Dinosaur being a supported creature type is the reason I got into Magic. My D&D group asked me to play Commander with them one day, and I said I wouldn't unless my commander could be a Dinosaur, and they built me a budget Etali deck to play with. I've been playing ever since.
Similar story with me! My friends were all playing commander and i watched them play and said i would only start if there was a dinosaur deck i could build! I have been running gishath as my commander ever since haha
Dinosaurs have also been my first deck. Considering to get eventually a breath of fresh air for that deck with Etail, Primal Conqueror and others that go Gruul color
I've always theorised a player's first set ends up being their main playstyle, in a more general sense. My first was Kaladesh and I looove taking advantage of artifacts and counters that go on players. My friend's was OG Innistrad and he loves graveyard synergies. And another friend's was Homelands and he likes underpowered piles of crap.
This has probably been suggested but I think an interesting top 10 would be cards that reference a creature type but don't qualify for the type lists (are not a creature of that type, and don't make a token of that type) or cards that don't reference a specific type but say things like "of a type" or "share a type".
I'm surprised Snubhorn Sentry has so few points. By my count it has at least 4 PT / MC top 8 finishes (2 PT Guilds, 1 MC I, 1 MC III) plus it has a fair bit of MTGO top 8 finishes in various events.
I think Thrashing Brontodon’s days on this list are number, since it’s basically strictly outclassed by Outland Liberator from Midnight Hunt, and that’s going to be in Standard for another year even if Brontodon is reprinted in Caverns
It's the whole 2 for 1 thing. Cards that pull double duty, even if they're less mana efficient, tend to be more powerful because they allow for more flexibility both in the deck building and in the individual games themselves. Look at it not as an uncommon, but a card that if you draw, can be a decently sized body for the cmc, or a way to get rid of a potentially game winning artifact or enchantment. Instead of getting 1 or the other, the draw is both at the same time.
@@zackestin1368 True, but I don't see them comparable. Aether Gust is playable. SC, on the otherhand, can completely dismantle an entire deck and makes mono-U not viable all on its own.
Maybe because blue has almost always been at the top, cause of its versatility Where green just cares for big creatures, which can only carry it so far
Favorite dinosaur cards for me is Gigantosaur and Tarrasque. Gigantosaur is 5 green for a 10/10. Tarrasque is 9 mana but comes with haste, Ward 10 as long as it was cast and fights target creature defending player controls. If you have enough ramp, these suckers are dangerous.
Out of curiosity, how many points does Topiary Stomper have? I know it’s been used a lot in standard to ramp into Etali, as well as Atraxa and Titan of Industry.
Ahh dinosaurs, what an insanely awesome and cool creature type. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll ever be as good as Dinosaurs in YuGiOh are. That deck was very, *very* strong for a while. Heck, it might have been so good it may break into "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)" just so Ultimate Conductor Tyranno can be on it!
I was at the point with Magic where I wanted to quit. I was about to sell my collection, and then they announced Ixalan and dinosaurs. Fast forward now. I was going to quit again, and they say we are going back to Ixalan. However, they say it's not going to be tribal based, which makes me think we won't get a lot of dinosaurs or support.
At the ixalan expansion block, they gave enrage mechanic and no reliable way to trigger it. Huatli planeswalker was bad in every print it had. Apart from ripjaw raptor, every dinosaur card or cards that supported the tribe, like forerunner of the empire, either costed 1 mana more than they should cost or had trash stats. Marauding Raptor, a card that could help a lot, was just released at M20. Hope they release better support cards at caverns of ixalan.
I don't get how half of these dinosaurs are better than even just original Etali. Guessing this don't take Commander into account. But even then I can still think of Dinosaurs who would be way better than thrashing brontoden who would never be played today ever because of how bad it actually is.

Every playgroup has the dinosaur guy! 😁
@@Delta-et3hxunfortunately, we call gishath whiffhath in my playgroup because it rarely gets more than 3 creatures a hit
No you didn’t
I did the same thing but with elves
Dinosaurs in magic hold a special place in my heart. As my first ever draft deck was a dinosaur deck
same for me and samurais
Dinosaurs have also been my first deck. Considering to get eventually a breath of fresh air for that deck with Etail, Primal Conqueror and others that go Gruul color
My first ever draft pull was Zacama. Fell in love instantly.

@andrewsparkes6275 my first set was shadows over innistrad. And vampires are my 2nd favorite creatures. Dinosaurs being first
Shifting ceratops would be a FANTASTIC reprint into standard. The perfect counter to those Haughty Djinn decks! (Plus Skylasher)
Is that the deck that needs nerfing??
We already got a perfect counter for Blue, it's called Howlpack Piper
@matheuscruz8574 essence scatter, scatter ray, and make dissappear only cost a single Blue mana with the Djinn out, sorry!
Why doesn't blue have something similar? That card is fucking stupid and show how Wizards despites blue.
You forgot, to list the most powerfull Dino of all, Colossal Dreadmaw!
I saw a video on another channel where they played Dreadmaw in Vintage lol
Forgot the actual #1, a card that was so strong that they haven't printed it into standard in a few years after printing it in several sets in a row.
Does it cost 4 generic mana and 2 green mana?
What card are you referring to
@@taninrobertson2262 Colossal Dreadmaw
@@taninrobertson2262 colossal dreadmaw. The most powerful card ever printed.
@@urtarreviews6484ah of course
I literally got into magic because of ixalan, and fell in love when i pulled a colossal dreadmaw in my first pack
13:45 one of my dad's favorite cards, although we juts play kitchen table magic.
Dinosaurs n Ixalan got me back into mtg. Got every dinosaur printed until this year.

So non-tribal tribal payoffs? 😅
@439801RS I mean they are payoffs for types, so Off-tyoe payoffs lol.

6:20 ... Hopefully Carnage Tyrant gets a reprint the next time we visit Ixalan.
would be in standard alongside its phyrexian version for 8tyrant decks (terrible, but funny!)
My favorite dinosaur is Apex Altisaur because it's big and can turbo-fight tiny creatures.
I think Thrashing Brontodon’s days on this list are number, since it’s basically strictly outclassed by Outland Liberator from Midnight Hunt, and that’s going to be in Standard for another year even if Brontodon is reprinted in Caverns
love me some dinosaurs. looking forward to ixalan. Also started to buy and build my commander deck irl.
Interesting that the number one dinosaur is just an efficient uncommon creature with naturalize upside.

We all know that Old Fogey is the true number one.
Thank you for dropping that new template you tried out a few weeks back! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Keep up the great work.
Playing Rotting Regisaur on turn 3 and playing Demonic Embrace on turn 4 getting a 10/6 flying feels amazing.
LOVE DINOS. Trying to find a place for rotting regisaur in my cube currently
If you feel the ground quake, run.
If you hear its bellow, flee.
If you see its teeth, it's too late.
Has Tranquill Frillback been seeing play? It's so similar to the Brontodon I have to imagine it's seeing at least some play in standard.
I used to love getting regisaur out turn 2 and then great henge on turn 3👽
In 3 years I expect Etali will be number one by a wide margin. Its gaining points in standard at a fast rate and rotation is longer now
yeah it’s basically atraxa 2 for reanimator strats and also has fair usage in a lot of red/x shells
Carnage Tyrant?
Edit:
Huh, didn't think a utility dinosaur would stay number one.
Did you watch the video? It’s number 9
@@baconsir1159 I always guess before I watch the video.
At least in being an Un- card, Old Fogey never was a Lizard. Ironic tho, given dinosaurs' ancestors.
Thank you for your guides. Been watching for years ^w^
I've always wondered why Green gets an insane anti-Blue card like Shifting Ceratops all the time, when Blue doesn't get anything in response.
aether gust was literally the same set
Mostly because blue straight up gonks on green
@@zackestin1368 True, but I don't see them comparable. Aether Gust is playable. SC, on the otherhand, can completely dismantle an entire deck and makes mono-U not viable all on its own.

Well, Blue's whole gimmick is clowning on aggro decks and green, so giving green an anti blue card is just the logical progression of things
