In '75 I was working at Tower Sunset. Bowie came in alone to buy some albums. No makeup, dressed pretty normal for the times. No one recognized him. I went up to him and said "Bowie incognito". He just smiled and put his finger to his lips. The '70's were great. So many top musicians came in the store without an entourage. Elton, Joni, Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin to name just a few.
I believe this too. The saying "Off to parts unknown" comes to mind, except I believe that he is such an old soul that wherever "there" is, he's been there and back and there and back again and there so many times that he probably pretty much knows every cosmic inch of it by now. He's surely still making cosmically amazing music, I agree...
Bowie was one of those gems who actually sounded better live than he did on the album. I'm a millenial who discovered his genius a little late and he is constantly blowing my mind.
Same here! I started collecting his records a year before he died. I was so distraught! Only thing that makes me think death won’t be so bad. I wanna be where Bowie is! ❤️
I hadn't been born when this song was released (it happend more than 10 years later) but it sounds so familiar to me. Amazing record. Bowie is the real starman
It was my 65th birthday a couple of days ago. I was in my first year at Southend School of Art when me and four of my mates took my Mini to see him at Aylesbury. You probably have no idea how subversive and attractive he was then. I so wanted to be like him, but I've always had the build of a rugby prop. Nonetheless he made such a difference to my life and I've done some amazing things because of his inspiration. Now I'm old, fat and retired but still in my heart is David Bowie. Thank you for this gift.
The Spiders from Mars are one of the most underrated bands in the world. The bass lines are killer. Bowie took over a stage so magnetically that the calibre of the band behind him gets a bit overlooked.
I was 13 when this came out. I'm 60 now and my respect and appreciation for him and his whole glorious body of work only continues to grow. Musician, singer, writer, actor, painter...he was a bright creative flame.
sammie antha Bowie was a pioneer of gender bending and was one of the most famous supporters and frontman/womam to the lgbt community back then. The comment he madr is in reference to that.
Seems closest to the recorded version, in this and it he's communicating in earnest about cosmic grooving, freedom, the Innocence of childhood as a reality beyond adult fear of the mystery of things - the 60s at their best!
Thank you for this video and for keeping the spirit of David alive. Been a fan since I was 12, I am now 57. Jan 10, 2023 - seven years since his passing. Will always love you, David and thank you for your brilliance and heart.

Richard F. Kerdasha , thanks for lyrics. It seems like D.Bowie is giving us a progress report on Major Tom, three years after Space Oddity,,and achieved lasting recognition for his efforts as a result… sttgaegoaktd
Just curious, all the lyrics say " let the children lose it let the children use it let all the children Boogie," but doesn't it kind of sound like he says let the children use it let the children lose it but all the children Boogie? Just listen to it again, and tell me if you hear it too. I know I'm wrong, but it almost sounds like that's what it says instead of the actual lyrics. Kind of freaking me out
Thanks for lyrical it's great work and video is great it's easy to find fault in old school technology but it was certainly raw and rough but totally different from what we expect from artists Today

In my opinion, he was in his prime in his early thirties. I love his look during the Isolar 2 tour: he looked so healthy, so handsome and very self-confident. That was his first tour after longtime where he was "David Bowie" on stage, and not one of his characters.
For those who didn’t know; Bowie wasn’t that famous outside of the UK in 1972 and at first several of the shows he had in the US were cancelled due to lack of attendance. It actually took a while for the world to appreciate Ziggy Stardust; luckily they eventually did!

I remember singing this song over and over in the spring of '77 and someone signed my senior yearbook mentioning my love of this song. Genius. Oh and Ziggy landed in a London pub 50 years ago this past Thursday.
When he died my living daughter- I lost my darling girl to cancer-a beautiful spirit- but the living one KNEW how hard this was going to be for me. She knew of my respect and love for his talent. Thanks again, Mark Sussex.
Bowie was a classic, brilliant, trail blazer,, pioneer and a super hot sexy legendary man that had both men and women captivated by his talent and fearlessness....
Such, sweet classy guy in spite of being such a brooding, drug crazed, sexually adventurous, musically experimental rock'n roll alien. A basket of beautiful contradictions! Many us forgot he was mortal.
This was the summer when as a 12 year old I discovered David Bowie and became a life long fan. He was always there in my life and (as someone so aptly commented elsewhere here) he was my friend I never met. This is an incredible video Mister Sussex, so brilliantly woven together, you've done fantastic work on this. I could even feel I was there at those shows which were just a few miles away but sadly I was too young and I was not.
I know how you feel, for me David Bowie has become more poignant as the years have gone by. You say something very apt, when you say, "he was my friend I never met". When he died Kate Bush said "he was ours" and both of you have summed up how I felt about him. He was woven in with my whole life, especially as a teenager. It hurts that he has gone, but he lives on in so many. ❤️
The intro and opening verses to this song are so perfect for the time and place and scene that Bowie was in. Like a drug induced fantasy or sleep walk from some random party or gathering where you didn't know anyone and woke up without any bearing as to time or day. He lived it of course but also chronicled it so well in his lyrics and music. He puts you in that scene even if you were not alive at the time or aware.
sent chills down my spine, thanks so much!great to hear Ronno's backing vocals so clearly.I was 14 when this came out,I'm 64 in a few weeks but still say this is my all time favourite album.
Oh man, I happened to be rocking some great headphones when I listened to this. Thank God I was. When that kick drum kicks in, ahhhhh! Talk about 'out front'! What a deliciously absurd mix this is. I really love it. Mick Ronson's backup vocals are excellent. Thanks for this, Mister Sussex.
I will never forget seeing him on TOTP with this song. I was transfixed as was my mother. She was about 52 at the time and thought he was just so beautiful. I miss them both. ❤️ Mr Sussex, thank you for uploading this. These days mean a lot to me.
fantastic , thank you so much....from a hardcore Bowie fan. I understood and related to the man, his music and his art. He was an exceptional human being ......gifted in songwriting, multi-instrumentalist, art, modelling and acting, fashion design, acting and was blessed with one of the most incredible voices....truly a British Elvis.
Elvis did not write his own songs! Just had the great Voice and Looks! Think Bowie trumps Elvis overall, having Voice, Looks and the Imagination to write all his own works (Not to mention the Acting Skills and Artistic Endeavours on the side)! ★⚡(◕‿◕)⚡★ 🎸
When they meet each other, David and Mick, Rock and Roll could finally happen the way woul not be possible agaisn untill nowadays. Awesome moment not only in classical seventies Rock and Roll time but since then untill forever. Indisputably at all. Videos are incredible.
Grande Bowie siempre se te recordara como un maestro.esa canción es hermosa me imagino que estás con el hombre estrella..un abrazo dónde este tú amigo por siempre leo
I'm a sculptor, and when I sculpt musicians, I tend to hear their songs for weeks beforehand, with Freddy Mercury it was constant Bohemian Rapsody, with Gene Simmons it was constant Strutter, with Marilyn Manson I was bombarded with The Reflecting God so I sculpted them, now I'm haunted with Star Man by David Bowie, guess he will be my next sculpture
I finally got to see him in 1990, but it was an outdoor venue and he was so far away I couldn’t even see him. They had screens on both sides, but it wasn’t the same. I wish I could’ve seen him in a smaller place. 😢
You've done it again. Mister Sussex. Made my day. Day? No, week. Week? No, month. Oh, whatever, you've made me immensely happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
i always heard my mom listening to david all the years growing up (im 26) so i wanted to listen with my good headphones and im listening to all the subtle details and really appreciating it more
After watching The Man Who Fell to Earth, I get why you call youself ''Mister Sussex'', great video. You're amazing for sharing with us Bowie fans such hidden gems.
This man was so talented, this is the year I graduated from high School, and I used to play this album nonstop ,one of the top five albums ever I believe, forever missed 😇☮️😎🤪😍
Wow! This is so amazing! It's great to see Bowie's obscure footage. You are a genius! Thank you Mister Sussex. I will always love him. What an inspiration!
Thank you, Mr Sussex. I was twelve & would have happily painted my face Bowie style, except I was already getting my head kicked in enough for even liking him. Bits of Britain were brutal in the early 70s. Bowie was a permanent bright spot for outsider kids like me, always will be. RIP, Starman.
Elektric Skeptic Amen to that. Though in time, do “remember, Ducky, everybody gets got”. My favourite lyric from The Next Day/I’d rather be high. He knew. We all get got. I wonder if his mum once said that to him?
Ground breaking legend, breaking through other peoples opinions, holding onto the integrity of his art and performing like a true professional. Mick Robson is an amazing guitar player and performer as well.
Avevo 13 anni, e questo fu il mio primo 45 giri che il mio modestissimo stereo consumò con entusiasmo...quello fu l'inizio di un'ammirazione (con qualche flessione) per questo spettacolare musicista...
I confess, as a ten year old in '72, I was devouring everything David Cassidy (unashamedly). By '75, it was everything David Bowie, all the way to 'Black Star', what a joyous ride it was!
1972 - 7th September. I was 16 years old and my 1st ever live gig was watching David Bowie at the Top Rank Hanley ... still sends shivers down my spine watching this, thanks for sharing 😍👍
I was there. It was the 9th, I’ve still got the ticket. I remember he only played for an hour and didn’t do the costume changes, just jeans and a silky zip up bomber. But hey, what a night. First Bowie gig for me.
Damn that's amazing, i really wish I can meet him
I think you speak the truth. Very cool, very cool.
This really is one of the most incredible Bowie-related stories I've ever heard. Sounds so magical.
thats so cool man
HELL YEAH THAT'S SO COOL. PEACE TO YOU MY FRIEND'S.🙏✌️😎🏴
Bowie didn't really die, he just transformed into a being of pure energy and is flying across the cosmos making cosmically amazing music.
I believe this too. Didn't know what time it was and the lights were low
I leaned back on my radio
Some cat was layin' down some get it on rock 'n' roll, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase haze
That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
I had to phone someone so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out so you heard him too
Switch on the TV we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window I can see his light
If we can sparkle he may land tonight
Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky

This was the music we grew up with. Playing in the parks or on the streets no internet and we felt sooooo freeeeee and imaginative.
He'd like to come visit,
but he thinks he'd blow our minds...
And meet us*
He did come to meet us and did blow our minds
I wish he would come back to visit.....
He has blown our minds
@@waynegonzales2951 Absolutely true! And he was Awesome!
I will never forget seeing him on TOTP with this song. I was transfixed as was my mother. She was about 52 at the time and thought he was just so beautiful. I miss them both. ❤️ Mr Sussex, thank you for uploading this. These days mean a lot to me.
Sweet for U 👍😘
Think that was a performance which was life changing for many of us
@@DavidTransformer I'm plugged in to Bowie a lot lately, yes he affected me in a way I can't describe xx
AbsofreakNlutely agree! I was 11 and Mom and I saw him on Midnight Special!
David was one of a kind and thank God for that. Everything he did was an inspiration to so many and he will always be sorely missed.
Absolutely. For every occasion of life, there is a perfect Bowie song to bring depth and understanding to the experience. Take care my friend.
I believe he's the most beautiful man I have ever seen, damn.
The true rawness of this masterpiece draws me in. One of the best live performance I have ever seen!!!
fantastic , thank you so much....from a hardcore Bowie fan. I understood and related to the man, his music and his art. He was an exceptional human being ......gifted in songwriting, multi-instrumentalist, art, modelling and acting, fashion design, acting and was blessed with one of the most incredible voices....truly a British Elvis.
Michele Romeo wrong. he was a universal david bowie.
Elvis did not write his own songs! Just had the great Voice and Looks! Think Bowie trumps Elvis overall, having Voice, Looks and the Imagination to write all his own works (Not to mention the Acting Skills and Artistic Endeavours on the side)! ★⚡(◕‿◕)⚡★ 🎸
Любимый Дэвид, спасибо за помощь и поддержку
Denada.
When they meet each other, David and Mick, Rock and Roll could finally happen the way woul not be possible agaisn untill nowadays. Awesome moment not only in classical seventies Rock and Roll time but since then untill forever. Indisputably at all. Videos are incredible.
A forever number this one! Raise a glass to a great track and a very unique artist who'll live on forever!!
Thanks for sharing. 1 of the best Bowie songs for me.
I grew up ,with this incredible man Miss you Bowie Such a great artist in the music 🎶 industry 💜 ❤
Grande Bowie siempre se te recordara como un maestro.esa canción es hermosa me imagino que estás con el hombre estrella..un abrazo dónde este tú amigo por siempre leo
David .....waiting in the sky ❤❤❤
I think that David is the Starman cuz he's blown our minds
I thought it was really that E.T. creature from the movies? :-)
SO RIP STARMAN....😭
I'm 55 and this might be best ever musical performance I have ever heard . its 9pm and I'm fucking crying cuz its so fucking beautiful
David's lyrics and music get better and better every time I listen to him. What a gift to all of us. :) Great job on this post. Gracias
I think this live version is even better than the studio version. Shame on me for not seeing Bowie in concert before he passed. 😞
I finally got to see him in 1990, but it was an outdoor venue and he was so far away I couldn’t even see him. They had screens on both sides, but it wasn’t the same. I wish I could’ve seen him in a smaller place. 😢
Spectacular !!!!!!!! Like we were in 1972 or better...Congratulations , many kisses
2022, thanks for sharing - 50 years of awesome
Takes me so deep into my own thinking, and just so grateful that Bowie came during my time. Gave me so much, thank you Starman.
Saw him 8 times mostly at The Garden in NYC never surpassed. ❤❤❤
You've done it again. Mister Sussex. Made my day. Day? No, week. Week? No, month. Oh, whatever, you've made me immensely happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hardly crying listening, thinking , remembering
we are very blessed to have this thank you
Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like David Bowie
Thank you so much for you work. this is fantastic and brings me back to 1974 when he toured North America.
Watching this again and again , so f""""""ing amazing .
Bach, Beethoven, Bowie
🍻
Pernille👿♥️❤️💍
i always heard my mom listening to david all the years growing up (im 26) so i wanted to listen with my good headphones and im listening to all the subtle details and really appreciating it more
@4Tlccas yeah his music is really timeless I like how he talks about aliens too before it was normal
After watching The Man Who Fell to Earth, I get why you call youself ''Mister Sussex'', great video. You're amazing for sharing with us Bowie fans such hidden gems.
Nintendonix thanks. Well if it's good enough for Thomas Jerome Newton... ; )

Nintendonix p
Yes, Mr. Sussex...love from SanAntonio, Texas
Maravilla 😢😢porque no te escuché antes gracias !!!!!!!
I'm so sorry that happened, & your post made me sob. Love to you - Outsider to outsider...
Elektric Skeptic Thank you. Returning the love :)
@@GT380man Same love RIGHT Back To you Mate - Earthly Sibling & Bowie Brethren ✌🏽💜💜✌🏽🎶❤✊🏼
David Bowie is a legend !
Love him so much ❤️
that smile at the end...pure and sweet
keep on rockin starman
Can't get good music like bowie.these days brilliant
Muy muy avanzado para su época... mis respetos para el master Bowie...
I confess, as a ten year old in '72, I was devouring everything David Cassidy (unashamedly). By '75, it was everything David Bowie, all the way to 'Black Star', what a joyous ride it was!
Saw David in Tribeca many a days. What an absolutely lovely man..
Miss him so much... What a legend, best of the best, always in our hearts ❤️✨
Just found the ticket. My mistake - it was the 7th!
