As someone who owns every Quest headset made (including the 3S), I wish RUclipsrs would quit telling people that they should purchase the Q3 and not the 3S. I get what you mean, but the people you're talking to in these particular videos are an entirely different demographic. If someone has never desired to buy VR kit until the 3S that means they never thought it was worth it. The 3S is worth every penny. And then some. The value proposition for someone who knows nothing about VR is off the charts. For $300 they're getting the base model of the premiere headset on the market. They're getting a $50 game (Arkham Shadow) for free. If they use a referral code to buy they also get a $30 store credit. They get 3 free months of Quest's subscription service which now includes the AAA game Asgard's Wrath II. There's a BIG difference between $300 and $500 for most people. If they're only now tempted to buy into VR then quit telling them to wait and save nearly twice the amount for a Q3. If they end up enjoying the 3S they'll buy the premium model next time.

Ahhh I dunno about VR these days man. I've been a huge VR advocate since 2016, I own 7 HMD's from the original Oculus through to the Valve Index, 2 Vives, way too much. I've loved it, but recently I've lost the passion due to the tech being far too unreliable. Prime example, yesterday a friend came over with their 7yr old son and I thought I'd put him in the Quest2 and let him wave a light sabre around to get him into VR. I spent the morning updating the thing, got it tested and ready to go, everything was cool. Then when he came up to use it... the f*cking thing just refused to connect over Air Link even though it was fine 2 hours before. The controllers stopped working, the apps wouldn't launch, the Meta app froze and nothing I could do would get it working... I spent 30 minutes saying "hang on, just a minute let me try this" before he lost interest and walked off... and I don't blame him. And that is 100% typical of my experience when it comes to trying to use VR or show it off. It's rarely reliable and too frustrating. I can't be the only one either, but for me I've just lost patience with the entire concept of it. I also gave up mid way through that and attempted to use Vacation Simulator on standalone mode... but it spawned me in a compeltely unusable position and no amount of resetting the boundary or centering the view would get me in the right place. These stupid annoyances should not be a thing anymore after all these years, it should and needs to be seemless. I wonder how many people have missed out on VR and wrote it off because an attempted demo by a friend just wouldn't work.
Yeah VR is a hassle to get into, that’s why I don’t play VR as much anymore even though I used to play everyday. They’re these little problems that by themselves aren’t terrible but are so annoying all together. I wish it was easy for me to hop into VR and have everything work straight away but it almost never does. VR just needs to be more seamless when setting up imo
My biggest problem is the content. I need content to keep my engage. I've been in tue vr space for 8 years now and still some of the best go to games are the same exact games and or just a sequel to those preexisting games...
God I hope Deckard is competitive with Meta. Valve is the only company I can think of that can take them on, price to perf, due to making money on software sales through steam.
Yeah, having to save budget is good, but for best VR gaming experience, it is recommended to go for the best, which is Quest 3 headset that has better features, especally the pancake lenses.
Do the Anker Soundcore P10 allow passthrough charging on Quest 3/3S? There are some indications that pass through charging for these buds only works on the Q2.
Thanks for the review, mate. I'm glad my Q2 prescription lenses will fit this, but I wonder, will my Bobovr head strap I currently use on the 2, fit the 3S?
Good evening Mike great review on quest 3S I the question can you switch hands in game without going universal settings like the oculus go? I also saw your video that you are working on something called panic room 2080 games which is a mixed reality experience that include spiders I know you have a fear of spiders so I guess it was time to share it with the world ha ha have a good evening Mike.
Got a 3 the other day. Mixed Reality blew me away more than VR did. I was a bit disapponted to see the FOV is still pretty dismal. They need to be looking into getting rid of the binocular sight issue. I will admit tho, when I used this with my PC....the games looked so stunning i completely forgot about the binocular effect. Defo moving in the right direction now.
That cant change overnight. Tech moves fast but its not as if that sort of thing will suddenly leap forward in a few years and we suddenly feel we're in the matrix. That tech will be geting worked on hard and fast constantly.... theres likely advancements we're not even aware of yet, and we'll look back and laugh at these binocular style of lenses haha
Just started using my Q3 for ps5 remote play side loaded on it. Works amazingly. Good alternative if using a battery headstrap vs a capture card and the built in battery
I can absolutely see this as a problem, thankfully I don't use either of the jacks on my quest 1 (which yes is still my only headset) so it's not a big deal for me, but still should be an option
I have some Bluetooth earbuds with a low latency gaming mode. There are plenty of them in all different price ranges. They work fine. However, I normally just use the built in audio because I'm lazy and it's good enough.
Does the "low latency" mode override any barriers from the headset though? Thats the issue... the origin of the sound, not the earphones it eventually reaches
A much as i like the quest, i just cant use an lcd display. The comfort level still isnt good enough for my liking. Until oled comes back to vr and the comfort out of the box is massively improved, i wont get a quest and just stick with my psvr2
1 second latency on the only option for high quality audio is absolutely disgraceful im sorry. I was really thinking about getting the 3s until hearing that
Still have my Quest 1 and my quest 2. My Quest 2 has maybe 10hrs of play time on it....The features on the 3S seem nice but I have to remember how much I actually put my headset on now days...
This would be crazy with two people wearing identical costumes, one stands waiting for cars to drive by, the other waits on a separate road so people get that good ol' ghost scare
I'm looking to get the 3S as I don't own a VR headset but I'm worried about just how much space is taken by games but also movies I may want to put on the device. The no headphone socket is a concern as I'm going to use mine a lot to watch movies especially 3D movies on it. Knowing this is the 3S the right choice for me?
The 3S is a great headset to start with. Most games and movies won’t take up much space. You can always uninstall content you’re finished with. If you find yourself really enjoying VR and want to invest more for a better experience, the Quest 3 is the best option. Have fun! []-)
Way better. I upgraded from the Quest 1 to the Quest 3 is huge. Way less battery though which is a shame and the screens are not OLED. 😭 Other than those it's better in every way.
Both use LCD screens so not that huge difference in terms of image quality, only a bit sharper and clearer because of the of the pancake lenses on the original Quest 3, everything else is pretty much the same on both 3S and the original Quest 3. I personally would buy the 3S but i wouldn´t use any of them regularly after the first 2 weeks.
Any chance we could get a Quest 3 vs Quest 3s side by side microphone comparison? The Quest 3 had mic pop issues on release. I know they've been improving it in software, but I think they might have just improved the mic placement in the Quest 3s. So I'm curious is one or the other has a noticeably better mic.
as usual, great video. I had read that though the resolution is about the same as the Quest2, the visuals are better and the screen door effect is less? is that true, and how? Also you would think they would put good Bluetooth transmitter with AptX in the system. I used an external one on my Quest 2 for years.
It's the exact same screens and lenses. Visuals are better, but since the resolution is trash to begin with it's really not that big of an upgrade. The fact that Q3S reviews generally are significantly more positive than they were about the regular Q3 tells me that Meta is very likely pushing for these very positive reviews. They didn't want to make the same mistake of giving the 'reviewers' too much freedom since it backfired on them and the large companies tend to be the most guilty ones when it comes to using all kinds of constructions to manipulate reviews/impressions about their products (and Meta is one of the biggest in tech).
@@thenonexistinghero This is true. That's why Meta has Meta Ambassadors, so they can be bribed with early access in exchange for a better review. It's why i don't trust these RUclipsrs much any more. They used to be better before becoming Meta Ambassadors.
@@Temperjames there's a fan that is there to cool down the electronics - you access it by being able to remove the faceplate. Since I commented, I did indeed fix it.
between this or a pre owned psvr2 or quest 3, whats the best option? whichever i get id probably use it most on pc but i have a ps5 as well if i went for a psvr2
It’s honestly a tough call. GT7 is amazing. RE4 is also amazing. But Batman is only on Quest. Quest has got a lot more going on as Sony doesn’t seem to care much about VR sadly. Both are great headsets to be honest though.
Quest 3 in box on eBay is cheaper and there are loads of them, I will say there is a reason there are loads of them and no it isn't motion sickness. Quest headsets have bad user retention, The game quality isn't good enough and the tech isn't there yet which usually disappoints people looking for realism. I mean you are still getting games without shadows on characters. Not good enough.
I'm sorry to break your heart, but you were wrong when you said that the new Alien Rouge Incursion is only playable on Quest. It's available on PSVR2 as well and is gonna look amazing in that headset
I always think the most important thing to tell anyone about a VR headset is that you need a faster internet connection than mine, which still has to go through a copper wire because I don't have fibre and has a max download speed of 46mb/s. Consequently, the quest 2 is a pain and I rarely turn it on. I HAVE to attach it to a wire system attached to my pc to get anything playable, which is such a pain because you always twist the cable and it just doesn't function as a workable experience. When I do use it, which is very rare, it spends about 40 mins downloading updates and so I don't ever put it on. Until the UK can add Fibre into every house, these things are pretty useless for those of us, in town centres, who still cannot access fast speeds.
I've had an Oculus Rift for a long time, I bought it second hand not too many years ago (I had to sell it tho so I no longer have it in my possession) I've played it a lot tho and recently I was thinking about moving to a Quest 3, but was always put off by the price, I reckon this could be a good alternative, right? Cause, I mean, it's still gonna be better than the Rift, that headset had a pretty noticeable screendoor effect and was of course entirely dependent on cables to work, not to mention of course the need of external trackers, and I still had to connect my headphones to the PC with a long cable, so could this be worth it or should I just wait and see if I can find a Quest 3 second hand?
Check out Metas refurbished program. You can get 2nd hand Quest 3 for cheaper.. its insanely worth it. If you can save up for it, HIGHLY recommend you do so... the clarity of the pancake lenses alone will be worth it. Jumping into wireless PCVR is bonkers alone, buy I say hold out for a cheap 3 and then literally every component of your device will be a generation ahead.
im a pcvr gamer and have been using a rift s for about 4 years. i've been keeping up with vr trends since the quest 2, but havent thought about buying a new one. is it recommended to spend the crazy amount of money for the 3 and just get a meta link cable, or should i stick to my trusty rift s?
AM gonna buy it this year to play new games and BRINK Traveler i think the price for it is really good....quest 3 is 1400 in my money while the 3s is 850 so amma buy this one
so... it's more like a quest 2 pro, a bit confusing with the name making it sound like how playstations slim editions is (or at least used to be) the same console but slimmer and cheaper 2:27 is the slightly higher quality/fov in standard quest 3 super noticable or is it more like nice to have but while gaming it's not something you think about? no headphone jack is a bit eh... 9:35 did you test the usb c to 3.5mm solution and was it good and instant and didn't need fiddling with options or was it thrown in the script as more of a "it exists, probably" for people who could see it as a dealbreaker been thinking of upgrading from quest 1 so I assume this is a good option
the only reason i wanted to buy the quest 3 was due to its pancake lenses, and I didn't care much for the speed of the headset as I stream all my games from my computer, but didn't get one due to the price. so the quest 3s having the same resolution and lenses as the quest 2 is a bit of a bummer. I'll probably just wait for the Valve Deckard to replace my Quest 1
Second hand quest 3 or even on sites that still have the 128gb are for 350$ i think. I upgraded from Q2 to Q3 for lenses alone and I notice the change a lot.

Yeah feels like it died and we’re just clinging on as it drifts away
My biggest problem with it is battery life. It goes far too quickly.
My biggest problem is the content. I need content to keep my engage. I've been in tue vr space for 8 years now and still some of the best go to games are the same exact games and or just a sequel to those preexisting games...
Have you tried PSVR2? It is very pick up and play.
I've always loved your content Mike! Your videos have gotten me back into VR thanks for all the effort you put into these!!
God I hope Deckard is competitive with Meta. Valve is the only company I can think of that can take them on, price to perf, due to making money on software sales through steam.
good video but do have to correct you on Alien Rogue Incursions. The game will also be coming out for steamVR as well. Super hyped for it :D
Yeah, having to save budget is good, but for best VR gaming experience, it is recommended to go for the best, which is Quest 3 headset that has better features, especally the pancake lenses.
Hey Mike, are you going to review the new HTC Vive Focus Vision? I'm really curious to hear about your opinion!
I just ordered mine. Been using an htc vive for years
Nice video
Cancelled my order from amazon and used your link, its gonna arrive sooner, and I'll get a 30 dollar credit. Thank you!
Do the Anker Soundcore P10 allow passthrough charging on Quest 3/3S? There are some indications that pass through charging for these buds only works on the Q2.
I'll be interested in upgrading when eyes tracking becomes the standard. Also, motion sickness is a big issue for me
Thanks for the review, mate.
Finally, an honest review despite the comp headset. Other youtubers take note
Honest but lacking key points. You have to pull him up slightly on that
Got a 3 the other day.
Does the 3s have cloud gaming
good complete review
Just started using my Q3 for ps5 remote play side loaded on it. Works amazingly. Good alternative if using a battery headstrap vs a capture card and the built in battery
I'm getting one meta quest 3s VR , this brilliant technology stuff with everything etc
Damn no 3.5 might be a deal breaker for some
it is for me.
@@KisameSempai why?
I can absolutely see this as a problem, thankfully I don't use either of the jacks on my quest 1 (which yes is still my only headset) so it's not a big deal for me, but still should be an option
Then just get a right angle USB c to 3.5 mm jack adapter
@@xtreme_vr Can't use a power bank, then.
HEY, I'm buying this to replace my quest two
Save some money and buy the quest 3
@@msms-rd6usits like double the money tho
@@Ayaz-Beans That's not even close to being true.
@@Temperjames what did i say i cant find the comment
@@Temperjames its close enough its a 66% price increase
I have some Bluetooth earbuds with a low latency gaming mode. There are plenty of them in all different price ranges. They work fine. However, I normally just use the built in audio because I'm lazy and it's good enough.
Does the "low latency" mode override any barriers from the headset though? Thats the issue... the origin of the sound, not the earphones it eventually reaches
A much as i like the quest, i just cant use an lcd display. The comfort level still isnt good enough for my liking. Until oled comes back to vr and the comfort out of the box is massively improved, i wont get a quest and just stick with my psvr2
Meta is realising incredibles products!!
Hey Mike you should live stream the breachers tournaments also I love your vids❤🎉
When are we getting your review on the pimax crystal light or your thoughts on the new pimax super coming soon
9:33 ain't there USB-C pass through plugs which allows you to use an adapter and charging at the same time.
Apparently there is! So there is a workaround if you need it []-)
1 second latency on the only option for high quality audio is absolutely disgraceful im sorry. I was really thinking about getting the 3s until hearing that
Still have my Quest 1 and my quest 2. My Quest 2 has maybe 10hrs of play time on it....The features on the 3S seem nice but I have to remember how much I actually put my headset on now days...
Please make a video of how well quest 3 accessories work on 3s
Getting mine tomorrow :3 Are you already allowed to post reviews on the new headset ? I thought official release date was on Oct. 15
I think meta provided it
some youtubers get sent headsets like 1 day early in a reviewer's bundle with accessories
thanks mate
This would be crazy with two people wearing identical costumes, one stands waiting for cars to drive by, the other waits on a separate road so people get that good ol' ghost scare
Only issue I keep seeing with vr is a lack of quality titles to keep me interested I play the new ones then it just sits there for months
Yeah, getting the 3 not 3s, since im upgrading from the quest 2, and u use pcvr I wanted a noticabke change
Have fun! []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis why doesn't your affiliate link give the credits
can it play SLR - passtrough videos ? pls help, this is my main priority about this product
Yes lol
the most technical VR headset ive used was the original PSVR how much does the screen quality and user experience differ?
My first headset was the Quest 1, how big are the changes on the Quest 3 and 3S?
BIG, very big difference
Question 3 is the best one. The 3s is a low budget version, they downgraded the lenses and quality. The 2 and 1 are obsolete
Huge. Definitely worth the upgrade
My fan stopped working on my Quest 2 - If I can't fix it, maybe this or splurge for the 3 non S for Holidays.
I'm so confused.... what fan do you mean... I know its a typo or something but I cant figure it out!
@@Temperjames there's a fan that is there to cool down the electronics - you access it by being able to remove the faceplate. Since I commented, I did indeed fix it.
What should i consider buying if i have rift s which stoped working with meta app update and almost no money?🤔
Quest 3S or if you don’t mind a second hand Quest 3 []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis thanks
Would you recommend buying this if I already have a Pico 4? Planning to sell my Pico 4 for this.
The game library and general overall quality of the experience is way way better []-)
between this or a pre owned psvr2 or quest 3, whats the best option? whichever i get id probably use it most on pc but i have a ps5 as well if i went for a psvr2
It’s honestly a tough call. GT7 is amazing. RE4 is also amazing. But Batman is only on Quest. Quest has got a lot more going on as Sony doesn’t seem to care much about VR sadly. Both are great headsets to be honest though.
I though of getting the 3S but i kept hearing about the pancake lenses i rather spent the extra for a refurbished 3.
Yes, it's miles better.
@@Reprogrammed_By_SEGA
Im already played VR before. I know what im getting into 😅
don't, quest 3 is over rated.
Hi there, Mike! I have a question. Is this headset capable of running VRChat?
Yes []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis I see.
I'm sorry to break your heart, but you were wrong when you said that the new Alien Rouge Incursion is only playable on Quest. It's available on PSVR2 as well and is gonna look amazing in that headset
It cannot be played on quest 2. His statement is accurate.
Can you use the Quest 3 elite battery strap connection with those Anker earbuds?
I am new to VR but leaning towards the Quest 3. I am abit concerned I might not get the sweet spot in 3S. what is your take on this?
That's nothing to worry about. You will find the sweetspot.
Thanks Mike.
I have ordered a 3s 512gb from currys online damaged box £297 so hopfully this works ok with Glasses
3s…. 512gb? HUH
im a pcvr gamer and have been using a rift s for about 4 years. i've been keeping up with vr trends since the quest 2, but havent thought about buying a new one. is it recommended to spend the crazy amount of money for the 3 and just get a meta link cable, or should i stick to my trusty rift s?
Rift S ? Fr?
My link cable broke within the first few months, but then again I can only talk from personal experience. I would just use wireless connection
AM gonna buy it this year to play new games and BRINK Traveler i think the price for it is really good....quest 3 is 1400 in my money while the 3s is 850 so amma buy this one
Will you do the htc vive focus vision nxt??
so... it's more like a quest 2 pro, a bit confusing with the name making it sound like how playstations slim editions is (or at least used to be) the same console but slimmer and cheaper
2:27 is the slightly higher quality/fov in standard quest 3 super noticable or is it more like nice to have but while gaming it's not something you think about?
no headphone jack is a bit eh... 9:35 did you test the usb c to 3.5mm solution and was it good and instant and didn't need fiddling with options or was it thrown in the script as more of a "it exists, probably" for people who could see it as a dealbreaker
been thinking of upgrading from quest 1 so I assume this is a good option
I got meta quest for Christmas
Can I ask what memory size is best for first time user (8yr.old), how many games can the lowest memory facilitate
The 128gb is plenty. Average game size is around 4-10gb each []-)
On the Meta Developer video about the 3S, they said the 3 and 3S will be getting Android 14, which will minimize the Bluetooth audio latency
Fingers crossed, it resolves the audio latency []-)
you think it is just okay to use it while charging?
Yeah, if you have a long enough cable so you don’t get tied up []-)
the only reason i wanted to buy the quest 3 was due to its pancake lenses, and I didn't care much for the speed of the headset as I stream all my games from my computer, but didn't get one due to the price. so the quest 3s having the same resolution and lenses as the quest 2 is a bit of a bummer. I'll probably just wait for the Valve Deckard to replace my Quest 1
Or just buy a second hand Quest 3 for about the same price as a new 3S.
Second hand quest 3 or even on sites that still have the 128gb are for 350$ i think. I upgraded from Q2 to Q3 for lenses alone and I notice the change a lot.
Still waiting on the deckard huh 😂
