From WikiP: In 1985, Waters declared that Pink Floyd were "a spent force creatively" and attempted to dissolve the band. Gilmour and Mason announced that they intended to continue without him. Waters resigned in 1987, leaving Gilmour as the band leader.[38] In 1986, Gilmour purchased the houseboat Astoria, moored it on the River Thames near Hampton Court and transformed it into a recording studio.[39] He produced the Pink Floyd studio album A Momentary Lapse of Reason in 1987, with contributions from Mason and Wright.[30] He believed Pink Floyd had become too driven by lyrics under Waters' leadership, and attempted to "restore the balance" of music and lyrics.

The Fact is. That Watters wanted to get started on the next album after the wall. But Gilmour said we are rich. We do not need to work. And took off in his new super yacht. Then won the lawsuit to keep Floyds name and Waters songs.
For me, the only good albums are DSotM and the Wall. None of the othes seem to grab my attention much when I hear them. I wish this was not the case, but there you go.
Do you really believe that? Floyd were still great after Waters left but they never reached the heights they had in the 70s. Nor did Roger. Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall are recognised, rightly as amongst the very greatest albums ever recorded, in all of music history! Add in classics like Meddle and Animals and it's clear that this was their golden period. To say that Floyd got better after this period is simply untrue. They still had great moments but never touched those heights again.
As I looked at the comments below, some negative and some positive, I can relate to all of them. However, I am from that era from 1973 until 1980. Pink Floyd was a very dynamic Rock group. When I got into the earlier work from 1967 to 1972. I really enjoyed their music. Some Rock, some Psychedelic. It was also diverse. Like in the Meddle album, the track call San Tropez, which to me did not sound like Pink Floyd, but it was a great arranged song. I stopped listening to Pink Floyd after the Wall, but when they united without Roger Waters, They still had that sound. And Roger Water as a soloist, was also successful. All in all despite the difference in the end they are and still very dynamic.
A lot of faulty info here. The Gilmour/Wright partnership was neglected. Pink Floyd's first album without Waters sounded more Pink Floyd than Waters' first solo album. Wright was central to the Dark Side's compositions.
Gilmour is one of the greatest guitarist who has ever lived {in my top five}. But make no mistake, the band was never the same after Waters left {never as good}. Roger was the heart and soul of that band.

No mention is made of the fact that after Roger left the band, the remaining members -- led by Gilmour -- hired outside songwriters to write music for them that would sound 'Pink Floydian'; in other words, the soul of the music, which Roger Waters brought to the best PF albums after Syd drifted away into madness, was wholly gone, and the band had to go on without that anchor. I never bothered buying any PF albums after THE FINAL CUT -- which I've always considered an underrated masterpiece, no matter how much Gilmour denigrates it. Roger's solo works are not quite as good as his Pink Floyd-era works, because David DID supply a guitar sound that one could call the 'heart' of the band's sound, and one misses it's presence backing up Roger's lyrical genius and melodies. Dave Gilmour's guitar and singing voice have always been magnificent, but the Post-Waters PF era songs don't have the lyrical genius that Waters brought to the mix, nor the thematic artistry that made those classic albums the best 'concept' albums in Rock history.
That turned out to be a blessing in disguise. While Wright was willing to tour with the band, he insisted on getting paid straight up as a "hired hand". This meant that at the end of the tour, when everyone else had _lost_ money, he came out ahead.

A Gilmore fan made - Best Albums was with Waters - I say-it before and forever - also solo carier have al band member except Waters who dedicated fully to Pink Floyd band, the members has long time before Waters solo carier! After Pink Floyd Waters make great albums like Amused to death, Radio Chaos even a Opera Ça Ira. I love Pink Floyd and Waters also the late Pink Floyd - it is sad they can colaborate!
Both Gilmore and Waters are intellectuals and are highly intelligent. and due to this their creative differences were ultimately inevitable. there was no way the break up of the group wasn't going to happen. this is exactly what happened. despite what this stupid video says.
Waters left in the belief that the other band members would rush to call him back on their bare knees, please please Roger come back. This did not happen. Always dangerous, such a "va banque"-stance: you can win all or loose all.
Hello from Chicago , would you remember meeting up with a chap named Anthony aka Tony from Cuba ? We worked together at Ohare airport Always loved your music and he spoke of you mates often .. Take care ! Kent
My God this is pure ChatGPT word salad. Each "chapter" betrays a machine learning sedative "storytelling" ... move to 20:00 and after for more relevant content. IMHO. Then start skipping the repeats.
Waters never destroyed Pink Floyd. Gilmour did. With his deciding to continue with the band name. Gilmour, though a great guitarist, just didn't have the talent to continue with what made Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd. Making it even worse with the inclusion of his wife to write the lyrics. The last three albums under Gilmour just didn't measure up.
He did not destroy PF, he put out one more album after The Wall that none of you were interested in and then the band dissolved. Your solo career was not doing so well so you revived the brand, hired two of the original members and paid them like hired help and had songs written to sound like Pink Floyd. If The Final Cut was the last thing done by a group called Pink Floyd it would have ended on a dour and depressing note, but with the legacy intact.
Why? Seriously anyone that knows PF knows that Roger thought himself as Pink Floyd. He fired original member Wright during the Wall, and did not want any other member to get any credit for the album. Wright is not on the Final Cut thus Pink Floyd ceased to be. This entire video is nothing but looping and re-looping the same thing

My own re-reads include TLOTR, Jack of Shadows, and Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny, Glory Road by Robert A. Heinlein, City and Way Station by Clifford D. Simak as well as others that don't come to mind at this late hour.
Thank you for your good work! I intend to delve into your videos, which look really interesting!
Take care!
Roger wrote David gave soul.
David gave r-sole.
WoW!!!!! Thanks contributor!!! Now we finally know THE REAL REASON PINK FLOYD SPLIT UP
What crap. Don´t watch, it says nothing.
I was at Montreal Olympic Stadium n was spit on by Roger
A Gilmore fan made - Best Albums was with Waters - I say-it before and forever - also solo carier have al band member except Waters who dedicated fully to Pink Floyd band, the members has long time before Waters solo carier! After Pink Floyd Waters make great albums like Amused to death, Radio Chaos even a Opera Ça Ira. I love Pink Floyd and Waters also the late Pink Floyd - it is sad they can colaborate!
Wish You Were Here by Wyclef Jean? This is rubbish.
Roger Waters build Pink Floyd
Wtf is this. Just PF history we all already know. Not one single word from David himself. No, you're not going to catch me in a next video.
So it was DIFFERENCES that tore them apart! That's juicy!!!
click bait crab
Never be another Gilmore, or floyd the best rock band that ever played.
Both Gilmore and Waters are intellectuals and are highly intelligent. and due to this their creative differences were ultimately inevitable. there was no way the break up of the group wasn't going to happen.
this is exactly what happened. despite what this stupid video says.
Imagine PINK FLOYD without Roger Waters - no way
Waters left in the belief that the other band members would rush to call him back on their bare knees, please please Roger come back. This did not happen. Always dangerous, such a "va banque"-stance: you can win all or loose all.
Waters didn't need the other band members.
Hello from Chicago , would you remember meeting up with a chap named Anthony aka Tony from Cuba ? We worked together at Ohare airport
Always loved your music and he spoke of you mates often .. Take care !
Kent
My God this is pure ChatGPT word salad. Each "chapter" betrays a machine learning sedative "storytelling" ... move to 20:00 and after for more relevant content. IMHO. Then start skipping the repeats.
It was good dokument, thank you ❤
When Waters left the music went mainstream
I wanted to hear David talk about why or anything. But this has all been said before.
❤❤❤ Love Roger ❤️❤️❤️
Screw this
Roger is the man 🤘🏻✌🏻
I really like Rogers Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking
Why? Seriously anyone that knows PF knows that Roger thought himself as Pink Floyd. He fired original member Wright during the Wall, and did not want any other member to get any credit for the album. Wright is not on the Final Cut thus Pink Floyd ceased to be. This entire video is nothing but looping and re-looping the same thing
when Waters left , Pink Floyd lost 90 percent of quality
BS the whole 30min.
