After smoking weed at 14 years old, I became a chronic stoner for 15 years with approximately smoking multiple times everyday. Today makes it day 20 of not smoking and I am feeling so much better in life especially with the way I’m able to focus and overall just feeling better in life. Breaking that dependency of weed is a huge achievement for me and if you’re debating quitting weed, do it now, you’ll thank yourself later and you won’t regret it.

I'm on day 9 cold turkey, used to smoke and ounce a week for about 8 years mixed with tobacco. About half a month to 2 months ago I quit the tobacco and noticed that my weed habit was more an addiction to the act of smoking rather than being stoned as I had a really strong tolerance and was mixing it with tobacco. I would smoke like 4-5 largely packed bongs in a row to feel proper high.
I couldn't get any buds for 4-5 days around 3-4 weeks ago, so I had a forced tolerance break (was still smoking really low quality shake I had leftover before bed). When I got on again I had just gone through a bit of a crisis and lost a "friend" through an alcohol and coke fueled argument (tried to fight him after he said some out of line stuff and ended up sending him abusive messages after he wouldn't fight me, he was in the wrong initially but then I took it too far, still smh at my behavior) and decided it was time for me to improve as a person and quit my bad habits (I was already not drinking and doing drugs before the argument but decided to drink socially after a month or so without and the coke was my "friends" as he is quite the cokehead, You could say ending that "friendship" was a good move on my behalf but just executed very poorly).
So I was on self improvement HEAVY reading mad books instead of playing video games and just overall working on myself mentally and physically. I only would smoke at 4:20pm (was so proud when I came up with this idea lmao) and would only have one small bong every couple of hours and was getting high af and was having a great time honestly.
Eventually since I was used to being a heavy smoker before the break (used to smoke my whole chop in a row aka 3-6 bongs back to back, smh) I thought I could get away with having a big bong and I was WRONG! gave me a panic attack and I didn't smoke the next day. The next time I smoked it was awesome after the first but then I had a 2nd too quickly and HAD ANOTHER BLOODY PANIC ATTACK, during said panic attack I thought to myself "why tf am I smoking if I personally don't even want to" (Self improvement being my main focus at the time along with my mental and physical health). Next day decided to smoke again and got a THIRD panic attack, all 3 being in the same week; They weren't on back to back days, but were still in the same week and I decided I was going to take a month off.
I thought the panic attacks came from me smoking a little too much (having a big bong or having too many too quickly) and I was feeling guilty about smoking since I was trying to improve as a person and I wanted to see if I could go without because I used to have a really weak mindset to the point where I didn't even think I could go a day or two without smoking.
After my first week without smoking I started to feel really good (could have been from the self improvements I had made and been making) and even noticed I gained a bit more muscle quicker than usual, I'm assuming the extra gains are due to my testosterone increasing from not smoking; because my workouts haven't been anywhere near as intense lately as I cut myself some slack with working out to focus on quitting smoking and was just doing whatever I wanted when I would work out instead of following my workout plan.
My mental health has been skyrocketing and focus, clarity and memory improvements have been lit. I was getting some DECENT cravings, and I even still have my bong and weed sitting near me as I'm typing; I didn't throw it away because I feel an important sign in overcoming addiction is by having access but choosing to not use it. Any moment I can chop up and smoke so the temptation is always there but I CHOOSE not to (been getting easier everyday to not feel the urge to rip one lmao).
The proudness I have been feeling in myself is a great motivator to stay strong and not give in and smoke, along with the fact that my dreams have been VIVID AF and I've even had a couple nightmares and I really don't want to have to go through these vivid dreams again, so I honestly think I'm done with being a chronic stoner (might have an occasional social smoke here and there IF I can develop a healthy relationship with weed instead of my unhealthy relationship I had with it). But I am planning on staying sober for a while, as I am enjoying it.
Good luck to anyone out there that's quitting or even just planning on doing it, It isn't the easiest thing to do but it definitely isn't the hardest. YOU GOT THIS !!!
    😁💙

      @LIZZARDWOLFE 2 года назад +1

How's it going a month later? I'm in the exact same place with the tobacco and weed, it's the act of smoking it that I like so much.

    • @herculesbush4337
      @herculesbush4337 2 года назад +12

@@LIZZARDWOLFE yeah I'm going well, my memory and focus has improved immensely, my emotions are feel way more stable and I don't have any where near as much anxiety, and time no longer is a blur. When I was smoking heavy I swear a month would feel like a week almost, and now sober a month actually feels like a month lmao.
I don't have any cravings anymore other than the occasional times where I've gotten drunk and then ended up at home playing video games with friends, when that happened I had sudden cravings to have a smoke pretty bad. (an old trigger I guess, cause I used to smoke the most while playing video games. Cutting out/heavily restricting video games has helped a lot).
I didn't end up giving in in those moments, it was hard to just ignore the cravings as my bong and weed were close by (I still have weed, as the last time I bought some I quit after smoking barely any of it and I enjoy knowing that it's here cause It makes me proud of my willpower). But the fact that I didn't give in left me feeling really proud of myself the next day and it was definitely worth not smoking.
I have been getting to sleep fine, but I have been having vivid dreams since I quit and it is pretty annoying, at this stage as It's been 46 days and I'm still spending most of my sleep dreaming.
I read that normally the vivid dreams stop after 28 days, but everyone is different and I think how long you smoked for and how much affects the length the vivid dreams will last for. They have eased a bit and the only times I had nightmares were the first 2 weeks, so fingers crossed they end soon.
Quitting the tobacco first while still smoking weed helped me realize how much I was addicted just to the act of smoking. Cause no tobacco reduced the amount I would smoke weed drastically (and I was getting super faded lol).
The tobacco probably was harder to quit for me mentally, after a couple weeks my lungs really enjoyed no tobacco though I will tell you that lmao. The weed has had more "withdrawal symptoms" for me though, but the symptoms are just pretty much the dreaming every night that I explained earlier.
A book that will help immensely is "Atomic Habits", apart from all the great tips he gives, I believe the best trick for me was to change your identity by saying and thinking "I'm not a smoker" instead of "I'm trying to quit". thinking you aren't a smoker enforces habits that would lead to not being one ( weird sounding psychological trick but it does work).
Good luck to you with your endeavors, you can do this as long as you really want to. And don't beat yourself up if you ever falter, just pick yourself up and try again. 😀✌💙

i started smoking weed when i was fifteen, first few times were like weeks in-between but i started smoking almost every day (but never on my own so if i didnt meet up with friends i wouldn't smoke) and some days id be like dude im so bored of smoking weed i'm just not gonna smoke today and then by the end of the night i'd be asking who wants to share a bag. but i smoked every day without even worrying about the side effects because the stuff we were told in school was so unrealistic and extreme and uncommon and all long term side effects but that was never clarified, and we were never told about the more short term side effects. so when i just felt good every time i thought all that shit was bullshit and i smoked every day, it helped a lot with depression at first but then made anxiety a lot worse
then when i was seventeen i smoked weed on the comedown of my first ever shroom trip and i had a panic attack and i thought i wasn't breathing even though i was hyperventilating and i couldnt feel my body. eventually calmed down and stayed at my friends but after that the panic attacks would be every time i smoked but i learned to just breathe through it and relax because i knew what was happening but it wasn't really the same after that. it took me a long time to quit because all my friends were stoners and i actually stopped buying weed months and months before i properly quit and a few of the worst times i had it i seemed to like completely lose control of my inner speech and it was really scary and negative and almost like hearing voices but i'm not quite sure. some people in my family have schizophrenia and i've seen how hard it can be so then i really knew that i had to stop because that was really scary and other times i just felt so anxious and self conscious no matter what. so i quit smoking when i was eighteen/nineteen and didn't smoke at all for like two years or something, even being like in second hand smoke made me feel anxious as fuck i dont know if that was purely psychological or because i was actually getting high from the fumes
i didn't really notice any side effects when i properly quit because i was drinking a lot and taking other drugs so i was never sober long enough to realise. at that age being sober was like a novelty i could see the world so clearly i was like this is weird as fuck lol
nowadays i might have a few tokes at parties or whatever if i'm drinking but it's very rare that i would choose to smoke if i was sober. i kind of miss it but i think i miss more the social aspect of like hanging out and smoking and having a laugh than actually being high because i can't really remember what it feels like to enjoy that lol
this video was really interesting you guys are so funny and so lovely. binged all your vids on asapscience a bit ago coz ive been watching more and more youtube vids the longer lockdown goes on, and now i've got all these to watch !

Had the same thing but with acid, 2 or 3 years ago when I was interested in psychedelic's, I smoked a bong while on acid then got a panic attack for the first time in my life and was freaking out asking my girlfriend "AM I BREATHING??! I DON'T FEEL THAT I CAN BREATHE!". Would have happened like 2-3 times before I stopped doing any type of psychedelics as I hated that feeling.
A little bit more than a month ago I quit tobacco and reduced my weed consumption (used to be a heavy daily smoker for 8 years or so, an ounce a week). I went like 5 days without smoking weed as it was flooding where I lived and my dealer was flooded lmao, then when I got more buds I decided I would cut back and only smoke at 4:20pm (🤣) and was smoking WAAAY less and was getting high af, I could only have one bong per 1-2 hours and eventually I decided to try to have 2 bongs back to back as when I was smoking with tobacco before the tolerance break I would have like 3-5 bongs in a row (smh).
So I thought I could get away with having 2 small bongs in a row or just 1 big one with my lower tolerance? No, that was not the case lmao! Got a panic attack that reminded me of when I was on acid and it freaked me out a little bit, not fully cause It wasn't my first panic attack but still wasn't pleasant. Long story short I ended up getting another 1-2 panic attacks on different nights and just decided that it was time to quit.
I'm on day 9 since I decided to give it up cold turkey and it's honestly been so good. Only negative I have noticed so far has been the VERY apparent VIVID AF DREAMS and/or nightmares every night (only 2 nightmares, the rest of the dreams are just vivid af and weird). I been oversleeping as my sleep quality has been trash due to vivid dreaming pretty much the whole night every night.

Story time - I'm recovered addict of many a type of drug (Clean 10 years in October this year). I was highly dependent and a heavy user of the old MariJ. It was the last drug I came off and I can personally say yes there is withdrawal symptoms (Nowhere as harsh as most other chemicals) but the hardest thing about coming of it was how very available it was even here in Tasmania Australia where it is illegal. It took me a good couple years to not have any want for it and could be around other users. I think it’s a perfectly fine substance and have no problems with it BUT I'd advise against using it if you have addictive behavior or other psychological issues (I’m schizoaffective, so that didn’t help.)

Despite the fact that the very first time I got stoned was in mid 2019, at age 32, I don't think I've had a fully sober day since February. 😅
Granted, there's definitely a "perfect storm" aspect to my cannabis use...
I have bad psoriatic arthritis. My wife and I moved from Texas to Washington State in December of 2019. My new doctors here recommended it to lower my opiate needs. Then, pandemic. Which is a scenario I've been terrified of since my mid teens, exacerbated by the fact that my wife and I are immune suppressed with major risk factor co-morbidities. So I had to quit working, and we've basically spent 10 months broke af, trapped in the 300 ft^2 (almost 28 m^2) RV we live in.
So yeah. THC = watch youtube for 12 hours without hurting too much, instead of curling up in pain during a mental breakdown. Especially bc I'm 2/3 of the way through a biochem degree AND I'm an avid gardener and baker. Grow weed -> extract cannabinoids with everclear -> distill extraction -> make epic pot cookies -> stay sane AND keep up with my hobbies AND maintain my lab skills until I can safely transfer to a university here! With the side benefit of having a bunch of 95% ethanol around during a pandemic. Apparently, when hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes were straight up GONE in every store both online and off, I was one of the only people who thought to check liquor stores and then pop a spray nozzle on a bottle of 190 proof grain alcohol, bc there has NEVER been a hint of an everclear shortage on store shelves. 😂

the effects on memory for adolescents are so real. I started getting high on super potent shit when I was 14 and did it every day sometimes multiple times for two years. there are other factors at play for me cause of mental health which could contribute to my terrible memory but I mainly pin it on the weed use, havent been the same since. I've been pretty much sober for like a year or so now.

"cannabis is not bad because we already have natural cannabinoids" we also have natural opioids, doesnt mean we should do heroin. And some synthetic cannabinoids can have awful fatal effects. drugs work because they mess with something that we already have, its obvious.

The reason I must quit is coughing and I don't like edibles. I have 3 discs in my lumbar spine and here in Canada it is 3 level fusion and Artificial Discs are 50 to a 100 G's. Coughing was a pain generator for me. I am getting off pain meds too so started watching to know what withdrawals are what. Thanks Guys

@@daleputnam8300 omg! I'm sorry I missed this!! I made it to day 14 smoked for one day and now I'm back on the train (day 3) I'm trying not to be hard on myself. Humans have been using substances for so long.
Honestly. I've tried SO many times and the only way I make it through it by telling my partner that I want to take a break (and the only time I've gone more then a day or two was three months last year) I've definitely gone and gotten some while he has been working and he's been like what the hell? I thought you wanted to take a break.... 😅😅
I personally know I'm an addict. I've had issues with heroin in the past 😅 and have sought out treatment for that back in 2009 but never gave up cannabis. Now I see that I'm buffering because uncomfortable emotions are that. Uncomfortable... Oh and humans are creatures of habit. 😂😂
Have you tried to take a break/quit again? I've had a huge issue with saying I'm quitting because it's apart of me. I've been stoned more then I haven't in life (seems silly to be scared to let go of that side of me but I am 😅) so lately I keep telling myself. You don't have to quit forever. You're just reshaping this relationship and processing life. If in the future you decide to permanently quit. You can decide then.
It's been helping saying that. I have no idea your past , length of time you've been smoking or consumption levels so I can't say that would help but it has for me 🥰
I hope you make it to how ever many days you want to! I believe in you!!!

@@nkouwenhoven I'm about to send an essay to you as a reply so I thought I would say this at the start just in case you don't read it all lol. Bro if you were hooked on H, honestly in my opinion you are doing really well to just smoke weed as I'm assuming it would have been a super hard time to quit that and the fact you did quit, you should be really proud of yourself. That being said whenever you decide you wanna fully quit weed, I think you would for sure be able to after overcoming such a tough addiction previously and you seem to know yourself and are aware of certain mechanisms addiction plays on. Good luck on your journeys and don't be too hard on yourself 💙
      😁💙

The commentary at the end made my jaw hurt from trying not to burst out laughing my ass off at 6:30am alone chuckling LMAO great show. I want to learn more about Marijuana while doing exercise. A lot of people in the fitness industry seem to steer clear of talking about this (I personally have experimented on myself) and have only found trouble breathing recently because of the use of masks at Public gyms (not against masks just makes it harder when you're a chronic user because it literally feels like you're gasping for air in between heavy sets) and as far as running is concerned--i have known athletes in college (specifically sprinters) that have consumed cannabis recreationally after practice. And I don't feel this is discussed enough. Are there any benefits or non-benefits to consuming regular cannabis as an active person who's trying to not completely quit? I have tried everything from cutting back to quitting and so far it seems like quitting is the best but I love weed. And I need some scientific opinions. 😆🍃 I hope I can still smoke again but for now I'm not an edibles fan. I get too anxious and don't trust the dosage. I prefer to smoke. Thoughts?

Among you, have any of you tried using CBD and CBG tinctures in your support system to help limit the negative reactions of stopping smoking weed? I have experienced with myself that CBD helps me not be able to get high anymore, like I try to smoke a lot of marijuana but can't get high, and my body doesn't feel lethargic. That is also helping me in the process of quitting marijuana, and also helping me feel less angry than if I had not used CBD and CBG before. I'm in the 5 day process, after 5 years of smoking weed extremely heavily and everywhere.
