These pirates seriously picked the wrong ship, I came across a documentary on Somali pirates a while back and found it quite funny that these guys don't see themselves as pirates. They call themselves the Somali Navy seriously lol.
There is a movie called Captain Phillips about the capture of the Maersk Alabama by pirates in 2009. It stars Tom Hanks as Phillips and Barkhad Abdi as Abduwali Muse, the lead pirate. It's an incredible depiction of the events of the hijacking and the subsequent standoff with the American Navy. You saw actual footage of the hijacking in this video. The movie was Abdi's first acting experience. Still he won a BAFTA for best supporting actor. I know you don't normally react to movies, but I would love to see your take on this one.
When I was in Europe, I was surprised that most of the Europians I encountered saw the US as bullies and killing machines. They even pointed to The Star Spangled Banner as showcasing our warmongering. "The rockets' red glare. The bombs bursting in air". I had one guy watch The Star Spangled Banner as You've Never Heard It. Those lyrics were about the British bombing the heck out of the US not us bombing them. After he saw that, he looked at the USA differently. However, not all Europeans feel that way. My cousin in Denmark ( my family immigrated from Denmark)was in the resistance during WW2. He lives on the North Sea. We were chatting about how the Danes have honored Americans in many ways - they celebrate July4th. They have a place with individual houses - one for each state. I asked him why. He pointed to the sea and said, "do you know what is right over there? I said no. He said it was Russia. He then said that without the US, they would be speaking German or Russian. I was speechless.
You have to ask W. Bush why the USA has this reputation, he can explain it to you. It has nothing to do with WW2 and Denmark surrendered after 6 hours of the war starting, it's not like they put up much of a fight either. Maybe they should read another history book. Fun fact: In the southern part of Denmark they also speak German.
@Daguhl The Danes knew they could not fight the Germans in warfare, so they used their brains. Maybe you should read up on how The Danes got a huge % of targeted people out and safely over to Sweden. My family members were in the underground resistance, and I know a lot about how they operated. If you would like, I could recommend some reading materials for you. My conversations with the Europeans were way before either Bush was president. Both were disappointments. I did, however, make many business trips to Europe and then on to Denmark for a few personal days with family. It was wonderful to have a profession that took me to so many places, and I am so grateful for that. As for politics, decisions about policies, conflicts, etc, are rarely, perhaps never, made with just the right thing to do as a stand-alone purpose. Thank you for your comment, and i send you blessings ~ karen
@@karenjayne24 The thing with G.W. Bush was also just an example, if you want to know the reason why the USA is seen as a warmonger, you have to go back to Iran in 1953 and look at your foreign policy in the Middle East from there over the next 60 years. Regarding the actions of the Danish people, I have to say that it all sounds very noble when you put it in connection with an underground resistance movement, but ultimately many just wanted to save their own skin, especially in the government at the time. As part of the United Nations, the U.S. Navy also has to follow specific laws on what kind of munitions can be used on a skiff (Likely classified as a light skinned vehicle) they can and would want to drop expensive munitions on them, 50. cal is likely the largest caliber used in most of these cases, which is plenty. If you want to know more about the hijacking of the MV Maersk Alabama,, watch the movie "Captain Phillips", starring Tom Hanks. Highly accurate, and an excellent movie.
I came across your channel yesterday while chillin' during downtime at work and binge-watched a few of them last night. Most of the videos, I've already seen before, but your reactions are hilarious. Keep it up man! I haven't heard this story though, so it's fun watching new vids (for me) with your reactions.
its sad but the zumwalt (however it may be spelled, sorry my spelling is poor) but that program was abandoned mostly. plans were to have dozens, but as we know when you play with new techs or new ways of applying modern/old technology, sometimes they just don't work as intended or hidden issues arise. this was the case with the zumwalt. thou 3 were still made, idk if they are all if any (active) in the services. the biggest issue if i recall was the slow development of the primary artillery/gun system. they were trying to put a rail gun on it... as far as i know we don't quite have that perfected yet... years later. though we are closer now than back then, i can't say the rail gun is still an active program either. oh and another (if i remember right) was the issues with the propulsion system... but that may have been a different boat.. feel free to look the zumwalt up. you could still do a video on the ship if you like. just thought i'd throw this into the frey. peace.
13:53 a stealth destoryer, it was kinda an overly ambitious project put in practice before appropriate tech was available but it taught us a bunch of lessons. Tho I think it was a mistake to "remove" the guns and/or no supply it win ammo but I do get the reasoning, the two humps in the frontare the gun that can hide away to be stealthier. I am hoping that in the future Battleships make a comeback when Railguns become operational. Tho I do think they have a place today with our laser defense systems, better arty/rounds that could be used, and just better overall systems. Plus bullets/shells can't really be intercepted even tho they don't have as much range as a missle
As a rule the U.S. does not start wars. But..........they WILL help take care of the bullies of the world without being a bully ourselves. We adhere to the Geneva Convention too.
aslo 02:08 "Mess around and find out". also "do not touch OUR (usa) boats". pirates: touch. Japan: flash backs. iran: usa will get proportional with your "navy" soon. USA: Fire! main cannon!
Captain Kidd was painted on the smokestack of a WWII US destroyer named after Read Admiral Kidd, the first Flag Officer killed in WWII at Pearl Harbor. Someone needs to do a documentary on the USS Kidd
#9 for the Zumwalt. You should check out the movie "Captain Phillips" with Tom Hanks, it is so good. Human suffering can drive men to act out of desperation. It's actually heartbreaking. Somalia was the same country that the Jessica Buchanan rescue that you reacted to took place. I've gone back and watched some of your older reactions, your new studio looks great! The black wall and lighting looks so good with all the colors.
Zumwalt might be retired early doe to high maintenance and problems with the main hull (cracking), and there is a big chance it will be replaced by sea drones.
"Why do you think pirates continue to target American vessels?" I think it's a combination of things. America is known as the wealthiest country in the world, so an American ship likely means a big reward to the pirates. The pirates may also think they will be successful through careful planning and the speed and maneuverability of their vessels compared to the larger American vessels. Last but not least, desperation. I also think that if the American and any other naval force, if they can use non-lethal means to repel pirates, I think that's preferable. In the end those pirates aren't being pirates because they're living out a fantasy, I'm sure they're doing it because they're desperate and just trying to survive, just as how some poor people steal food to get by. Lethal force ideally shouldn't be used unless it comes to being under immediate threat of death. And so far, I may be wrong since I know very little, but based on that video it seems those pirates prefer hostages they can release after getting ransoms rather than killing to steal what's on the ships. And if they have stuck to not killing anyone, all the more reason to not use lethal force on them and go with the deterrents if they're so effective.
The Navy was created by George Washington to deal with the Barbary pirates as the Continental Navy was disbanded after the Revolutionary War (fighting pirates is literally the listed reason on the founding document). It just took awhile to actually deal with them 'cause by the time the ships were ready there was a new president who was not as opposed to paying tribute as Washington was (all the other countries like Spain, France, and Britain all paid tribute at the time, it was just what you did). However, Thomas Jefferson, the third president, was happy to make use of the Navy since he didn't want the United States to pay tribute to anyone ever again (one of his slogans during his campaign was "Millions in defense before a cent in tribute", which would be equivalent to hundreds of billions modern day, about right for the U.S. Defense budget). The Marine Corps was created a few years after the Navy by the second president (again, as in modern Marines considering the Continental Marines was also disbanded at the end of the war), but they were actually more or less established for a undeclared Quasi-War with France. They delt with the pirates once Jefferson was in office, which included an eventful storming of Tripoli, one of the strongholds of the pirates. Sorry about the long explanation, I like history.
14:15 That, is what the future of the USN DDGs supposed to be, and never came to be as it suppose have 155 mm guns that could hit targets out to 150 kms (then the ammo became too expensive and resulting in 29 cancelled ships). Now they're just going to have hypersonic missiles that can go mach 17 or something.
What the video doesn't explain is the real reason ships use "non-leathal" methods of repelling piracy. The owners of the Suez Canal put severe restrictions on merchant ships that want to pass through it in regards to the types and amount of armaments they are allowed to have on board. I believe they can get around this by hiring private security forces in some cases but I don't remember the details.
One of the big reasons was the cost. The original estimate was $3.5 - $4.0 billion per ship. After they built the first 3 ships, the cost was $8 billion per ship.
I love living in America but lets not forget about how they started because someone thought it was ok to throw waste into the ocean 🌊 that caused pollution of the water and there way of supporting them and there families so they came together and protected their way of life and like everything else things that had good intentions became away for others to exploit it for personal gain
9 Why don’t you check out some the US army fails. Both my sons served in US Army, and they showed me these videos of compilations of FailArmy. The mistakes are crazy, but the soldiers reactions while it’s happening are hilarious. Especially when expensive equipment is mistakenly destroyed. Also, if you visit Norfolk Navel base you can tour an aircraft carrier and see how big they truly are. There is a great documentary from PBS called Carrier. It follows the USS Nimitz on a Middle East deployment.
Agreed. If our military gets a Trigger Free on someone however, a swirling Shitdisco of Destruction is unleashed. My father flew fighters in the Marines. They don't eat crayons (mostly). If Ukraine falls... grab your bootstraps. I pray not.
The Navy out-fancied themselves with the Zumwalt class. The fancy cannons and ammo are too tricky and are not working out at all. Unless they figure out a fix, this is a military dead end.
The fact that we are trying to operate in conjunction with other powers in a professional and law-enforcement capacity, does speak volumes about the restraint and compassion of the US Navy and government in this particular case.
9. Also that image of all those ships in formation comes from RIMPAC an international naval showcasing event put on by the US to promote peace in the pacific and allow other nations from around the world to work together and use their nations latest technology. you should watch the video RIMPAC 2022 kicks off! by USA military channel.
U.S. citizen here. I would like to see our navy employ 55-gallon drums of United States Department of Agriculture lemon meringue pie filling. The Sea Shepard Society, if memory serves, said that one 55-gallon drum of USDA lemon meringue pie filling will stop a small boat dead in its tracks. Plus, insects *love* lemon meringue pie filling. The added bonus is, it would be *hilarious* to see the pirates dealing with that goo all over their ships and fighting-off insects. If they want to switch out, they could probably use drums of Key Lime pie or pumpkin pie filling, whatever the USDA has on hand. But admittedly, this is a *nasty* non-lethal form of ordnance and should only be used if the water cannon doesn't work on the pirates. Plus, the sailors would probably have to clean the gun after each use, so I'm sure the navy's answer would be no. Still, it's an entertaining idea.
When I was 15 I was hanging out with a girl. Her little brother was 9, and he was very upset with me over something. I grabbed his wrists and held him away from me so I didn't get hit, but I also didn't hurt him. I continued to hold him until he had worn himself out.
Don't bother with the Zumwalt... it was a failure of a project and we are upgrading and extending the service of the Arleigh Burke class. We only made 3 and they aren't even fully functioning to what the project promised.
The zumwalt is a new style of destroyer that is highly sophisticated and I believe it's worth almost $80 billion. Is the head of its class and destroyer and one of the largest destroyer class ships that America has
That is so understated 3 shots killing 3 people while missing the captive. On the ocean, where there are waves. These were the most bad ass shots ever. Yet abain showing, you do not want to piss us off. We have a short temper, and our view of equal response is not even. We are the picture of an 80s teen who got left the keys to both the bank and the armory.
To be fair, the United States did in fact try negotiating with pirates, when the country was first formed and its ships were no longer covered under the agreements protecting English ships. Nobody wanted another war right then - a phrase whose repetition seems to describe a lot of the country's history. Negotiation brought one lasting peace treaty - with Morocco - but otherwise went exactly as you'd expect. The United States Navy was created specifically to combat piracy.
14:00 The Zumwalt Class destroyers were a boondoggle, they are getting decommissioned because they designed around weapon systems that never came into fruition.
I know it sounds cheesy, but seriously as someone who knows what it's like to just kick major ass, with great power comes great responsibility. There's a point where people will want to just fight you to fight you and say they took a scratch out of you. But even worse than that is when you realize you've become a bully. And that is not our job as the world police. When you're known for kicking ass it's all right when someone smaller tries to take a chunk out of you. But what is not all right, is when you decide to take a chunk out of people that are easily beaten.
Many times when it seems the US is being a bully, they usually are reacting to a country or organization trying to “scratch” the US or it’s Allie’s through economics with sneaky means. They can’t give away all secrets at the time because of operational security or keeping their methods of info collection secret for future use. If you properly dig into the past you can see the same thing with the Korean War, Iraq war, Afghanistan war, and now with the houthis. Sometimes the only language understood is violence unfortunately.
You can also say "mess around and find out" or " screw around" but more of than not we just say FAFO (fah-foh) instead of the whole thing these days...
I like how Russian commercial ships at least in the recent past sold tickets for passengers to accompany the ship's company through the region equipped with AK's or even more fire power. Seems like a win-win situation. Russian shipping is protected yet profits instead of paying for the protection.
US navy was actually founded to fight pirates. The Fat Electrian has a good video on the topic. And almost every war the US has gotten involved in has involved boats in some form or fashion.

I came across your channel yesterday while chillin' during downtime at work and binge-watched a few of them last night. Most of the videos, I've already seen before, but your reactions are hilarious. Keep it up man! I haven't heard this story though, so it's fun watching new vids (for me) with your reactions.
That new ship is a test bed for new tech. it has issues but other new ships will be better because of the testing
its sad but the zumwalt (however it may be spelled, sorry my spelling is poor) but that program was abandoned mostly. plans were to have dozens, but as we know when you play with new techs or new ways of applying modern/old technology, sometimes they just don't work as intended or hidden issues arise. this was the case with the zumwalt. thou 3 were still made, idk if they are all if any (active) in the services. the biggest issue if i recall was the slow development of the primary artillery/gun system. they were trying to put a rail gun on it... as far as i know we don't quite have that perfected yet... years later. though we are closer now than back then, i can't say the rail gun is still an active program either. oh and another (if i remember right) was the issues with the propulsion system... but that may have been a different boat.. feel free to look the zumwalt up. you could still do a video on the ship if you like. just thought i'd throw this into the frey. peace.
The Movie, Capt. Phillips, shows the Whole incident.. Really Good!
The more you f around the more you find out
That Zumwalt destroyer has the radar signature of a mid-sized fishing boat.
And thats where the movie Captain Phillips (Tom Hanks) played came from i enjoyed that film as well 👍🏻
Great show. I enjoy your channel. Keep them coming.
We call that the F around and find out club. lol
aslo 02:08 "Mess around and find out". also "do not touch OUR (usa) boats". pirates: touch. Japan: flash backs. iran: usa will get proportional with your "navy" soon. USA: Fire! main cannon!
I love the Mike Tyson analogy. You aren't wrong.
The black wall and lighting looks so good with all the colors.
hes on the money FAFO is one of our favorite expressions lol
Zumwalt might be retired early doe to high maintenance and problems with the main hull (cracking), and there is a big chance it will be replaced by sea drones.
I love that image. All the air craft...
13:55 "zumwalt class destroyer" enjoy the youtube results, lots of videos, extremely stealthy. and expensive.
"Why do you think pirates continue to target American vessels?"
I think it's a combination of things.
I've seen the Zumwalt docked in Bath, ME. It's an impressive ship.
I believe the United States Marine corps was developed solely to combat pirates from Tripoli if I'm not mistaken in the early days
Sorry about the long explanation, I like history.
love your reaction just seeing the zumwalt class destroyer for the first time !
Love your video...your attitude...your comments!
13:58 - They actually cancelled the Zumwalt class last year. I haven't looked into why though.
That Arleigh Burke doesn't displace 100,000 tons. The latest builds displace a little less than 10,000 tons.
I watched them being built at Bath Iron Works in Bath Maine. Bigger than they look
Oh yes the Zumwalt-class. I just want to let you know that one of the captains of that ship was then Captain James A Kirk (now Rear Admiral). 🤣
The fact that we are trying to operate in conjunction with other powers in a professional and law-enforcement capacity, does speak volumes about the restraint and compassion of the US Navy and government in this particular case.
"F" is for fun right? Lol! Love your reactions!
Love your channel dude!
David Bowie:
"I'm afraid of Americans."
(such a lovely song.)
The Zumwalt looks like a pyramid Leg-go project.
What you don't see in that battle formation. 68 Submarines that stay F*** 'Em Up Ready.
They have been firing rockets at every boat in red sea.
When I was 15 I was hanging out with a girl. Her little brother was 9, and he was very upset with me over something. I grabbed his wrists and held him away from me so I didn't get hit, but I also didn't hurt him. I continued to hold him until he had worn himself out.
Zumwalt got cancelled. Cost too much and onboard systems weren't developing enough.
Don't bother with the Zumwalt... it was a failure of a project and we are upgrading and extending the service of the Arleigh Burke class. We only made 3 and they aren't even fully functioning to what the project promised.
Hahaha 😊
Thanks Bud
There going to call in FAFO😊. Fock around and Find out 😊
The zumwalt is a new style of destroyer that is highly sophisticated and I believe it's worth almost $80 billion.
There's a documentary on the Rescue of Captain Phillips. It might be interesting to see a reaction to it from you.😊
To be fair, the United States did in fact try negotiating with pirates, when the country was first formed and its ships were no longer covered under the agreements protecting English ships. Nobody wanted another war right then - a phrase whose repetition seems to describe a lot of the country's history. Negotiation brought one lasting peace treaty - with Morocco - but otherwise went exactly as you'd expect. The United States Navy was created specifically to combat piracy.
9 yes! I live here n I don’t even know about this thing, we’ll learn together 😊
America is like the big strong guy in a crowded room .
If something goes down im with him .
The movie Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks recounts this story.
America is the definition of F- around and find out my friend lol
I do feel sorry for the pirates. Imagine your life is so effed, attacking a US military ship is something you have to do to survive.
US navy was actually founded to fight pirates. The Fat Electrian has a good video on the topic. And almost every war the US has gotten involved in has involved boats in some form or fashion.
The story of Captain Phillips What an amazing thing. That movie made me cry and feel happy and proud. real american people
