      It would be a Netflix series which ends on a cliffhanger, then it gets cancelled for season 2. Is that a negative attitude? Good job I don't have acute depression, ocd, and sleep anxiety, otherwise I would be fu..

      Same here sometimes. But you just have to always have this in mind that OCD is playing tricks on your mind thereby intriguing your anxiety. Just laugh over it and get urself occupied with other activities, the anxiety will go away on its own.

    When you talked about the shows and movies goals are to make you feel emotion/type of sensation, that really helped something click for me. Because I'm a fan of anime and it can be triggering for me and certain parts can make me start the "what ifs", or "did I?" But your explanation really helped me like "I get it now."

    For those struggling, know you can and will improve with proper action. I used to be stuck in a cycle of alcoholism to deal with my symptoms, either having a panic attack or intoxicated, throwing my life away. I was scared to hug my own mother or even interact with others. All that I did was drink and cry.
    In 2 years, I've dove into competitive bodybuilding and jiu jitsu as outlets. I'm engaged and legitimately happy. This illness never fully goes away, something that I've since accepted. You will struggle, you will cry, but you will still grow. From being suicidal to prosperous, know that things do get better. Bless you all.

    I can resist not doing the compulsions. Both physically and mentally. Hard part is when I don't do compulsions I lack joy and satisfaction - Feels like an unsolved very important problem remains in my head, even though I don't engage in it. I just can't endure living this way, that's why I do a compulsion in most cases.

    Hello Nate, thank you very much for your videos! In my case i have a whole set of *superstitions* (i can call 'em rituals by now), like that example knocking the door 3 times, also health anxiety/OCD kicks in sometimes and Dr .Google of course.
    I understand saying: "Go to town man, live a life..." but i live in a small, poorly developed "town" and I'm jobless, so i can't afford much for traveling. ERP works, but I can't say it's easy method, I'm doing it gradually.
    (even during writing this comment i had that weird feeling that I'm doing something i should not 😐)
    I love you all good people and i hope you recover from OCD much sooner and easier !!!

    just a question of ocd
    - remembering purposely & paying attention & ruminating purposely about 'repetitive and unwanted words' , And 'images' that we have that TRIGGERs anxiety is a form of mental compulsion that feeds the cycle and keeps it going ?

    • @angelamartin7885
      @angelamartin7885 20 дней назад

      Same here! Stopping the compulsion is the way out. I've been told to agree with thoughts and other therapists recommend letting the anxious thoughts play without getting involved with them. I'm not completely better, but ever since I learned to sit with the sensations without trying to get rid of it has helped.

    All OCD therapy seems to amount to saying:: "If you have OCD, don't have OCD". ERP and other approaches all involve disregarding obsessions and refraining form engaging in compulsions., If we could do that, however, we would not have OCD.

    • @stevej.7926
      @stevej.7926 15 дней назад +1

      ERP is confronting the fear. Inviting it in. Not disregarding it. The exact opposite, in fact.

    • @yorktownii6749
      @yorktownii6749 День назад

      @@stevej.7926 Yes, but whether you call it disregarding it or inviting it in, you are required not to react to it as your OCD compels you to react. That is great if you can do it, but it is still requiring you to act as if you did not have OCD.

      ERP . write those irritable questions down . And observe them with no trying to compulse (do any compulsion) and let the uncertainty be there . With the time your brain would realize that compulsions aren't a solution and also that your fears aren't danger
