Confused Nex i would too if i wanted to try to get deep into kindom hearts lore, i mean i know the games story in order but its very inconsistent with its lore. kingdom hearts is an awesome game but it can be confusing.
I agree 100% with you. I'm a huge kingdom hearts nerd my self. I love the series but sad to say i have to shut my brain off when it comes to some plot points and story elements haha.

Which makes no sense to me tbh, everything in his character was consistent, even the half Xehanort thing that was foreshadowed in BBS when the camera zoomed to his eyes showing he had yellow eyes instead of brown eyes he had earlier in the game (even Saix because he had blue eyes in BBS) but the Luxu thing felt like asspull more than anything in KH3 just like everything related to the "new" organization and the keyblade graveyard in KH3.

In defense of the "growing back hearts" plot point. In CoM we learn that memories are apparently stored in the heart... and later we find that Nobodies fake their emotions by just mimicking what they remember...
There has to be *some* sort of replacement, the hints have always been there.
**Edit:** There's also the scene where Axel lets Namine go for the sheer drama, and realizes "Hey wait, I'm _enjoying_ this! You guys [meaning Sora, Donald, Goofy] really _are_ something else..." - in ReCoM he specifically puts a hand to his chest at this, literally feeling his heart sirring.

so basicly a nobody will eventually manifest a heart based on it's memories like growing a tree from a clipped branch similar just not the same or if both heartless and nobody are destroyed then both halves become one … or in sora's case the half become a new whole and now sora is 2 or 2 1/2 if you count ventus

Scion of Belias It'll be really weird to see Kairi have some serious fights (IF she's gonna have them). Then again, that's probably not even in half as forced as Lea having a Keyblade - I can bet my life on that Tetsuya did that just because Axel is a very popular and liked character across the fans.

in the character-entrys of recoded,i think namine was explained as "kairis nobody" before kairis entry xD that is how cruel games can be. but well,at least she got some screen-time and references.....but not in 3d except for like a splitsecond or a second
How could you miss 2 major things?
1) Remember the cutscene just at the beginning of Fantasia world? In the said cutscene Sora literally just stands and waits a few seconds so a Dream Eater (the Spellican) can hit him!
2) Mickey used STOPZA to stop the time and, basically, one of the top strongest beings in the entire KH universe with it. Yet, he or Sora, or ANYONE never used it against other opponents. And when you do it yourself against bosses - it doesn't work on them.

I remember grinding Riku up 20 levels to 60 something because of the final boss. It was so stupid.
And I never used balloon because I thought "that has to be the most useless sounding spell I've ever heard."
This game does a piss poor job explaining why Sora failed the exam. Yeah, you're right about how Sora and Riku should be keyblade masters at this point.
DarthSquidward eh considering his past Riku could probably stand to use a little proper training and testing just to cement his control over the darkness, sora on the other hand has done shit even the damn grand masters themselves couldn't and just keeps getting plot convenience reasons to get de powered and turned into a rookie over and over.

Joe Green His heart is mostly untainted light. There's still some in it but he's never actually had to face an instance of darkness attacking his heart directly (unless you count that, becoming a Heartless thing). He "failed" because his heart has no natural resistance to darkness whereas Riku, who's been bathing in the stuff, has a heart of mostly light that can resist darkness easily.

one thing I don't understand is why make it a mark of mastery in the first place? why not just tell them "I have a task for both of you, there is a hidden power that will give both of you power to wake sleeping beings. Go now." I wouldn't see them saying no in any way
I mean, really?
Like, I GET the idea behind the laws of time.
"You must have a self both at source and at destination" - i.e. you can't go into the far, far future or the far, far past and learn plot points and see things you'd never be able to otherwise. You have to stay within the confines of your own lifetime.
"Once you travel back, you can only move forward as per the laws of time" - i.e. no Groundhog Day. No constantly rewinding the same period of time over and over until you get whatever result you want.
"You can't rewrite events destined to happen." - i.e. Xehanort can't go back in time and like, kill Sora and Riku's parents to assure they're never born.
It makes sense, it's just implemented in the most awkward, ridiculous and obtuse way possible.
Then Sora breaks all of this and somehow ends up into not Shibuya

I love how Yensid explains to them the complex concept of time travel in Kingdom Hearts, while in the 2nd game Merlin just summoned a door in Disney castle that let Sora, Donald, and Goofy travel to the past, and Pete himself had a door to the past too, which he used to change events in the past. Tetsuya Nomura needs to take some notes from Eiichiro Oda about long ass never ending stories.
He did eventually give him shit according to kh3 though
26:38 - You know, ever since 358 and KHII, I'd had this theory that the reason Roxas, Axel, and Xion were able to feel emotion was simply a case of consistent proximity to the Keyblade, like the Keyblade - as a tool intended to be used by those with hearts - was giving them the capacity for emotion like a pseudo-heart. Honestly, I still like that explanation better than the one we got.
There was also Saix's explanation in KHII. "We don't have hearts, but we remember what it feels like. That's what makes us special." I would have preferred if the game had stay with this route instead of what we got.

No, I was perfectly fine with his character until this gae with its time travel BS, but that's not the fault of this character, that's the fault of the series as a whole. Yen Sid on the other hand is supposed to be a good guy but does very questionable things that make him seem like anything but.
xehanort is just a poser xD ansem,SOD is the real mastermind and xehanort just gets the fame because he is the reason terranort existed.....even tho that was a complete fail xD(what xehanort planned:to use terras body. what happened: a struggle over the controll,leading to the body not knowing who he is. xehanort got the controll for a short time,but when he tried to seal terra away,he also sealed himself,turning the body that has the identity-crisis into its own being who turns into ansem and xemnas.....gg,xehanort :/ you ALWAYS get everything right and you ALWAYS plan everything....yeah,yeah :/)

I think "The Grid" is the original version of Tron's world, because in KHII, Tron mentions how Ansem copied the program over. It still doesn't explain how Rinzler seemed to know Sora.

You didn't sin the fact that Sora spent the entirety of The Grid trying to turn Tron back to normal, only to leave right after CLU says he's going to change him into Rinzler again.
Actually, Xemnas explains that Ansem The Wise *copied* the original Space Paranoids, and pasted in his computer. The Original Space Paranoids changed to The Grid, and fell in darkness, while Ansem's Space Paranoids stayed the same.

I assume Axel/Lea, since he wanted to become a Keyblader (from out of nowhere) decided his best shot was going straight to king Kickey, since he knew the King could wield a Keyblade and was definitely has been around longer than Sora or Riku. His happening across Maleficient's kidnapping plot was likely a timely coincidence.
Sad to say, you're right. After 0.2 Birth By Sleep, we see Yen Sid telling Sora to head to Olympus Colosseum to train because he had not mastered "the Power of Waking" during Dream Drop Distance, as a rwsult of falling into Xehanort's clutches. Total boosh, I know, but that's how they're brushing it off.
Apparently, Nomura wanted a Fantasia World as early as the very *first* Kingdom Hearts game; that's why Chernabog was a boss in KH1. He just wasn't able to work it in until now.
Time travel is more messed up than that. By moving back in time, you are essentially arriving in a time and place that you were never supposed to be. Ergo, by just *being* there, you are basically already rewriting events. Or, yeah, as you say, were they supposed to already be there in the first place? It's really silly.

Square is playing an intricate game with us, one where they throw their names at our faces in the exact same order time and again ONLY to sneak a sequence breaker so sneaky most didn't even notice. It's official: KH's plot is only a mess because they want it to be...
Mickie's reference to Ventus' heart falling asleep is one of the only consistent nods to past events I've seen in these games.
Also 33:06, I don't know which one would I call an Arse-pull, Kiri getting a X-Blade, Sonic using Chaos Control even though he never even attempted to do it before, or this guy who's never gonna die who also suddenly got a X-Blade; and if that's the case, anyone can wiled a X-Blade; HECK, MAYBE I CAN WIELD A X-BLADE!!!
I'd say that third option. I'm also willing to bet that Xehnort will come back after Kingdom Hearts 3, because we haven't had enough of the bastard already. :/

KH has become crazier and crazier with each chapter, as simple as that. I mean, it has always been freaky, but since Chain of Memories came out it has become a complete mess. What really makes me mad is that it pretends to have this very deep and convoluted plot, whereas it actually is just nonsensical and badly written. Nomura has become the Steven Moffat of videogames.
Plus, what's with his infatuation with Xehanort? I mean, of course every writer loves his creations, but Xehanort is not a great villain, he is a semi-decent villain at best. He is very one-dimensional and he's getting more and more boring as the story progresses. At least In his first incarnation, when he was simply "Ansem", he was an avatar of evil, some sort of incarnate devil devoured by darkness; that made him quite scary, and you don't need a personality when you are a scary and irrational demonic monster bent on destructing the universe. But then he was blatantly ret-conned to have this incredibly complex decades-long master plan which makes no sense at all, so now he is still one-dimensional but he's not even scary anymore. He basically became a lousy rip-off of Darth Sidious, the only difference is that Xehanort pops up from nothing every five minutes blabbering about darkness and hearts and nobodies and dreams and memories and gobbledygook, supposedly instilling curiosity and fear in the gamer. It may have worked the first time, perhaps, but at the 27th or so it's just annoying. Yet Nomura loves this dull mess of a character so much that he makes thirteen, I mean THIRTEEN versions of him. What would I give to have Maleficent back as the main villain... Bah.
Doesn't matter, fans will still buy the games 'cause they want to see Sora involved in bland and inconsequential subplots in Disney worlds. As long as people buy it, why change the way you do it?

There actually were plans to put Toy Story into Kingdom Hearts. First it was originally going to get its own world in KH1 then Woody & Buzz were supposed to appear as summons in KH2 Final Mix.
Plus, Star Wars was among the worlds that would've been featured in a cancelled mobile game called Fragmented Keys, alongside movies like Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph and Frozen.
and i keep hearing about them promising pixar worlds/characters, but we have proof they tried only twice. conglaturation, square. this is half of why i don't play KH.
I could totally imagine a Star Wars "world" working similarly to the original Monstro world and the Stitch world from BBS.
Sora and co. riding in the Gummi Ship, only to get trapped in a tractor beam shot by a Star Destroyer.
You'd then be taken to the Death Star for questioning, where you would escape, but have to fight Darth Vader while escaping the Storm Troopers.
On your way out, you'd be assisting Han, Luke and Obi Wan in rescuing Princess Leia.
You'd leave in the Gummi Ship, and would have to return to the Death Star (Star Wars world) later.
The Emperor would be the cause of the Heartless in the "world", and the debate and mental battle that Sora would go through, is whether or not Vader could be redeemed.
Final boss battle, would be playing as the Gummi Ship, working with the Rebels and the Millennium Falcon to destroy the Death star.

Sleeping worlds are like a VHS tape repeating the same scene over and over again. They're "sleeping worlds", so until Sora and Riku free them, they're replaying phantoms of past events repeatedly.
That's why Donald is cowardly and Goofy's dumb. They're phantoms of past Donald and Goofy, way before they underwent the character growth to become the people they are now.

For Lea arriving to Disney Castle, wasn't the Corner Stone of Light in KHII preventing EVERYONE to enter that world by dark paths? Because, it was established it was IMPOSSIBLE to reach DIsney Castle for creatures of darkness and people with dark powers. Assuming it had lost a bit of power from past adventures, this is a big never-explained hole-plot.
Glad I'm not the only one who abhors 3D's story. It's confusing, filled w/ contradictions left and right, and the scene where Y. Xehanort showed Sora Sora's past and the time travel schpeel don't make any damn sense!

Easy. Sora didn't become a master for the same reason Terra didn't. Sora was put to sleep through no fault of his own and Terra awakened some darkness but didn't use it.

These tests are so inconsistent and terrible it isn't even funny. They don't standardize them so that their hearts can properly be tested without risk and are rather stupid. What's the point of taking a test if things are beyond your sight and the bad guy purposely fails you to take you for his own? Seriously, this is not a fair way to prove someone has the Mark of Mastery especially since Riku would have done the same thing and Sora only failed because they didn't want to him to retain any of his powers for the next game. In layman's terms, it's plot convenience bullshit.

Honestly this was the first kingdom hearts game I played, I didn't know what kingdom hearts was at that time. I was really bad at the boss battles. I only got this game because I was looking for a game that was like Disney magical world, which is a very underrated Disney game, and someone told me that it was Disney. I had no idea who the square enix and final fantasy characters were so i was very confused.
Just now, I got to the Fantasia setting. Sora said: "King Mickey?", and then the screen got soft locked and a a Burger King commercial started playing while Apprentice Mickey still had both fingers extended to the ceiling, so it looked like it was just a still of him prattling on about the newest deal at BK.
I mean, you played BBS right? Eraqus explicitly states it's not about strength of will but strength of heart. Meaning whatever feats Sora accomplished would have absolutely no bearing on his readiness to become a Master. I don't think it was properly explained, but the reason Sora failed is because he couldn't even detect the darkness that had already closed around his heart. Riku immediately sensed the danger and reacted, because he has already dealt with the darkness. I think that what is needed to be a master is balance within your heart, which is why Terra and Sora had both failed initially because Terra couldn't keep his darkness in check and Sora had never let darkness close enough to him to truly understand it. I do also believe that Eraqus was more biased in his decision, and the fact that Xehanort being a Master is able to name masters by his discretion probably means that the actual naming can be a bit skewed depending on if later they succumb to darkness (or light as Xehanort pointed out) but I like to believe that Yen Sid remains to the true origins and understands true balance is needed.

Nova Fox actually Terra DID keep his darkness in check. Eraqus failed him because he was to quote "blinded by the light" he believed their shouldn't be any darkness. So when Terra showed any darkness he failed him.

Not really trying to defend it, but here's a possible explanation on sin 116 regarding why Axel, Roxas, Xion, and I suppose Namine can "feel" despite being Nobodies:
Namine - Nomura already messed up her character and any logic surrounding her, but at least the game itself mentions that she's a (using this word VERY lightly since this is KH after all) "special" Nobody. As such, she's just excused. No point trying to explain it otherwise since we'll all go crazy from the thought of it.
Roxas - Nomura said that Roxas had Ventus' heart within him in an interview. Whether he's BSing it or not, that's the explanation.
Xion - She is basically Roxas/Sora since she's stealing Roxas' essences so I suppose that's why she can feel.
Axel - It's not so much that he could feel any emotions. Rather, he was physically reacting to whatever he remembered. For example, friends cry when they know that they cannot see each other based on what he remembers/knows. Hence, he physically cried.
Naminé - That's kind of the point. In the Secret Ansem Reports, Ansem draws attention to the fact that Naminé defies nearly everything established about Nobodies up to that point, and tries to rationalize it several times before ultimately giving up.
Roxas - Not that I don’t agree that Ven’s heart is in Roxas, Nomura never actually flat out said it was, he only implied it. Even if it was flat out said, it’s hard to really say that Ven’s heart was the reason Roxas could feel given the condition it was in at the time. Not that it really matters at this point.
Namine is a "special" nobody. Because she is technically born as BOTH Kairi AND Sora's nobody.

Sure, Sora did the first part, but not the second. That's like going for a driving test, acing all the turn signals and parallel parking, but then smashing the car through a building at the end. He didn't return safely like Riku did.

Yes there's be prepared for any potential dangers, but at some point the Teacher kind of has to step in for things too much for the students to handle.

He tells Sora and Riku to forget everything they know about Keyblade weilding, only to them have them learn nothing new (Outside of flowmotion) and figure it out on their own (Basically self teaching), begging the question, why forget in the first place?
Part of me wishes this game took the opportunity to go for a purely character focused story. One that focuses on the growth of Sora and Riku, learning new lessons, dealing with more personal issues given the subject of dreams, rather than a save the world plot again.

First Kingdom Hearts games are the best. They’re better. Kingdom Hearts 1, 2 and 3 are my most favorites. Union X is good. Birth By Sleep is good too but I’m stuck forever on that stupid ice cream rhythm game. It’s ridiculously difficult.
