As just a fan of CFB, it makes me proud. I do consider OSU to have TBDBIATL. But I think my school(Michigan State's) drum line is better than any other I've ever seen.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed this. As you're becoming aware, college football is a big deal in the US, and along with that, at most schools, is their marching band. The Ohio State Marching Band is certainly the pride of Ohio. It has 228 members, and usually a couple thousand people apply to be in it each year. There is a running joke amongst those in the know that the band has a larger budget than most other schools' football programs. It really is a site to behold seeing them live.
If it's a special game then a guest does it, like former University Presidents, Bob Hope, Woody Hayes, it's a big deal it's the band making you an honorary member.
When I attended Ohio State the band practiced right outside my dormitory, so I got to watch them almost every day during Autumn Quarter. It's fascinating to watch a show come together over four or five days.
The OSU marching band really is The Best Damned Band In The Land (TBDBITL). Not only their marching, which is insane, but their musicianship is amazing. To see and hear them live is a real treat. I'm a proud alum. And me Mum-in-Law was a Brit, so the London visit is really special!
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Where the Ohio State Buckeyes are from. I am a huge Buckeye fan and it was really cool to see you guys enjoy the video!
Dotting the I in Script Ohio is a big honor and each week a different person does it. There are times when they bring someone special on the field to dot the I and it is an honor for them. Yes, the band was there for the NFL.
Watching Brits react to football it's obvious there is a market for American football over there. It's just the time difference is a drag. A west coast morning game, 10a PST kickoff, is 6pm in London. And that puts the Sunday night game, 5pm PST kick off, starts at 1am GMT. Its just problematic. And when you consider how many times Canada and Mexico have tried to get NFL or MLB teams and it just failed, while being in the same timezones, getting a team to London is a hurtle that it may take faster airtravel to conquer.
@@officeblokedaz Damn. I guess I meant the ethnic Brits as opposed to the ethnic Scots not so much the nationality of the same name. Does that make sense or am I rambling... I guess both could be true. Did I mention English is my second language? Sometimes it's not so easy to make my point.
I was from a small town in eastern Ohio. Our band was huge compared to school size. (grad class 95 kids...band size 115). When the football team went into summer sessions, so did we. Some of my best high school memories are band competitions, Friday night football games, and travel expeditions to Orlando, FL.
The two sousaphone (marching tuba) players who dotted the i in Ohio at the end - that was a really big deal to them. It's a group of the best brass players in the country who wind up in the band in the first place and then it's the best senior year tuba who dots the i.
We take the last 5 minutes of the second quarter of football to get drinks and eats. Half time is very entertaining in Columbus. Don’t want to miss it. They are that good.
Several kids in this performance came from my town's two high school marching band programs. Pickerington H.S. North was invited to play/march in London's New Year's Day parade, 2018. It was an amazing trip, my son still talks about it. Thx for supporting these amazing people.

You are right those groups are fantastic and they practice one show for the entire season. The Ohio State marching band does 6 or 7 different shows in 12 weeks. My favorite is the entrance of the band onto the field. When the band major runs down the field and throws his baton into the sky and catches it then does that backbend touching the plume on his hat to the ground. Such a great moment. The crowd goes wild. Those kids go to camp all summer to try to get a spot in that band. These kids are dedicated and aren't your typical college partiers. They practice a lot and do a different show every home game. They are amazing to watch. I love when their drum major bends backwards and touches his head to the ground. That seems almost impossible
I loved marching band at Iowa. Made some very good friends in college. We did this in high school so we were used to reading charts when we got to school as freshman but they were so much cooler. Yeah it's still hard playing trumpet and doing the pregame at homecoming. Buy so much fun to go back to iowa city and see everyone and do pregame. It's hard at 63 but I won't stop.
I played in high school marching band, the work and "training" need to play your instrument and follow the lay out of the grid, i could never do again.
Marching bands start in high schools and carry into universities. Know when you watch professional musicians in bands they probably were in marching bands in school growing up. A great discipline. Imagine learning music and marching at the same time. It’s not easy. Tremendous talent on that field.
Ohio State University is a big rival of college sports teams here in Michigan but I have to admit their marching band is top-notch. You guys should check out clips from HBCU bands (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Totally different marching band styles than the other schools but very exciting. Some would say more exciting 😉 Jefferson Davis High School from Montgomery, Alabama is in that style as well and their performances are incredible for high school band. Heck, they’re better than some college bands.
When they do the "Script Ohio" on game day, there is a special person for the week, that's chosen to be the dot on the "I". The Script Ohio is normally just done as one big word, instead of one for each side of the stadium. And, I'm sure the were picked because they're the best. They're the largest too, as Ohio State is the largest student body in our country.
Having the opportunity to work with both the NFL and the local BIG 10 colleges, I really like working with Wisconsin and Iowa for the enthusiasm of their fans 👌👏💯
6 hours of practice per day , to get the program perfect and memorizing the formations , the music , have to get it perfect. No sheet music upon game day at all. You should check out the Texas a&M marching band. Daz may already know but they are one of the best in the world. Their marches are absolutely hypnotizing.
Here is the thing about American university marching bands. Every state thinks it has the best band. Just the way it is. The folks from Texas A&M say they are the best and they are about twice the size of Ohio State and do the same drills but they are a military themed band so you will have to choose. I lived in Europe 3 yrs and never saw one so i am assuming no country in the 26 member block has one (college marching band for halftime performance) but i could be wrong...
Twice the size is true. OSU has a bigger reputation and more students than A&M. Which group do you think is more selective and elite? Same drills? You haven't seen either of them, have you?

Wanna bet "God Save The Queen" was just taken off the shelf as "My Country 'Tis of Thee"? (My cousin was completely thrown by it happening at the Freddie Mercury concert, she forgot the two songs have the same tune.)
I was amused when I found out that the music for "The Star Spangled Banner" was taken from an old English drinking song, "To Anacreon In Heaven".
TBDBITL. THE BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND !!!
They play before over 100,000 fans at every single home game in Columbus, Ohio
the rusty trumbone!!!!! LOL🤣🤣🤣🤣
True story 😂
Make it a point to visit the Traditionally Black University marching bands ! Then you're gonna' see something great !
I assume you guys also noticed that the size of Ohio State's brand leads to a significant amount of interactions and online engagement. Appealing to us is a great way to grow haha
Thank you from Doylestown Ohio 100 miles north of Columbus and Ohio State
We went over to London cause the NFL invited the Band to play for halftime.
You guys understand somebody has to spend hours choreographing these routines then the band spends weeks and months perfecting this.
The OSU marching band does a different performance at every halftime. They have only one week to practice each performance in between their studies and classes at the university. Quite amazing
The precision just to be able to march let alone play an instrument. Yay Ohio State.

You should check out the Texas a&M marching band. Daz may already know but they are one of the best in the world. Their marches are absolutely hypnotizing.
Gotta do their Video Games show now. Don't know if you like video games at all, but it's a great show even without the nostalgia that it brings up.
Still my favorite half time show off all time!
While I am a proud Buckeye, you should see some HBCU (Historical Black Colleges and Universities) bands. Totally different style. You’ll like it.
HBCU bands are great - huge energy. As you say, a totally different style, so comparing the two is silly.
Please react to a Historical Black University Band and I think Florida A&M Rattles Band is one of the best in the country!
Im from Ohio! Born and raised here!
Btw,there is a small feedback loop on your audio on this video. Never noticed it on your others videos.
Twice the size is true. OSU has a bigger reputation and more students than A&M. Which group do you think is more selective and elite? Same drills? You haven't seen either of them, have you?
Class of 2001. Go Buckeyes!!!
@Office Blokes React ya'll really need to also react to the HCBU marching bands (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) it's a huge part of Black American culture in particular, ya'll will really like the rhythm, dances & music
