I’ve had asthma since I was 5 years old. When I turned 18 I went to my Dr and he put me on medication. My parents had no idea the reason I couldn’t breath was severe asthma! I am now 69. I was raised during a time period when people seldom went to the doctor unless you had a broken bone or a cut so bad that it needed stitches or pneumonia! Jump a head from five years old to18 when confirmed I had severe asthma until 69. I started carnivore diet when I was 68 still taking asthma medicine three times a day and keeping an inhaler by my side at all times. Today I am happy to say due to the carnivore diet sometimes green vegetables. I seldom even think about medicine or an inhaler. I do have seasonal allergies as well and although my diet program has helped me in so many ways I’m still working with my allergies to trees and mold. But even the allergies have minimize to the point I can continue to function by taking Benadryl at night. So truly folks from the time I was 18 years old until I was 68 continuous as my medication three times a day with my quick help inhaler always by my side. For the last eight months I am off my medication and I do keep the inhaler in my purse because I just never know if I go into an environment where there may have been a cat which will trigger me. But other than that the carnivore/strong keto diet has all but changed having to take medicine and struggling to breathe on a daily basis. I will continue on this diet the rest of my life as the benefits are amazing and I have all my grateful thankful gratitude To Dr. Ken Barry thank you for making these videos and thank you for changing some thing I had lived with all my life! I still am amazed that I am not taking asthma medication! Much love to Dr. Barry!!

Carol, may I ask what medications you were on 3x daily. I too just started Carnivore 6 weeks ago after severe Asthma Flare up. I haven't felt this good in a year. My asthma is environmentally triggered for the last 5yrs (currently 63 yrs old). I am on a new inhaler, my doctor had me on Symbicort and bumped me up to Breztri which helped me greatly during the flare up, she now wants me to use Fasenra a biologic injectable. I feel so great right now and am wondering if putting that on hold for now and reducing my Breztri from 2x a day to 1x a day to wean off (without my doctors blessing) is a good idea. Thoughts- thank you , Carolyn

Carol thank you for sharing your story! I too have severe allergies (been tested by an allergist 3X's and tried shots twice). Spring Summer and Fall are awful for me. I've been on Keto since Dec 17 and today my doctor officially took me off Diabetes, High blood pressure and several other meds. I've lost 19 lbs so far. My big concern is the allergies. She wants me to take Breo everyday; but it says right on their website that it can cause high blood sugars. I take antihistamines in the AM and sometimes Benedryl & Singular at night. So far I'm feeling ok this Spring. I've lost track how many times I've been hospitalized and rushed to Urgent care or ER. I'm hoping the reduction in inflammation will help stop my allergies or at least slow them down! Take Care.

I've had to inhale cortisone for years (first time before I was 20 years old and almost constantly from 35 to 45), was told that that was the only thing I could do. Once I started my keto journey - mostly thanks to your videos - I not only lost roughly 50 pounds (post-meno-pausal) but I was also able to ditch my inhaler. Now I only need it when I cheat: one roll in a restaurant and I wheeze like in the old days. Organic sourdough bread from an artisan baker (I live in Europe) every once in a while does not cause any problem. So I suspect that it's not only the insulin spike but probably also the low-quality, highly treated wheat that is being used in most modern bread.
Thank you for all your great information! Is there a French translation of Lies my doctor told me? Because my physician needs to read it...
All the best from a German living in Belgium!

By eliminating grains and industrial seed oils, I no longer have asthma. In addition my allergies are almost completely gone. During the worst of ragweed season, my eyes used to be sooo itchy, now they are barely a problem. The rest of the year, my allergies have disappeared. I can play and snuggle with my brother's dogs. It seems like a miracle. I save a fortune on drugs and drops, so don't let anyone tell you the proper human diet is expensive.

I was taking 8 medications a day and also using a nebulizer as well as an emergency inhaler. I started eating keto in October of 2018 and by the middle of January 2019 I was no longer taking any medication for asthma and more importantly I no longer have any symptoms of asthma. In my case I can whole heatedly concur.
Btw, also reversed borderline diabetes, insulin resistance, hypertension, sleep apnea and I know have so much more energy.

I have had hay fever from being 2 months old. Asthma was diagnose as a child and was exacerbated with a hay fever attack as well as other things. I always caught colds and had really bad chest infections. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. I changed my diet instantly, following advice from Dr Ken Berry and others and through , my own research. My nutrition is now plant based, dairy free, low carb sometimes keto and was keto between diagnosis and my operation, high nutrient and intermittent fasting. I haven't had a cold, hay fever or asthma attack in the last nearly 3 years. Oh and I had a double mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction 6months after diagnosis with no cancer treatment in between. when the pathology was done, they found that 1 of the 3 tumours had shrunk and 1 had disappeared. Anecdotal I know. For my own reasons, I refused both radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I am fitter and healthier than I have ever been, oh and 70lbs lighter. You are what you feed your body. I had hay fever as long as I could remember and began suffering from asthma at the age of 12. I had to be sure my rescue inhaler was with me at all times. Asthma can be quite frightening and disabling. A couple of years ago, my best friend and I, who are both over 60, decided to eat healthier. The first thing we did was research non-GMO and organic foods. We switched completely to organic, whether it was produce, meat, dairy ~ whatever. We prepared our own meals from whole, organic and/or non-GMO foods. I very quickly noticed a reduction in joint pain and heartburn. I was able to wean myself off of prescriptions for pain meds and proton pump inhibitors. My asthma and hay fever got better. When we added the properties of the Keto diet, my hay fever and asthma completely disappeared. The last rescue inhaler I had went past it’s expiration date and I had never taken even one puff! The pain reduction and elimination of hay fever and asthma is a little slice of heaven!

I’m now 56 and have not needed any inhalers for 3 years. My doctor is still amazed how clear my lungs are. I have so much less overall inflammation on keto. Try it. You won’t be sorry.

I had eosinophilic asthma symptoms most of my life. I was taking two pills and three inhalers to reduce the symptoms. One of my triggers was/is grass pollen so stopping grains would have been a great suggestion by some medical person, but I never received that advice. I have been on keto for four years (started when I was 62) and got off all my asthma and allergy meds within 6 months. Unfortunately, these stupid mask laws have caused a flare-up so I limit my trips to places requiring them. Thank you Dr. Berry! I have gone from 12 medications down to 2 since keto. I'm proof it is never too late to start a better way of eating.

I have cough-variant asthma which kept me up for hours at night with lengthy coughing fits. Even walking up a single flight of stairs could bring on a coughing fit. Laughing also caused horrible coughing. I would actually avoid laughing sometimes. I was on the highest dose of singulair and advair. I was absolutely miserable and it seemed to be getting worse. Within a week of going on the keto diet my coughing was reduced by about 75-80%. I can sleep soooo much better at night, which improves my mood and energy so much. I’m sure weight loss will help even more, but just the asthma relief I’ve gotten from keto so far has been amazing.

Ketovore has helped my asthma tremendously and so has losing weight and vitamin d3. I was a premie and have had it for a lifetime but it is usually dormant if I am in shape and don't have cats. The doctor from childhood said it was damage in the lungs due to being born too early. Certain things trigger it such as cat dander (I have 6 indoor cats) and smoke. I stopped smoking 30 years ago but I live in California and the last few years have been an air nightmare because of forest fires. My asthma came back with a vengeance two years ago when I was 267 pounds and the first of the worst forest fires destroyed parts of my hometown. That was also when I adopted the kittens.
I went to the doctor and she gave me some high blood pressure meds, a steroid inhaler, albuterol, and some recommendations on eating 1200 calories per day on a low fat diet. I told her I'd do it on Atkins and she actually rolled her eyes at me. She then put on my blood test order "metabolic syndrome due to over eating in calories" and still to this day, even with the lower blood pressure and weight loss, she still disses keto. The funny thing is, she isn't a tiny thing. She's actually shorter than I am and probably weighs about 200 pounds. I tossed the blood pressure meds after reading the warnings and realized I eventually didn't need the QVAR. I still need the emergency inhalre sometimes when it gets smokey.
I'm now down to 215. I still have it, but I don't need the emergency inhaler as much. I think losing the internal fat on my organs put less pressure on my lungs. Also, the less inflammation due to eating very low carb has helped out a lot. I'm ketovore for life now. When I go into my doctor's office next July with the same amazing blood tests (way different from when I started in Jan 2018) I'm going to show her once again how my lifestyle is healthier than what she is suggesting. Maybe I'll bring your book as a gift.

I was almost 300lbs for 7 years and it took a toll on my asthma: 3 diff inhalers and a nebulizer for real bad days. 2019 found Keto, diet sounded like fun so I tried it and was addicted to it within the week. I lost more fat than I had ever before, loads more energy and mobility and much to my amazement, I completely forgot I had asthma. For the first time in years I did not only NOT have to use my inhaler several times a day, I didn't have to use it for months and months and months on end. 140lbs lighter and even with being covered in the CA smoke for the past few weeks, I STILL did NOT have to use my inhaler. I was just thinking the other day "wow, I didn't have to break out my inhalers!" which also had me wondering when I used them last. Right before I went keto and now carnivore so since December 2018 was my last inhaler use. The power of keeping carbs and sugar out of your body is extraordinary and I wish I have been eating this way all of my life and not wasting my time on being a vegan for 10 years! KETO and CARNIVORE HEAL the body inside out!!!! Must be why there's an attack on meat right now. Meat heals!!

My asthma is totally gone now as well. I only eat one big meal per day and when I eat, I prioritize meat, fish, eggs and fermented dairy. That and some fruits, very little vegetable. No industrialy processed food anymore. No more asthma crisis in the last three years. So I don't have any salbutamol inhaler anymore. By the way, my arthrisis is gone as well, but that I guess is a matter for another discussion.

No doubt in my mind that lowering your carb intake will literally diminish your asthma! I am 52 and have had several chronic asthma my entire life until 10 months ago when started only taking 50 to 110 grams of cards daily. 5 years ago I was at the point where I had to have Adviar maintenance medications along with my quick relief inhalers. I am now completely off of all medications and I still occasionally drink milk and some breads now, but still no problems at all! I'm convinced that the carbs were causing inflammation in my body. I hope this encourages someone! I'm convinced my doctors was full of it telling me I will live with it the rest of my life.

I also think it is very astute of you- when doing Keto, it is very easy to slip into Carnivore ( meat only days, zero carb days- when you hit a stall, etc). I swore that I would never do Carnivore, but maybe I will-I dip my toe in every once in a while. I really appreciate that you leave the door open - emphasizing real food. Thank you, Dr. Berry!

I'm 43 year old male and I've had severe chronic asthma since I was about 7 years old. I've been hospitalized in the past because it got so bad. I've been on medication and the doctors said there was nothing more I could do. My asthma would start for no reason. I realized months ago a correlation between eating sugar and asthma. I would eat sugar and within minutes to several hours i would start weezing and the symptoms would get worse. I decided to cut all processed sugar and bread out of my diet. Within three weeks I was able to get off my steroids. I recently stopped carrying my emergency inhaler as i no longer need it. Our food is literally killing us! I'm glad I found alternative doctors like Ken Berry with amazing information.

This correlates to the comment I just left above and that is when our immune systems are in an inflamed state, either by being overweight or overwhelmed trying to cope with too much sugar, you get asthma which is basically your immune cells attacking the lining of your own lungs. Basically your immune system is worn out and overwhelmed and starts misfiring and spraying your entire body with antibodies and cytokine storms. A good book I just read which goes over this in detail was "The Autoimmune Solution" by Amy Myers. She basically is saying the same thing that the diet and being overweight will put you on the auto immune spectrum, if you keep up the bad behavior you are at risk for full blown auto immune diseases.

I'm now 14 months into a zero-carb diet and I have been off ALL medication for about 9 months, including asthma and allergy medication. I have not needed steroids since a couple of weeks into changing my diet. I changed to the proper human diet because I had learned that I have true allergies to corn and wheat. I have terrible asthma, but I also have the autoimmune disease called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Any spike of inflammation anywhere in my body can trigger a flare up and can cause me to not just have asthmatic symptoms, but actually go into anaphylaxis. My daily edema and welting and swelling has decreased drastically and my life is changing. I have been eating this way for over two months now, and the last 2 weeks have been like heaven. I haven't been afraid of my airway closing up on me. I was so inflamed and had my immune system working overtime, all of the time, that even warm water on my skin was very painful and would come out of the shower in hives and my hair was falling out in clumps. These things ARE resolving. I eat clean food. I eat good fat. I started this trying to loose weight. I made it my job to learn everything I could about it, and was stunned to learn that I could loose weight, but also, eating this way could heal me. Read that again. Eating this was could heal me. And, it is. I take more medication than anyone I know, but I am starting to see over the horizon and picture a day in the near future when I can start cutting back on medication.

I have suffered from Asthma for about 20 years. Before low carb I used Seretide (2 puffs twice a day) and often required Flixotide as well to provide satisfactory control. I started a low carb diet (later Keto) to help with IBS and mood. To my surprise I was able to stop the Flixotide and often reduce the Seretide to 1 puff twice a day. I no longer worry if I forget my "blue" inhaler. Keto has also completely fixed the IBS and after 9 months of the new diet I am almost off my anti-depressant medication as well.

Welp, I started keto/IF at the end of June 2019, and I had NO IDEA that this is something you can do if you have asthma. No one had ever mentioned it to me. At the time I was using an inhaler once or twice a day. After about a week, I realized I hadn't been using it as much. After two weeks, I actually started to forget about it, where before I had to make sure to keep track of it. Eventually not only did I stop needing the inhaler but once in a blue moon, but my energy level went way up, and I could exercise without any trouble breathing. Also, I've lost 80lbs--a little embarrassing to admit I had that much to lose, but on the other hand I got on top of it. The intermittent fasting part of all of this is critically important--a keto diet all by itself becomes a terrific grind because sooner or later you're going to plateau, and too, you don't get the benefit of things like autophagy unless you give your body a chance to do something besides digest food.

This is 💯 true. I gained rapid weight and I was diagnosed years before that, with late onset of asthma. When I gained weight I began to have regular asthma symptoms. I went on a ‘loose’ keto diet meaning I wasn’t that strict cos I still ate fruit and it was like magic. My symptoms totally disappeared to the point I never used Inhalers and it got removed from my subscription list. Not only the asthma but drastically reduced my hay fever/allergies suffering as well. Once I gained weight during the lockdown and was careless with my diet, the symptoms came back again and I know what to do because I experienced the significant difference.

Fast forward in early 2019, when I did keto for a month, I started walking and had a heart monitor on. While I was walking, I noticed a remarkable difference how my heart rate was on keto and my breathing was while doing keto. Both improved and Cardio exercise was much easier for me. I will also stress the importance of nose breathing. To people who breathe through your mouth a lot, it might take some getting used to and maybe even feeling lack of O2. I can assure you you're blood is getting even more oxygen, and you're increasing the amount of nitric oxide (many benefits, look it up) It takes a lot more for me to feel out of breath as well.

Great advice! Was told many times over 40 yrs that I couldn't "cure" my Asthma. I did. Started at 10 years old and am officially asthma-free for 2 years now. As Dr Berry says - Inflammation - is the cause. I reduiced sugars and carbohydrates - not strict keto - and limit eating hours to 8-10 hrs/day (intermittent fasting). Both reduce blood insulin levels and therefore, inflammation. Good sleep habits also helped - enough quality sleep at reasonable hours - reduce inflammation. Use sodium bocarbonate tea for occasional treatments to balance high body acidity. Bicarbonate tea is known to reduce kidney inflammation and histamines. Helped with allergic asthma symptoms. Don't forget the mental aspect. If you have excessive emontional or mental stress is can affect your body tension, acidity, breathing and sleep -all resulting in inflammation. Work on managing any excessive stress to break away from or better handle toxic ppl or situations in your life. Practice deep breahting and use the "bellows" Yoga breahting exercise. I used my inhaler "daily" for many many years but and don't need it anymore.😊

I have had severe asthma since I was 18 months old. Last January I was also diagnosed with celiac ( genetic test then did the actual blood draw) I never had any digestive issues and I am now 44. So I chalked it up to one more thing I was allergic too. I went on the keto diet mainly because it seemed like a good choice for someone who is celiac, I was shocked within a month I noticed improvement in my asthma. I have not had to use my rescue inhaler in 4 months and before I was using it multiple times a day.

Maybe try to improve other factors, such as going to sleep earlier. I find that staying awake all night (or working a night shift) greatly exacerbates my asthma, and that going to sleep early (or working day shifts) greatly improves my symptoms...

@@VermilionCandles You're welcome. I've been a night owl all of my life, and I strongly believe that my poor sleep has been the cause of my chronic inflammation. I started going to sleep around 12, but having experimented I now want to try and go to sleep around 8-9pm and become an early riser, since I feel even better the earlier that I go to bed. I'm only in my 30s, and developed asthma 3 years ago, but I'm desperate to try whatever it takes to get my health back on track. I've tried keto, with all the broccoli sprouts, green smoothies, and supplements to boot, with no success. So, from Monday I'll be trying a 100% carnivore diet. My asthma also developed after the first few years of having cats, and so there may also be contributing factors such as pets which you may wish to consider; I notice that I always start coughing the moment that I come home from work...

I've done Keto since 2010. Really Carnivore most days. I've developed asthma in the last year. So, I'm a huge believer in the benefits of Keto. I've lost 120 lbs. But it hasn't stopped me from becoming asthmatic. It probably delayed it. And perhaps I'm not as severe an asthmatic as I would have been, but I've had to use my inhaler twice this week due to wildfires in Canada.

I have a foster son that is a severe asthmatic that takes 3 inhalers 2 allergy pills. Lung function was 26 when I got him. He also takes a shot every two weeks. He was eating fast food on a daily basis before he came to me. We never go out to eat because it’s a hour drive from my house too a fast food restaurant. We don’t eat a lot of processed foods. I just put food and asthma together and realized that is why his lung function is up, he hasn’t had a shot in 6 weeks. And doesn’t even wheeze anymore. That you for this video!

I grew up with asthma as long as I can remember, my father and brother also had it. I thought I inherited it and was also told that, well did I find out that's not true. I found Dr. Berry and found out so different, thank you Dr. Berry. I had so many things wrong with my health and now am so free and feel so great, yes it is because of the KETO diet or should I say new way of eating.

My asthma went away mostly on a Paleo diet, I was low carb and most likely hitting keto macros. Seasonal allergies cleared up as well. I've been mostly carnivore past year with a sarcoidosis diagnosis. I delved a little back into Paleo and almost immediately had runny nose, nasal drip and sneezing. That was always an asthma trigger for me, so, I won't go there again.

I've struggled with asthma my whole life, but I've found relief through intermittent periods of following the keto diet. During those times, I've shed a significant amount of weight, ranging from 40 to 60 pounds. Remarkably, at my healthiest while on keto, I can't recall needing my inhaler. I need to get my butt back into gear! Thanks Doc.

I had asthma and allergies for 40+ years. Sometimes extremely chronic and caused bad insomnia at night. I knew dust affected me. Was hospitalized with bronch. pneumonia as a child. Eventually my primary care doc gave my Advair, Qvar, Albuterol etc.... Went to allergist and pomologist and did sleep study. The allergist told me I was allergic to dust mites. This helped me to some degree as I was able to mitigate the affect somewhat (mattress cover, Hepa Vacuum, Air purifier). I told the allergist that I thought certain foods contributed to my asthma (loved and ate a lot of "healthy cereals" such as granola, raisin brand, wheat brand, organic cereal). The allergist insisted that foods to not contribute to asthma and wanted to put me on prilosec. Luckily I knew better. Do not get stuck on an acid blocker long term.

My sleep and asthma got worse and worse. The absolute game saver for me which probably saved my life was buying The Paleo Cure book by Chris Kresser, a functional doctor. I did an elimination diet (as described in the book) and cut out all processed foods, all grains, pasta, sugar etc.... Slowly re-introduced some foods. Fortunately, I always like healthy real foods, but I was just never fully educated about the bad foods. Eat only real foods that God put on earth, no food-like substances. God did not create a Dorito/Pringles Tree... Slowly and slowly I got better and within a year was off asthma meds. Changing my diet, adding probiotics and trying to control indoor toxins solved my asthma after 40+ years of suffering. I still carry an inhaler (as a binky), but use it less than 5 times a year (mostly preventatively if I am sick).
I truly hope others can be helped by my experience as I wish I knew 40 + years ago what I know now. You can solve the problem by finding the root cause. Wishing you the best

Again, being overweight or in an inflamed state by eating foods that cause a leaky gut is the main cause of asthma. This is based on my experience which I posted above and based on the comments that i am seeing. This confirms what I learned in the book "The autoimmune Solution" By Amy Myers. Wow, my doctor and modern medicine are in the stone age.

Next time I started keto I kept the menu plan, I just turned it to keto. I did keto for 3 months... asthma got so much better. I am so happy to find your video and got conformation that low carb is really good for me. Thank you. 🍀

I am about 5 weeks into what started as Keto, now Carnivore diet. Down 15 lbs from 195 to 180 and back at my wedding weight in 2004, with no change in exercise regime. I have used a Ventolin inhaler since I was 10. At 56 now, I no longer need this at all. Skin conditions have cleared up 90%. Back pain gone. My A1C is down to 5.4 (was borderline prediabetic before). My cholesterol is higher but I am monitoring it and per Dr. Berry's fantastic content I am not remotely worried. Most importantly and apart from all the health benefits, I just feel fantastic. Huge energy, never hungry, and my mental focus is off the charts. The food administration has been lying to us for 50+ years. Bravo Dr. Berry - keep up the great work.

This is similar to my story. Being overweight causes our immune systems to be working overtime dealing with the weight, this is called inflammation. Its amazing how "Doctors". don't tell their patients to try and lose weight first.

while i haven't done keto, i've been gluten free for a week. i only did it just see what would happen and didn't think anything would happen.
I was shocked how quickly and how much my asthma has improved. I've now removed all grains from my diet.
I did have a digestive biscuit today and I was ill all day, so now I know.
As I'm obese, I'm looking to see what other improvements i can make.

I have had asthma my entire life. As an adult I have for years relied on a rescue inhaler particularly at night or during the night. Wheezing and seasonal allergies made it much more frequent. About three years ago I began to experiment with Keto (simple food, no keto snacks, 20-30g of carbs max a day). I noticed after getting keto adapted (about a month of strict keto for me) I noticed that I was going days without taking any hits off the inhaler. Days turned into weeks. I was too lazy to research any correlation with Keto and asthma but I sensed it had flipped a rather dramatic switch with my asthma. Keto can be very hard for some people but it is very easy for me. I have continued on this diet to control my weight while also fixing or reversing a lot of other issues including high cholesterol. Keto has been a game changer for my overall function and certainly my Asthma. Thank you Dr. Berg this was an "aha!" moment for me thank you!

I would love to believe this works but since stopping milk and cheese I have had a significant reduction in the clear mucous that used to block my airways. I understand that milk is not keto but I would have thought that cheese was mucous producing, which is a major problem for asthmatics.
I will have to do some more research into this. Thanks for the information.
