I found this tutorial a couple of years ago…or so…and was captivated by how beautiful the finished hats were.. I made a couple, and gave them to a charity.. I’m back, because I still think the Stormy Waters hst is among the prettiest crocheted out there.. Thank you for creating somethung that is truly special…and not that hard to do.
Loved this pattern , such a great texture,a fun , not boring pattern, great showcase for variegated yarn. I did a double crochet ,front post back post and a crab stitch row, each for my hats finish. This one is a keeper. Great head hugger for chemo wearers.
This is my favorite beanie pattern. I’ve made many of the stormy waters hats as well as your lovely matching scarf. Thanks for your charming dialogue, easy to follow instructions and all your encouragement!
I love this tutorial! I am a beginner crocheter and I am not having any trouble following along. You make it so clear and even fun. I plan on making this hat (still using the tutorial) over and over again. The hat is beautiful. I plan on getting the same yarns you used and doing it with each. Right now I am using what is in my stash. Thank you so much for the fun I have been having and for the fun to come.

A big thank you for the tutorials I now followed you making the Stormy waters beanie hat as well as the scarf they turned out wonderful. I intend on giving them as gifts for my friends and family. Your instructions were very clear and easy to follow.

Hey! I just finished my first Stormy Waters Hat....It’t not perfect, by any means, but I love it! Can’t wait to do another one. The next ones will be smaller....for Billie’s little kids. I plan to get a couple if skeins if Landscapes, but this first hat was done with Red Heart’s Favorite Stripes. The colors worked out pretty well. BTW.,. Wow Sandy! That's awesome ❤ Always love to hear my patterns being included in donation work❤, and I really appreciate your kind comments! I'm sure your hat turned out perfect! Thank you so much for your interest in my patterns Sandy!❤❤
The LB Landscapes and RH Unforgettable looks so much prettier with this type beanie. I love Hobby Lobby but theirs don’t compare to the other two brands for the hat. I have your pattern printed and getting ready to make mine from Unforgettable Waves I bought a box of 12 skeins for $1 each at Dollar TREE. Beautiful colorway too. 😊💗🧶☀️
Thank you so much Tana! I agree! Love the Unforgettable! I'm so glad to hear you got in on the dollar tree gold mine! Gaww I love when they get fun yarn in stock! 🙌🙌
Mary Morrell The stores to my understanding do not carry it or there are few that may. I ordered online and it’s just beautiful. I bought the Unforgettable Waves and it comes in 3 colors as of now. Depends on where you live and if you’re close to their distribution centers. I ordered 24 skeins and I was able to not pay shupp8mg and have it sent to my local store for pickup. We did. I went to order more and they say I have to pay shipping to have it sent to my home this time. Strange but it is worth paying the shipping. I’m getting ready to order a case of 48 skeins in two more colors. The yarn is beautiful but limited colors and stock. Hold this helps... 😊🧶 Oh it’s Dollar Tree and not the Dollar General. Sorry if that was confusing.
PS.. I have started a hat, using Red Heart Favorite Stripes.. it’s looking good, but I think Landscapes will be much better. I love the nice texture.. thanks, again.💜
Would really love to see your finish if you have a picture if it Sandy over in the group! 😊 I feel like I have seen your work over there before? Yes? 😊
You are the best, very detail instructions.i have this Lionbrand yarn,Tweed stripes. What hook size should I use? I want to keep the same size in ur tutorial. Thanks👍👍
Thank you Lien! ❤ I'm sorry, I'm not 100% sure on that, it shouldn't be too far off and you may still be able to get away with using a J hook. Just make sure the measurement on the crown of your hat is correct 😊
Hi! I Absolutely love this hat! I just started it a few minutes ago after watching your great tutorial! I’ll be featuring it on my next video! Thank you so much! 💜🤗
Colleen, I love the pattern for the stormy waters scarf. There are 2 things that I personally had trouble with. One, the video quality was not very good. Maybe you can update it using a better camera. Although I realized that you filmed it 3 years ago. 2nd, as I was trying very hard to follow (video quality) you also used a dark yarn, which made it almost impossible to see. I’m really excited to continue watching your tutorials as you give good explanations but im a visual learner. Thank you and looking forward to your tutorials.
Hi Angelina! I'm so sorry I am just replying, so many things going on in my world, but I wanted to thank you for your feedback. I did do a remake on the SW scarf back in 2020 because of this very issue, but unfortunately it was kind of tucked away in a yarn review, so I'm linking it here from the starting point of the actual scarf pattern. ruclips.net/video/UQGkHjMFqB4/видео.html Again, thank you for your feedback and for your interest in my patterns! Really appreciate it =)
Dear Colleen, Oh I love that pattern and you made it so easy to do to perfection. I am making a few for Christmas with the " Landscapes " yarn, it makes them so beautiful. What row do you end the pattern with or would you suggest something. Thank you so much, I am enjoying it so much. Lilly.
Hi Lillian! Thank you for your kind words! I'm so sorry it was not in the video. for whatever reason I had it in the written only.. the best way to end this would either be with a round of half double crochets, or you can work a couple of rows of alternating fpdc and bpdc to create a more ridged band.👍😊❤
What's your hat measurement at the end of increase? I am using a different yarn and I want to see if I need another full round of increase or even 1/2 increase. TYIA
Thank you Sandra! I'm so happy to hear =) Have you seen the scarf by chance that this pairs with? If not, check it out! It's fun, easy & quick to work up and would make a great gift set! =)
I am making my hat with a generic yarn that is similar to a Caron Simply Soft and a 5mm hook. My hat is more open and with more holes and openings that yours. Possibly because the yarn was a thinner #4 weight. Never sure about hook size. Maybe a bigger hook would have made a difference. Anyways, I am just loving this pattern!!!
Thank you so much Sue! I haven't tried it with different weights, just different yarn brands, so I'm not sure, but you might actually see more holes with a larger hook size if you are using a lighter weight. Ugh! Wish I could tell you off the top of my head =/
For those that are newbies it would be easier to understand, how to make the 3 DC clusters, by saying the 3 DC goes into the sc from the previous round. I kept hearing you say the middle DC. Also on the row with making the 3 DC clusters, I slip stitch into the sc therefore no chance of making a mistake. I made the scarf last yr so I understand the pattern. Not trying to be rude just thought I'd try to clarify this as some people may not understand. Thanks for sharing and your time!
I think I must have missed how you ended the project.. Did you end with a slip stitch or single crochet around the brin- and if so , do you know how many stitches? Thx for the easy to do pattern.
Hi Colleen, I really love this hat and would love to try it, but as a complete beginner I think I would also need the printed pattern, please advise how I can obtain this. Thanks from Scotland
Hi Margaret! All patterns in written form are available at YarnWars.com as well as in downloadable pdf format in the Files tab of our Facebook group at: facebook.com/groups/yarnwars
Love your beanies! They look so warm. I'm following your video and my beanie seems to have opened spaces between the 3dc in one, skip 2 and 3dc all the way around. Yours don't look like they have the gaps. What can I be doing wrong?
@@chaysiecrochet, I'm using Red Heart Super Saver to try out the pattern. I am also using the 6.0mm crochet hook. Would it work f I go down a hook size and add a few more stitches to make it the size I need?
@@bejeweledbybea I could probably be more help if I tried working this up myself using the RHSS... It's hard to say because the yarn types I did make these beanies up with had alot of bounce back / elasticity so it kept all of the stitches pretty close. I will do a quick run of this with the SS later today and tell you my results. Unfortunately, I also find that some of the RHSS color ways are not alike... some seem thinner than others and this could be the possible reason. Hook size should be fine but it possible could help with that yarn to drop down one.
Love this hat, but I need clarification. When you say "work the 3dc cluster into the middle DC, don't you really mean work into the SC from the row before? (the SC that is between the 2 FPDC) or Do you mean to work into the middle DC of 2 rows below? It looks like you work into the SC....
A winner. This is the hat COLLEEN. I'll be doing the scarf to match. Not sure how many I should chain or how wide for the scarf or how long. Never made a beanie or scarf but a very experienced crocheter. I did notice the scarf wants to try to spiral down. I'm not a great fan of that. I don't think it can be prevented. I think I'm adding one more round of increases on the scarf. He's actually not a big guy but I'm sending an ear band for next to his head. But I don't want his hat down over his eyes either. But I'm in Utah and he's in Montana and it's a surprise. Yay me.
I always get so nervous with gifts across the miles on crochet... I pray and pray that it fits the recipient, when I don't have measurements that is. Thanks for your interest in my patterns Lynda! It means a lot ♥
Yes, you did describe it totally confusing and I had to rip out 2 rows and start over. This isn't my 1st rodeo, so I was disappointed. This isn't the time of year to make mistakes. It is a beautiful hat and I want mine to turn out gorgeous, too, I just didn't realize it was going to be an 8 hard level when it should only have been a 3 🥲
There was a revised video created for this hat not long after making the 1st video. There is a redirect for it on the original video as well. ruclips.net/video/bAwfLjW_xp4/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Pull ur yarn from the middle, then u don't have to remove the label and it won't unravel all over. As I use up the yarn, I put a rubber band around the label to keep it in place and snug.
Well Shelline ;) A 147 yrd skein, which is Lionbrand Landscapes will make a hat but not a pom pom, The Yarnbee at 135 yrds also made a hat without pom pom. Really hard for me to say how much exactly in yards when there are variations in sizing, length, all that fun stuff, but that should give you an idea.
Hi Karen! I'm so sorry I didn't have that in the video, it is something I include in the written pattern, I should have as well in here. You can absolutely do a round of hdc for the final repeat of this, another thing I like to do to finish off all of my hats is work 2 or more rows alternating fpdc to create a more ridged band. I believe the slouch version of this hat may have included the ending I just described. I'll check to make sure, but thank you for making me aware of it, I will add to the description of the video shortly to help others! 😊❤
Hi Karen! I just wanted to pop in here again to let you know that I did finish up in the slouch hat pattern. I will link it here, but if you start watching it at about 30 minutes in you will see that I ended with the last row in the repeat round and then how I went on from there. I hope this helps it will be the same for the beanie 😊ruclips.net/video/Sb09fu-RlDo/видео.html

Also on the row with making the 3 DC clusters, I slip stitch into the sc therefore no chance of making a mistake. I made the scarf last yr so I understand the pattern. Not trying to be rude just thought I'd try to clarify this as some people may not understand. Thanks for sharing and your time!
I agree =) Thanks for the tip! Have a great day ♥
nice design , Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Teresa! 😊
I think I must have missed how you ended the project.. Did you end with a slip stitch or single crochet around the brin- and if so , do you know how many stitches? Thx for the easy to do pattern.
Completely my fault Fran, instructions to ending this project are included in the written pattern linked in the directions.
I love this, i had to subscribe. Can't wait for the slouch hat too!
Slouch hat is not far behind! Thank you so much for your comment =)
I love this pattern
Thank you Jennifer! 😊❤
Hi mam.is this for adults or childern ?plz tell the size .its very beautiful and very easy .🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤❤
Different sizes available in the linked written pattern =)
Love your beanies! They look so warm. I'm following your video and my beanie seems to have opened spaces between the 3dc in one, skip 2 and 3dc all the way around. Yours don't look like they have the gaps. What can I be doing wrong?
Thank you so much!❤ There is a slight gap but not much, what are you using for yarn, same hook size that I am using?
@@chaysiecrochet, no worries. I will try a smaller hook and see where it takes me. Haha Thanks so much!
Love this hat, but I need clarification. When you say "work the 3dc cluster into the middle DC, don't you really mean work into the SC from the row before? (the SC that is between the 2 FPDC) or Do you mean to work into the middle DC of 2 rows below? It looks like you work into the SC....
COOL BEANZZZ
Fantastic work thanks
You're so kind ♥ Thank you Judy!
@@chaysiecrochet Oh thank you for your time and commitment. You inspire us to create.
You're too sweet ❤ Thanks again Lynda 😊
Yes, you did describe it totally confusing and I had to rip out 2 rows and start over. This isn't my 1st rodeo, so I was disappointed. This isn't the time of year to make mistakes. It is a beautiful hat and I want mine to turn out gorgeous, too, I just didn't realize it was going to be an 8 hard level when it should only have been a 3 🥲
There was a revised video created for this hat not long after making the 1st video. There is a redirect for it on the original video as well.

Precioso gorro muy fácil de entender gracias por el tutorial me quedo precioso saludos desde Guatemala
You are so kind Vicky ❤ Thank you for your comment and your interest in my pattern! 😊
Pull ur yarn from the middle, then u don't have to remove the label and it won't unravel all over. As I use up the yarn, I put a rubber band around the label to keep it in place and snug.
Thank you Linda! That's a great tip!
Thank you for this. Definitely a future make for me. New subscriber here.
Thank you so much SmileyLady! ❤😊
Hi madam
Which type of thread is that?
Lion Brand Landscapes =)
All skeins are not the same yardage. How many yards to complete this hat?
Well Shelline ;) A 147 yrd skein, which is Lionbrand Landscapes will make a hat but not a pom pom, The Yarnbee at 135 yrds also made a hat without pom pom. Really hard for me to say how much exactly in yards when there are variations in sizing, length, all that fun stuff, but that should give you an idea.
Child size possibly how many rows before starting the different stiches like the 3 clusters and so on
Hello! For a child size I would simply eliminate round 5 and move directly into round 6 after 4. 😊👍
You didn't do the last round of the written pattern? Ch 1 and hdc in each stitch. Is it not necessary?
@@chaysiecrochet Thank you so much for replying. It's been a busy week for me, so I haven't finished my hat. I really like how it's turning out! I will look at the slouch hat tutorial. I plan to make that one also!
@@karenh2890 I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying the pattern and do appreciate you bringing that to my attention 😊
Thank you I'm sorry I just didn't get the pattern cause watched you on my phone .

I mean such pretty colours.
Thank you Cheryle! =)
