I am a current member of this marching band! Thank you so much for the awesome reaction, it’s always fun to see people from other countries reacting to our shows!
I’m an alumni of the FSU Marching Chiefs and we have a lot of respect for y’all. Great job!
When do you folks have time to eat, sleep, and study when you must be spending hours upon hours practicing for these shows? I've watched a lot of the OSU band videos and you guys kill it.
Me and my family are HUGE Buckeye fans and love the best dam* band in the land. You all do such an amazing job EVERY year!! So much respect. ❤
Noah, I'll be seeing you in South Bend in a few months! Good Luck, my little buckeye...All in fun, but I hope we beat your ass. You gotta love rivalries!!
O H
As a graduate of The Ohio State University, I am so happy that you enjoyed our marching band!
LOVED it!!
I’m from Ohio our marching band is amazing they do different concepts and it is during halftime
O! H!
I! O!
@@robing35 I! O!
They perform a different show for each home game! Massive respect-learn the music, learn the choreography and keep up their grades.
Right, most schools only do this for homecoming.
I did two out of three when I was in the Michigan State Spartan Marching Band as a freshman. Learned the music, learned the moves, and almost failed my music theory course. No more SMB for me!
@@auntiem873 More than a few high schools in Ohio do the same thing (new show every home game) and have for many years, and plenty have a "Script (something related to their school)" in their repertoire due to the OSU influence, too.
As an Ohioan I can confirm this is the best damn band in all the land! Nothing else like it. Besides the football team it is the pride of Ohio. OH!!
I O !!!!!!!
103,000 people in the stands and the best damn band in the land. My kids music teacher dotted the i in OHIO at the rose bowl in 2013.
As a former band student who marched in a high school band and college band I can honestly say it is terribly difficult to learn your music as well as learn where you have to be on the field but I would ❤️ to be part of it all over again.
Respect!!
I would do it again too... In four years we grew from 16 to 149 people, and went from not being considered for a trophy to winning competitions. It was a blast!
We were 350 strong in high school 100 million years ago haha. But the teamwork and dedication was worth every sore muscle and trophy won during competition
Had an absolute Blast! in marching band. Some of the best times of my life
I was also in high school band... you're right. We practiced half time routine Monday thru Thursday mornings and after school Thursday afternoon to be ready for Friday afternoon game.
As a Buckeye, I love seeing you guys watch this. I feel like its also worth mentioning that Ohio vs Michigan is the biggest rivalry in college football.
So glad you enjoyed our show! The Ohio State University Marching band is known as TBDBITNL (The Best Damn Band in the Land) But the pride of the Buckeyes is a good choice for second! The band practices year round. The music is memorized so no messing with sheet music.
GO BLUE! 〽️

Texas band director here. Glad you enjoyed the show. The band works really hard to provide halftime shows. These are musician athletes. A lot of work on the instrument and a ton of time learning drill in various weather conditions really gets them in shape. Marching band is not for the lazy. Band students are awesome people. Their level of commitment is extremely high and their payout is having a great performance. That appreciation from the audience or the ratings from a band contest is second to none. Ohio State is a great university band program. There is a ton of tradition and pride there. When you come to the U.S. you need to go to a college football game (if it is in the Fall when you visit). The whole experience is awesome.
I was in marching band during high school....I'm so glad that people are starting to see it as a sport in the sense of how much work and dedication goes into them.
I had the same thought. From start to finish going to a college football game would be an experience to remember.
@@lisataylor8657 I one hundred percent agree I remember the amount of practices and early mornings just to be told its not an actual sport.
When you see college marching bands perform you realize how good these students really are. These bands should be playing the half time shows of the super bowl instead of the crap they put on now.
As an Ohioan. Really love the Half times shows for my favorite team.
Thanks for the support shown to our Buckeyes.
The OSU Marching Band is phenomenal! The tribute to Michael Jackson is unreal. These shows are performed during halftime of the football game. Thanks for the reaction!
Here's the MJ Tribute video: ruclips.net/video/RhVAga3GhNM/видео.html
Michael Jackson moonwalks again!
This past season they graciously invited the University of Iowa marching band to join them in a tribute to Elton John. It was very cool.
As resident of the city in which this school is located, I can tell you that seeing the band in person is even more impressive!
I love how impressed you were at the straight lines at the beginning. I was like, “dude, they’re gonna be a moving dinosaur eating someone in a couple minutes”. Lol
At Ohio State the marching band is respected as much as the football team. It as well as other colleges is a culture that is ingrained in every fan and student. A well known tradition of The Ohio State marching band is the ramp entrance with script Ohio. Defiantly a much watch but it can be a little long.
Thank you for everything that you do. You have brought so much joy to many people. It is a true blessing to watch your family grow.
Everybody wants to be the tuba player who gets to dot the i.
I’m 65 and the script Ohio is what I remember as a kid! I can’t believe they stopped showing halftimes during broadcasts of the games. Great to see the much deserved appreciation of the bands because of RUclips.

I'm a Michigan fan, but I really enjoy this halftime performance, and I especially enjoy watching people in other countries react to it. The OSU marching band also did a performance at Wembley, as well as a tribute to Michael Jackson. You should check those out, too.
You’re not a Michigan fan if you’re praising anything that God forbidden school does
4:25 The band normally comes out during Half Time which is a break between the 1st and 2nd half of the game for the players and the fans. The band comes out to give a 'show' to everyone while the fans get their food, drinks, and wait until the beginning of the 2nd half of the game starts after Half Time. We normally practice the music in the band hall until we get that down by heart before practicing our movements on the field. Also, the band begins practice during the summer and has 'charts' which show the football field (or parking lot for when I was practicing in band). These charts would have dots on them where you are supposed to be at every measure or so, or just were big pieces are (depends on the music/performance/director). We go through each section of the performance over and over and over again until we are perfectly in line, on time, and in sync. You can spend hours out on the field practicing the same section over and over again. If you don't practice that much, you are liable to miss your steps, placement, or even step/fall on someone. One person out of place can ruin the whole picture so we need to have it drilled into our heads until it becomes muscle memory. (P.S sorry for the long rant)
Georgia girl here and will always be one, but I must say I have always loved the Ohio State marching band shows. Marching bands are important part of football games.
We would love to see one in person one day!
@@yournewzealandfamily Y’all would absolutely love it! They make going to college football game even more memorable. When y’all come to America, you definitely got to go to one, and me being I Georgia girl, I would highly recommend a UGA game.
@Southern Girl Jess Much respect to your Dawgs. Hoping we might see a part 2 to that game earlier this year, sometime soon in the playoffs again :)
USC man here. Love our Trojan marching band but I have to admit that OSU's formation choreography is insanely good.
wish they would do this for the super bowl half time for the top 3 marching bands in the country, instead of the garbage they do today
I am now 63 years old, but when I was in high school I was fortunate enough to be the trumpet soloist from 1974 - 1977. I attended a small high school in North Carolina, USA. Our band consisted of about 100 musicians plus about 30 drill team members. In this video, the statement was made about this being a whole other sport. From what I experienced, there was not one single member of the band that could play football, but I dare to say that there was not one single football player that could do what we did. During marching season, we practiced after school, Monday through Thursday for 3:30 to 7:00. We then performed a pregame and half-time show at a Football game every Friday night, then did parades and competitions on Saturdays. In my opinion, marching band members are just as much athletes as the football players. We were just trained in a different sport.
I was in the color guard in a marching band at a North Carolina high school, but in the early 00s. Great times 🙂
Also wanted to add, most marching bands have set sheets that show the placement of each band member for each set. Each person has a unique number on the field. We use the yard lines, hash marks, and sidelines to mark off our exact location. Between each set is a certain number of counts that tell the band member how many steps to take to get to their next set, and these counts correlate with the counts in the music. The standard step size is called “8-5” because we take 8 steps in 5 yards, but of course that is adjusted for each set and show, depending on your spot.
Marching Bands are traditional for high schools and universities in the US. The on field student director is called the Drum Major. The members are both artist and athlete. I loved being in my high school marching band.
Huge Ohio State fan here! Thank you for reacting to this ❤ We call our band "The Best Damn Band In The Land" or TBDBITL. They perform epic shows like this at every home game at half time. Their tribute to Michael Jackson is one of my favorite performances.
Love love love this channel and look forward to each time a new video drops. You guys are so awesome and joyful in a time that this type of content is so needed!!
Also...the Buckeyes and the Wolverines are arch enemies. O-H!
i came here to mention the tribute to Michael Jackson too.
@@3D_foos Me too. The Michael Jackson tribute is their best ever...although, script Ohio...that holds a special place in my heart.
I-O
I-O! As a former student and now a coach of their bowling team, I can attest for the hard work and dedication these students put into the show. Not only do they have a full days worth of classes but also spend 4-6 hours a day rehearsing. The show changes weekly. Another fun fact about the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio St, we change all the street signs from Michigan to ❌ichigan. We cross out the M with red tape. The band does have a RUclips channel as well.
I-O
So glad The Ohio State marching band was showcased. They are truly impressive.
I was an alto sax in high school in Texas, and then marched for UT-Arlington. Marching band is serious. If someone collapses, you keep formation and step over them and march with a hole in the formation. You have to have your music completely memorized as well as your spots on the field, which are broken down to specific points in the music. You start on your left foot and everyone is in sync until it's over. It also counts as a Phys Ed credit. Marching band is a sport unto itself.
Sadly, my high school had an amazing marching band (I played Flute, honestly the worst instrument to march) and the entire town always said we were the pride of the school along with our girls basketball team, but the school was always trying to take away our funds and even removed the PE credit bonus that was normally given when you participated in marching band. We lost so many band members because of that, they just didn’t have time in their schedule. Most took up other sports like track or dance and still had to find time to practice, go to work, and do their homework while also participating in speech and theater. Some of my classmates were insane, but they were great people.
Doing marching band since i was old enough to do so is what led me to my future as a music educator and OSU marching band is probably one of the top college bands in the states. AMAZING performances and huge inspiration to young musicians. Love that yall enjoyed it!
NEED to see...
The band either performs as one unit or divides into two marching units for:
Performing the script 'Ohio'. One unit is amazing. Two units performing in synch is simply over the top. Kudos is due to precise practice, endurance, stunning skills, excellent timing!!
I was born and raised in central Ohio. I second that!
When band alumni return for first home game of the year, There are four Scripts Ohio done at same time. I believe there videos on youtube, search for Ohio State Alumni band. Have a good day!
I marched for 8 years in both high school and university. All great memories, some of the best times of my childhood. Now over 25 years later, I love watching the OSU Band videos. Their show choreographers are on another level. I can only imagine how much fun they are to perform. Simply TBDBITL!
My dad was a marching band director and I can’t wait to send this to him. He is going to love this so much.
THANK YOU for appreciating competitive matching bands!!! It is really a sport and an art!

I grew up in Ohio and was born and raised a buckeye! They are the best darn band in all the land!!! Their games and performances are unlike any other team!
We definitely love our marching bands in the US. Kids usually start playing in grade 5 or 6 in school and continue on through middle school, high school and then college. It becomes more than just a hobby. Musicians dedicate hours upon hours of practice time per week. I am 50 years old now and have to say it was the best time of my entire life.
I've always loved watching OSU's marching band. Never a dull moment.
I did marching band in high school in the early 90s and while we did designs, they were far more simple. It was a lot of work even then, so it's hard to imagine just how much longer to took to get this right.
The best damn band in the land!
It is so interesting to watch someone watch this spectacle for the first time. Most of us have been watching and/or doing this our entire lives. Our high school band director choreographed our routines. They weren't quite THIS elaborate, of course, but we put our hearts as well as a lot of practice into it.
First time commenter… Been following your family for a couple of years and I am falling with how much you are falling in love with our US customs. We are a weird bunch but you are embracing it like a champ! Goodness I cannot wait for your family to visit the US and pray we treat you so well!
The OSU band is simply incredible!! Always entertaining! Look for a video as they perform Script Ohio. Heartwarming to every Ohio State alumni. I graduated way back in 1974 (49 years ago) & still enjoy watching the band.
It's been almost 30 years since I performed in a marching band, but seeing great performances like this never gets old!
The marching band comes in during half-time, the 12 minute break in the middle of the game. For the Super bowl they have a half time show with a celebrity collaboration instead.. Marching band was awesome when I did it, and you get multiple maps per formation and a number, on the bottom of the map, it has the number of steps your supposed to take to transition and where in the music that transition is. You learn the spots and music separately, and then put them all together. That was the real reason for band camp, to give people a chance to learn everything before school and football started. Including how to march properly.
I was in the marching band in high school in the late 60’s. We had an incredible band director. We did a circus themed show once. We performed at the university of Florida pep rally in the stadium one year. It was a patriotic theme and we changed formations in the dark. When we got into position, we would turn on the red, white and blue lights on our hats. We ended the show with a slow dramatic performance of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. On the last note we kneeled and the color guard shot their guns. We got a five minute standing. The Vice President and our Governor were there.
I’ve been to over a hundred of them, used to have season tickets to OSU football and the band performed every halftime at home games, you should check out their skull sessions which they do before the games
My grand kids were in marching band and my granddaughters boyfriend was in that show you just watched. we are proud of our band they call them the best damn band in the land.
They are good you can watch their shows on youtube.
I want to say that your children are the most polite, well behaved young people I’ve ever seen.if all young people were like them this world would be a much better place.God bless you all!.
Proud Buckeye here, I can’t thank you enough for reacting to this. Been watching your channel for quite some time and it’s awesome to see your wonderful family react and to something so close to home for me. Cheers!
Thanks for watching Thomas! We so appreciate your support 😁
Massive respect to those band members an the long arduous hours they put in to create such an outstanding visual!!!! Props to them all!!!
Former member of the University of Arkansas Marching Razorback Band. We had daily practice learning new shows and new music every week during the football season. Memorized all aspects of the performance from the music to the show formations. It is hard work and takes athletic ability in many ways. Many people don't realize the time and effort these college students put into being a member of their band program. It was the greatest part of my time in college and I was proud to be a band member.
I've seen a lot of reactions to this video on RUclips, and your family's was by far the best! I felt like I was watching it for the first time myself! Great reaction!
Asw thanks Jan!
I played the trumpet in marching band in high school. The experience and energy is so unreal.
These marching bands take their performances very seriously and practice SOOOOO much to make their formations. My old high school band/orchestra teacher had been the drum major at OU, which is a BIG marching band and has an incredible reputation like this one. He was very strict with the marching band at my high school.
The leader is called a 'Drum Major'. It is amazing that they learn these marching routines, plus the music itself & every home game, gets a new show, isn't it? So very talented..
Even though I am an Ohioan, have all my specialist Doctors at OSU Wexner Medical Center and have even had my hospital room window looking into the stadium during a game. And my brother and sister-in-law being Alumni, I may be bias but I definitely think we have the BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND!

Every game the band has a new half time show & every time it is absolutely incredible! I have witnessed this band in person numerous times & am blown away over & over again! Go Buckeyes! O-H…!❤

I...O!!!
Brings back good memories. My father was the director of a large university marching band (among other things) - so I literally grew up in a marching band. He had the honor of directing the first marching band ever to perform on TV at an NFL game (late 60's early 70's?) and the first collegiate marching band to go and perform and tour through Europe (multiple times). And I was lucky enough to be there to go along for the ride.
Marching band has come a long way in 20 years! I did both high school and college marching band in South Carolina, then joined the US Marine Corps as a musician and did that for another 11 years. We went annually to a place called Estes Park in Colorado for the Scottish/Irish Highland Games when I was stationed out in Twentynine Palms and we did smaller shows very similar to this (Marine Bands only have 50 members each)...we even played Pirates, lol. I can certainly attest to the physical requirements of playing an instrument while moving!
I live in Ohio but I wasn’t in this band. I was in a drum corps when I was younger. If you guys liked this I really believe you would like to see a drum corps performance. Drum corps practice all winter long so they can compete with other drum corps in the summer months. In August the top drum corps meet in Indianapolis to compete for the top prize of a huge trophy! Anyway can you react to the bluecoats program called “tilt” from 2014. Its considered one of the best drum corps performances.
Yep. This is one of the great college marching bands, and they do a great job. A new show each week, and playing for a football crowd most of the time. The very top level is definitely DCI, but it's really a different animal. One show, practiced for the better part of a year (instead of a few weeks), and they are the show, instead of the halftime entertainment. Both great, just very different. Bluecoats "Tilt" show is a fine one, and there are many, many others that are highly worth seeing, whether you're reacting or not. Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Santa Clara Vanguard...
I lived on OSU campus while in college in the early 90’s and I can remember on game nights everything stopped, it was a big party and everyone was in their OSU gear. Barbecues happening everywhere, people socializing with each other…even the campus police was mingling with everyone while supporting the football players, cheerleaders and the March band members! It was such an incredible atmosphere that’s so hard to describe in words. Honestly you would have to be there to understand the magnitude of it all!
I still remember how much work went into marching band over a decade later. We had to memorize the music in a week then you spent several hours a day practicing the steps on the field. You get a list of steps for each formation. The hardest bit for me was keeping up the tempo of the music while marching double quick as you passed through the brass. I hope your family watches the other marching videos from OSU!
Love you guys!!! Bring insight to American culture and life! I am a graduate of OSU! Very difficult to become a member of this band. Glad you enjoyed it! We go to 1 game a year and they have the most amazing half time shows.
They are fantastic! I’m an Ohioan and my bestie goes to OSU so so fun to see you react
Love your reaction and love marching bands. Ohio State is the best. They have several legendary half time shows. I was in high school marching band in New Jersey and college marching band (University of Delaware.) Lots of skill and practice involved, especially at this level. Other great college bands (with different styles) are the Texas A&M Marching Band. And, the Southern University Marching band -- their show at LSU this past season was amazing.
Yes, grew up in a small town where being in the highschool marching band was a big thing. We would practice our parade routine at 6 am before the start of our school day. Little kids and their moms would come running out the door in their pajamas to cheer us on as we marched up and down the neighborhood streets. Beyond performing at halftime shows, marching bands compete in field shows and parade competitions all summer. It was an amazing experience to travel the country to perform and compete, great memories, lifelong friendships and terrific lessons in teamwork and dedication.
In the early 90's, I was in high school marching band. Our directors had software that had dots on a screen with the football field lines underneath. Each spot had a number, and were assigned accordingly. You could track each spot. It printed out each final position, and if needed, the frames between. It was cool.
Also, the "leader/s" is/are called drum majors. They are like conductors and mostly are on the sidelines on raised areas so we can all see and keep the tempo. The ones on the field here were baton twirlers. The ones doing the fabrics are usually on the color guard / steppers / high flyers team.
One year, the woodwinds (myself included) got to use flags along with the high flyers to help out during one of the shows. We had an extra week of training that year.
As an Ohio resident, and a huge Buckeyes fan, we are very proud of our team and the band, I am so glad you reacted to this and enjoyed it, I hope you will enjoy your trip to the states, take care!
All I ask as a Pitt fan is that you beat Penn State every time you play them.
@@rriggs6547 we do our best to, my freind, either in Columbus, or happy valley, and I am always happy and ecstatic when Penn St. Beats TTUN!!!
There is also DCI (Drum Corps International) which is basically a higher lever of marching band if you can believe that. Amazing stuff!
Hours and hours of practice both marching and musically. I was in marching band in high school. Small school. My senior year we had an amazing assistant director that wrote out parts for every instrument to boogie nights (a super long time ago). No other school had it and we also did a stutter step. We did this step right in front of the parade judges and as soon as we came out of it we started to play. We won the trophy! So much fun.
My daughter was in her Highschool marching band and competed. She won medals for color guard/ marching band.😊
Thanks guys, not only for the show, but for your great comments and reactions!!!!! Lots of love from Gene in Tennesasee.
Thanks Gene!
Thank you for watching TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band in the Land). The members are amazing. They learn new shows for every home game, travel to some away games and are students at the same time.
Ohio State Marching Band is amazing! My daughter is in her 3rd year of high school marching band and absolutely loves it! Our school was 2021 State Champions. It's a lot of hardwork and dedication. Amazing to see it all come together.
9:35 when u said the mapping of where the spots are, thats exactly what happens. When i was in band, Thats how we learned out spots. Constant endless hours of learning Spots, timing to move to the next, MEMORIZING the music, and keeping in time with everyone else, Marching band is NOT for the weak or lazy people. Its a dedication and passion that is unmatched. Thank you for showing what us band kids put ourselves through to put on the greatest show that we possibly can.
Thank you for doing this, I knew y'all would be amazed!
They did other tributes; like Disney movies, Michael Jackson, even British music while theyre performing in London with the NFL
Often called the best damn band in all the land. Their choreography is spectacular. Hope you get a chance to see them spell out Ohio! The senior tuba who struts out to dot the "i" makes me tear up every time.
I was in marching band in high school and loved every minute of it, knowing I was part of creating something that was jaw dropping to people looking from above. There's a LOT of practice involved, but the end result is so amazing!
As an Ohio high school band student, marching band is so fun! I've marched in the buckeye invitational at OSU and it was a blast! I recommend also looking into DCI and WGI for more awesome marching arts 😁🎵
A friend of mine who would join me in attending a DCI show & competition described as "marching band on steroids:". To see those bands live performing is amazing and the precision is mind-blowing. The wall of sound is outrageous. WGI is incredible as well and just evolves competition between drumlines and colorguard. Both of my daughters competed in WGI and the performances are incredible.
I was in marching band in high school and it was super fun and super hard work. We had two weeks of band camp in the summer right before football season started, then 3 hours of practice every Tuesday and Thursday after school, then a run through on Fridays, and then performed the shows on Friday nights at halftime of the games. Some of the best times of my life!
Those marching Buckeyes were next level! Great reaction
I love watching marching bands! My husband and I met in the high-school trumpet section. Usually these performances are during half time at football games. There are choreographers that design drill. Every "picture" is designed on a sheet with all the places of every band member and how many counts from sheet to sheet which makes the movement. So you may have some marching in place while others are really bookin it to their set.....all while stepping at the beat and playing the music and keeping your steps from coming thru your music (hard to explain this) and your instruments at the same angle as one another. So not only do you memorize your music you also memorize your individual drill. In high-school we would have contests every weekend against multiple schools. A lot of time goes into these even at the highschool level. Our band would be on the practice field half an hour before school until first period was over, three hours after school three days a week, play all home games on Fridays, contest every saturday and every day of the week for 2 months over the summer. Our band put in way more hours than the football team if you can believe that! Some of the best memories!
Years ago I lived across the street from the Gilbert High School, and their marching band was getting prepared to travel to NYC for the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade so they would walk across the street into my street every single day for that first semester. I literally had a parade at my front door everyday. It was the greatest.
The best damn band in the land! Ohio State and Michigan are huge rivals! You should watch the tribute to Michael Jackson they did, it’s incredible. O-H!!
I don't post here often, but I can say, without a doubt, that I miss my time in high school band. Remembering all of the parades and field shows that I have participated in, not to mention all of the jazz music from swing to dixieland, and formal concerts against other schools just leaves me amazed that I was able to put all of my heart into it to do the best that I could to make people cheer, clap, and even dance. What a great time.
The fact you're from a country so far away but found my hometown marching band The OSU marching band is amazing!
THE PRIDE OF THE BUCKEYES!!! This marching band IS how song & precision is done. I also love that y'all all coming to America !!! Loved this reaction video !!! Keep it coming !!!

I was born and raised in Ohio, and have been to many OSU football games. If you ever get the chance to experience this, do not neglect it. It's truly a cool sight to see!
At My University we did a short Pre Game Show, and Halftime (you were watching a halftime show). Only for Homecoming we added a Post Game Show as well. In High School we did the same halftime show at every game, in University we did a different Halftime Show for Every Game, usually about every 2 weeks.
When I was growing up I would watch college football games on Saturday. Loved watching the OSU marching band, especially when they dotted the "I". They would march out in cursive "Ohio" and sometimes they would have a special guest to dot the i. I also enjoyed watching the Texas A&M Aggies marching band. This was in the 70's when, at halftime, the network would show the marching bands.

My son dotted the “I”. Such an honor for him and our whole family
@@annametzer3804 Awesome! Congratulations on that honor. I miss watching the marching bands. Now that there's RUclips, I can probably watch the videos.
Very impressive show. I was part of band from 7th grade all the way through college. Good matching bands spend hours each day rehearsing these shows, and it's always great to hear when people enjoy them!
I was in marching band in high school at Simon Kenton in Kentucky from 1981 to 1985. We had one of the largest bands around, and won a lot of competitions. I played the clarinet for the first two years and then was on the colorguard (flags and rifles) for the last two. We marched in the Cherry Blossom parade in Washington DC and also for the opening of Epcot at Disney in Florida. For our show, we had two weeks of band camp, where we learned the music and the show. It was a lot of work, but I have never regretted a single minute of it. Marching band is an absolute blast!
The tribute to Video Games and the tribute to Rush (the band) from the same marching band are both well worth watching.
Yes the Rush Tribute was fantastic, and I believe it came just after the Neall Perth ,[the drummer] death.I'm a Penn State fan but love watching THE Ohio State marching band.
SO happy y'all did this!! These guys are amazing!
Thankyou Brandy, we think youre amazing too!
My daughter toured the nation multiple summers with a drum corps. A show like this takes hundreds of hours with excellent musicians who must also be athletic.
Oh this one is so exciting! I graduated from Ohio State and actually saw this one live when I was a student :) My profile picture is actually me and my parents in the stadium! So happy you enjoyed!!
I hope your trip to the US will be during College Football season!! It's a must see in person! Continued blessings! ❤
Former band kid here. Marching band in high school and college. Ohio state is one of the top, if not the top band in the country so you guys picked a great one to watch. If memory serves me correctly, Ohio state will do multiple shows in a season so they learn drill (the movement) and the music incredibly quickly!
And the leader is called the drum major and they often do tricks and special salutes that can be interesting to watch too!!
I was in marching band in high school back in the 1980s, and it was the absolute hardest part and by far the best part of my school years. We practiced for 2-3 hours twice a day five days a week, beginning about a month before school was even in session. We marched a show similar to this during halftime of every home football game, as well as a number of Saturdays during the autumn months for competitions. We had to memorize the music and the steps, we had to know *how* to step (glide step, high step, fast, slow, forward, backward, sideways) and exactly how many steps from one location to the next, how to hold our instruments, every tiny little detail mattered. We also had "pep band" music that we played during the games. We had to learn how to parade march and memorize a whole different set of songs for that, and there were also separate competitions for parade marching. It was hard work, but the payoff was worth every second. We traveled all over the state, and to other states at times, and won several championships in competitions. And we did all of this while maintaining good grades, because if your grade dropped below a certain score, you were suspended from being able to participate until you brought your grade up.
Marching band isn't usually classified as a sport, but we put in more hours of practice than any sports team in our school, without a doubt. It was an incredible amount of work, but it was also an incredible amount of fun!
Check out their pre-game entrance, especially when the Drum Major enters after the band. Crowd goes nuts when he comes strutting down the ramp. You’ll love it!
I did marching band in high school (played flute and piccolo). Yes, we each have what we call "dots" (or drill/coorindates) which are our positions on the field. You can Google image "marching band dots sheet", it's pretty cool! It takes months of practice, going from dot to dot to memorize them while also memorizing the music. Being in florida, those long summer practices were always brutal but we all loved it. The school marching band is usually at football games and does the half-time show. We also competed against other marching bands and had States (finals), as well as evaluations where we were judged based on different categories like marching, music, our colorguard, front ensemble, etc. We were all (the students, the instructors, the parents) one big happy family. Such an amazing experience.
Reaction suggestion: Texas A&M University's official marching band and the largest military band in the nation:

DCI (Drum Corps International) is a governing body for different drum corps and marching bands. Usually the best of the best.
This is a compilation that shows more of the technicalities. Most of these are during eval or championships, so not a lot of pop culture references.

Too many cool bands out there to name but if you're interested, definitely look up the DCI.
YES YES YES! I click this so fast. I’m a massive Ohio State Buckeye fan. I live about 20 mins from the University. I’m so glad you guys are reacting to The Best Damn Band in the Land! I’ve seen this band live multiple times in a regular season ticket holder. I suggest watching the ramp entrance it’s insane.
I attended LSU (Louisiana State University), where we have the (Grammy-nominated) Golden Band from Tigerland. These types of performances are done during halftime by the band of the home team -- so they must prepare at least 5 to 8 unique performances each year, which are performed in all kinds of weather (scorching heat to freezing cold, rain, snow, etc.) during football season -- between the beginning of September and end of November. Then there are competitions they participate in outside of these football game performances. College marching bands are MAJOR!🎉
Who? Nothing anyone can claim to have would Ben in the same league as the BUCKEYES!
Marching bands typically play the half-time show (halfway through the football game). My mom and I both graduated from OSU, so I'm so excited you loved it!!! We weren't in the band (but we were both in marching bands in high school-- definitely not the same caliber lol), however one of my neighbors played trumpet in OSU's marching band 😊❤
I was in Marching Band all through highschool years ago! It was one of my favorite times; the band is your family! We had packets of drill charts (maps of the field) with various symbols representing each group (i.e. woodwinds, brass, drumline). We used poker chips, 3 at a time (red, white and blue!) and would memorize 3 positions at a time. We practiced every day for 2hrs, even on saturdays! On top of that you had to memorize your music. You have to roll your feet a certain way and memorize the field. You also have to always keep your eye on the drum major so you can keep time. We played in snow and blistering heat. Rain is a problem because woodwinds get damaged when wet. We have a week of bandcamp before school starts. You do pushups if you make mistakes lol we had 'drill-outs' where drum majors would call out different marching commands, if you make a mistake, you're out. They say them faster and faster until there is only one left and the winner gets first in line for dinner! Every new member has a 'big brother' or 'big sister' to help them learn everything. You also have a leader for each section of the band as well. And I cannot forget the Band Moms. (Moms of bandmembers). They fixed our uniforms, fed us, gave us money or rides if we needed it, even a place to stay if weather got bad; they were amazing! Marching Band is it's own crazy chaotic culture. We got invited to perform at Disney World. Twice! I highly recommend the movie Drumline, as it best portrays how Marching Band is! I also recommend checking out the Marine Corp Marching Band, The Presidents Own; they are some of the best musicians in the country!
