    The air intake is a factory standard at least for turbodiesel W124, so at least 300D. I think like most W124's back here were diesel so really common to see that.
    That body is really nice! A bit of shame that they did a swap for such a nice body, but to be fair a good 300D isn't probably ever going to be worth big money.
    I would probably have rotated the throttle body so you didn't need to drill a hole in the hood. :D

    I've owned 7 w124s over the years and they are incredible cars. The LS swap looks really well done as well, as you suspected the biggest problem with swaps in these cars is the steering setup. Some people swap in a w210 steering rack but you lose some of the great steering feel that w124s have stock.
    I have a suggestion. Only Mercedes nuts truly understand the badging to begin with, so considering this is 5.3 swapped, this would be a 530E! You can glue a few old badges together and make a nice looking 530E badge, noone will know what it means unless they are a Mercedes fanatic.

    • @generalvoltage1821

I swapped in a Chrysler 300 diff and spliced axles to handle the power. I put flipped log style manifolds on mine and crossed the left pipe behind the engine, true duels with an H pipe routed in the factory position. My favourite projext of yours! Some thoughts: 1) you havent ruled out the sensor yet. When you pulled it out, it was suspiciously high on the scanner. Its a thin wire and should respond fairly fast. Either bench test the sensor you removed by heating it up with ar the same time as known good thermocuple/(cooking?) thermometer either on your bench or on the car. 2)you checked thatbthe pump is on when commanded but not when in use. Come up with a method to confirm power remains at the pump whilr drivinf ef back-probe with a small bulb, clear section of tube you can see while driving etc. 3) when you remove your shraders and reinstall you are introducing air. Get the right shrader tool or if you remove the core, keep your funnel open whine you are removing the hose and reinstalling. You will lose coolant but hopefully your reservoirnin thr funnel will drain out raher than it drawing in air.
    I went through something similar on my 2jz hitting boost cut early. Turns out somebody alonf the line had installed an MAP sensor frlm a camry. The calibration was different and when i bench trsted it againsfservice manual data it would have told the ECU ambient atmosphere was 7psi of positive boost! So i was hitting boost cut around 9-10psi. Both MAP sensors looked the same, part numbers were different....MB may have made a mistake on yours or perhaps you have wiring issue thats modifying thr circuits resistance too! You could consider back probing at the sensor itself and into the ECU to make aure the wiring is not an issue.

    You can pass an A/C vacuum test and still have a leak if the port valves are bad. The valves are normally under pressure and can leak but under vacuum they are sucked in and can make them seal, passing the test.

    The whole concept of trading up to eventually get to something really amazing, only works if you don't trade plus cash difference. The rules are straight swaps only.

  • @damonbaggs3296
    @damonbaggs3296 Год назад +36

    I guess I didn't understand the "trade up" concept. I thought the idea was to work out a deal where your getting something of "equal" value that may need some work to make it more valuable. So, when trading... the trade is "straight up" with no extra cash on top. In other words, I thought the concept was to pay for the "red paper clip" that ultimately is what you pay for on the final item traded.... for example a house on the beach in California. So, when you traded the cars plus paid an additional $4,000 on top of that your not "trading up"... But... I don't know... I've never practice this method... So, my limited understanding is probably wrong. Maybe you might get lucky and be able to trade up for something of higher value....maybe. But it would need to be at least worth 15k.... right?

    For me, I don't think the LS Swap is worth more than the HondaMercedes. When you swap up, you should be able to swap up and make money on the swap without using any of your own money - as the concept goes. Either way, LS should be an engine which will be easier to work on but the transmission does not seem it can manage the engine like the HondaMercedes. There is a Netflix show of a car shop which swaps up. No matter, as a long time fan, I have always liked your energy so whatever you do in your videos is always entertaining to watch.

The NA diesels (which were available in Europe), like my 300D, which has a factory 5 speed manual btw 😉, don't have that grill, unless they are the latest multivalve diesel engines, available from 1993 (the OM605 and OM606). Obviously somebody that built it knew what they were doing. Not a shadetree job at all. The gauges, exhaust, cylinder heads and coolers show that. Great that the other guy did the springs and shocks. Relocating the air intake to the grill is a no brainer. Maybe figure out how to get the A/C more like stock with a real button. Fix the lil oil leak. Maybe replace hood or fix it. @@Will_14_years_ago exactly, the 2.5 is a om602. the om603 turbo 3.0L was the best diesel engine in these cars since the om606 was N/A (and has puny rods so turboing them very much without upgrading the rods isn't advisable). The om606 turbo is fun and all but they are pretty expensive to modify

    AC belt is a common thing coming off. You can either get an upgraded AC tensioner (with additional tensioner/pulley wheel) or get a stretch belt and remove the existing tensioner all together. Belt gets thrown when the auto gearbox kicks down.

I'd delete the tablet cluster that looks jank, replace it with original, and maybe install a leather boot to dress up the shifter so theres not just a gaping hole in the middle of your interior and its great

      TBH like a real 500E is 40k in the US, and they are usually very well maintained, while this thing is a average spec'ed old 300D with a mystery box LS in it and questionable things done to it. So Id guess 20k is the best you could hope for. A 400E in good shape sells for around 20k, what i think is the best comparison for this thing. Its a definite upgrade to the Hondacedes tho.

    The vents are totally stock for the 300D. Down here they create 'superturbo' mods of the OM606 diesels up to 600hp. Power smoke is inevitable though. Mynädiesel mods the injection pumps and a large turbo or two will do the trick.
