      Lots of coffee makers are bought by tea drinkers as well, but now the electric hot water pots are available, so they can now manage one cup at a time if they prefer! But then there’s the Loose Leaf to contend with, & using the coffee maker to make the tea that will become Iced tea, IF Iced tea drinkers haven’t bought the Ice tea Makers, or just do it the “old Fashioned way” by making tea on the stove!!! Can’t leave out Sun Tea either!!! It gets to be rather daunting to deal with all the choices & pricing of everything,& Now with Reviews availability on Anything these days-I Dread having to buy a replacement for some appliance that has died!!!

      The one drawback to top loading washing machines is I think they're more susceptible to breaking when they're overloaded. I know, just don't overload it... But what I'm saying is that a front loading machine is more forgiving in that regard.

    • @AudraT
      @AudraT 3 месяца назад +2

      Front load machines are susceptible to mildew because water has a tendency to stay in that little drainage area in the front. You have to leave the lid open so the water evaporates. Top load machines don't have this problem.

I think one reason is because it reminds us how good we do have it here in the U.S., and helps us appreciate the everyday things we take for granted. Another reason, I think, is because the country is so damn big, we love watching videos about the U.S. along with you about places we've never been to and stuff we've never seen before.

    • @pjschmid2251
      @pjschmid2251 9 месяцев назад +8

      Just for clarification, since I am from the Chicago area and have lived here my entire life, having a separate dehumidifier is not typically seen in this area; generally the air conditioner takes care of that for you which is why they usually have a small drip line going to the drain for collected condensation. You will, however have a humidifier to add humidity to the air during heating season since it gets very dry. Even when I was younger and living in old apartments that used radiators, we would put a pan of water on the radiator to evaporate moisture into the air (a poor man’s humidifier).
      All that being said what Lawrence was showing was not a humidifier, nor was it a dehumidifier. It was an air filter. He’s still learning about his own house. He’s only lived there a few months at this point. 😂

    The standard drip coffee makers used to be almost universal for American homes. But now there is a much bigger variety, from Kurig machines, Nespresso machines, French Press or even actual espresso machines. Top-loading washing machines have the advantage of washing clothes much faster and tend to be more reliable. The downside is that they are harder on clothes and use a bit more energy.

  • @btnhstillfire
    @btnhstillfire 9 месяцев назад +24

    Imo the most important ac/heat appliance is the ceiling fan. They have a switch at the base to reverse blade rotation. Normal rotation pushes air down creating a cooling effect. Reversing the blades causes the fan blades to push the air UP which actually causes the room to heat up a few degrees. This is key to keeping power bills down. Running a ceiling fan costs a fraction of the price as turning on ac or heat.

    Most of us don't use duvets and duvet covers. They are sold here, but blankets/quilts are more common. We need bigger clothes washers and dryers to clean our bed covers. That's probably not the only reason for the larger appliances, but it's surely a factor. A dehumidifier is often used in the basement. We set up a hose and it drains automatically. You would not believe how much water is pulled from the air, at least 4 liters a day at times. Some people have sump pumps in their basements here. Those are to prevent the basement from flooding. Underground floors get very damp in my state. The sump pump constantly pumps water, and if the power fails, the basement floods. Kind of terrible. I'd hate to need one instead of the dehumidifier.

    Actually, the advantage of a separate dryer is the time savings...this is especially helpful for those with many children and many loads of laundry. While the dryer is drying the first load the washer is washing another. In tight apartments, separate washers and dryers are stacked, both front loaders, and can be located in an area the size of a closet...washer on bottom, dryer on top. In the U S appliances come in man sizes and configurations. Unfortunately, many manufacturers have located their companies in China and the quality has gone down...our old refrigerators could last more than twenty years...today, not so much.

    • @anthonyramirez9925

    Front loaders don't last as long as top loads. I realized that their parts are fighting gravity with each load and end up breaking. They take WAY longer to wash than a top load. The one I have now is top load without an agitator, so there's more room for clothes. It senses the amount of laundry and regulates the water level automatically, so I never have to worry about forgetting to set the water level.

    Dehumidifiers (which you did say correctly) are important for basements, since ground water can seep in, making it damp and musty. They are also popular in the SouthEast, due to the almost constant high humidity. However, entire-house air conditioning not only cools the house, but helps "dehumidify" it. One of the oddest things I discovered on my first trip to Europe was how good the coffee is, but also how bad the coffee is. In coffee shops/pastry shops, the coffee is better than anything in the US. However, I learned that most people at home make instant coffee (the kind you scoop into the cup, add hot water, and stir). Not a real brewed coffee. We're such a coffee family, I have a French Press, as that's my preference, while hubby has a Keurig. I've only ever had a top-load washer. I've heard from friends with front-load that they can get moldy. Never had that problem with a top load. However, the dryer is a different machine (don't know how y'all get a two-in-one washer AND dryer!), and we had to get a front load for that because the cat's food is on top of it. So you have to reach in, grab wet garments, then swing around and toss them in the front of the dryer. Not sure it's any easier from a work perspective.

    The first washing machines were top loading machines shaped like drums. There were no dryers. Ours had two horizonal rubber rollers that you rolled wet clothes between to squeeze the excess water out and then hung the clothes out to dry on a clothes line in the sun. Americans with front loaders have giant versions that are close to the capacity of the dryer. You can wash all your bedding, slipcovers and throw rugs, which won’t fit in the top loader.

    To follow up on humidifier in basements etc… modern homes typically have basements with pour concrete floors and walls of pour concrete, or concrete block …. But there is a drainage system built in… all around the house porous gravel is filled in next to those basement walls with drain tile at the bottom… …. Most of it drains away but some of it actually drains toward the house to a cistern in the basement… like a shallow well. Within that well a submersible pump is installed and the water is then pump out and away from the house fare enough that the slope of the landscape allows the water to flow away….
    Added benefit is that even if hooked up to a city sewer system this cistern and pump system is available when other water related mishaps could cause water damage and mildew…. Leaks, etc….

    I used a combination washer/dryer while in a business apartment. It took hours to wash and dry one load! It was an Electrolux brand machine. I also experienced a combination machine at a laundromat in Brussels. Again, it took forever! The advantage of two separate units is you can wash a load and dry a load at the same time. When I was a child, in the late Fifties, we had a washing machine that hooked up to the kitchen faucet. My mother hung clothes to dry on a clothesline in the backyard. As long as I have been an adult, the houses I have lived in have had dedicated laundry rooms. Americans truly have too many clothes to wait over an hour for one load.

    A dehumidifier is very much similar to an air conditioner. It runs the humid air over cooled metal coils, and the moisture condenses on them, to drip into a container of some sort (or directly into a drain). As with any air conditioner, the excess heat created in the refrigeration cycle has to be disposed of somewhere, and in the case of a dehumidifier it heats the now-dried air back up to a something close to room temperature.

  • @Mscoffeeforu2
    @Mscoffeeforu2 9 месяцев назад +2

    Depending on where you live will determine if you need/use a dehumidifier. I grew up in California and we didn't use them, but here in Texas it's a requirement. LOL. I hate feeling sticky.
    I don't know a person who doesn't have a coffee maker. I too have 2 of them. I also have a spare chest freezer in the garage. Refrigerator freezers are too small.
    Most people here shop for at least a weeks worth of food, hence the extra freezer space.
    I have a front loading washer and front loading dryer in my laundry room. We don't have basements in Dallas Texas that I'm aware of. Laundry rooms are essential, especially if you have a large family. Yes, my washer and dryer can wash a king size comforter. It's enormous. I love them.

    Your English is easily understood. Of course you have an accent, but I have no problem understanding you perfectly. ☺️
    Texas is a great place to visit when you come over. DON’T come in July or August, if you like breathing. The heat, with the humidity is almost unbearable. We stay in the A/C during those months because this heat can cause serious dehydration, heat stroke, etc.

    the in door water dispenser takes longer to fill your cup because the water is being filtered to remove chlorine and chlorine and other impurities , the water for the ice maker is also filtered. Coffee is life and yes almost every American home has one or more coffee makers in it , we also have garbage disposals in our sink that you can scrape the uneaten food off of your plate and it macerates it and it goes into the sanitary sewer , this is very handy before putting your dishes in the dish washing machine that most American homes also have in the kitchen.

    US here! Our first dishwasher and washing machine was stored in a corner of the kitchen and had to be connected to the sink to be used. We eventually got a washer and dryer set up in the basement, so it was just the dishwasher. In the US, the larger the land, the smaller the house, in general. You get rich people with massive houses, and you get multiple generation homes, but most Americans who buy land start with small homes.

    I have lived up and down the east cost of America, and now am on the West Cost near L.A. while many Americans may have dehumidifiers in thier homes the only ones that I lived in that we had them in, were ones with basements. We put them in the basement because that was where the moisture would collect the most, and we didn't want mold to grow. Out here in the desert we have a humidifier called a swamp cooler that can be used on days with low humidity to cool your home.
    There are multiple different types of coffee makers. The one Laurence is showing off is a multiple cup coffee maker. So you can make anywhere from 2 - 10 cups of coffee at the same time depending on the model you got. Single serve coffee makers are also popular here. It depends on how many people in the house drink coffee, how they like it made, and if they are o.k. with "stale" coffee for later in the day.
    As some who primarily drinks water, having the refrigerator filer my water, cool it, and provide ice is heavenly.
    Most of our houses have a laundry room or hook up in the garage/basement. On occasion you will find the odd house where the hook ups are in the kitchen. Now when my family lived with hook ups in the kitchen we made a custom removable counter top to go over the washer and dryer to give more counter space but keep our top loader. It is not unusual to be able to wash and dry at home comforters and blankets that are ment for an American King bed in your home. The appliances are that big.
    Great vid ❤

    1 - I consider a coffee maker essential. I love mine. It is very convenient. Very fast -- big deal in the morning. Makes good coffee. And it is CLEAN, no coffee grounds to clean. Toss the pod. .... On dehumidifiers, I lived on the Pacific coast in an older house. There was so much humidity in the air, that mildew was common. I used a dehumidifier and it was amazing how much water was collected in the container that I poured out daily. Bye-bye mildew.

    16:47 - They actually do sell combo washer+dryer units in the U.S., and they all suck. That's why everyone uses a standalone dryer (with a vent to the outside). I've noticed that Samsung has just come out with a new model to take another stab at it, so maybe they found a way to improve them, but I haven't seen any reviews yet. The vent is essential to making a tumble dryer dry quickly and efficiently. Otherwise it has to run a lot longer, which uses more energy.

  • @JDoors
    @JDoors 9 месяцев назад +2

    Top-load clothes washers are generally less efficient. They use more water (the clothes are covered or nearly covered with a tub full of water), the back-and-forth action of the tub generally doesn't clean as well as a washer that is constantly tumbling the clothes, and they can't spin as fast so they don't extract as much water after the wash cycle is complete (the entire machine is subject to wobbling if the load is not evenly distributed), which means more dryer time. However, that dryer! You could throw soaking wet clothes in there and it will dry to whatever level of dryness you select in a very short time (the 'enormity' of the machine means it can move a LOT of heated air through the drum, and hence through the clothes).

    • @khure711
      @khure711 9 месяцев назад +2

      Front load washers tend to break easier at the drum shaft. Who would’ve thought all that water and wet clothes tumbling around puts to much stress on the shaft turning the thing.

  • @AttackChefDennis

    The side loading washing machine is more efficient on water because it only fills up a little bit of the drum to pass the clothes through a top load fills half the drum with water and then that water is lost

    Front load washers have the ability to be very efficient with water, and very sparing with soap, and accomplish excellent results. Top load machines are generally much stronger than front loading consumer-grade washing machines and work as well for blankets and coats as for shirts and pants.
    Combination units are common in apartments, but here they will mostly be over and under separate chambers for washing and drying (drier on top). Units that look like dishwashers and do both functions in the same chamber are much less common.
