I think it is shame that both 358/2 Days and Re: Coded have not had a True Remaster Treatment.
They both are in movie form only.
Days has the better story While Re: Coded the better gameplay.

You actually can adjust the AI of partners in Days from the configuration menu (where you can also adjust your camera controls). You can make them attack more, use magic more, control what they target, or even make them do next to nothing.

I do want to note, at the time of writing this being a year later, the reason why Xion likely retracts her wanting of Roxas to try and destroy kingdom hearts is likely due to not wanting to place him in harms way. As Riku mentions in the fight, and Axel also does when Roxas leaves, if Roxas returns with intent to destroy the organization's end goal it will only end bad for him seeing as; he would be fighting likely all remaining members, has to work his way back up through the castle where he could get ambushed at any point, if Roxas gets captured the Organization achieve their ultimate goal easily, if Roxas is actually destroyed Sora will never wake up, and on top of that they all must know how dangerous Xemnas is potentially. So I think the scene there makes sense in the context of realizing Roxas's methods were unhinged, volatile, irresponsible, and ultimately careless.

358 is such a great game. Yeah the gameplay is a chore, but at least it’s a bit more enjoyable than what Coded has to offer. And story wise, it’s one of the bests. I’m both a Roxas and Xion Stan’s. And I think that game has the best story for Roxas. His relationship with Xion makes it too emotional. He blamed everyone who had taken her away, and Riku and Saïx are responsible for demanding her existence to be erased. Roxas’ life became even more miserable up until the release of KH3. So glad he and Xion are able to return (Nomura confirmed that it was due to fan demands fun fact, and Roxas’s voice was the one speaking to Xion instead of Sora, and Xemnas was the one who triggered him to be release from Sora’s heart)

In hell it's more enjoyable than coded lmao. Days has an amazing story but whack gameplay. Coded has amazing gameplay but whack story. Overall we judge video games by how fun they are to play therefore coded is way better, better replay value, jam packed with content and a way easier to understand leveling and keyblade gameplay.

I'm one of the people who loves days a lot more but loves Coded's combat much more and I just can't agree that Coded's combat has nothing to offer. Both games have their own strength and weaknesses, but I really have to say that coded's combat is a lot smoother with how your basic attacks work so well with your deck commands. They feel like natural extentions of you combo and feel a lot less clunky than days' combat. However. Days' story makes me cry, and I agree, the chore like feeling of the gameplay just makes the story hit like a truck. You've worked so hard to see Roxas and co. see one more day, only for it to all come crashing down in a tragic mess towards the end. Coded's story could never live up to it.

It really speeds up panel setup, and allows for camera panning by flicking in directions on the bottom screen. Alternatively you can use an L/R control combo for camera movement.
I don't think the touchscreen camera controls are very good (should've been implemented like a mouse and not a joystick-y thing), but it works

If they ever remake 358 days (they won't) I would love to see them allowing you to play campaign mission with friends. Adding KH2 battle and control system (keeping panels of course) would massively improve gameplay (desperation moves need a rework though). I still think they should, at least, keep the daily estructure of starting at the castle, go into mission, cutscene with ice cream. Feeling like you are working for god knows what reason, doing chores everyday just waiting for your cutscene at twilight town with the gang adds a lot to the mood of the game and the relationship with Axel and Xion.

I'm also kinda surprised you didn't cover the Avatar menu, it's not much, but it's worth talking about. Even though I agree with most of your opinions I can't really agree with your opinions on the mini games. I feel like they are a good way to break up the traditional combat and add something new to the table. The turn-based combat is actually really fun to find out the different combinations and what works most efficiently. The side scroller and on rail stages are short and for the most port harmless and have a really satisfying skill ceiling for going back to get the best ranks. Also i always felt like the longer combo keyblades in days were better for stunning enemies multiple times.

Don't know if someone has already made this comment, but at 51:10 when a person telepathically or previously in memory pleads with Riku to stop Roxas, I always assumed and still presume that person to be Namine, even though I don't think its ever been clarified. Xion is the one that told Roxas to destroy Kingdom Hearts, its Diz and Namine are the ones actively trying to wake Sora up. If Roxas died or worse was captured by the Organization, Sora wouldn't be able to wake up, or at the least not without serious consequence.

I'd kill for a 358 remake. The combat teeters on very good. I think if you include extra missions where you play as the org members (with some set in the past for context and to play as the dead ones) and buffed the variety of spells to match the org member's, as well as let you summon nobodies, it would really round out the whole progression system. I'd also maybe change the levels to not be blocks but a slider that gives extra Hearts when you play underleveled.
The main thing hampering the game are a lot of bland missions that could be spiced up with different bonus objectives like you say, and poor enemy mechanics (like hit boxes and I frames). The game overall leans towards KH1 and is much heavier than 2 or later games, which I really appreciate. As long as a remake kept that feeling it could be REALLY good. And of course, when its new or if there's a PC port, mulitplayer would be a MASSIVE sell for it. So much so that I'd suggest redesigning all the worlds to be bigger and more connected/expansive like in KH3 to improve the exploration with friends.

Random thing about Re:CODED. You mention that the characters in the digital journal are all 0s and 1s, and thus there aren’t stakes in there. Not only that, but Donald and Goofy risk their lives for Data Sora “for some reason.” Space Paranoids in 2 was also just data, but I don’t think it would be argued that Tron, Sark, or the MCP in THAT game aren’t sentient beings, with Tron even having a heart (probably). The data Sora also most likely has a heart, and Dolan Duck and Goofy would definitely try and help him out too; not just because he’s a version or Sora but because he’s a living being. Could be jumpin the shark on this one, as you might mention what I said later in the video, but I’m at the 58 minute mark when writing this. The story of ReCODED is still superfluous fluff that sucks, but at least Data Sora is characterized way better than the actual Sora is post KH2.

    • @WhereIStandIsWhereIFall
      @WhereIStandIsWhereIFall  Год назад +1

I definitely agree thatData-Sora is better than post KH2 Sora. For your first point, I qould say the difference is that Troj isn't a copy of an existing person. He's a uniquely sentient entity whereas the data people in Coded are just copies.

    • @pikachufrankie
      @pikachufrankie Год назад +1

@@WhereIStandIsWhereIFall This is true. However, same could be argued for Riku Replica in COM, as he too is a copy of an existing person. I don’t think it’s that farfetched (in the context of KH) for the data Sora to not only have a heart, but be real enough of a person for Dolan Duck and Goober to risk their lives to save him. I will say though with 100% confidence that I think data Sora and Riku being their own people is completely garbage, and KH writing post 2 really goes out of its way to make as little sense as possible. If data Sora, something that’s literally just a computer reading a book has a heart, does literally everything have a heart? It’s dumb, and the end of DDD kind of doubled down on it for some reason.

    • @WhereIStandIsWhereIFall

    • @RazCrimson
      @RazCrimson Год назад +1

@@WhereIStandIsWhereIFall It's implied that the experiences of the digital Twilight Town gang reflect back on their original selves by how Hayner's group acts in KH3, and even in the backend of KH2 where they resolve their feelings about Roxas and go to the digital TT.
I think saying 'why do they care about these 0s and 1s' is missing a critical and consistent theme of the series. Constantly, its established that these Data versions of characters are roughly comparable to their original versions and reflect back on them, because hearts are connected across space and even data. Data Sora IS Sora, just a reflection of him, the same way Data Riku IS Riku is a way. Data Riku talking about his regrets and Data Sora comforting him is a moment that makes sense because of their history and bond and The Point is that even in data, these two have a strong bond. The question of what makes a person is core to Kingdom Hearts and constantly it reiterates that the answer to that question is the connections people share, that things like being a data being or not having a heart come second to that key factor.
So these Data characters exist to show characters in a new context, and also to drive how the themes of personhood running through the whole series.

1:03:25 That's not true. Birth by Sleep had dodge canceling, though I'm not sure if it has block or jump canceling since I haven't tested that. It doesn't allow you to cancel the endlag of your finishers, but it does allow you to do that for every other part of the base physical combo. As an extra aside, it's also not true that you couldn't use commands in Birth by Sleep as part of your physical combos, the implementation of that idea was just extremely limited, and really only served to allow the player to start their combos or end their combos earlier with a stronger than normal attack in most cases, and you're also overselling exactly how much the commands were integrated into the base physical combos in Re:Coded, since only certain Attack Commands were integrated into the combo system, and all the other commands in the game follow the same principle of being "combo finishers/starters" as the command decks in BBS and DDD.
There are definitely more "combo utility" commands in Re:Coded compared to the other two command deck titles, but aside from these select few like Aerial Sweep and its elemental variants, the commands were not integrated into the combo system in that exact way. Also, before I forget about this detail, unlike in BBS and DDD where you could say, do one normal hit, use Quick Blitz, and then use your ground combo finisher (though the timing to pull that off was VERY difficult to achieve in BBS from what I recall), using a command in the middle of your combo in Re:Coded resets the combo back to its starting point, regardless of what command was used, so you don't get to finish your initial combo if you use a command in the middle of it. The same is also true of dodge/block/jump cancelling your combo, because like in KH3, that resets your combo to zero and you have to start the combo over again from the top. In Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance however, when you dodge cancel after a hit, if you can make contact with another enemy after the dodge cancel and continue to use the physical combo attacks, you will continue the combo where you left off before the cancel, rather than having to start over from the beginning. What this basically means is that in BBS and DDD, you can do the first two hits of your three-hit base physical combo, dodge cancel after the second hit, and then when you attack again after the dodge cancel, provided that you're within range of an enemy, you'll perform your base combo finisher after your dodge has finished its animation.
See, this kind of thing is what I mean when I say to people that videos criticizing the handheld titles are almost always poorly researched. For all I know ReCoded could have been the first entry in the series to introduce jump-canceling and maybe block canceling too, but dodge canceling was originally introduced in Birth by Sleep, and most of the people who say that Re:Coded integrated the commands into the combo system are always wrong in that they're saying that with broad strokes instead of acknowledging that only certain commands function in the way they're describing.

The Roxas fight had a very good preceding cutscene. While the usage of the word "hurt" can be a little awkward, I think it's a profound message, and helps make the fight feel more impactful when you actually get into it, even if it rehashes a lot of KH2 elements. I definitely understand the Castle Oblivion critiques but for me the Roxas fight was a legitimate worthy finisher for the game and puts a nice little cap on the narrative and Sora's development.

I feel if 358 was just made for 1.5 and not even really change much, but graphics and controls it'd be a way funnier game. Now a whole ass remake would be better, but nope. Maybe one day we'll get Re:358/2 Days.
As for Recoded God awful story, but that's how I think a ds KH game should be made (minus the Hercules world.) I absolutely love the gameplay of Recoded. Just hate the story.
358 has amazing story and just kinda meh gameplay. Not bad, but could have been better.

BBS is the genesis point for all the crappy mechanics and half backed plot points that have infested the series since. Regardless Xehanort was and is a nucleus of value, just wished he was intro'd in the first three games (KH1, com, 2).

Days has better enemies...? excuse me but no, having 30 palette swaps in your game is not good enemy design
money in games is almost never explained, how boring would that be? i don't think more world-building is a bad idea, but in an action RPG, underexplaining the world is something i far prefer to being overexplained.

Idk if there was a disconnect, but I think I agreed with you on last half of these things, with boring enemies in Days and the minigames in Re:Coded. Correct me if I'm wrong because I could be completely misremembering.
On the money, it's almost never explained because it's usually self-explanatory. It's a gold coin that isn't called a gold coin; Gil, Florens, Krowns, etc. In KH, there isn't that baseline, it's pure video game logic, which I don't really like to accept. I do, because yes, it ultimately doesn't matter, but I also believe that if an explanation were given, it would enrich the world and make it more believable.
This is the hardcore fantasy buff in me talking, I know.

"Kingdom Hearts historically has bad worldbuilding, and this game helps to alleviate that"
_proceeds to complain about KH2's story not focusing on irrelevant details that have absolutely nothing to do with the story and would only serve to bog down the pacing if focused on, which is something that people already complain about_
I don't know why anyone would need to be told this because I think it's just common sense, but there's a fundamental difference between a story having bad worldbuilding and a story not focusing on specific (likely irrelevant) details of a world that you're more personally interested in. I would like for you to explain exactly why we need to be told or shown how Radiant Garden's economy works, why we need to be given an explanation for Munny being a universal currency across all worlds, etc, when those details are irrelevant and have nothing to do with the story, which is about the characters and their struggles, not the world itself, because you didn't do that here (not surprising after watching your abysmal Birth by Sleep "analysis") and unless you can do this successfully, your criticism that these games have "bad world building" are invalid.
I don't think you know what it means to make an argument...

Ngl, seeing you arguing with a bunch of people over pedantic details for the past few weeks has been absolutely hilarious. I don't know what you're trying to accomplish by negatively commenting because you're only helping me in the algorithm. If you think I care enough about a random guy on the internet to be deterred from writing and making these videos, then I have bad news for you.
I'm not even going to argue with you over this point of yours, because no matter what I say, valid or not, you will simply throw back into my face like a spoiled child that doesn't get their way.
Looking through your channel, you have produced almost no original or critical content, just gameplay bites, at least within the last three years. You're a self professed "19 year old teen who graduated high school and doesn't know what he wants to do with his life yet". So, who are you to tell me so rudely how I should write my analyses on a game franchise that most people don't even care about anymore? Does it really matter that much to you how I, a random guy on the internet, views Kingdom Hearts?
Tl;dr, you're very sad, and please keep commenting on all of my videos so I can get my daily dose of entertainment.

@@WhereIStandIsWhereIFall I haven't updated my RUclips bio in years, lol. I should probably fix that. I do RUclips occasionally for fun, not as some kind of career, but I have been thinking about making rebuttals for a while now, I just need to decide on a video to respond to where I can comfortably get my feet wet, so to speak.
I'm not trying to deter you from making videos. What I want is for you to make better videos with better arguments that provide constructive remedies to objective problems instead of just complaining about things based solely on personal preference. You don't have to care about what I say if you don't want to, but that doesn't change the fact your "critique" videos are objectively low quality and constantly conflate personal preference with objective quality. For all intents and purposes, not only are the overwhelming majority of your "criticisms" not valid, they don't have any value. They don't highlight real objective problems or provide solutions to them, they're just your preferences, which have been conflated (by you) with legitimate criticism. This is the reason why my comments are "negative", because your critique videos honestly just suck, in plain English. I expect significantly better arguments from someone who claims to be a critic.
The quality of your arguments matters to me for two reasons: First, as a matter of objective, incontrovertible fact, the truth is more important than our feelings. I care about figuring out what's true in order to improve the quality and nuance of my positions, broadening my understanding of the world around me so I can make better, more rational and empirical arguments, and in the case of this series, that allows me to not just improve my understanding of them, but also improve my ability to criticize them so that way they can be made better, or at the very least that their issues can be made more known and palatable to the average player. The second reason is that I've grown rather tired of pseudo-intellectuals and sophists slandering these games by creating what is functionally propaganda when they clearly have no basis for their beliefs (_cough cough_ bl00dybizkitz _cough cough_), resulting in cognitive dissonance, double standards and hypocrisy as the basis for their criticisms.
Compared to bl00dybizkitz you at least actually put a modicum of effort into your videos (kinda), but your videos are still poorly made and poorly argued. Your videos are only better than his because bl00dy's videos are the definition of laziness; he _knows_ that his audience won't question anything he says, so he's able to get away with not putting even a modicum of effort into his arguments (or rather, lack thereof). It's just one big echo chamber over there, and I'm tired of KH2 fans like them pretending that they're willing to have a discussion when they're obviously not open to the possibility that they could be wrong.
Tangent aside, my point is that I think these kinds of discussions are invaluable for discourse surrounding the series, as intellectual discussions regarding the quality of these games.. well, they don't exist. If you make better arguments that conform to reality, you'll be able to provide much better, more productive criticisms than you have been. I've probably said this before, but I don't much care for liars and bad actors, especially when they (not you in this case) are held up on pedestals as these "amazing critics" when they clearly don't know the first thing about how to critique something on its own merits.
If you want to keep making bad critique videos, that's fine, but I'm still going to criticize you and explain why I think you're wrong as I deem appropriate or necessary. Just because this video is a reflection of your views on 358 and Re:Coded, that doesn't mean that those views cannot be criticized. You can (and usually are) wrong about these games, especially Birth by Sleep, which again, I don't really like or enjoy playing.
P.S I would hardly describe what I've done as "arguing over pedantic details". It's important to be accurate in our assessments, and it's not that I would "throw any 'valid' arguments back in your face and throw a temper tantrum (though that's funny coming from you; talk about projection), I simply only accept arguments that conform with reality, and almost nothing in the videos from you that I've seen so far have provided those kinds of arguments, especially in the Birth by Sleep video, where you were deliberately uncharitable to the game because you were biased against it and simply wanted to tear it down instead of actually analyzing it. I don't even LIKE Birth by Sleep that much, it's one of my least favorites in the series, and yet that video caused me to lose many a brain cell, which should honestly speak to how low quality that "critique" was.
It isn't my fault that most of your arguments are bad and not worth being considered legitimate and valid criticisms of these games. You just need to improve your critical faculties and analytical skills, and in turn improve the quality of your arguments. With how much I don't like Birth by Sleep, I have no reason to reject any valid critiques of the game that conform to reality, since I have no reason to prioritize how I feel about the game over what's true about it. Just make better arguments next time and maybe you'll convince me that a number of things are true.

@@boyishdude1234 what about his argument wasn't based in reality? You make that claim over and over, and yet it is never backed by your posts, simply your claim that it "made you lose many a brain cell." Which is personal opinion to the utmost. I loved bbs, so I inherently disagree with the bbs video, but his argument was based on the game and what was contained within it.

@@Mwolf55 Do you really expect me to debunk his entire video in a series of RUclips comments? I'm not here to write 300+ page encyclopedias.
I for one do not see the need to respond to him any more than I already did earlier this year. That would be a waste of time and energy, and besides, Sight Avery is obviously biased and his own comments in response to other people on his videos has shown that he's not particularly capable of taking criticism. Everything that I could say about his points would fall on deaf ears, even if I completely debunked all of his points. It's best to avoid dealing with trolls where possible.
If your basis for "disagreeing" with his BBS video is that you enjoyed the game and not that there was anything wrong with the arguments he presented against the game, then you're just biased in favor of the game, which precludes you from having a sound reason to disagree with others about the game because you're deciding what you believe based on your emotions rather than what's actually true. Don't get it twisted, though. While I think BBS is a very flawed game objectively speaking, I've yet to come across a reasonably high quality video critiquing it, and that's not for a lack of trying. Most of the people on RUclips who make "critique" content are self-taught hacks who don't understand objectivity and subjectivity very well. I don't think Sight Avery's BBS video was a good critique of the game.
