I think apple production in China was underestimated in the past.Because before 2000, most Chinese(contain me) were farmers and they seldom bought any farm products in the market.We grow our own food、 fruit、vegetables, no one knows how many of these things there are, but now most Chinese don't work in agriculture and buy the fruit in the market, so it seems to have increased a lot (and of course it has actually increased).

In Turkey, we call apple: "Elma". From mass production to individual farming, apples in Turkey are very delicious, and cheap. I remember I bought a kg apple from an auntie who sells her own apples, I still remember how juicy and delicious it was. Paid one kg, around 0.25$

В Донецкой области тоже много садов было,особенно возле Амвросиевки. После 90-х все было брошено и сады заросли,яблоки еще растут но плоды мелкие-дичка.Зато много фруктовых грибов там растет.

To be clear, this is business Apple production. In the US, a good amount of homes have Apple trees, and often other fruit trees. Growing up, my urban neighborhood grew apples, pears, plumbs, watermelons, grapes, cherries, tomatos, peaches, nectarines, and rhubarb.

A China, EUA, Europa e outros países são doidos para terem nossas tecnologia nesse setor.
Se o governo federal fazer uma parceria com Israel, para que eles vendam a tecnologia para agricultura em deserto o nosso sertão irá vira um "mar de frutas, legumes e grãos" igual já acontece no vale do são francisco. ( Só que o vale do S.F ainda não tem essa tecnologia de Israel.)

Some countries like Canada and New Zealand have had many apple orchards converted to grape growing.
Not really. I live in Niagara (Southern Ontario) and our grape industry has been decimated by free trade. And apple orchards that I knew when I was young back in the 70s have all but disappeared. It's a crying shame what they've done to our agriculture.....a real shame!
