  • THE BAND WHO FELL TO EARTH
    “1984"
    Aisle 5 - Atlanta, GA
    June 2nd, 2024
This is an improved version of our second live promo, which includes newly remixed audio by Jonathan Campagna. We felt this one sounded fabulous enough to replace our initial release, so we hope you agree.
Our show opener, "1984", is a brand new song that came together very organically during rehearsals. The funky wah pedal inflected guitar line that carries much of the song was obviously influenced by the Isaac Hayes classic "Theme from Shaft". Musically, this song instant transports ones mind back to the mid Seventies, especially if they're just old enough to remember those times.
This footage really captures the energy of our refurbished band's live debut. Even on this very first song, our vocalist Christina Leidel projects complete confidence and provides a riveting focal point for the audience. This was a really grand looking introduction to our excellent 2-hour performance. (The original 1-minute show intro, not included here, was an excerpt from "Memory of a Free Festival")
Originally from David's post-apocalyptic concept album DIAMOND DOGS (1974), it would now seem to be an apt warning from the past about how an authoritarian government might seek to crush its opponents by destroying their culture. In this bleak future vision, the citizens are left to pine for past joys that are now considered reason, while seeking any solution that might take their minds off the hopelessness that pervades their current reality. This one was also covered by Tina Turner for her landmark PRIVATE DANCER album.
The light show transforms many sections into an almost psychedelic looking vision. There were no special effects or visuals added after the fact, as all of the segments you'll see here were straight from the original camera footage. I would warn anyone with epilepsy that there are some brief segments here with flashing lights. I'm very proud of this performance and also very pleased about how this video came out.
    The Band:
    Christina Leidel - lead vocals
    Allen Welty-Green - keyboards
    Rob Dwyer - lead guitar
Kath Fidler - string synth, backing vocals
Jeff Tyson - bass, backing vocals
    R. Alan Siler - drums
Video notes: The video is a compilation of 5 different sources including Rob’s Canon XA70 (4K) and Vixia RF H500, Alan’s Canon Vixia, iPhone, and Anton Samford shooting closeups with a DSLR camera. The audio mix combines multi-track soundboard recordings with one Tascam recorder in the audience (for the intro and outro). Audio mix was done by Jonathan Campagna with contributions from Allen WG. Video edit and final mastering by Rob Dwyer. [This version corrects an audio clipping issue that was found in my initial post]
