Body lifts are good for oversize tyres to gain gaurd clearance without fiiting ridiculously hig lift kits that will require massive changes to suspension components on the increasingly common independent front ends and in the case of 4x4s a diff drop kit to save cv joint damage.
Small suspension work can generally avoid these problems
Rams are very body lift friendly no gaps in bed or bumpers, and the exhaust tips are adjustable from factory
Any truck takes a body lift perfect if you run after market front and rear bumpers because if you sand them down and reweld a triangle piece length wise and repaint it the gaps filled and looks professional. Exhaust will be short but if it bothers you cut and weld a slant you'll be good.

My dads 2006 Ram 2500 had a body lift and if was fine for over 250,000 miles of hard use (towing and offroading).
I plan on doing one to my 2011 Dodge Dakota since there aren't that many suspension lifts that go over 4 inches and that is what I need for 35 in tires. Im thinking a 3.5 in front, 2 inch rear suspension lift, with a 2 in body lift.
I have a Ram 1500 and I want to put giant ass mud tires on it so I think I’m gonna do the 6 inch suspension lift plus a 3 inch body lift which would equate to about 9 inches. Then I can throw 39’s on it and run some shit over.

A lot of good points made in this video. I miss the good ol days when u could run an 8in suspension lift on a Chevy and then just for good measure throw on a 3in body lift and roll 42s like a God!
My 3 inch body lift was pretty easy to install on my 13 Silverado. Took about 1/4 the time it took to put on my 7.5 inch suspension lift and costed $200 while my suspension lift costed 3k. I find these videos amusing but not for the same reason as most of the followers do
I agree to disagree... body lifts can be inappropriate at times, but in my case, my k10 is already lifted 12", but for better clearance and stance with 44s, a 3" body lift really make the truck look great! The great part of this hobby is making your truck your own, at the end of the day it's all about what YOU like!!

PA bodylift for 4th gen rams is awesome. Includes a steering column extension. $90 gap guards hide the frame upfront, the truck itself hides the frame well everywhere else. Exhaust tips have a swivel joint, you can loosen and point them up to hide the gap at the back for free... ran this kit myself for 3 years and 100000kms with no issues. Add a 2" spacer and you can run 35.5" tires with no trimming all for under 400$. I also installed it myself in the driveway with a jack and socket set.

I’ve had a body lift on my truck for 6 years, never had any issue, I like the extra ride height, love the stance, and have no need for extra ground clearance. People who hate body lifts have probably never had a vehicle with one.
OntarioRedneXXX I’ve been in one and hate them. In my opinion, it’s just a disgusting excuse for lifting a truck. I’ll buy the absolute worst suspension lift before I ever buy the best body lift

OntarioRedneXXX the look mostly. It was also a newer truck so I didn’t like that the electric steering could just go to shit at anytime from the gap. Also, I felt like the body was just going to fall of the frame, but that was just in my head
PeRX I can assure you it’s not going to fall off the frame but to be fair I have only put them in trucks from the 90s. Maybe newer ones wouldn’t be so great but I couldn’t tell you. Realistically you can buy a coil spacer and block kit for the same 2” change you can get with most body lifts since the new trucks can’t be body lifted 3” most of the time

As you say in the video, body lifts are vehicle dependent. I think there is a good case to be made for them in certain applications.
For example, the old Toyota pickups (pre 95) have bodywork that is annoyingly tight to the frame. A 1.5" body lift makes rock slider installation easier and allows a gas tank lift with a new skid plate flush to the bottom of the frame. There are, of course, linkage considerations like the steering shaft that require some rework to do right. There are a few big advantages to a body lift on the old Toyotas. 1.) They allow for a minor drive train lift (higher T-case). 2.) They keep the center of gravity lower than a suspension lift, and that matters when you wheel your truck. 3.) Tire clearance improvements that'll clear 33s and chains.
When used reasonably as part of a system of vehicle modifications, body lifts can be valuable. The aesthetic downsides like gaps don't really happen when you have a flatbed and an aftermarket bumper.

Got me a 3.5” suspension lift and a 2” BODY lift along with it on a 2018 jku. I off road every single weekend. Install your stuff correctly and get the right pieces dont cheap out.
I dont think you are being realistic. How often are your customers actually going to use the full capabilities of their truck. Most likely none of them. They wont cross africa or climb pikes peak. They are all for show. That being the case. If both roads lead you to the point of being completely pointless. Why spend 2 to 8 grand on a lift kit when you can body lift it for 350. Just my 2 cents.

My Dad had a 1998 GMC Yukon Denali, and it had a 3" Body lift, 9" lift. It had 36" tires, but it also didn't have the gaps in between everything
I had a 2008 dodge ram with a 3" body lift and a suspension level. The truck rode and wheeled GREAT on 35s. Couldn't complain, it looked great also.

casey casey. my truck had a body lift, i mean a 95 silverado has rust issues, it makes sense seeing i don't have any pavement in a 10 mile radius. rust is a big problem in rural missouri, on a dirt road in the middle of nowere, but rn i own a ford ranchero, and im making a track beast

Just did a 2” body lift on my 2005 D22 and it was riding rough, so I made rubber dampers and installed them between the body blocks and the cab and it has no road vibration now.
Just loosen the bolts on the steering shaft and allow the shaft to move up with the lift and retighten and that fixes the steering shaft problem.
The exhaust has mounts on the body so it should just come up with the body.
Drill new mounting holes on your rear bar and bull bar and that fixes the gap problem.
2” wont stretch brake lines or electrical wires.
Problems only start when you go a 3” or bigger.

Blake Johnston I used some rubber conveyor belt from a saw mill and a hole saw in my drill to cut them out.
I got a ‘10 f150 with 6” suspension lift with added fox reservoir coilovers and 3” PA body lift, been about a year and it rides great, no complaints
Great on Older trucks 90's and older, Makes working on a lot of things easier

Let’s start with I love your truck. I have a very similar f150 with a 3” performance accessories, have for 6 years and it’s never been a problem at all. Body gaps don’t bother me at all and I don’t even notice them

Most kits come with or have available gap guards and bumper relocation brackets. But everything else was valid.

Yes, definitely not as desirable as a suspension lift, not aesthetically pleasing or practical, but for specific applications body lifts have their place.
1 inch body lift is great, makes it a lot easier to work on (depends on model) and still lets you move up to a larger tire is some cases. I had a 03 crew cab f150 with a body lift, I was able to pull the heads very easily with the cab and engine still in place, wouldn’t be able to do that with a suspension lift
Since I’ve done the 6” suspension lift and the 35” tires it’s left me wanting a little more lift.
Plus it will help cure my little bit of tire rub.
Me too, I went with 37" tires and wanted the higher look. Got a 3" body lift. ❤ it!!

@@rickvasquez6677 i'm no pro, as far as i understand a bodylift is purely aesthetic, it doesn't raise the suspension at all, so you don't gain any offroad capabilities, only looks.
i have heard that anything higher than 25mm bodylift drastically affects roadhandling though, making the vehicle less steady at highway speeds.

My 2011 Ram 1500 with a 3in leveling kit and 3in body lift is just as tall if not taller than my buddies 6in suspension lift. I did all the work and saved myself a ton. Only thing i had to have done was my exhaust tips lifted.. No gaps in the bumpers/fenderwells whatsoever! Looks clean as F and maintained the factory ride.. 4th gen Rams were made for body lifts!

So gap guards and bumper brackets fix most the problems and you get extra space around engine. Keep lower center if gravity and can install body lift in your driveway in 2 hours
Mine took alot more then that but was $200 compared to my $3500 suspension lift that took about 4 times longer to install
I did a 6” suspension and 3” body lift on my 98 f150. They were able to move my bumpers up with a bumper relocation kit, and put rubber skirts on the side to cover the body lift gap in the front and rear. They were like mud flaps that covered the gap. They looked pretty clean. I also beat the heck out of that truck for 80k miles with the lift and never had an issue. Maybe the newer trucks have a lot more crap to consider?

As long as you disconnect a few mounting brackets here and there and aren't a complete idiot you will absolutely never stretch or damage your factory harness. Factory harnesses just like most other factory parts like brake lines and fuel lines are built with a lot of extra incase they ever have to work on those areas themselves. The advice they give and knowledge they are spitting out is completely incorrect unless of course like I said you're an idiot and just start cranking on a jack without unclipping a few mounts to accommodate the lift. 😂
You mentioned the 00-06 silverados leaving a gap between the bumpers however they have kits to lift the bumpers back to where it should be @customoffsets

They make it seem so hard. I got a suspension lift kit and a body lift kit and all you have to do is move around things and make it look good. It’s not hard at all

I agree. However on the 99-06 Silverado I've veneer seen a lift bigger than 6.5 inches. To get a 9 inch lift you just add a 3 inch body lift so you can fit 37s.
My 98' Jimmy now has a body lift. And honestly, only because all of the suspension lifts I have seen are jenky at best. Alignment issues, replacement part issues, and lack of shops willing to work on a aftermarket suspension. I wanted suspension, but found myself installing the body lift in my driveway. Total cost, $105.00......
i have a 4" suspension lift and a 1.25" body lift on my jku. the body lift was only to help the clearance between the pinch seam and the frame mounted rock rails. as long as its not 3" or higher, i think its fine.
The 1.5in zone body lift is a fair lift. But the 3in body lifts are just to much.
i had a 1.5 body lift, looked fine. not really worth paying the labor to install one though. only really worth it if you install it yourself
Guinelle1 either way they are nice. I just wanted to do a leveling kit but needed just a little extra lift for tire clearance. So I went with the zone 1.5in body lift and I didn’t have to hack the shit out of my dif and cross members like a normal lift kit. To cover up the gap just a simple gap guard for $100 from RC.

Been using bodylift (2") on my 2012 Ranger T6 with no issue over 1 and half years. The wiring system, steering system have been custom made to reduce stretching and so on. Use on and off the road..
1996 f150. Install took maybe 2 hours. There's 12 bolts holding the cab and bed on. Super easy.
With older Chevy trucks ( '88 to '98 ) a body lift sure does make getting at the bell housing bolts a ton easier ( which was more or less stated ). While I totally agree with the opinion on aesthetics, with a little work a lot of that can be cleaned up and be made to look decent anyway. I always do the body lift before any custom exhaust is made to save reworking the tail pipes later. One of the biggest headaches I see today though, the gap from the bottom of the rear bumper to the receiver hitch. Not too many years ago, that problem was easily fixed by installing a drop bumper, good luck finding those today though.
First off let me say I like your videos. I had to run a 3" body lift for my 4 wheel drive 97 E350 van to install the 12V Cummins 6bt and still have room to get my hands around the motor or pull the turbo. I still had to make a low profile custom engine mount in the frame. Best part about the Ford vans is you still can't see the frame from the bottom. And immediately went from 29 inch tall tires to 35 inch MT tires. This is a Dana 60 F350 solid axle swap with a 205 divorced transfer case. This Cummins replaced a 351 Windsor roller cam. The power and MPG is so much better I can now Hall a 32-foot bumper pull RV trailer with ease. After I install the road armor style bumpers sending it in to get painted and new interior and seats. Keep up the good work.

What about a level kit stacked with a 1.5" body lift just to gain that slight increase in tire clearance? Seems like a pretty minimal change to the truck imo. Specifically for the Ram's.

Good input, good points to consider, but I still think I'm gonna go with a body lift and a front end suspension leveling kit on my 2016 Ram. I don't wanna go super tall and I want to retain as much of the factory ride quality as possible. I only plan on doing like 2" body and 2" leveling kit for the front. If there are wires and hoses that get stretched it should be minimal and will be really easy to correct with just 2"inches. Just snip and relocate some of the factory wire harness ties and get extended brake lines, stuff like that.

Body lift is great if you want to put a v8 in a mini truck... Also keeps cg lower and suspension geometry stock (less wear). By combining a small suspension lift, body lift, and some fender trimming, you can get a fair amount of tire clearance for cheap. The biggest issues are looks and stress on wiring systems...
I have a 95 k1500 GMC that rolled 138k yesterday, it has a 3 inch body lift already, it was on there when I got the truck about a week ago, I want to either add a 4 inch lift or completely take out the body lift and go with just a 6 inch suspension lift. Which would be easier and I will be doing this myself. But yeah what would be easier and more worth it

If you do a body lift right get bumper relocation brackets and gap fillers hang your exhaust back where it should be steering extensions . Its not a bad option
i had a suspension and body lift on one of my trucks...97 f350. Never had any problems, took it off road a lot. Those gaps at the bumpers on certain trucks do look ridiculous though
I think your public should benefit from the pros as well as the cons of a Body Lift: If it is done by a knowledgable garage, and all the stated problems are addressed, it is a great small budget oriented option. It allows fitting of larger tires, the most important modification hands down! It allows all the stock suspension (manufacturer built tried and tested) to be used. It keeps the Center Of Gravity low which is a huge benefit when running off camber trails.
Looking at a 2" body lift on my 25yo truck bc my rubbers are squished.
I run a 5 and 1/2 terraflex on my Jeep and a 1 inch body lift so I could lift the engine, transfer case and transmission without having to drop them to get the angles right for the rear driveshaft you can't tell on my Jeep but I know what you mean you're right about having to stretch things.
I had an ‘87 Bronco Fullsize. When I bought it, it had an 4 inch suspension with a 3 inch body. Another thing to add to your points is not to have a body lift would be the radiator fan shroud, radiator itself and the fan do not correctly line up. Mine had a shroud that was in two pieces, so the bottom half was left off. This could cause overheating issues for some vehicles. (Mine didn’t ) Yes, some come with factory electric fans and others can be added, but this is just one more thing to worry about with a body lift.
I got 4" lifted Ranger T6 and 2" bodylift just to fitted larger wheel..

Some kits come with covers to cover up the gap under the bed. And you can fit bigger tires with a 3" body kit then a 3" suspension kit. Also you are changing the geometry of you suspension with a suspension lift.
Why do they hate body lifts? Because they cost less then suspension lifts and they want you to spend more money.
Having to extend wires/lines, bumper alignemnt issues, lifting entire cab/bed. The gaps etc.
Also said the cost of install is more than suspension lift, dingle dick.

I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota. I initially went with a suspension lift because of the fact that it was cheaper and appeared to be easier. With my model that means torsion bar keys that adjust the suspension on the front upward. 8 years later I've decided to install the body lift now and relieve some of my suspension lift. My reasoning for this is that my ball joints last 6 months at best. I have replaced my CV axles seven times in 8 years. So my question is what is your solution for the suspension lift wearing out my front end components? Side note I have installed all high-end suspension components on my front end And I installed a differential drop.
I have a 98 RAM 1500 with a body lift and huge leaf springs! Yes you can see a big gap in wheel wells but I don't care. It's a monster I love it!
I love how my 1997 Z71 OBS Chevy truck drives, rides & handles with it's 3" Tuff Country body lift/Rough Country body mount step bars/rubber gap covers & full 2.5" Skyjacker suspension kit/UCAs/diff-drop & Skyjacker M95 shocks (adjusted to 2 inches)!
Better ride than stock, has more travel than stock and handles better than trucks with 6" lifts.
My 5" combined total lift can't be beat for a daily driver setup IMHO!
The ONLY other great lift option for OBS Chevys is a 6" BDS lift kit, but I'd only opt for one of those, if i was planning on doing a lot of offroading. My setup works more than well enough for intermediate trails and average offroad outings....
I want to put a body lift on my 79 f250 2wd but keep finding one's that won't work if steering box is behind the spindle next to firewall

I honestly luv my 6 inch lift and have no complaints. Installed it alone in my garage for under $600 brand new. Zone 3 inch body lift and 3 inch spindles on my 2wd 4dr 06 Silverado with Chevy replicas and 35s. The gaps are easily hidden. At a true 6 inches of lift, truck sits level and still rides factory comfortable cuz i haven't changed any of the factory suspension angles.

Doesn’t that cause damage if you leave the geometry stock? I thought you were supposed to compensate things like that with new shocks struts and arms
@@gregballard4318 2wd lift spindles keeps everything in stock geometry. Control arms are totally flat and no extra stress on ball joints except for the added weight of 35s. I did upgrade to the cheapest Monroe monotube shocks to handle the extra weight of 35s but they were still stock length replacements.

I ran a 3 inch body lift for years on my 2014 silverado i also had a 9 inch suspension i loved the ride quality every truck show i went noone ever knew i had a body lift was running gap guards and i built relocation brackets for my tow hitch

Duran with the 1.5 u don’t have to worry about the steering being stretched that is only for the 2 inch body lift and 3 inch you are good
Most jabronies don't understand that by doing a suspension lift you also change the rack and pinion angles on the drive shafts. Your driveshaft can handle up to 4 degree angle change, but anything over that will cause vibrations and premature wear on the differentials. This is why most suspension lifts are now steering closer to 5'' and 5.5'' vs 7-8''.
What a body lift does allow you to do is to lift up your truck without messing with geometry of the suspension and keeping the center of gravity tad bit lower. So if you want a big monster lift, you would go with a 5'' suspension lift and couple that with a 3'' body lift to create a real big lift without having to elongate driveshafts and create who new set of expenses.
Anybody who gets into 10+ inches of lift will have to deal with driveshaft and drivetrain issues when lifting that high.
Well said, when I got a 7 inch suspension lift I completely forgot about the driveshaft issue, mainly the front one. Welp 600 to get the t case cranked, but that's still not enough because the axle can't be rotated so the front ujoint is at an angle and the other end is a cardan joint so technically it has no angle, so end result...vibrations. Gotta get a dual double cardan front shaft 😐

Pretty simple straight forward and cheap way to gain up to 3 inches. Costs under $200 usually and anyone can do it themselves with basic tools and time. If you do what you're supposed to you won't stretch or damage wiring or any other thing either.
as offroader i love jeeps and 4x4's the most i can go with a body lift is 1 inch , some people put those 3 inch body lift but it not really safe
Body lifts and Block lifts on the rear are the ugliest lifts, plus block lifts can be dangerous. I saw a truck that probably had 50 grand put into it and the guy had 6 inch blocks in the rear, like wtf?
05 ram 2"bodylift no problems. got the clearance I wanted for 35" tyres. made fr/rr bumpers to swap from factory so I took up the gaps. replaced exhaust an made to fit. don't have to worry about premature wear of drivetrain. unlike guys that go to suspension lifts.

I have a 08 tundra with a 7" bds lift on it. I'm currently running 22x12 on it. Now I was trying to see what can I do to run 24x14 on it?

I purchased a 2013 F150 Supercrew that came with a complete Rough Country 6" lift kit. I want to lift it an additional 2". Can I just purchase certain Rough Country lift components or do I have to purchase a complete 8" lift kit? I was considering just adding a 2" body lift but your video changed my mind.
You could possibly do that, however it is mostly recommended to just order the 8" kit.

Just got a lift on 2004 Monte Carlo SS. 3inch lift. But now they are saying I have to drop differential. Installed loaded struts. Now when I go feels like axle not turning right. Can u help on what I need to do now?
I custom fabricated some raised(1inch) laser cut 3/16” mounts along the rocker panels for my Jeep to keep them from getting smashed on rocks while wheeling. On top of those I installed some Currie enterprises 1inch body lift (a far better design than the puck style) gaining a total of 2 inches of tub clearance. This allowed me to install a 2 inch motor mount raise and do a true tummy tuck of all the drivetrain components without sacrificing drivability. Then again, my Jeep is also sitting on 1 tons, 14’ coil overs and 42’ mtrs so it’s probably not all that noticeable
Had one on my 07 gmc and never any issue even still to this day 14 years later.
Did a 2 in body lift on my 2000 explore and ran 33's came out pretty good I ha ent had any issues 🤷♂️
what about running both?. I have a 6 inch suspension right now on my 05 suburban and was thinking about a 3 inch body lift to run 37s. would that be a good idea or wait to buy a larger suspension lift?
All personal preference David. if you can fit 35's on it now, you can fit 37's with a 3" body lift!
The 3rd gen 1500 rams only go up to a 6inch lift that wasnt enough so I got a body lift I wish they make taller lifts for them
Body lifts are extremely useful in the custom world. They give clearance for a lot of things if you don't want to cut into your floor pan. As a stand alone lift, yes,they are pretty stupid. My jeep has a 1" body lift. Its so the nv4500 transmission has clearance as well as my significantly larger fuel lines. Plus, i can access the top of my gas tank for minor fixes with the fuel lines. If I didn't do a body lift, Id need a new hood because my v8 would be hitting it and my transmission would hang way too low.
I got a body lift on my truck never got a problem except for the tow hooks that are in front of the truck I got one with Big O Tires was selling them
This depends so much on the vehicle you have. Do your own homework on this. Some take to body lifts easily, others well, yeah, they should be avoided.

I looked into it for my z71 colorado trail boss and it is terrible because of the stretching. I suggest a 3 to 4 suspension lift. I feel the extra dollars will save you from costly repairs

Body lifts also make working on vehicles easier. The newer vehicles are just too complicated compared to the older trucks.
We call them puck lifts in Canada, because a lot of ppl will just use hockey pucks. Although it's usually ppl with an old beater truck that they want to stuff some massive tires on.
2010 ram. What if I did a 2 in suspension lift with a 1 in body lift ? ThAt shouldn’t stretch the wiring ?

You can do it if you need to yes
So for older trucks such as you mentioned a 90s K1500, would you then recommend a body lift since there are not as much wires, or would still personally rather have a suspension lift?
