Okay, i just watched the video (to be sure nothing failed like the first episode!!) and i think that Simon is scared of space ?! I think that is why he was looking at Zoe and Mal suiting up that way, and also why he made that weird face when looking at the stars! am i right? if so, i totally misread that in my reaction!! haha
@JustsMyles15 sort of? Part of me think it’s slightly more nuanced. Clearly he’s afraid of what space can do; to me, that comes down to not entirely trusting the suits, in much the same way that being afraid of heights is, to some degree, a matter of not trusting that you won’t fall for some reason. Regarding the shot of him looking away from space when he and River are outside, here’s how I read that: The thing about space is that people are generally weightless. Weightlessness means that there isn’t really any “up” or “down”; “up” is every direction since you can’t really fall “down”. But, it also means that every direction is also “down” if you think of it that way; even if you’re looking “up” (away from your feet). My reading of that was that he looked “out”, saw “down”, and his stomach did a flip flop because the stars looked really far away (so they looked like they were waaaaaay below him). So, it's space and it scares him, but in that shot, he's scared of the "height" part, not the space part. I could be way off base here, but I have read science fiction stories which discussed space in those terms.
Absolutely. As he said, the idea of just a little bit of Mylar and glass being the only thing separating you from nothingness (the vacuum of space) terrified him. Jayne knew that, which is why he tricked Simon into thinking that he had to put on a spacesuit and venture into what he thought was the vacuum within the derelict spaceship.
Yeah. When Simon was talking about being scared of using the space suit, you spoke over his line because you thought he was staring at Zoe. It all would have made more sense after hearing him say "Just the thought of a little Mylar and glass separating you from… nothing."
Simon did say to Jayne that it was just the thought of a little mylar and glass (meaning the space suit) between a person and the void of space. Clearly, since he is a doctor in a spacefaring civilization, he knows what the vacuum of space does to a human, and he's freaked out by it.
Simon was acting weird there because the thought of open space scares him. He talks about how just a little Mylar and glass being the only thing between a man and the endless blackness of space. It is implied that he is scared. It is re enforced in the scene where they are both outside of the ship in the space suits. River doesn't share the same fear, but when Simon looks over his shoulder at the vast expanse of space, he has to turn away quickly. I imagine it is a similar situation to Thalassophobia. This is a really good episode, the elements of horror and mystery. Along with the comic relief of the interviews. Can't wait for the next one! (But take your time as always!)
I would add to that moment where the siblings are hiding... Simon knows he has an intense fear of space. He's been experiencing it in the past hours. But he sees that look of wonder and delight on his sister's face. He just can't help but look at what has captivated her. And then immediately regrets it - back to his own perception of the world.
The characters are really well establish!! Most shows takes a little longer normally to get acquinted to characters like that, so i really like that from Firefly!!
Don't mind us at all, you shouldn't feel stress about having to release videos - you do it because you think it's fun and shouldn't see it as a chore, cheers :)
Imagine you're driving down a remote road. You're the only car on the road. As you're driving you notice a truck crashed on the side of the road. You stop to check on the truck. Inside you find the driver is dead. In the back of the truck you find valuable cargo. You decide to load a few boxes of cargo into your car before leaving. Just as you start to drive away, a cop arrives. He sees you fleeing the scene of an accident. He might stop you for that reason alone. If he finds that you took some of the cargo from the crashed truck, you might be in some serious trouble.
Love the reaction, and you're adorable as always :) Simon was indeed staring at the spacesuits, lamenting his fears of them, not Zoe. Edit: Omg I also need an emotional support pumpkin!

20:49 I would guess the laws of spaceship salvage in the Firefly universe are similar to marine salvage today. A shipwrecked or sunk ship in the ocean still belongs to its owners. If another ship salvages the cargo off it, that belongs to the owners too, although the salvage ship must be paid a fee for their help. I guess Alliance cruisers, like the US Coast Guard, have the right to board any ship, any time
"Bushwhacked": What Fox TV did to "Firefly." A free-for-all ball game leads to a body and an object in space hiding a phantom menace.;) 3:10 Paraphrasing what a sage from a different movie said: "What you find here is what you bring with you." 3:31 It's time for your Browncoat fitting. 25:50 To paraphrase from another movie: "The Alliance displays 2D thinking."
Watch "DELETED SCENE NO.2" for more on the Battle of Serenity Valley. You will understand the relationship between Mal and Zoe and why Mal lost his faith in god. Still do not understand why they cut this scene.
FYI "Bushwhacked" the title of the episode, means ambush attack, often in the wilderness. It's a real English word and pronounced just like it looks, "bush" and "whack" like hitting something. It fits the horror vibe of the episode.
Thank you!! I LOVE fall and Halloween! I am planning on doing a halloween/horror movie reaction every day for the week of halloween (was supposed to be one movie a week during the month but that failed 😂)
Well, to be fair, they are attached to a vessel that appears to be in some kind of distress. That would probably give them probable cause, which means warrants aren't necessary. Then again, as you said, Alliance. Their police is likely to have more power than what we have in democratic countries.
Ah! I knew it wasnt a sweatshirt, but couldnt remember the word 😝 and for River, yeah, i am trying to remember everything that she says (i should take notes 🤔 i see a lot of reactors doing that!) because honestly, i trust "crazy people" in these scenario! They weren't taking "Alliance goods". They were taking the private property of those people that had died. When an ocean-going ship crashes here in the real world, there are laws governing the recovery of any cargo on that ship. It isn't just "finders keepers".
Recall, Josh was trying to keep the ratings in the 15-17 range not 18+. So, while we all know what a reaver harvest would look like, having entrails, blood, brains and other internal accoutrements lying about. That would have spiked the ratings, and he was by this point already dealing with heat from above. Here is the brain fever for me, we see all the sighs of at least two or mor kids and they say Fifteen Families. Yet not one child found, any one care to speculate what the reavers do with them? As to the "Aliance Goods" Aliance don't give one little rabbit pellet about the goods they are just reason to impound ships make some people bend the knee.
Now, one detail that might have corroborated Mal's story for the Alliance captain (funny that this is first time I clocked this): When they ID'd the ship, they said it had been due to arrive 3 weeks back, but never made it. So if Serenity had attacked it, it means that they stuck around the scene for nearly a month afterward. Who would ever do that!?
Also, the Alliance captain has really never been away from the inner planets before - anyone who's been on the outer worlds for long, or hauls cargo for the outer planets, *knows* that reavers exist, and are just as bad as Zoe said. It's only city-folk, the people on the safe, fully terraformed, high tech inner planets who think reavers are just stories to scare children.
You may grow to regret wanting to see the Reavers. No spoilers, but between Zoe's explanation in the pilot episode and this guy, Jayne and everyone else has good reason to be afraid of them.
Whenever River says something "crazy," pay attention; it's a clue. Is River a medium? Doubtful. Either she can "hear" strong emotions when in the place where those emotions occured (that's one theory of what ghosts are), or she's hearing the memories of the "survivor." The second is more likely, IMO. And throughout the series Simon remains oblivious to River's true abilities. When she makes it *so* obvious that she knows something she shouldn't that even he can't ignore it, he *always* searches for a mundane explanation. When she perceives danger that he doesn't know about, he reassures her that she's safe. When she hears things he can't hear he calls them "hallucinations" and tries to find a way to stop them. Part of the problem is that River herself doesn't understand what her abilities are, but Simon is her beloved big brother, and her rescuer, and her doctor, all in one person, so she trusts his judgment. If Simon says the scary screaming is a hallucination, it must be, and _of course_ she wants the hallucinations to go away. So instead of trying to find ways to understand her perceptions and use them constructively, she hides from them, and takes whatever new drug Simon wants her to try.
Is Simon telling the "entire" truth? No, of course not; it's impossible to tell everything you know, but that doesn't make Simon a liar. No, Simon did not work at the Academy. Yes, Simon is River's older brother. Yes, Simon rescued River. *How* did he do that? He hasn't said; we'll get some of the details later. Simon doesn't like to brag, which is what he'd be doing if he told the full story of River's rescue. Doing so might also bring back all the bad memories River is hiding from, and he doesn't want that. He also can't talk about how much he gave up when he rescued River without making it extremely obvious just how privileged his early life was, which would be rude. It would also make River feel guilty, which is the opposite of what she deserves. So mostly Simon just listens.
The rationalization for the Alliance feelings about unlicensed salvage is, I believe, argued by "piracy prevention." Although someone below gave the example of the car stopped by the side of the road, then a cop coming up to you.
Amen to that ☕ i need at least one cup of coffee before being able to do anything in the morning (and i am a morning person, imagine!) and then i grad another two cups hahah! I film in the mornings, at like 9am 😂
Great reactions, I love your level of commentary. When you're done with _Firefly_ if you'd like to react to another Joss Whedon TV show, there's his masterpiece, _Buffy the Vampire Slayer_ if you haven't already seen it. It has a huge YT fandom. If you liked _The Gilmore Girls_ , there's another short series by Amy Sherman-Palladino called _Bunheads_ , only 18 episodes. If you liked Jane Austen's novel _Pride and Prejudice_ there's a wonderful present-day vlog version on YT called _The Lizzie Bennet Diaries_ ruclips.net/video/KisuGP2lcPs/видео.html where the Bennet sisters are graduate students looking for a job - and love. It won an Emmy.
Simon was looking at the helmet and talked about the helmet, but you were talking and didn't hear him. Simon was acting wierd because he's scared to death of getting into a space suit. You asked "What is cattle?". The man said "Cattle for slaughter" but you started talking and didn't hear the whole sentence. The Alliance caught pirates taking everything off a ship full of dead people. The Alliance is the government and the law. Should they let the pirates keep everything, especially when the pirates might have attacked the ship and killed everyone?
You have family, right? Imagine you died in a road accident and you had a lot of valuables with you in the car, would you prefer if a random passer-by took those valuables for themselves or would you prefer that the government collect those items and deliver them to your family or whoever you had made your heir in your will? In this universe, the "roads" are so many and so widespread that it might take a long time before the government gets around to collecting the things from your crash (it's not really high priority for them), which gives lots of opportunity for "vultures" to swoop in and get your valuables before that happens, but it's still illegal for them to do so.
There is a reason that you sometimes see River with no shoes, but I won't say any more until you get to the movie. Also, just one tiny spoiler: there are no aliens in this series. If there would have been more seasons, then maybe they would have gotten around to introducing some kind of aliens. Alas, we'll never know!

Simon was just phobic of being in a vacuum.
The rationalization for the Alliance feelings about unlicensed salvage is, I believe, argued by "piracy prevention."
Although someone below gave the example of the car stopped by the side of the road, then a cop coming up to you.
22:51 they are not going to get the goods back. They just don't want others to have it. Or pay them to be able to take the goods.
Never enough coffee. It's like gas for the engine; don't ever run out!
Amen to that ☕ i need at least one cup of coffee before being able to do anything in the morning (and i am a morning person, imagine!) and then i grad another two cups hahah! I film in the mornings, at like 9am 😂
@JustsMyles15 I may show up to work at 0600, but I try not to handle anything dangerous or expensive until caffeine o'clock.
kind smile!
(JM)” Is(River) she some kind of Medium?!…. Nope, I’d say River was more of a Small, practically a Size 0👗!😏
Hahaha gotta love a dad joke!! 😝
Running gag of the show is that people bullshit Simon and he buys it. Mal in first episode, Jayne here... would be more.
He really is such an easy mark 😉
Hahaha i know it's so funny !! that "Kaylee is dead" joke in the first episode was wild 😂
You have family, right? Imagine you died in a road accident and you had a lot of valuables with you in the car, would you prefer if a random passer-by took those valuables for themselves or would you prefer that the government collect those items and deliver them to your family or whoever you had made your heir in your will? In this universe, the "roads" are so many and so widespread that it might take a long time before the government gets around to collecting the things from your crash (it's not really high priority for them), which gives lots of opportunity for "vultures" to swoop in and get your valuables before that happens, but it's still illegal for them to do so.
le bétail qu'on prépare pour l'abattage
Oui!! Jai vraiment eu a regarder google translate, javais aucune idee ce que cattle voulais dire!! 😅
18:20 OK, that was more disturbing than the entire episode.
LOL what i said??
More like what you did.
😂😂
There is a reason that you sometimes see River with no shoes, but I won't say any more until you get to the movie. Also, just one tiny spoiler: there are no aliens in this series. If there would have been more seasons, then maybe they would have gotten around to introducing some kind of aliens. Alas, we'll never know!
There are no ghosts or aliens.
And i was very glad!! Hahah
You got weird and talked over Simon explaining he was queasy about the openness of space. You were trying to assign his look to Lust for Zoe
look at the pinned comment, i realised that Simon feels uneasy about space afterwards ;) i wasnt TRYING anything, to me, the camera seemed to zoom on Zoe's face so i got confused as to what he was actually looking at. I did say that it would make more sense that he was looking at the suit ! when i said "her husband is right there", that was just a joke 😅 and yes i might miss some of the dialogue whilst reacting; i try to pick everything that i missed in the edit, but sometimes i miss it in the editing as well 😶🌫
It might help to take notes during your reactions, instead of constantly stopping the video.
Nice hoodie sweatshirt, nice pumpkin! You are giving me a very comfy vibe.
