It’s interesting to me that while Jace was the guildpact, he was still monoblue, but niv-mizzet, someone who was so closely associated with his color pair that they named the guild after him, is WUBRG.
@@NizzahonMagic I do think it could be seen as niv being closer to ravnica as opposed to jace being a planeswalker and sometimes just left for other stuff
@@NizzahonMagic Disagree, Niv was actually willing to accept the guildpact, which encompasses all the guilds and therefore all colours, whereas Jace never wanted to do it and was very reluctant, so kept his original colouring rather than accepting his job. Flavour win imo
So it does. It's 'Incarnation' that it got later. You'd think it was the other way around based on how creature types worked back then. That's what I get for going off memory instead of, y'know, just looking at the card.
Tbf, Kaldra Compleat would've made this list (it would have far more than 6 points, mainly because it has always been played as a 1-of in Modern Hammer Time), it just doesn't give the Avatar creature type
I really thought it was going to be Death's Shadow, but I forgot that *the unholy one* was also an avatar. I wonder if it would ever make it onto "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)".
Are there enough lands that do not inherently tap for mana for a top 10 of that? Like dark depths and Maze of ith? Not sure if urborg should count, but it could. Lands that don't tap for mana are interesting because you seem to get a pretty strong effect for using your land drop for turn
If Avatars are the embodiments of ideals and emotion, then Ebon Praetor represents Totally Awesome Punishment by Rabbit. A truly worthy and busted card.
You know what might be cool? A video of honorable mentions, cards that just bubble under top 10s, that are constantly just below the radar but still have some impact on the game.
I have a rules question: When you copy Dark Depths with Thespains Stage, do you have to sac the original to legend rule to get the token or can you sac the stage and still get Marit?
Oh wow, third easy one in a row, hell, I think the top 2 are easy, so let's try top 3. Hogaak 1, Shadow is 2, and Niv- Mizzet, Reborn 3? Edit: Bah, I was close.
7:20 "It hasnt gained a single point in the last 17 years" **checks the time frame** ...but 2007 was only like 5 years ago, right?...right?!
My little brother was born in 2007 and he's 17 now 🥲
@@purplethistle853 You need to start shutting the hell up right now 😂 I forgot I made this comment and now I feel old all over again...
I have to say... I *LOVE* that you provided the lore for these Avatars (or tried to guess one when there is none). 👏😁
Modern Horrizions 3 creature type: Eldrazi God Avatar.
What would that even be? A fusion of the Eldrazi Titans meld style?
Eldrazi god monkey elemental
Eldrazi God avatar isn't a creature as long as your devotion to any color is one or more.
Dont give them ideas

Yeah, it is a pretty big flavor fail.

Progenitus is one of those hilarious "canonically fucking enormous but doesn't have reach" creatures.
"Dark Depths decks" is my new favorite tongue twister
Personal Incarnation from alpha was always an avatar, not retroactively errata'd.

@@NizzahonMagic it's almost like they didn't really know what the hell they were doing back then, lol
It's always a shame that neither Kaldra, nor Phage, could make the list, but still a really fun list!
Be the change to want to see in the world

Why couldn't they make the list? Phage and Helm both are or make Avatars, respectively.
@@andrewsparkes6275 I think he just meant they don't have any points because they haven't won any tournaments

I just want to say thank you for your persistence
I really appreciate the lore/card history in your top tens as you go through list. Great stuff!!
Prediction: Hogaak! Shadow at 2 or 3 also.
Oh, Hogaak was an avatar?
But everything changed. When the Fire nation attacked.
I do have a soft spot for Autumn Willow. Would I use it? No. did I? a few times back in the day.
Pros like me use Autumn Willow to spice my seasonal food
I always enjoy your content. I particularly liked the new addition of mentioning the card's flavor; hope to see that in future top 10 videos!

Ah, nevermind, you did that back in 2019
I am HERE for all these little lore tidbits. Would love to hear it more often in other top tend

That RK post art on avatar of woe...

Anyone remember the Alternity ttrpg? He did the covers.

If Progenitus is the soul of alara what is child of alara?
I think it's the avatar of the Alara's Maelstrom.
Honestly didn't expect hogac that high, just because it is only legal in 2 formats.
One impractical but fun thing to do is to put a Behemoth Sledge on Ajani's avatar token.
How many times did you have to re-record saying "Dark Depths Decks" to get it so smooth? :P
Great video, buddy!
Top 10 highest mana cost cards that are cast for full cost in competitive play would be interesting.
Glad you mentioned woe
Dark depth decks

Going with Hogaak
Would have thought Sauron would have made it.
_And the number one is... Avatar of Me._
imagine an Avatar universes beyond, both the Cameron and ATLA ones lmao
ATLA would make a fantastic UB set imo
Calling #1 Death's Shadow.
Do one of these for worst avatars
I demand a refund for triggering my PTSD by mentioning Hogaak. Kthxbye
Avatar of Will is a good card.
O wow you can make hogaak commander deck yes I am that asshole
