel across the street but that apparently wasn't enough to keep it open the first time. I'm pretty sure others had a similar idea and when they looked into it realized it wasn't worth the financial risk. If it were viable it would still be open even under new management.
All i ever hear about the actual peoplefrom the show is how nice and genuine, accepting and hospitible they are. Maybe they dont deserve all the negative comments.
As of 2021, Orange County Choppers (OCC) is located at 10575 49th Street North, Clearwater, Florida, at the OCC Road House & Museum.
Its not a huge surprise that a roid-raging maniac couldn't keep his business alive after the TV money dried up.

OCC is the american Ludolfs
I had the same experience in 2012. Shame it’s gone
Greed and stupidity, a dangerous combination. Look at most gov'ts including our own.

The bikes were literally unrideable.
Probably most of those crews that were on tv back then. How can you expect a quality custom product in record time? Ya cant, that's no way to work, not in the custom World.
I remember they had the Working Man's Special, a bare bones motorcycle anyone could finance for around $30k.
It was always a TV show, never a business.
In the beginning they made bikes from scratch. Then they started using premade parts and it turned into a typical reality show with impossible deadlines and family drama.

I seem to remember them opening up a Custom Chrome catalog and ordering Chi-Com crap.
The first bike Sr. "built" was done by another shop in Newburgh. He always built unrideable, ugly garbage. Not worthy to be named with the real chopper builders.
Fabricated drama, I always thought
They always outsourced frames and motors, dude took on this 12 million dollar load right into a recession. Fired his son, the guy we all wanted to see. Then tried to sell cheap shit, sell to other countries etc. But like resturants, people come for quality and if the product is shit the fame doesn't matter.

Hi hi
O wow, i was there in 2008 😢
@@Stephen-carr I’m aware it was more than just the shop within the edifice. End of.

The property taxes and insurance alone could put a business out of business.
those are the two giant supposedly necessary flat out slavery scams that make it so hard for any business to stay afloat

Bull, he tides it around the Walmart Parking lot
They sold "normal" type customs too. Those were built from off the shelf parts and were probably comparable to any other custom. The ones they made for the show were mostly unridable.
There is a YT Channel with a Guy trying to get the infamous Geico Bike to run again. Seems it had a custom fuel system that never really worked.
@@guytech7310 Yeah, The Bearded Mechanic I think it is.
Yep, had he made a nice but smaller shop he would likely still be there today but his massive ego got in the way.
Ultimately it was the GFC that finished them. When all the doctors and dentists and lawyers stopped buying their overpriced toys, it was over.
to be honest everyone was blind to it until it all came crashing down for people in 2008. banks were handing out loans like it was free candy and it was no different for businesses either. that was basically the beginning of the end for the company and you saw it in the pointless arguing and trying to restructure the company into doing assembly line type customer bikes.
Jr learned from that mistake, though, and has kept his operation small. As a result, he's now better off than senior.
A bit like Gas Monkey, all the early series were great when they were in their original building, but once theu started with all the insane deadline builds that was the deathknell for them...
Like all so-called "reality" shows, this one proved that the word "reality" in this case was a synonym for "bullshit!"
Kardashians on bikes.
❤❤❤❤❤❤😘😘😘😘
It wouldn’t have mattered if they had consistently sold the best made bikes on the planet. That style of bike will never be mainstream. Products like this always have a lifespan / expiration date. It was just foolish to invest that kind of capital in a business that was always sure to go away, and it did.
Like Disco and Bell Bottom pants, just a fad.
@@stephen3164 "Sounds like they really needed to pivot to a “lifestyle brand” - selling clothing and whatnot with their logo."
Thats what they tried to do at the store.

Another factor is they are hard to get insurance coverage for them, which even discourages even the fringe who likes a freak chopper cruisers

I want to say that manager was very nice and kind.
How nice of her to let you in and give you a tour. Bless her! The fan doesn't work...kind of like most of their bikes. LOL

😥
Nice to look at some, but factory built is the only bike will buy, enough stuff to worry about.
Weren't the non-TV bikes built to ride how Senior liked? I swear I remember him saying that in one of the shows or an interview...

I doubt IL would want anything to do with a build a bike a week TV show.....
Indian who!?!
Soo true ! All too many don't realize nothing lasts forever & needed to be smart Live within there means & invest there money . Aka ( fools)

Very American in thinking
Senior was just that. Delusional. He thought it was him, and it was always Jr. who kept things alive.
Exactly that. I think the shop they moved into after the little one by the steel business should of been as big as it needed to be.
@@WilleJamesHuff yep. No one was buying their bikes. Their only income was the show and sponsor bikes.
I am sure he is living comfortably in his nice log cabin spread while the people who never got paid have to live with their involvement. 😊
I am sure he is much nicer now thats he is off stereoids
@@cv643dhe’s still looking yoked up.. hard to believe a 75 year old can be in that good of shape.
We see him regularly in Spring Hill / Brooksville. Met him and Mikey at a breakfast place. We chatted a minute outside then after their meal he came to our table and got a few pictures.
@@1927Scavengersdid he get pissed off that the place was a mess and ask one of the staff to leave for the day?
The 'new' owner of the building is leaving LOTS of money on the table. He should open the OCC Cafe, or lease it to a restaurant entrepreneur to open. The storage lady said LOTS of out of towners come visit, AND there appears to be a Hampton Inn motel across the street. If you look at the main drag, there is LOTS of traffic. location location location :)
Yeah everybody loves hanging around old smelly boomers...😂😂😂
Kind of shows how bad of a businessman Paul Senior was because he could have kept that stuff open
he gave the building up to the lender in 2011 and the lender sold the building in 2016. he was just leasing it. they closed the cafe at the end of 2020 before opening the other place in Florida 8 months later.
The new facility is next to Bert's Barracuda Harley-Davidson in Pinellas Park, Florida. The OCC Road House & Museum includes a restaurant, museum, bike-building shop, retail section, billiard hall, and concert pavilion.
I havnt been there myself but i heard the food was ok but nothing to write home about. One of these days i might go try it out myself.
