I remember when my neighbour who taught me Magic but was selling it to buy LEGO sold me a Darksteel Colossus for like $20. But being a new player at the time it seemed like there could never ever be a better creature....11/11...Indestructible, to a new player's eyes. I do still love the card, and with his LEGO he placed 3rd on LEGO Masters 2022 so...We're both happy.
@@LolaliciousSmiley Yep, Dave Gueddes. I grew up two doors down and saw him just a couple weeks ago. Neighbors on both sides were super into LEGO ironically. LEGO hired him as a designer, he moves to Denmark in May.

What I like about this series is it helps me catch up to the 20+ years of magic I wasn’t playing for. It’s like the cliffnotes version of magic history
I do always think this is a bit overstated! I think power creep has been big in some ways (mostly creatures), but you have to remember some of the most busted non-creature cards in the game were printed in 2003 and earlier.
It's interesting how the base is 71 points. Normally, when you think of indestructible, you think large hard to power out creatures or artifacts. But, as seen by the list, there are a lot of good lower cost indestructible cards as well
Ahh Indestructible, it's honestly one of my favourite mechanics, because no shit. It's just so fucking awesome to have something so invincible. But you know what's more awesome? "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
Running two Ulamog, three March of the Multitudes, Katilda, and a WHOLE LOTTA LIFEGAIN. Usually dropping Ulamog on turn 5 after I have 150 life and 15 soilders with lifegain, and a 15/15 Moondancer
I've got a top 10 idea that sounds interesting: Top 10 {format} cards. like the top 10 most successful standard cards, or then the top 10 modern cards. i'd be interested in seeing what cards have had the biggest impact on a single format at some point. this idea came cause of Gideon here, almost entirely held up by his standard points alone. so i got to thinking are there other cards with a bigger standard score than Gideon? a list like that for each format sounds neat!
Even in a burn deck, Boros Charm's double strike mode could lead to 5 or more damage with something like a swiftspear or a kiln fiend. The double strike mode is also kinda similar to the indestructible mode since it's another option to protect a creature in combat. Pretty neat card.
Very surprised that Avacin, angel of hope didn't make the list. An 8 mana 8/8 with flying and giving your whole board indestructible would be an awesome rate! Love the videos, please keep them coming!
More background on Gideon for those who missed this standard format. Opponent wipes the board with a wrath effect. Left on the board are Gideon + Heart of Kiran. +1 Gideon to make him a 5/5, crew HoK with a loyalty counter, swing for 9. That's the ugly type of play you had to deal with back in the day. Gideon was utterly broken when printed, even if by today's standards, it's not as impressive (I doubt he'd have the same impact in the current format, by quite a margin actually).
6:29 not all Amonkheti Gods are Indestructible. Only the moon-colored ones are before they were Eternalized. The Scorpion, Scarab, and Locust Gods are corrupted, but still Amonkheti Gods
Preach!! CGB!! Preach!! Personally, I like to dip my toes into all styles of play so I can see all the angles better. But you are right. Magic wouldn't be magic without control. And oh, do I love the feeling when I can beat a well tuned control deck with one of my budget jank decks. Ooooohhh yes! Ps. Jank Style is a style. Respect.✊️

What about Rhonas the Indomitable ?!? 2🥦 - 5/5 - Deathtouch Indestructible (Attack or Block allowed only if you have another 4 power creature) Here is the catch👇🏼 2🥦: Another target creature gets +2/+0 this turn. Creature… Or even better, if plaid with the Legendary Planeswalker “Huatli, the Sun’s Heart” (2 🥦/☀️) “Each creature you control assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power”… 🤷🏻♂️
If it was just "sacrifice 5 creatures: transform", then you could just tap it for mana. That would make Ormendahl transform in tapped. The flexibility would make the card better, but maybe having a big hasty demon arrive tapped was lame, so the tap/untap was included and mana cost was adjusted accordingly. That's my guess.
In my defence deathtouch and vigilence have both been around for a LONG time (both since the beginning og mtg?). I will take your word that they were given the keyword after indestructible

I cannot imagine the impact: the powercreep between 2003 and 2023 is MASSIVE

If only Teeka's Dragon had indestructible, maybe then Nizza would compliment the card.

She has 0 points. She isn't very good in 60-card formats. Great in EDH though!
@@NizzahonMagic That is true. I do have her in my Grand Arbiter commander deck.
An opponent in a recent game of edh decided bouncing ulamog to my hand multiple times would be a good idea.
You would think they would have figured it out it wasn't a good idea after the first time. Haha.
I don’t know how hard this would be to make, but a top ten list of cards who gained the most points in any one year would be cool
I wonder if Kaldra compleat will have made it on here?
