The big deciding factor price. The S24 Ultra is way more expensive considering everything the Pixel 8 Pro offers for less money. Most casual users don’t care about how powerful the processor is.

In the U. S., you can get samsung or pixel phone for basically free in either option by upgrading in which most people already have phones to be able to upgrade. Then if you go in as a family you definitely have deals you can get like 3 or 4 phones free and like $25 bucks a line for unlimited everything or whatever. So it's not like most folks even buy the phone out of pocket like that. They get credits.
So then it comes more down to what you prefer. I REALLY REAAALLY want to try pixel pro. It scares me though, because I hear issues about them in certain areas that are most important to me like battery life vs a samsung. The reasons I want it over a samsung though is I think the software still edges out of Samsung and the photos are waay better imo.
I also like how clean it is out the box compared to Samsung. You get UI updates sooner as well. I wish I could just use each for a week or two to get a feel for both. I'm leaning towards samsung still for stability reasons, but something tells me I may end up with a pixel sometime in the future.
If they can put all the Google software into the Samsung though and don't decide to charge money for that crap then I'd have little reason to switch outside the camera as, we'll, but as, of now it's still tough...

Samsung can learn from Google and Appple about how not to over expose and smooth every damn picture. The HW samsung uses is epic, but the SW processing is just very inconsistent. If they can fix it, then Samsung's Ultra line-up will be the phone to beat!

    • @kerrydaniels8460

Why can't they freaking get it right. Just copy Google. Google has the perfect camera processing of me. They are the closest to just being a natural looking photo as it would look to the actual eye. If I want to add all the ovsrsaturated BS then let me do that as a dumb edit instead of forcing it by default.

I've been dithering between Pixel 8 pro, the S24 and the new Oneplus12. Like loads of people.
Primarily, I want a phone with a great camera.
The Pixel 8 pro was getting the raspberry regarding it's battery but no-one seems to doubt the camera(s). Now the battery drain seems to have been fixed and the price has come down.
S24 is just too pricey unless you are loaded to the point that you'd buy a personalised number plate! So far, price hasn't dropped. Photos still don't look as good a the Google phone to my eye.
The OnePlus12 is between the two. Great spec, storage, cameras - but as a UK VAT registered business owner they mysteriously CHARGE VAT but you can't claim it back. What, really?! This makes the phone £200 more expensive for business users: annoying. Backchat online about poor service response on the OnePlus phone makes me nervous too.
For a reliable, vanilla Android experience I'm gradually selling myself the idea of the Pixel 8 pro. One must assume that banking apps, tap-payment and maps etc are going to work flawlessly. Gaming overheating is the very least of my concerns.

If having cutting edge performance and battery life with a stylus is very important to you, the SG S24U is your phone. But in my opinion, it's complete overkill for most people. I dislike the Galaxy's camera layout. Ugly to me. Google made choices to achieve a certain price point. But if you are not a phone gamer or extremely demanding user, the Pixel is a very appealing, unique product. I like it. I still feel that $1000+ for the 256GB P8P is overpriced. But there are deals out there. The Pixel 8 Pro has better sound, equal cameras if not better, and several very cool features.

I just bought the P8P (256gb) two days ago, and the software is top notch, but coming from an iPhone15 pro and the great build , i am having second thoughts because of the better build and display quality on the S24 ultra. I am having second thoughts about my purchase. I feel as though its a downgrade in build quality. I really like the clla screening in the P8P, and slightly better picture quality in some cases, but i am not sure its enough overlook the S24 ultra?

Yeah i had to leave my s23 ultra for the p8p purely on the camera colour accuracy
I could not get used to samsungs post processing. Heavily saturated colours even when settings turned off, scene optimiser and screen set to natural

also pixels AI features don't work out side of America
also no mention of the bad modems that pixel has since the pixel 6,drop calls weak 5g and WIFI signal
slow charging bad battery life and that annoying at a glance that you cannot get rid off
basically if you are staying out side of America the pixel has just good cameras nothing more
on the other hand Samsung has better CPU- GPU- modems -battery life- screen
and on top of that updates their phones much faster than the so called pure android experience
