It would be a Netflix series which ends on a cliffhanger, then it gets cancelled for season 2. Is that a negative attitude? Good job I don't have acute depression, ocd, and sleep anxiety, otherwise I would be fu..
Right on time. Thank you. I feel like a creature that gets triggered by EVERYTHING that surrounds it, literally anything can make me super anxious. I can have like 5 anxiety attacks in a day due to different random things. Horrible. I feel like I don’t have any strength…
Same here sometimes. But you just have to always have this in mind that OCD is playing tricks on your mind thereby intriguing your anxiety. Just laugh over it and get urself occupied with other activities, the anxiety will go away on its own.
When you talked about the shows and movies goals are to make you feel emotion/type of sensation, that really helped something click for me. Because I'm a fan of anime and it can be triggering for me and certain parts can make me start the "what ifs", or "did I?" But your explanation really helped me like "I get it now."
For those struggling, know you can and will improve with proper action. I used to be stuck in a cycle of alcoholism to deal with my symptoms, either having a panic attack or intoxicated, throwing my life away. I was scared to hug my own mother or even interact with others. All that I did was drink and cry. In 2 years, I've dove into competitive bodybuilding and jiu jitsu as outlets. I'm engaged and legitimately happy. This illness never fully goes away, something that I've since accepted. You will struggle, you will cry, but you will still grow. From being suicidal to prosperous, know that things do get better. Bless you all.
Hey Nate just learned of you from your interview with Patrick McGrath. I was diagnosed a little over 1 year ago with OCD at 57 years old. I have made great progress with a therapist from NOCD. Your material is something I was hoping to do someday. Glad you are crushing it. 🎉.
I have been suffering from OCD for more than a decade and have been taking sertraline for several years, but it kept recurring. After watching your video and using your methods of agreeing with obsessive thoughts and ‘maybe maybe not’, I feel much better.
I can resist not doing the compulsions. Both physically and mentally. Hard part is when I don't do compulsions I lack joy and satisfaction - Feels like an unsolved very important problem remains in my head, even though I don't engage in it. I just can't endure living this way, that's why I do a compulsion in most cases.
Hello Nate, thank you very much for your videos! In my case i have a whole set of *superstitions* (i can call 'em rituals by now), like that example knocking the door 3 times, also health anxiety/OCD kicks in sometimes and Dr .Google of course. I understand saying: "Go to town man, live a life..." but i live in a small, poorly developed "town" and I'm jobless, so i can't afford much for traveling. ERP works, but I can't say it's easy method, I'm doing it gradually. (even during writing this comment i had that weird feeling that I'm doing something i should not 😐) I love you all good people and i hope you recover from OCD much sooner and easier !!!
Your content is a lifesaver! Could you maybe make a video on changing OCD themes in combination with erp? Since all themes might have different triggers, how to approach erp best when themes are switching up?
Reminder for everyone that watches these videos. They are quite informative and helpful, but be careful to not acidently watch them for reasurance, that can be a compulsion.
But its soo hard not to. ive already did my informatjve research about OCD and it sometimes it just feels like its too much and i need to watch these videos to feel better/less alone
@wuchangfr9688 i've fallen for this too. A rule of thumb I use is, If I need to do a specific action, like watching a video, to stop feeling anxious or uneasy, it's most likely OCD
I wore my OCD NINJA shirt to my parents house the other day. My stepmom asked me about it giggling, and I told her, Yes, I have OCD. I am in my mid thirties and very few know i have it as my "magical thinking" told me not to talk about it because Something BAD!!!!
Hello y'all , hope your day is wonderful. just a question of ocd - remembering purposely & paying attention & ruminating purposely about 'repetitive and unwanted words' , And 'images' that we have that TRIGGERs anxiety is a form of mental compulsion that feeds the cycle and keeps it going ?
What if you do the ERP, and something bad happens, that maybe would of not happened if I had checked. Am I not setting myself up for huge disappointment if I do ERP and its checking gas cooker, and then when I successfully do ERP, the gas is left on (this almost happened but caught the dial on the cooker in time)?
Nate what about auditory ocd? I keep repeating the same screaming voice in my head for years! How do I escape that? You keep talking about the same old ocd themes! How I break the cycle about repeating noises and voices in my head? After an event in my life I keep repeating a screaming voice ! I feel different I feel that I can’t repeating a screaming voice
Can you please make a video of using Clonazepam or Benzos for OCD. They work very well. Can you please tell. If you have already made a video, please share the link. Thanks for all help. Great videos!
how do i deal with the fact that my ocd is scared of being anxious? i only do the compulsions to lessen my anxiety not to prevent anything and i WILL become more anxious if i dont do them so i feel stuck :(
Same here! Stopping the compulsion is the way out. I've been told to agree with thoughts and other therapists recommend letting the anxious thoughts play without getting involved with them. I'm not completely better, but ever since I learned to sit with the sensations without trying to get rid of it has helped.
Dr please help meeee. I am abt to marry in 3 months and i have rocd. I want to breakup and never get close to someone ever but my parents are so happy and told everyone that i will marry. I am from asian muslim culture. Whenever a delays come i felt relieved or happy. this sun is my engagement. I feel shievering hands and cold feets. My heart starts racing faster and all the intrusive thought kicking me in. I feel to throw up and lost my apetite. The guy is so understanding and loves me. I also feels attracted to him and want to enjoy a life of having kids and husband. I am 20 btw but I also gets thoughts like break up is the only solution or else i will die. I sometimes get panic attacks. I beg u to help me i cant afford therapy and cant back from this guy. Help me
I'm not him but i suggest you talk with your partner about the issues you're facing, and maybe try to work together on these issues. You could also postpone the marriage. I mean, that would be better than getting married in this emotional state.
Best luck to you!! I know it may feel overwhelming and scary but please remember that these thoughts are NOT real and OCD. I muslim too So please just keep up with du'a. And talk to your partner about this
All OCD therapy seems to amount to saying:: "If you have OCD, don't have OCD". ERP and other approaches all involve disregarding obsessions and refraining form engaging in compulsions., If we could do that, however, we would not have OCD.
@@stevej.7926 Yes, but whether you call it disregarding it or inviting it in, you are required not to react to it as your OCD compels you to react. That is great if you can do it, but it is still requiring you to act as if you did not have OCD.
I am stuck in religious ocd thoughts like why i m not god?Always why type questions arise in my head so kindly someone help me to overcome these thoughts thanks
ERP . write those irritable questions down . And observe them with no trying to compulse (do any compulsion) and let the uncertainty be there . With the time your brain would realize that compulsions aren't a solution and also that your fears aren't danger
If your OCD was a tv show, what would it look like?
Real event ocd is so hard to deal with
oh people would run away from cinema after watching that🤣
Remember Squid Game? Yeah, that one.

You’re awesome! I really wish the world of psychophysical pain/sensations would get wind of this approach. So much of chronic pain is caused by OCD.
