  • Here's the sad truth about my 2024 Mustang GT that is a pretty big let down. The fact Ford won't allow tuning to these Mustangs is a shame but hopefully soon they will so we can see the full potential of the S650 Mustang. E85 tune, 2024 Mustang with a 10R80 would be lethal! #mustang

      Ford should, but at the same time I don’t like buying new cars. Past 2014 the only one I would want is the gt350. And I would still daily my 06.

    Hey last June I attended a Ford Engineer seminar (invitation only) where they briefed the fight with the EPA & CAFE government lawyers on the ability to tune and what the Ford engineers did to upgrade the S650 over the S550 Mustang.
    First (1) I learned that Ford would have never come out with Gen 4 Coyote engine and the new S650 Mustang had they (Ford) not appeased the government by producing the Mach E Mustang EV. It was the EV Mustang that provided the opportunity for Ford to go build the S650 and Dark Horse to address CAFE numbers overall.
    Second (2) Ford stated that they were going to release the ECU/ ECM Encryption to Whipple, RTR, Roush, Ford Performance in September of 2023. Hence we now know about the tune that is provided by Whipple when you buy the SC. Whipple partnered with VMP so that they could still sell SC kits. I believe that this is true now with RTR SC & Ford Performance & Saleen. We need to be patient because I believe the encryption is coming over the next fall/winter.

    Im a 650 owner, ordered mine in January and assumed by the time it was shipped the car would be unlocked but April came and i got the car and here we are in June and still no tuning. As time goes on less people will buy them and most of us will get rid of them and grab an S550 or another brand and mod it up. Every mustang before this is unlocked so why bother locking this, your only hurting yourself and will probably be fords downfall. The New GT500 is a bust and no one can afford a GTD. Save yourself Ford dont screw your loyal clientel

      Its not just ford and the s650. Most manufacturers are doing the same. Took a year plus on the s58 motor on the new g8x cars from bmw.

      The GT 500 is a GT with a Whipple and a body kit. U can make the same car with Performance Pack GT and an extra 10k for the Whipple and maybe 5k for a body kit. But they are charging way over that price point just for the name. If your ok with that then u are the typical "Shelby Guy" that they prey on.

    Sounds like you are calling your viewers a bunch of base model having Mustang owners who can't afford a Whipple. lol. The tuning issue is all EPA related. I'm sure Ford didn't want to do it but was getting pressure from the EPA. We need to take our grievances up with them and ensuring the EPA doesn't over reach and have too much control. This is just the start. Why not do max effort as it sits right now with the Ford tune? Get it to the track and start practicing and working on it and getting the car to perform as it sits. Why does it have to be tuned for you to see what it can do max effort with the Ford tune?

    S550 owner here, I am just happy Ford is still making small block v8s. Chevy discontinued the camaro, dodge discontinued challenger and charger. Outside of the mustang what’s left other than the C8 and caddy? Also keep in mind it took two yrs to crack the C8 . I understand the frustration, but if it keeps the small block around so be it

    They are supposed to lock PPL out for the first 2 years.. it's a brand new Gen.. They are already having recalls and I get it from Fords point of view.. It's only been 6 months since they have been out and Ford probably wants to know what's wrong with the cars before they start unlocking them and letting others turn them up.. They have to go through 2 years of recalls before unlocking them.. And for me honestly, I would rather have the whipple with a 93 tune than an NA E85 tune.. I've seen guy's waste $6000/$7000 on long tubes Intakes, airboxes and e85 tunes, all for 100 HP.. And then you have to play with your fuel and always be measuring the E in it.. And worst of all drive around with Blue jugs in your trunk while lying to people, "telling them you only have 89 in the Tank".......... No thanks.... I don't care if it takes me 4/5 years of saving I am getting a Whipple... And Finally Ford is expecting PPL to be smart and not Kill their warranties in the first month of ownership...

    As a Ford and Chevy boy when it comes to American cars. I think they shouldn’t lock the tunes, it just hurts. It doesn’t help any, I dream to own a 2024 next to my 1970.

    The reason Ford did this is probably pandering to the EPA, be mad at ford for bowing down, but also be mad at our government for thinking it has the power to restrict what we do with our cars, especially considering how small the performance car market is, its like a super small niche market (compared to non modified A-B drivers).

    Hey, I agree, you should be able to tune your car. To be honest as a Mach 1 owner ford should offer official NA tunes for the mach 1, to comply with the warranty. Thanks for your time in highlighting this issue, I'm 100% with you. "ICE Mach 1" channel 👍🏼

    Unfortunately, I don’t think tuning for the 2024s will be available anytime soon. As far as the Whipple calibrations, keep in mind that they’re much more conservative than your aftermarket tuner calibrations. The fact that Whipple can send you a tune after installing their blower on your car, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a “good” tune compared to the Ford tuning juggernauts, such as Lund.

    Okay you got a couple options here you can go straight to Ford themselves and see if you can ask them to unlock the ECU and you offer to pay for it or you can find a backyard tuner / mechanic who is willing to buy the technology to unlock the ECU and then I'd recommend taking it to a professional tuner because you're not going to find a tune online

    Not sure how many people view your channel who actually own Mustang's, but I feel you're stretching yourself thin here... I started watching your channel when you threw a centri on your S197 and now it seems like there's zero love for it (lack of content), and I stayed just long enough to get an interest in your Mach (I have a boosted S550) which is a beautiful car, just wish you raced your cars more than doing the cosmetic thing. Go to a drag strip, do more road racing, take more cruises with the boys. I know everyone has a different opinion why they find your channel entertaining but unless I see "racing the car boys!" I rarely look since it's mostly fluff and vlogs. Again, the Mach is beautiful but what now?.. You have a tire just for looks... 'head scratch.' Do a mod, race/track it. Do another mod and repeat. Reduce the time with cosmetics and let's hear the cars - more the S197 since I am a boosted man at heart. And truly, a manual snob too! Nothing better than seeing you hit a good shift - all manual owners appreciate a well-executed shift.
    The S650 is alright. I am glad you like it but it's only for clout and views why you bought it. Personally, I didn't think you needed it at all. But I get it. Unfortunately, it has zero flare since it's another S550 with newer lights, a resigned interior, etc... If anything, just keep it as it sits and focus on the other two cars which actually make your page pop.

    Im glad the ecu is locked. Its weeding out the stupid intake manufacturers who claim 20hp wheel with the hood up and a tune 🙄
    These ECUs on the 24s seem to be able to adapt to E30 just fine so I think your headers and a splash of the right fuel probably makes more power already. Sure with no tuning we cant have tuners slam your transmission into the next gear or give you a hair trigger throttle but honestly a NA tune even on the S550 could only squeeze so much juice out the engine.

    I believe ford did this cause of California. (I’m from here) I also believe that they did this cause hear me out… I think a NA build waste more gas than a super charger, yes I know there’s more air for a super charger but NA needs more power to get to a certain point than a supercharger does. But hey that’s just a theory…. A ford theory.

    Dude, you could still get a bunch of content out of it if you go all out on the suspension and chassis. Full steeda package. Drag race k member, toe arms, camber arms, irs lockout kit, irs support bars, sway bars, end Links, coil overs. This is all stuff that would definitely be relatable.

    Other than The Europeans, Mustang is the last v8 car in the US whether 2 or 4 door. They will still sell great. Ford won't change anything because they have no competition or reason to. The OTA update thing is what's screwing this up. I don;t want nay car with OTA updates. I realizes there are valid reasons to update an ECM but it should be very rare and done at the dealer by cable. They can tune them right now. problem is the OTA updates will see the change and brick the car. again ford has no reason to change its policy.

    I put a Supercharger on a 2008 GT Pearl White, CONVERTIBLE, Fake roll bar,and a Rousch Supercharger. Cars have improved so much I have a 2019 S550 Mustang GT with a Rousch True COLD AIR, American Muscle Headers*(Which I never had before) a custom zone pipe and Flowmaster "Outlaw" series PIPES, making the muscle car sound like one! Which one do you think is faster? Forgot the tune for S550 by Muffler& Auto Works in Naples. The 19 is much faster! Don't pay insane prices for a DARK HORSE OR NEW GT. THEY ARE BEGGING TO BUY MY USED '19.

    Your 1000% correct....I don't want to spend 12k+ on a super charger. I'd love a ford performance tune to go with my exhaust, CAI, and eventually khooks....and offer E85 and 93.
    I love my manual but if Ford put a legit Auto in the GT like the ZF8 speed or there own DCT i would have bought a Auto...i just think the A10 is still trashy and great for towing but not for performance models.

    Yes i agree brother ,ford claims the mustang is the most modified, most raced car in the world, but then shoot u down on on a N/A tune ,in my mind they putting their foot in their mouth ,bout to pull the trigger on ess G3 supercharger on my 16 gt ,best bang for the buck, luckily i have lund backing me and ford dont care about tuning restrictions on gen 2 coyote ,i went full bolt on n/a for 2 years time to double my hp cant wait, good luck with the build bro

    Hot take/TLDR: I would much rather watch DBP than someome like TJ Hunt (for example).
    When i first got into cars, I really wanted an FRS/BRZ. I started watching TJ for that content and it was solid for a while; every video felt like seeing a buddy who had hella car knowledge. Eventually, he started buying these crazy expensive cars (JDM and American)that i didnt really have an interest in because it was so farfetched from what was possible for me then and still.
    Here, Derek has a car that is attainable, mod-able (except the EPU 😒), and fun without being a millionaire and giving a general roadmap to makong it more than it is. TJ has awesome cars, but it feels like hes showboating at this point.

    Why would Ford partner with an outside Tuning company for N/A tunes? They can keep it entirely in house with Ford performance and offer a 'performance package' with their flash device and software? And making E85 tunes isn't necessarily a popular venture for a Automaker as the big 3 learned in the early 2000s with Flex fuel vehicles. 75% of states in the lower 48 don't even offer E85 or even Flex fuel nowadays. Corn is still popular on the East coast states and California and a few places across the great plains but that's pretty much it these days. The manufacturer definitely has to keep EPA compliance paramount as violations and fines for manufacturers come at an insane cost. As a matter of fact Volkswagen learned a $$$ hard lesson $$$ about that a few years back. So forget boosting the 24' Put boost on you're Mach 1 it's a car worth making the investment in. The 24' base GT is a "bucket" definitely not the car to drop $12k in but the Mach 1 on the other hand that's the ticket.

    As the owner of of 2 SUPER CHARGED cars I have to say you Will love it. 2003 bmw E39m5 600whp/ 2012 Audi A7 500 plus WHP. The are both really fun. You will not regret the supercharger. Trust 👍

    I’d say it would be nice and plausible if they partnered with Lund for a 93 tune for a stock 2024’s since almost everyone has access to 93 and very possibly a E85 tune. Them doing so would bring more business to Lund racing which really popular among the mustang community as is and it would allow people to further enjoy their 2024’s and make it feel like they actually got their moneys worth even if they can’t afford the whipple. Ik Lund says stock cats, headers, etc. doesn’t matter as far as tuning because the car adjust for it, just like Air intakes that doesn’t majorly increase the diameter of piping and throw off the MAF reading. So it’s very possible if ford wanted to for them to allow Lund to create a tune for stock 2024’s

    Do you really think Ford needs to partner up with a tune house to NA tune these cars? They will be likely be offering OTA tunes. I'd guess they have them in development, if not developed already.
    For the record though, I concur with your disappointment in having to skip to a $10k + SC kit . That one trick route is boring already. I find the Steeda Silver Bullet 2.0 type a build more interesting. Love to see the full spectrum of forced induction kits able to be done on the 2024 as well.
    PS.. Apex looks great man. The Feral Ind parts really stepped up the looks dept.

    You can always swap out that Gen-4 and drop a Gen-4X which has a tuneable ECU. Don’t blame Ford when in reality the blame falls on the new U.S. government emission regulations. That’s part of why Chevy and Dodge decided to ditch their V-8’s. At least Ford didn’t cave in to the nonsense. Not to get political, but in order to make a change to these green new deal policies vote accordingly and take 10 or more friends with you to do the same. You have the power to make a difference you just have to use it.

    I was planning on picking up a Dark Horse after my wife’s car is paid off. To me it makes more sense to unlock tuning for base models that would be doing minor/more affordable mods like cold air intake or exhaust and switching to E85 for the average consumer over the occasional supercharged S650. At this point I would almost rather have a performance pack Mach 1 that has all kinds of aftermarket support over a new model that is still locked.

    Owned my 24 since October, love the car but it’s starting to get boring without anyway to make it a little faster. I’ve already got a whipple f150 so don’t want to do another whipple coyote… Ford needs to fix this

    Maybe you kids just stop tuning cars? I remember a day when 480hp was alot and honestly it still is. Yall just want more for the sake if having it.
    Unless you are drag racing its pointless and street racing is illegal and dangerous.
    It'll be tunable soon enough. Until then you will havw to "settle" for a powerful car despite it being slower than your tuned car

    I understand WHY you hid the speedo, but wish ppl quit doing that as if it negates ppl being able to track your speed. It's a million landmarks and man-made structures/road lines that are placed at the exact same intervals. If someone wanted to calculate your speed, it's as easy as seeing how long it takes to get from one landmark to the other (among other ways). You are not doing anything reckless enough to warrant someone looking that deep into it.

    I think its B.S. that the OEM locks the PCM. Its mine and I should be able to do with it what I want. If I do, the warranty is voided, I get it. John Deere tried pulling this crap on tractors. Right to Repair!

    People thought the C8 would never be tuned too, the S650 have Whipple with a tune like Whipple did with the S550s it was able to be tuned quick, so will these probably within a year because Ford wants to step up sales and the Drivetrains are proving to hold up great

    Ford will likely do what they did with the Gen 2 and Gen 3. They'll sell their own tune themselves bundled with a CAI/filter and sell it for around $700

    Almost bought a s650 twice went into the dealer and everything the main deal breaker is having to pay way more for less and honestly not being able to change the fuel to run e85 till then I guess il just keep enjoying a full bolt on s550

    Look at that Mach 1 u can’t beat it looks sooo sexy anyway but seeing them side by side even with out the ride and tuneable Mach just in looks and body style says all let alone the 🤮 interior of the 650 and the outside bits that I can’t stomach.Derek love the Mach bro I’d love to see more of that

    I’m with ya brotha it’s like if you buy a computer and it comes with some apps already but you can’t down load apps for your personal preference its yours you should be able to do what you want like tune your Stang. I think when Ford builds a car it should meet all the requirements but once you buy it you should be able to tune it if that’s what you want to do

    I do blame it partially on emissions but the real reason is Ford gets paid by Whipple every time they install one vs local tuners they don't get a dime. Ford turning into Mr. Crabs and it's making me sick.

    My buddy has a gen 1 thats bone stock minus a catchcan and exhaust and it eats e85 on no tune… he runs 50/50 mix and it makes a little more power and doesnt sacrifice all the mileage to get it done
