I love this game's story so much. But a lot goes wrong when you try to tie it into Kingdom Hearts. Not that I don't like the story of Kingdom Hearts, I just think 358/2 Ice Creams would have been a better standalone story. But then you kinda realize that the story couldn't really work without the games that came before it. Well, damn.

And the weird thing is that when you compare Kairi's KH1 model with Xions model, they don't even look that similar. So Namine's explanation kind of fails too.

3:55 okay, just a quick explanation for this one: when she says she can't use her Keyblade, what she means is that she can't SUMMON it. Keyblade wielders can use other people's keyblades (Sora used Riku's briefly in the final fight against xemnas, and Riku used Roxas' Oblivion Keyblade in their fight). Xion is trying to get the feel of wielding a Keyblade again in hopes of jumpstarting her ability to materialize one.

Well... yeah. Remember at the beginning of KH2 when Leon mentions that they JUST remembered Sora? That applied to all the Disney Worlds too, Namine DID affect the memories of all those characters.

God, I fucking LOVE Riku in this game. The conversation with Mickey in the woods, his badass look, his fight with Roxas later on...he's my favourite character through and through.
Roxas should've been doing what Xion was doing throughout the plot. Finding out who he is. Instead he basically did nothing until the end when he decides to do what he should've been doing the entire game.
I'm trying to find it but I remember reading that during the creative development rough draft she wasn't part of it.
Why the hell would he care about we're he came from when he has Axel and Xion. It doesn't matter as long as he can't eat I've cream with his friends at the end of the day. When that falls apart, he looks to find answers.

358/2 Days can work as a standalone the same way a good solo Marvel movie can. Seeing the others makes a huge difference, but you can enjoy the movie itself without it. I've seen people talk about how it was their first KH game and how it got them into the series, and I think it actually works well that way: Xion's arc is/was a self-contained story by design, there's enough other stuff alluded to in just enough detail to give people a general idea of what else is happening, and Roxas is probably the most compelling player character in the series. I love Sora and the rest, but Roxas has to deal with the nature of his existence, losing almost all of his friends, and last but not least has been fleshed out more than a lot of them (he's only surpassed by Sora and Riku in game appearances, so that helps).
Who DOESN'T lose their friends at some point in this damned game series??
It'd be easier to bring up the number of characters not going to civil war with each other or being left behind.
catkaboodle Roxas is by far my favorite character in the series, and although 358/2 wasn’t my first kingdom hearts game, it was the game that got me invested in the series, mostly cause I only played the first one for the Disney world’s as a kid and forgot about it entirely afterwards...

This WAS my first KH game and I loved it, story and all. Roxas, Axel, And Yes, Even Xion, ESPECIALLY XION, are some of my favorite characters in the series and I am so hoping Xion comes back with Roxas in KH3! Also, if any person wants to hate on Xion, to ADD to her character, check out the KH 358/2 Days Manga. GREAT FREAKING MANGA. Selves into characters in the like while telling the same story, and plus, because of the art style, XION IS FREAKING CUTE!
My first KH game too. I really sympathized with Roxas about how confusing this whole universe is.
At the time, I made the naive assumption that playing the other games would clear everything up...never have i been so wrong.
About Sin no.71, the literal translation is actually, "We're going to have an ice cream again. Together!".
So the narm is actually the Squeenix's fault.

The writer really loved it and worked it into KH2 and now it has to be around when Twilight Town is.

That's kind of it, because Roxas and company spend their spare time in Twilight Town, and that ice cream is around there and a fixture in their . . . well, friendship for lack of a better term. It's literally one of the few things they actually have to share which isn't work. Sitting on the clock tower, eating ice cream.
Well, aside from all three of them have a frigging ton of secrets which can't be talked about openly and leave Roxas locked out of half of what's really going on until far . . . FAR . . . too late.

The "Do what I wanna do" Channel Hell yeah it was easy. It was just a hit and run tactic like the second form, except it's more like "hit and glide towards her shoulder" and I actually liked that boss battle.

It kinda sucks cause I think my original assumption made his otherwise stupid catchphrase kinda neat.

The reason Roxas is concerned with having ice cream with Xion when she dies is eating ice cream IS friendship to him. Axel told him that friends eat ice cream together and laugh at the stupidest things. It was their regular routine, so he associated ice cream with the fact that they're friends. It's not that he cares more about creamy delights than her life, it's a symbolic way of saying he doesn't know how to go on without his friend. I used to think it was a stupid line too and it's commonly misinterpreted, so don't worry about it. My sister's friend still constantly makes fun of it XD

Also, i know it is complicated, but the reason no one will be able to remember Xion when she dies is because her existence is built on memories and she is giving those away to be put into someone else.
Think of memories like a chain, linking to other links, and to other people. Xion, a being who was built out of memories (links of someone elses chain) is destroyed and all her memories and Soras memories go back to Sora, the links connected to Xion by other people now are connected to nothing, and she is forgotten. This is different from character death because the person who dies memories arent being dismantled and put into someone else. So the chain to that persons existence still exist even though they died. But Xion is giving hers and Soras away to another being, thus breaking the chain connecting to her. Namine is right, there wont be any 'her' left for other peoples chains to connect to. When i first played the game i always thought this couldve been stopped by putting Xion and Roxas to sleep too and untangling everyones memories and putting them where they need to be. Namine even says something similar to this is the game when she talks to Riku. But she says that would take even more time and that DiZ would never allow it. He wouldnt care about the death of a puppet to achieve his ends. ANd wouldnt allow Sora to remain asleep for that long because he wants his revenge. Which makes me really HATE DiZ even more cause none of them HAD to go back to Sora.
So like anything people forget, or unknowingly forget, we try to fill that blank space in our memory. Thats why in KH 2, Roxas memories we are shown are kinda vague. Especially his battle with Riku. We arent shown why he was fighting him, why he was in that area of TWTNW, what he was planning to do or anything. Because the memories that we see of his conversation in 358/2 days with Riku about Xion are gone, and he is left to fill in the blanks, like we are.

I know this is parody, but you talk about Saïx's memories not having meaning to him because he is a Nobody. However, Saïx himself mentions that he has memories of his past, and that's what keeps him going as a Nobody. His memories with Lea are very powerful, so seeing those memories get replaced makes up the gut of his character. He wants Axel back in his life.

Okay all the complaints about Sora not being the "only" keyblade wielder are irrelevant, in the first game it was never strictly implied that there is only "one" keyblade (the ending with Mickey pretty much showed that) and the rules regarding the keyblade didn't start to get revealed until Birth by Sleep, back then we knew NOTHING about the keyblades history and secrets, only subtle hints, it was at that point in the story that the keyblade wielders were only STARTING to return after being almost wiped out in the war long ago.
Right plus I always thought sense Ventus was healing in Sora's heart thats why Sora can wield a Keyblade. Which brings us to Roxas since he was a product of Sora's nobody he gains that ability as well and since Xion was made from his memories that is also why she can wield one. But please correct me if I'm wrong because im basing these from what evidence I got
False, considering evey single dialogue and text reports only one key or one wielder. If you can find a single point where they name another wielder that is not riku maybe you are telling the truth, but you aren't, I can guarantee. Moreover, in the final mix mickey said to riku "I have the other keyblade", that means they are basically two, sora's and mickey's. Key blade and anti key blade, that's all you have.
The one built from princesses is never explained and it is like a fake only to give riku a blade.

The Keyblade of Hearts _is_ a genuine Keyblade, forged from the hearts of all 7 pure lights. Ansem needed it to complete Hollow Bastion's keyhole, since it had fallen to darkness 9 years prior.
Xion wasn't introduced as one of the keyblade's chosen. Roxas was. Xemnas' comment was made when Roxas had a flashback to when he joined the Organization. [-2]
On sin 18, we have not seen time and time over that's not true. [-1]
What is the logic of sin 22? Xion's keyblade and Roxas' keyblade are two different weapons. Being able to wield Roxas' keyblade doesn't have anything to do with her ability to wield her own. [-1]

For sin 40, being a nobody actually means Saix would put more stock in the past than normal people because it's all he has to hold onto as far as emotions and bonds are concerned. [-1]
Memories are selective because they're chained to the people in question. Only people who Sora has forgotten about have forgotten about Sora. Sora's memories of Riku were only a little affected so Riku still remembers him for the most part. And nobody in the Organization have ever met Sora, bar Xemnas one time, so Sora has no memories between them for them to forget. The fact that they're nobodies also might have something to do with it. [-2]
Sin 47: Somebody needs to play Dream Drop Distance. [-1]
The Organization had Axel report back what happened in Castle Oblivion which is how they know Sora's asleep. DiZ, Riku and Namine also moved Sora during his sleep to Twilight Town, hiding him so the Organization wouldn't know where he is. [-1]
Xion is by nature a replica that actively draws power from the one she's replicating, not a replica made of already replicated data like Repliku. The entire point of Xion's project being a failure was _because_ she was absorbing Roxas' power instead of copying it. [-1]
Xion was trying to get Roxas to kill her. She was fighting him to make him kill her, hence why she says "this was my choice". That's how Roxas beat her [-1]
Xion just said that the memories themselves still exist and hence still matter, ergo the events of this game are still relevant. So she definitely doesn't mean nothing. [-1]

I mean, even then it's fair to bring up stuff he messed up on. Some of the stuff doesn't even logically make sense to be a sin. Like the irony joke about forgetting Xemnas's name. Like how is that a sin? Maybe if you thought it was a shameless call to KH2, but that's kinda stretching the "sin" aspect.

3:55 Because the keyblade can be summoned as a physical object. Unless you do whatever Riku pulled in KH1, you can't 'steal' someone's keyblade, because they can just resummon it to themselves. We've been shown a number of times (Jack Sparrow, Xion) that someone can 'wield' a keyblade by holding it as a weapon, but that doesn't mean that they can 'wield' a keyblade in terms of summoning it and use it in certain keyblade-y ways.

The reason Xion can’t do solo missions is in case she gets an obtain hearts mission. She and the rest of the org thinks the keyblade does need to be used to release the hearts, so if she went on her own to try to get some she just couldn’t

We're supposed to see this as Xion just taking off her hood in between cuts the first time and as foreshadowing after that. I had to be told outright that Xion was seen differently through other people's eyes before I got it because I just thought that she kept her hood on all the time.

For being someone who understands that characters tend to say things meant to be symbolic, you sure didn't categorize Roxas's "who else am I going to have icecream with?" as part of that.
I mean the clock tower and eating ice cream up there is pretty much the place Roxas calls home and most likely the most important place for him since that's where he would be with his friends.
So yeah, while it's a huge highlight of what they do, it's more because that's the place they can be themselves and be happy outside of the Organization so that's why doing that is important to Roxas, it's not because eating ice cream is what he cares about the most. It would be like saying that eating popcorn is the focus of you and your friends enjoying a movie.

Uh, the line that Xemnas actually said was "ONE of the keyblades chosen" and that was flashback dialogue referring strictly to Roxas himself, it wasn't revealed to Roxas that Xion was a keyblade wielder until she directly showed him.

My guess as to why Axel says what he does regarding sorting out his feelings: He bit it during his mission in Castle Oblivion (because 358 and COM take place at around the same time) and the Axel we're seeing now is actually Lea. Something that he manages to keep hidden from the other Organization members.
That or he's just being metaphorical. I'm not sure, actually.

This was the first game to ever make me cry. Although confusing, as for character development and emotion, I think this and BBS are the best Kingdom Hearts games in terms of story. And for a DS games, it's still impressive, though Re:coded did gameplay better in almost every way.
I have to note only one thing wrong. when Roxas notes he didn't know Xion could use the keyblade, you mention that she was introduced as 'one of the Keyblade's chosen'. I always considered, since the flashback to Roxas' introduction to XIII happens as that line starts, I always associated 'one of the keyblade's chosen' with Roxas' introduction, not Xion's.

Being the only kingdom hearts game I completed I hate how only a small amount of the cutscenes actually count as cutscenes.
Most of the dialogue is just in text bubbles which you can't go back and read after completion.

And Sora, Riku, DiZ and Mickey (especially Mickey) have all mentioned how Xemnas looks like "fake Ansem" (Xehanort).
However, Mickey and DiZ never met Terra, Sora saw him once talking to Riku when he was four, and Riku was 5 when he met Terra and probably did not recognize Xemnas as "someone familiar".
If he ever did get a feeling that Xemnas looked familiar, he probably thought it was because he met the Heartless "Ansem".

Xigbar knows that Master Xehanort took Terra's body to become Terra-Xehanort, who later became known as Apprentice Xehanort, and he knows that Xemnas is Apprentice Xehanort's Nobody.
Xaldin, Vexen, Lexaeus, and Zexion all know that Xemnas is Apprentice Xehanort's Nobody AND they know the Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, is Xehanort's Heartless.
Xemnas and Xigbar both know that Roxas looks like Ventus. The only reason Xigbar made a big deal out of Xion is because Xion looked like a black-haired Kairi to him most of the time, but as soon she began absorbing a lot of Roxas' powers, she took on Ventus' appearance right before his eyes.

Lets not forget, this game came out before Birth By Sleep. And in Dream Drop Distance they mention that all the members who's eyes are gold have been taken over by Xehanort prime, with that, it can be argued that Xigbar knows about Xemnas is because he too is Xehanort. But again, this game came out before BBS and KH 3D. And it still doesn't explain as to why he was triggered by Xion and never once by Roxas or Xemnas.

Xigbar doesn't get triggered. He knows Xemnas is Xehanort with Terra's body, he's known that since day one. In fact, he looked out for Xehanort until he got his memories back. He knows Roxas looks like Ven (Roxas is NOT Ven's Nobody, maybe you did need to replay the games or brush up on what a Nobody is). Roxas has Ven's heart and thus looks like Ven, and this is something Xemnas and Xigbar both ponder upon, although not stated out lout cause a) Ven was BBS, which was 2010 & b) the others don't remember him

The reason Xion fought Roxas at the end is because Xemnas "programmed" her to fight him. The idea was for her to destroy him and absorb the rest of his power...or be destroyed and give back all the power she took from him.

To answer your question about the Keyblade. It's not a blunt Weapon, it's a Glorified Axe/Halibert. It's kinda funny to think about when you look at the handle, but the design of the key part of the keyblade, is no different than how an axe or certain polearms are set up. Only real difference is that it's weirdly held like a sword again due to the handle.
Long Story Short, The Tooth of the key is the actual sharp part of the weapon much like actual Pole Arms and Axes.
About Sin number 72 (the ice cream one), Axel did tell Roxas that best friends are the ones that share ice cream, so he's basically saying "Who will be my best friend?".
9:01- Sora did gain Roxas's memories at the end of Dream Drop Distance, in the dream sequence; at least, that's what I believe is happening.
