To be fair, the ride's 28 years old, any coaster that old will start seeing shorter lines on the regular. Viper in particular because it has a pretty high hourly rider capacity.
This ride feels like somebody took a sledge hammer to every other foot on the entire length of the track

so i hear rumors that somehow they will take out our Viper and replace it with a newer ride. I hope they never do. If they do, I will never go back to Magic Mountain, it really made me sad when they took most of the classics out for the newer zones/rides they keep adding. I've been going here for years. I've been on it multiple times and I had both a smooth and rough ride. but man is it fun for being the ONLY 7 INVERSION ARROW DYNAMICS MEGA-LOOPER IN THE WORLD!!!
Roller coasters are like people dude- they come and they go. Every roller coaster currently operating will shut down at some point in its life, and it will be removed and destroyed. So, don't worry about IF it will get torn down, because it 1,000% will. Enjoy it, and every other roller coaster possible, while you can. Then when it goes, don't be mad that it's gone, be happy that you were alive to enjoy it when it existed.
I love this coaster. When my dad and older brother were in line for X2, I got on this ride like 15 times in a row.
LOVE this ride. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as some of the other MM coasters but it is still one of my faves at the park. I love that Viper feels like its either going to fall apart or the train is going to fall off the track (partially because its so old), which adds to the excitement.
I agree it would be so much more fun if it weren't so jerky. At least it's not as bad as green lantern ...

My thought for Viper: It was quite a breathtaking ride overall and I think the ride itself it's completely decent. What I think about the ride is it's a somewhat rough in certain areas of the ride. Still, the majority of the ride is pretty good and that's what matters the most to me. In other words, if the ride is most likely in good hands overall, then why not give Viper as shot to ride on for a few times!

They fixed this one recently. The shoulder restraints no longer bang your head around. It's a very smooth ride now.
Batman still gives you batlash though.

This was the first ride of the day that I got on last Saturday. It gave me whiplash due to all the head banging I endured. It definitely ruined my day on a physical aspect. Kept feeling this annoying little pain in my neck whenever I turned it to the side.

The ride It's freaking awesome! But it was equally painful lol my head was bouncing side to side and it I kept hitting my ears >_< when I got off of it my poor ears and sides of my head were on fire :-0 but the ride is so unbelievably good that I would go through the pain of riding it again and again lol

People, stop complaining please, keep your head sticked out forward and you wont have a problem. Also for you coaster fans out there, there are way worse arrow loopers out there. This is actually one of the smoother/better ones. You just need to brace yourself, and you'll have the ride of your life! Love Viper!

I love this one, by far my favorite out of the 4 rides I went on (time crunch). I was in one of the carts in the middle and the ride wasnt too rough on me. I guess its different for everyone.
It's true this ride will kick the shit at you but it's still one of my favorites at six flags.

Those over the shoulder restraints gave me a headache afterwards on my first time riding.
I agree and sorry for the rude and or standoffish reply. Viper at SF Great America was one of the first rollercoasters that i remember riding with my eyes open, but The American Eagle remains my first and still favorite wooden coaster.
I am aware of the existence of the Viper at Great America. I misread your comment. I thought you said "this makes the Viper look like a kiddie ride".
I haven't ridden either, but I know that the Viper at Great America is actually the better ride. The one at Magic Mountain is very rough, and somewhat uncomfortable, and lacks the "airtime" that makes the Viper at Great America great.
Wooden track is easier to replace, so with good maintenance, they can be smoother than some steel coasters.

Viper is one of the really old school kinda rides. Back when they built it they had to bend the tracks on-site, which explains the occasional jolt. Nowadays all the parts are prefab'ed, so the results are usually smoother. Goliath is as smooth as a baby's bottom... not really. It only has lap bars though, that's why you don't bump your head. Riding Goliath is glorious because of the first drop and the helix grey-out zone towards the end :-)

It's an Arrow coaster. Actually, if they had Vekoma retrack this coaster and put their new trains on it, it would be less painful.
Anyone complaining about this coaster being rough let me tell you this. Just remember that this coaster was designed and built way before 3D computer modeling came out. So that's why this coaster was rough because they drew the design on paper and it's hard to make a coaster smooth when you're drawing it out.
Well it doesn't make it any less rough and hurt my head any less. It knida pooped on my whole day.
The thing is, is that by Arrow corkscrew standards, this isn't nearly as rough as some others, which is part of the reason why it hasn't been torn down (yet). Viper is like a massage compared to Great American Scream Machine, Ninja, Drachenfire, and Anaconda.

They done some work in the past to smooth some heavy trouble spots, but its an 80's machine.....still I loved it's high looping tracks

Magic Mountain changes from a "weekend's only" park to 7-Days-A-Week right after Easter. If you go on a weekday between Easter weekend and Memorial Day weekend, you will get a park that looks like a ghost town, yet it's open. They don't advertize this but I always make sure to visit at least a few times during this period. Weekends are still crowded BUT the weekdays are desolate. You're allowed to ride all the rides endlessly without having to get off and walk around.
I love the clanking sound corkscrews make when you're going up the lift hill :)
The clanking sound is from an anti rollback system, high is a safety device used to prevent the train from falling back down the lift hill.
I'm sure if they we're to replace the trains with the newer vekoma trains, and add the new restraint system that is seen on the refitted slc cars, this ride could be a blast!
Many many years ago I had visited here with a church group. I was scared to get on any rides. I ended up saying to myself, " I might as well ride it. I am not having any fun. I may regret it ." turns out that I was more nervous waiting for the ride then riding it
This and X2 are in my top 5 bucket list coasters

Nice video, if only the queues could have been this short when I was there.. Not a big fan of Viper, im a tall guy and my shoulders got pretty beat up by the straps. Rough ride!
This ride was scary to me in 1995, I rode it yesterday. Seems tame now. I chatted casually during the ride.
i love this ride with the only exception of the pretzel and the corkscrew cause my neck always cracks there
Viper the one that started it all 1990 my first trip to sfmm before this Disneylands Space Mountain was the best coaster I been on that all changed with a ride on Viper

This isnt a clone...Viper is a taller faster version of Shockwave which came out a couple years later. They both share the same elements in the same order. However, Six Flags Great Adventure's now defunct Great American Scream Machine was almost an identical layout except it was slightly taller than Shockwave. Sad to say both of these great rides are gone now. Hopefully Viper isnt next...

I wish I could ride this again, but it's way too damn painful. The last time I rode it, which was ages ago, it gave me a nauseating headache. >< It was my favorite ride when I was in middle school, since that's when it first opened. If they could just put on better restraints with more padding, this ride might be tolerable. But it's very shaky. Maybe they could smooth it out a bit? Idk, I just miss this ride and its awesome corkscrews.

I love this ride!!! The only problem is... IT GIVES U A FREEKING HEADACHE... it feels like a concussion your hole body will feel like crap!!! But it would be the best ride ever if it didnt hurt your head so wear earmuffs or something haha

Vinnie Tamburriello Oh yeah, for sure. Viper at Darien Lake isn't too rough. Viper at SFMM is noticeably rougher. It's not that bad if you're tall enough to press your shoulders against the restraints, though. Viper at SFMM is way more intense than Viper at Darien Lake. If SFMM's Viper wasn't so rough, it would be an absolutely amazing coaster...
