      If you have a Vive already you can get the headset first ($599) and use your existing light houses and controllers, save up a bit get the index(Knuckles) ($280) controllers then your good unless you have a huge VR space then you'll need the new light houses another $200 or so. Just wait for reviews, no point rushing to a new product if you dont believe in it.
      Speaking for myself, i believe the claims, because in the end of the day its Valve, and they are very much about never making compromises, they do something to the best of their abilities, or not at all, combine that with great early reviews (like from the Tested channel) and you might have a better understanding as to why so many people are jumping aboard the bandwagon already.

I got my order through for the full pack in 5 min, my friends bank denied him, and by the time he had it sorted, it was about 10 past and the full package had sold out. He had already been contemplating keeping his 1.0 base stations, since he can't expand his play area at this time. So he got the HMD and Knuckles pack which hadn't sold out yet. Both should be arriving June 28th, but it will be interesting. With the original Vive, I got my preorder through 3 min after it went live on Feb 29th. That 3 min translated to it arriving 3 weeks after the release date. It looks like Valve compensated for this though, which is welcome to me. I waited for Valve Index so hard, saved extra money each month and after hearing the price tag I sold my old Rift and... preordered a rift s (which I never thought about in first place)... xD...
    I will try it, if it fits my needs. Only when I know: No, this is not mine, too low specs (or what ever), I will sell it and get myself a Index.
    But 1079€ are just too much in my opinion for a full starter kit...
    Maybe it get cheaper by time...

    It’s November 2022. I am watching your video here, after being a subscriber to your channel for more than 1 year. I pointed out because I am watching this because I just bought a valve index. I bought it because I have a quest to, but I wanted some thing with higher fidelity, as a PCVR machine. So it’s funny watching your last comments here at 11:28 as you reflect on how the VR market is hitting up with the rift. And while I have no words to say anything other we know the rest of Meta’s rollercoaster ride since then lol …. They, the Valve Index and Meta Quest, remain “the exciting” ones to watch (+Pico in the background). I know I’m about to have buyers remorse when I find out what valve has been up to, lol what they are going to replace the index with, and it looks to be soon. But I don’t. Watching your video 2 1/2 years later is testament to valve index. It is still some thing that is better than worth while 2 1/2 years later. There’s flaws, but nothing that’s going to kill it. Not like, say…, Oh, I don’t know… Quest pro? Lol.
    Thanks for this vid I really enjoyed it.
    A suggestion for something in the future would be stupid videos that walk through the interfaces of the quest to, steam, settings, menus, really boring stuff. But, for example, I had no fucking clue that there was pass-through on the valve index. I’ve had it for two months. Also, I didn’t even notice there was a little round button on the bottom of the front. That you could push that and turn on steam . That’s the kind of really boring level stuff that no one is covering. Just an idea!🎉

    I'm just getting into VR and holy crap this thing is expensive. I have a VR capable PC and I've been researching which one to get. The index is a very nice headset and has everything any consumer would want, but that price tag is outrageous for newcomers. I like how Mike said that Valve was targeting enthusiasts while Oculus was going more for ease of use and simplicity: I couldn't agree more with that statement. Personally I'll be getting the Rift S since I'm JUST getting into VR and well... this thing costs half my salary #college

      I'm in the same position, but I've been saving up for a long time with the intention of buying a VR set when something new comes out. Not gonna lie, it's honestly a bit more than I was willing to pay for, but it makes sense looking at what's inside of it. Just ended up biting the bullet and pray to God it'll be worth my money. The €1079 it costs is not an insignificant amount of money for me. At least I'll have something else to cry about if it's not as good as people were hoping for.

      As somebody beginning with VR, you made the best possible choice, you got a cheaper headset with less hassle to setup, whats not to like? :)
      You can always upgrade later if you end up loving VR and being able to save up for a 'more pc like' VR experience. Again, as somebody new to VR the Rift S is going to be awesome, you did well :P

    • @suicidalbanananana
      @suicidalbanananana 5 лет назад +1

      @Spicy Meatball "Not really worth chucking 1k+ at the index unless you have the cash to burn, imo" hits the nail right on the head, the Valve Index is aimed at enthusiasts with a budget to spend, if your new to VR its pretty logical to think of the Index as a pricey headset, and something like a Quest or Rift S would be a much better option.
      And thats exactly the difference between Valve and Oculus, Valve is still going for the enthousiast (like they did with the Vive) but Oculus has started trying to pull in the general public, both are great ways forward in their own right.

  • @suicidalbanananana
    @suicidalbanananana 5 лет назад +3

    - Did you pre-order an Index? -> Yes ofc, duh :P
    - What do you think of the prices? -> I think they're actually pretty fair, look at a Vive Pro, then look at a Valve Index, the latter should give you a much better experience for much less money, sure it would've been nice if the whole kit was below a 1000 bucks, but thats just not realistic to expect, its 'bleeding edge' high-end vr after all.
    - Is this going to be your first VR headset or are you upgrading? -> Upgrading from a Vive, so the backwards compatibility is amazing, as it saved me 300 bucks. Anyway as hyped as i am for the Valve Index i dont feel like its a good headset for somebody new to VR, not understanding what the hardware changes mean they will just think of it as an overpriced Vive, beginners should just buy a Quest or something and then if they end up liking VR sell the quest and buy a higher-tier desktop headset like this one.
    The thing alot of people dont seem to understand about the Valve Index is its goals:
    - This device is not made to complete with Oculus (VI is aimed at higher-end customers)
    - Nor do they try compete with Pimax (VI is aimed at LOWER-end customers)
    - And they likely are not even thinking about more headsets down the line. (while more may come if they deem it necessary to keep pushing VR forward, but they already said theyre not planning a family of devices like all of their competitors are)
    - Finally, they're not in it to make bank on the hardware, they are in it to make bank on future VR software sales on the Steam platform, they straight up admitted this since the first mention of the Vive, and they still openly say this now that they have their own headset.
    The goal of the Valve Index (just like the goal of the Vive at the time) is mostly to show other headset makers what is possible in this generation of VR (and with all these small updates amounting to a large improvement, the Index kinda kicked off generation 2 of VR, if all the current expectations people have are true anyway)

So if you ask me, the Valve Index actually _is_ next gen, while the Pimax was a fun (but expensive) way to look at the future of VR at best. Realistically we likely wont see such fov's again till generation 3 or 4, because its getting pretty clear that people want less screen-door-effect above anything else, and currently large fov's just means even more screendoor effect then on cheaper headsets.

    I hope Valve Index will be sold in my country for reasonable price..

    • @suicidalbanananana
      @suicidalbanananana 5 лет назад

      Idk what headset you're comparing too, but it has to be said that the Valve Index appears to be the first headset thats sold at a 1on1 price conversion, while companies like HTC shamelessly add a few extra 100 quid on the price 'because reasons', you can actually do the maths and figure out that the price they charge for a Valve Index in the US is the exact same as the price they charge for a Valve Index in Europe, the only reason there appears to be a price difference is because in the US they never show taxes on product prices, but in the EU they always do, once you include taxes on the US price, prices are 1on1 the same.
      A full Valve Index kit is €1079 in Europe, which is reasonable when you consider the Vive Pro costs €1400 in Europe, and the Valve Index hardware is a LOT more up-to-date compared to the Vive Pro that was just a resolution boost for a ridiculous price. Oh and a Vive pro headset costs €999 but a Valve Index costs 'only' €539, so yea, the Valve Index is definitely more reasonably priced

    PRAISE LORD GABEN!
    Index FTW! First batch pre-order status with headset, controllers, and virutallink. I'll grab LH2.0 later, my 1.0 works great.
    There is still a big NDA on something else about the Index, we won't know what it is and we don't know when that NDA will be lifted, so the news is not over!
    Crossing fingers for eye-tracking and foveated rendering. If not on the Index, then 100% for next kit.

    This would be my first VR headset. I tried a prototype occulas rift at a convention back in the day, it was awesome. I tried VR back in the 90s at an arcade which was super cool then too. I hope this brings either or both of those experiences back with the level of immersion.

      The vive also had a terrible strap without headphone. U need to add the 100$ delux audio strap on top to be comparable. 1000$ for the index is a fair price

      It is an enthusiast grade VR system. The headset costs $500, while the Pimax 5k+ (another enthusiast grade headset) $700. I would say the Valve Index build quality and features (except FOV) looks better. So. $500 does not look too much IMO. Also, another $500 for controllers and base stations seems too much. However, when you think about how many sensors Index controllers have, it does not look quite that expensive. Anyway, upcoming Pimax Sword controllers together with base stations are going to sell for $300. That could save you $200, but the quality may not be the same. I would suggest waiting for reviews (around beginning to mid July).
