Angels are most certainly one of my favourite creature types of all time, they're just so awesome, maybe even as awesome as "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
I just built the Secret Lair Angels commander pre-con and upgraded it. It absolutely slaps tables around, and watching my opponents shock each turn as each card I land is just so powerful in each right really shows how boss Angels are.
By the time that championships and tournaments became a serious thing, Serra Angel was completely outclassed. I am actually curious though to see if Parhellion II makes the list at some point. Given the potential of Greasefang style decks.
Serra Angel won a bunch of tournaments in the 90’s though. She was considered Magic’s best creature and I think she took the number one spot on one of his angel lists
Pretty much how to grade an angel's worth is based entirely around the original Serra Angel. 5 cost, 2 of which are white, uncommon rarity, 4/4, 2 abilities. If cost goes up, the special abilities need to go up with them, as well as stats. If cost goes down, hopefully stats will match as well as abilities. Something of note, there have been angels of every color EXCEPT for green. While there are some angels with green and other colors, there is no green only angel. There is only ONE blue.
Tbh black angels and red angels mainly appeared as a result of them getting overtaken by a feeling or sth of this sort. Black - fallen angels (or those angels more generally focused around killing and death, like the black Valkyries). Red - madness/rage. The blue one is an illusion. So the mono-green one would have to be focused around what... Nature I guess? So an Elemental-Angel or Plant-Angel hybrid I would say...
The main problem with a mono green angel is that green isn't meant to get many good flying creatures (outside of dragons since they're in every color). Granted, being an angel would probably grant it a similar exception. Another issue is that white and green are the ally color pair with the most overlap philosophically. While this nominally should make the task easier, it effectively makes it so any green angel would need to justify why it isn't solely or partially white and do so in a way where it still makes sense for the creature to be an angel over something else (like a spirit or a dryad).
@@violeth2255 ground pounder angel? or maybe earthbound angel. Although I notice the whole flying issue is why fairies shifted from green to blue and black.
A bit dissapointed that you didn't mention that Atraxa is actually hardcasted in standard, there is a 5 color ramp deck that is pretty popular right now and Etali and Atraxa are the finishers
Copper-Leaf angel. It's a 5 mana 2/2 artifact creature that has a buffing ability that requires you to both pay mana and sacrifice lands. And it's still not even close to as bad as Teeka's dragon.
Wow. Going in, if someone had bet me $500 that neither Akroma nor OG Avacyn were on the list, I would have laughed and taken that bet without hesitation. I guess I'm lucky no one is doing weird MTG Top 10-related bets.
I'm going to confess shock that the Avacyn that give you an 8/8 beater, and makes all your permanents Indestructible, didn't make this list, but otherwise a neat list!
Seems weird seeing Baneslayer Angel being so cheap now, given we used to call it "Wallet Slayer Angel" when it first came out and was like £35/$40 each (which was incredibly rare for a standard card back then).
Why is Lyra used over baneslayer angel in pioneer? Legendary downside & lack of protection upside seems to just make her worse. Are there other angels in those control decks that justify using her?
Are there plans to finish up the remaining Top 10 (Color) 2 drops video series soon? I've been looking forward to it! We know Blue and Red but what about the others! :-)
Atraxa will slowly climb. Besides Entreat in boomer blue white control lists and emerias call as chrome mox fodder, Atraxa is the only angel on this list strong enough for eternal play.
Oh man, I didn't think of that, but it absolutely would, since it's not technically lifelink. And I'm a guy who used to enchant Horned Cheetah with Armadillo Cloak.
What I’ve never understood is why people play Lyra over Baneslayer. Like, you can have two Baneslayers in play, but you can’t have two Lyras. Can someone please explain this?
@@domri4203 Then why would you play Lyra over Baneslayer? If the only thing Lyra has is buffing other angels, there is zero reason to run Lyra over Baneslayer.
Geist shouldn’t be on the list as it’s not an Angel. I think a rule should be it’s an Angel creature. If not, it should be able to produce Angel tokens.
I think the Standard points should count less. A card with a huge score in Standard and nothing else is just a design fail and should not be considered
How can it be a design fail, if the card performs well in what used to be the main MtG format, before WotC decided that everything should be build around Commander?
"You are not alone, You never were" I love that

I'm honestly surprised not to see "Giada, Font of Hope" and "Serra Angel."

You’re the real #1 Angel for making all these Top 10 lists

i remember when baneslayer was released,.
Our LGS all called her the bankslayer due to her price at the time for standard
I remember buying her for ten dollars at a card store and saying “DAMN! That’s a good deal!”
Another upside of emerias call in legacy is that it can be fodder for cards like chrome mox and solitude
Yeah, just being a land that is a white card (often with irrelevant text) is huge for many strategies, as are many of the other double faced lands.
You have no idea how nice it is hear "Hi, everyone. I'm Nizzahon" throughout the week.
I'm still waiting for Teeka's Angel.
I would play that in Vintage 100%.

She really only sees play in reanimator decks but those usually can do better things than "just" getting a big indestructible beater
probably showing my age here but feels so wild seeing that both Baneslayer and Geist of St Traft are now both below $3
Mmmhmmm… I remember playing Standard after moving home a couple years after graduating from college when it was referred to as the “Wallet-slayer.”
Who?
Im wondering if you could ever do a video of your magic related item located in the background
I love how the #1 spot showcases a .50 cent card. Love that card
Seems weird seeing Baneslayer Angel being so cheap now, given we used to call it "Wallet Slayer Angel" when it first came out and was like £35/$40 each (which was incredibly rare for a standard card back then).
When you started with "I think there is a real chance..." I immidiately thought the next words would be "... that she'll get banned someday." 😂😂
The Exalted Angel's text is interesting in that it would stack unlike lifelink which a creature either has or doesn't.
I'm working on an indestructible Boros deck for pioneer Archangel Avacyn is part of it
You should consider taking a look at the unofficial premodern format, exalted angel is an all-star there.
I wonder if Boon Bringer Valkyrie will make the list some day, it seems like an upgrade over Lyra for many decks.
I’ve been a longtime viewer and just wanted to tell you that you are one of the best MTG content creators!
By accident or on purpose you released the angels in the alternative number of the beast which I love !
Angel cards are the main focus of my collection.
Episode 616? Shame they haven’t done a Marvel Comics crossover yet. Would’ve been good for this number.
Even if not visble for years, Akroma is still my favorite
I'm surprised Parhelion II didn't make the list, given its prevalence in Greasefang decks

Yep. They will all happen eventually.
She goes infinite with Kiki Jiki, but what doesn't.
The traditional Splinter Twin/ Kiki-Jiki combo creatures were blue, though. It's nice to have a white option.

Angel of the Dire Hour. Exile all attacking creatures.
