LOVE to ALL of you
I think one reason Mal is crankier at the start of Serenity is because both Book and Inara are off the ship. They were the two people on the ship who were not in his direct chain of command, and both were people he could talk things out with, both were trained counselors in different traditions.
With only people under his command left on the ship, he couldn't really open up to them about some things, he had to keep those things bottled up...
Also, he's under extreme financial stress, which affects him badly-- take a look at how he is when they're in similar straits in the pilot.
Zoe finally got her slinky dress.
I truly believe that River would have wiped out those Alliance dudes..... I soooo wanted to witness that battle with the light thrown in...... my imagination will have to do.......
Keep chasing your dream you're doing great! 👍
Oh man, they never see the Wash scene coming and it never gets old.
Killing off characters is like saying goodbye to the franchise and to the fans. Its like Joss Whedon making a statement that he will never revisit these characters again so he kills them off.
@@markcruz359 Or it could be that Alan Tudyk was not going to be available for the next planned movie, which he never got funding for (and to be fair, he knew he might not get to make).
@@CFWhitman That was indeed the reason. There were ideas for restarting the series or another movie. Both Alan Tudyk and Ron Glass (RIP) couldn't commit to it.
@@markcruz359 I'd say he had another reason. After Wash died you fear for the rest of them. If he can die just like that, no one is safe. And seeing them getting hurt one by one you start to fear none of them might make it out alive.
@@VerMaartethis is indeed NOT what happened. Actors not being able to commit to a sequel ≠ character death. I dont know why this keeps getting repeated. He was simply done with the franchise. He wasnt “uncommitted”, he made it abundantly clear he wasn’t coming back. Period. Hence his character death.
"Firefly" Season 1 & "Serenity" (2005) are proof of how badly Fox screwed up not supporting the series. A good time slot & advertising/promotion Fox would have had a long running hit on their hands.
Firefly was deliberately sabotaged. The wpman who took over for programming at Fox, after the guy who greenlit the show left, didn't like it and wanted to get rid of it asap.
..or even just showing the episodes in order. They gave Firefly the "Futurama Treatment."
Gail Berman.....
They never wanted it to succeed, it was far too expensive for them. So they sabotaged it. They wanted more cheap cereals to churn out.
@@Docktavion They wanted to Keep Joss working for them, and I think this was the way they hooked him while screwing him. They did the same thing with Morgan and Wong with Space: Above any Beyond. Change the day without notice, preempt it for everything, you name it. Morgan and Wong took it more personally though, and after not giving it a real shot, they were like "Fine, we are not gonna work on X-files anymore..."

@@michaelshort2388 what?! The movie was released almost twenty years ago. Too soon? That’s lamer than FDR’s legs. Or is that one also too soon?🤣
20 yrs....yet still too soon 😃 😀 😄 😁
It will never not be too soon.
I find it poetic that no one could kill Wash while he was in the air. They had to wait until he was on the ground to finally kill him.
Excellent observation.
... you know... headcanon accepted.
Also poetic that if a leaf is on the wind, that means it's already dead... 🥺
You should watch Dr Horrible sing alone blog.
Its very short and was made duribg the writers strike a few years back
You should find a few recognizable actors and for years people would cosplay some of the characters.
Also I don't think there would be any issues with RUclips, the entire move is posted here.
„A few years back“ as in „two frakking decades ago“ (around the same time the word „frakking“ was ingrained into my vocabulary…)
Talking about BSG: Have you realized that the relaunch is basically as old right now as the original series was when the relaunch came out? Face it, we‘re old. 😂
I love that you noticed, and mentioned Jayne strapping everybody else in. A lot of character development from a self serving mercenary to putting everyone else's safety before his own.
Losing Shepherd was a "Oh, yeah, I guess they needed to lose someone to raise the stakes" sort of death.
Wash dying was a master stroke, if he could die ANYONE could die, made the entire final sequence so much more intense, you legitimately feared for everyone.
One of the greatest movies ever made.
I had to quit my job/career of 30 years to care for my mother which i did for almost 7 years.. she died during the pandemic.. imagine trying to pick your career back up after that at over 60. No one wanted to hire a network engineer at my age when they could get a younger engineer that would be with them for 20 years.. so now I'm doing things I never thought I would for work.. I understand you. Just embrace what you do.. you are doing fine . we like it
I had to take care of my father for almost 11 years. Vietnam vet with severe ptsd and I was the only one who could handle him when he had an episode. And yes, it's VERY difficult to find work being older and after that much time. Best of luck.
I was one of the odd viewers who walked into a theatre in 2005 to watch "Serenity" with no effing idea what it was; I just thought the one trailer I saw looked very interesting and I had a free day and it happened to be playing. I got really sucked into it and ended up wanting more, so I did what I thought was the next step and bought the novelization. The novel opens on the prologue of the episode "Serenity" showing Mal and Zoe in the war. The novel had so much extra information in it that I was endlessly fascinated by that led me to realizing that the series "Firefly" existed, and I finally got the chance to sit down and watch it from start to finish a while later.
"Serenity" is a miracle of a movie -- it getting made at all will always be a testament to the power of a truly committed fandom. If the Browncoats hadn't amassed the way they did for as long as they did, convincing Universal that there would be a built-in audience to sell tickets to this movie, it would never have been made at all. While it wasn't a box office success, it did make back its budget and earned the studio a small profit, though it did very well in DVD sales, enough to justify a super deluxe box set I recommend. It won a Hugo Award, a Nebula Award, and a Prometheus Special Award, and a very committed fan who happened to be an astronaut brought his DVD sets of "Firefly" and "Serenity" to reside in the International Space Station to be available for entertainment for all the astronauts of varying nationalities who get to go up and work there.
I'm glad that you liked it. There are some fans who aren't as big on it because it is a lot "bigger" and more spectacle-heavy to be more of a movie than a TV show; it does have a different feel and loses some of the intimacy and familial vibes that made the show so special in favor of telling a larger story. While I do think some things were invented specifically for the movie, I do actually think that River's discovery of the advent of the Reavers was always going to be addressed in later seasons of the show to explain quite why the Alliance was *that* desperate to either get her back or kill her, and why the Blue Hands were so insistent on killing any of the Alliance personnel they came across who had actually spoken with her: she always clearly knew some secret they were very, very hellbent on her not sharing with anyone. Also, as I'm sure someone else already beat me to saying, Ron Glass tragically was already going through his cancer battle by the time "Serenity" was greenlit to begin filming and was only available for limited shooting time. Signs of his being physically unwell can be seen in the movie, and he sadly passed away shortly after the film's release. He always loved his character of Shepherd Book and he wanted to be involved in the project.
I was one of the viewers who agreed with Wash's death -- not that I was happy about it, you understand, but I got that it was done for stakes. In a battle as massive as the final fight in "Serenity", it would have been a bit too 'happy ever after' for Whedon's brand of storytelling if everyone had made it through. Book and Wash dying alongside Zoe, Simon, Mal, and Kaylee all getting pretty badly injured was honestly not the worst outcome. I still tear up a bit when I see it, though. Wash was a wonderful character.
Re: Ron Glass, he passed away in 2016, 11 years after this movie came out, so I wouldn't call that "shortly" afterward.
The original plan was for all of the regular cast members to survive. There was just one little problem with that plan. Joss Whedon had negotiated a deal that, if _Serenity_ resulted in enough new fans being created, there would be more movies. So the main cast were asked to sign contracts that said they would be available for as many as three movies. Ron Glass and Alan Tudyk had previous commitments that kept them from being able to sign for more than one movie. So, in preparation for those two potential movies, it was necessary to provide a plot reason that would explain their absence. The easiest way to do that was to kill off the Shepherd and Wash.
Whedon made the best use possible of their deaths - they propelled the plot forward, added tension, and removed the belief that the crew of Serenity had plot immunity and couldn't be killed off - but he only did it because his hand had been forced.
And then the existing fan base was offered advance access to tickets for _Serenity,_ and, predictably, bought up most of them, so the movie DIDN'T result in a major increase in the fan base and the extra movies were never made. So we lost Wash and the Shepherd for nothing.
Little Easter Egg. The one Reaver we see close up that River punches is Neil Patrick Harris, who Joss had in mind for the role of the doctor, but scedhule issues prevented. Joss asked him if he wanted a small role in Serenity as compensation, and Neil was all for it.
Oh my god I totally see that now! I was wondering why they lingered on him for so long and now it makes sense. I can't believe I've never heard about this before.

22:39 It's interesting that this phrase, with which Simon "switch off" River is subtitled as "speaking Chinese", but in fact it's Russian: "Это курам на смех!", which literally means "That's for hens to laugh at!". It's a Russian idiom meaning "This is ridiculous!"

Yes, thank you, it always bothers me.
Wash dies, Book dies, Mr. Universe dies, Zoe takes a sword to the back, Jayne gets an arrow through the leg, Kaylee gets injured somehow, Simon gets shot, Inara gets beat up a bit, Mal gets all kinds of beaten up and River.... swallows a bug.
Did you shed a tear at Mr. Universe? I feel bad that his love bot will probably get lonely because the Serenity crew just leaves and the Alliance probably just did something with his body. Leaving her alone on a whole planet that no one wants to go to.
I think my favorite line of the entire series and movie is, “Mal. Guy killed me Mal. He killed me with a sword. How weird is that?” What a genius scene. Mr. Universe knew he was dead and couldn’t move to make a note or recording, so he used his lovebot, Elinor, to relay the message.

When the Operative said "you're not a Reaver, Mal," that gave Mal the idea of how to get through Reaver territory.
I can understand how COVID affected your income. My wife is a make-up artist in the video and film industry. Work just absolutely dried up and she got very panicky. Things are better now for her. As for health I understand that as well. I had to retire last June after being in education for 30 years because of my health. I just couldn't be sick all the time and every week I would miss at least one day. I now have what I call the "Freedom to be Sick." It's so stressful to feel like you're letting others down. I hope you understand that no matter what you are capable of that you have value and need to not be too hard on yourself. On a brighter note, there is a TV series that was very odd and ahead of its time back in the 1990s. It was called "Twin Peaks", and it would be terrific if someone could react to it, and I can't think of anyone better than you. I'm also really glad you got to see Serenity.
Twin Peaks was definitely a good show. Unfortunately, the movie that followed was terrible. I know they did a follow-up series eventually, but I was unable to watch it and didn't hear much acclaim for it.
I saw the movie before I ever saw the show. It worked perfectly well. Some movies based on TV shows get very clunky trying to bring new viewers up to speed without boring the existing fan base, but this one does everything right. (I immediately went back and watched the show, obviously.)
Oh, and don't apologize for long intros -- I skip a lot of reactors' intros, but I never skip yours. 🙂
I have no small amount of hate for the network for mistreating Serenity the way they did, it could have been such a fantastic franchise. And since then there have been so many great shows fked up for similar reasons by incompetent greedy idiots.
I enjoyed watching your reaction video. Thanks for sharing
There's an anecdote that has long floated around Firefly fandom that one woman at a Serenity showing began to weep very audibly after Shepherd's death, and only got more agitated as the movie continued, until the shock of Wash's death sent her spiraling so hard that she had to be carried/escorted out of the theater. Many Browncoats I've spoken to love this movie for existing, and are proud that their persistent campaign to save the show helped make it happen...and hate it for being well and truly the end of their favorite universe.
Similar things must have happened at those. I was lucky to see one with a Q&A afterwards (Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau) and someone behind me was not taking it well either, sobbing and being very vocal about hating Whedon and how he makes us love characters just to kill them off. Not sure if it was her or someone near her seat that later asked him why he hates happy couples. The answer was something like "I don't hate them, they just don't make for interesting story telling".
@@TheTriencoI was an anti-piracy guard at the advanced screening in Toronto, there to watch the audience and ensure no bootleg video was being taken. So, I stood at the base of the screen and stared at the audience.
I’ll never forget (a) how much they were enjoying themselves until (b) the deaths happened. Their shocked and dismayed (and occasionally angry) faces are forever seared into my memory.
And we did have at least one woman who was visibly distraught. I had to go do the VIP escort (Sean Maher), so I lost track of her, but she was devastated.
That whole experience is what made me want to watch Firefly, and I was not disappointed.

@@AngeloBarovierSD I would almost expect similar things at many or even most screenings. Back then we still had hope it might turn into a franchise and we get more movies, so seeing not one, but two fan favorite characters killed off hit even harder. The emotional whip lash from "YES, Firefly is back" to "no.. NO.. you didn't just do that" was a bit intense. Like giving a kid their favorite toy back, but first breaking it in front of them.

Trivia: The scene at the end with a close-up of a screaming reaver that River punches is played by Neil Patrick Harris.
If you're wondering about the deaths of Wash and Book it's because the actors couldn't commit to future movies.
According to The Firefly and Serenity Database under Jubal Early, the bounty hunter was to be the main antagonist in the movie but the actor was unavailable.
The actors are willing to comeback to do more at least some, may Ron Glass rest in peace, but with Disney currently in control and having problems we'll have to wait and see.
It pisses me off. Alan Tudyk is a very busy actor. So, instead of trying to fit a sequel into his schedule, when there was no guarantee one would even happen, killing him off is petty.
So sad to lose Shep and Wash but that did make it very emotional so good story telling.
When they started the show, they had expected to have at least 4 or 5 seasons or more to tell the over all story - the movie tries to do that whole arc in one condensed movie - that's why it is so much harsher: no room for things to smooth it out.
No, no - in the episode "Ariel", River didn't GO ON the mission precisely.....she sort of WAS the mission. The mission was to smuggle River into the hospital so that Simon could use the advanced diagnostic equipment there to get a better idea of what had been done to her.
Can't wait for the short film to release!!!
"Serenity" takes place after "Firefly," but it also tries to recap the series for newbies. I think Whedon does an impressive job of it -- not "altering" the characters, exactly, but summing up their relationships over the previous several episodes of the series (Mal and Dr. Tamm have been sparring since the beginning, with Mal taking at least *two* cheap shots, decking the doctor for no reason; "Serenity" just gives Simon a chance to *finally* punch back).
[Also, be well. Sorry to hear about your illness. Live long and prosper, Amanda!]
It is a little ambitious but there is obviously a time gap between the show and movie. They were hoping to pick up as a tv series again or a series of movies.
It's about two months later as he says 8 months on the ship. There is a difference between recapping and completely rewriting history. It was unnecessary. Simon didn't rescue River himself. He paid people.
@@johncampbell756 it's possible that between the show and movie, River was captured and Simon rescues her himself the second time. That could be what we're seeing in the beginning 🤔
@johncampbell756 The simplest explanation for the difference between Simon's explanation in the pilot and what we see at the start of the movie is that Simon lied to the crew about his level of involvement. When he told them the story about how he got her out they were strangers. He had no reason to be completely honest with them and if he thought "I paid people to get her out" is going to go down better than "I paid people to get me in" then why not stretch the truth a little?
@wendyheatherwood Except they doesn't seem to fit with River being in the box and their conversation when she wakes up. I get why the scene was rewritten. I just don't like it.
So hard to say farewell to these characters. I sure miss them. The series and film are a masterclass in visual storytelling. Amanda, I just discovered (and subscribed) to your channel, loved your reaction. You're in my prayers, get better soon!
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
Whedon succeeded if you thought this was going to be another Rogue One. With the death of Shepard and then Wash, Whedon wanted the audience to think this was going to have a "The Wild Bunch" ending. The movie basically was to wrap up River's arc. Whedon had intended for THIS story to be the season 1 or perhaps season 2 finally. Remember at the time 23-26 episodes was the norm for a season and we only got 13. Further seasons would have had other arcs.
Shepard Book's arc is told in the graphic novel A Shepard's Tale. I won't spoil it.
Inara's arc was to answer the question, why is she on the ship? Whedon had planned her to have a terminal illness. And it was speculated that to save her Mal would challenge the Alliance again, perhaps another hospital heist to get the things necessary for Simon to save Inara's life. Unfortunately, we'll never know.
Jayne and Zoe would have had their stories told as well. So, there was easily 5+ seasons of stories to tell.
Also, the Operative was a truly tragic character. He truly believed in working towards making things better for everyone, so much that he was willing to sacrifice his soul doing any dirty work that may be necessary to achieve it, as is often needed.
It's not his fault he was used and betrayed by the people he believed in.
Like he said, he's a monster, but at least he wanted to be a monster for the right reasons, and that was stolen from him.
Tragic indeed. It ended with him loosing his faith. "There is nothing left to see". All he was, all that he believed was gone and proved false. Every horrible act he had done was laid bare with out the slightest justification. Very sad.
Until the comic came out, I really thought that the Operative's arc in this was very similar to Shepard Book's backstory.
That's why I think: "There are a lot of innocent people being killed in the air right now."
with Mal responding "You have no idea how true that is"
is one of the most profound lines in the movie.
@@Starsaber222 I thought it said implicitly but with certainly that Shephard had been an operative too.
@@rwiersemaI also read that as a reference to Pax in the atmosphere
From what I heard, the reason Wash and Book were killed off is because they couldn't commit to come back for a show, which is the whole reason they made the movie in the first place ... Alan Tudyk had other obligations, and I think Ron Glass was sick
When I seen Serenity i stop to watch so fast. Definitely I of my favorite movies of all time.
They were supposed to make another movie but the director got in trouble. I haven't heard anything since. They Definitely need to make more... Amazing Reactions 👏 🙀 😮 😲
Browncoat from when Firefly was on air and got to see an early screening of SERENITY. Bittersweet that the 'verse is both still being enjoyed but that we didn't get anything else (on screen). There are Dark Horse comics, but it's a testament that such good works are still finding new fans. Stay shiny!
The one issue with this movie is that the TV show was only 1 season. Things weren't allowed to develop as they should have to make everything make as much sense as it should have. They did a phenomenal job with this given that limitation. One example is River and her abilities.
There are Firefly books that go into more detail about things. One story called "Generations" they find a man trapped in an Alliance secret prison, but they don't know that it is, and let him out. He's like River in that they did the same things to him they did to River only he fully embraced his abilities and was so terrifying it made River become afraid of giving in to her combat/assassin side in fear she'll become like him, which is why she's constantly fighting with herself. It isn't until Simon get's shot that's willingly able to use her skills out of love for her brother instead of in fear for herself. If they could have had a season 2 and had an episode about all that why River does little to nothing would have made a lot more sense.
Part of the reason this was more serious than the show, is the show was supposed to be a "slow burn" where making some of the themes the series laid down the threads of stories were meant to last at least a season, or longer. This movie was... not. It was trying to wrap everything up and be done in one movie.
So glad I got to go on this trip with you.
During the pandemic, I revisited the series and film all within 4days. It REALLY hit harder that way somehow, having the story laid out so quickly. That short of a time really sets it in as a major part of my thoughts.
Though I would have liked more of this, I am glad to have it wrapped up. That I have a single season and film to contain the story, rather than getting season after season with various episodes perhaps not living up or the overall quality of the series fading (like many shows seem to after 4 seasons or so).
Based on the argument between Mal and Simon after the bar fight, it's been roughly 8 months since the start of the pilot, Zoe got the "Slinky dress" mentioned in the episode "Shindig" that Wash wanted to buy her, but he never got to see it! If you want to watch a fun show with a ton of easter eggs to this show, watch "Castle", another Nathan Fillion show
There's a graphic novel that explains Shephard Books history. It delves into why he became a Shephard and why he refused to talk about his past.
I know this was recorded ages ago, but I hope your health continues to improve and that your film either went well or is going well. It's been a very fun series of reactions, thank you for making them available on YT.
The courage of your struggle in going forward even if it's just little steps though illness and self doubt is amazing. I wish you the best in your short film endeavor.
The personality change was to show that they're more desperate than before.
Also, I'm dealing with a long-term disabling condition myself, so I know something of how difficult it can be.
Hang in there.
The most interesting aspect is that Simon knew all of these things about River, before he and River boarded Serenity the first episode, things he said he didn't until Ariel episode.
This was the wrap for the series. The plan was to make more movies, but two main characters already had other commitments.... so they were written out. But - as we all tragically know, due to criminal planning and treatment, the movies was considered a flop - and the sequels were cancelled. Heart-breaking.
Mal thinking he could take out The Operative will never not being funny to me
Shepherd Book and Hoban "Wash" Washburn had to die because there was a chance of making more sequels, but Ron Glass had serious health issues and couldn't make anymore, and Alan Tudyk had commitments to do other shows. Rather than to replace the characters with other actors, it was decided to write them out.
River is not just trained as an assassin. She is a psychic assassin, which means she knows what her opponents will do as soon as they do.
Also, she had never willingly engaged her full abilities before. She didn’t know (herself) how to “turn on” the warrior mode.
Niska’s goons: Fractured River
The oaty bar: Automaton River
Sneaking in Serenity: Fractured River
Miranda holovid: River made whole
Battling the Reavers: Complete River
She had never consciously faced overwhelming odds and cut loose before. And until that final backlit Buffyesque victory shot, unfractured Warrior-River had never been battle tested.
I like where we left things but it would have been interesting to see the new River in further adventures!
The Pax they released on Miranada killed all but thirty thousand individuals, who were all psychotic and insane. Imagine an entire planets worth of resources left in the hands of a large towns worth of literal madmen. That's how the Reavers just appeared one day and started eating people, with ships and guns, and why they are so powerful by this point in the story. They were left to fester because acknowledging their existence would expose the fact that the Parliament had created an army of cannibal monsters that had been eating people for years.
also, the existence of the Reavers kept people from finding or going to the planet Miranda
"Eta Koorum Na Smech" (этo курам на смех) - loosely "a chicken would laugh at it" - is Russian, not Chinese. It's a good safe phrase because it's unlikely to be used in general conversation.
Thanks for the translation. I've always wondered if it was a made-up phrase or an actual language.

It's a great way to wrap up the series.
I have no idea how many times I’ve seen this movie. It’s like…. Home?
And as another person whose career has been severely impacted by my health, I’m with ya. All aside, the humanity you exhibit in your reactions is what keeps people coming back and subscribing.
“He didn’t lie down…they never lie down…” - first foreshadowing of the genesis of the Reavers, an insight by River expressed in her usual puzzling but predictive prose. Great writing !
Thank you Kazzy for being willing to share your story with your RUclips friends, as well as Patreon. I think I speak for all of us in saying we wish you a full recovery and success in your film endeavors.
A lot of people remark on the darker dynamic in the movie vs. the show - especially among the crew. Here's my take: Joss Wedon had a five season arc sketched out for Firefly. We only got part of one season. Season One introduces the characters and lays out the baseline, the golden age if you will. In later seasons I believe Wedon would have mixed things up, introduced more conflict etc... to challenge and test the characters. We already knew that Inara would be leaving the ship. I suspect we would have gotten a _Serenity_ that was a much less happy place than we had in Season One - much like what we see in the movie, which takes place several months after we last saw our crew. I don't know where _Firefly_ was going to go in Season 2-5, but I suspect some of it would have been rather rough sledding, causing us to look back on Season One as the halcyon days.
One 'benefit' of only getting one season is what we never really had to see our happy Firefly family torn up, as I suspect it would have if the show had gotten its full run.
One of the best villains ever.
"Stories have unbelievable power: They can shape minds and conquer hearts..."
The character of Mal, and the show in general, was always intended to be dark - like it was in the pilot. Fox wanted the show to be lighter, so they shelved the pilot and "The Train Job" was written as a 2.0 pilot, with the lighter tone required. So the deeply darker tone of "Serenity" was Whedon getting back to his original vision.
Wash was killed off because Alan Tudyk wasn't going to be available for any potential new shows/movies in the foreseeable future. But it also allowed Whedon to really mess with the audience because, after Wash's and Book's deaths, it really looked like they were all going to die (except maybe Jayne). Mal was getting pummeled by the operative, Zoe was sliced open, Kaylee was poisoned, Simon was shot and River had been taken by the Reavers...
The deaths of some of the characters was what kept viewers on the edge of their toes whenever others got hurt. Nobody was safe.
Great movie.
Operative: 'You can't make me angry.'
Inara: 'Just spend an hour with him.'
LOL I love Inara.
Operative: 'The Alliance isn't some Evil Empire.'
Umm only evil empires would create people like River, idiot. People with actual good intentions don't need to create high assassins out of children. If they need an assassin they just hire them.
I can totally relate back in 2020 i suffered from a mesenteric veins thrombosis that me in the hospital for 6 months and a three year "recovery" it took a mountain of effort and PT to come back from being bedridden to goingoing to a wheelchair, to a walker spending all my energy just going from the bedroom to the bathroom and back, (and some days i couldn't make it back without help) to learning to walk again and building back my muscles that had atrophied on the hospital.
Before this hit i consodered anything within 5 miles to be "Walking distance" i went to film school to make movies, i write stories that i want to produce to this day! But, i hold out hope knowing that it WILL come to pass some day. *"NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!"* and, as one Browncoat to another, Always, *"Aim To Misbehave"*
Firefly/Serenity is never over. Lots of Browncoats have annual viewings from beginning to end. Make it a tradition. By killing Shepherd Book and Wash, two of the more popular characters, Joss Whedon raised the stakes showing no character was safe. In actuality, Ron Glass (Book) was in serious pain with a back injury and Alan Tudyk (Wash) had other obligations and couldn't commit in case Whedon could bring the series back as he hoped the movie might make possible. So they both got killed off instead. Thank you for the excellent review, fellow Browncoat.
Sending healing thoughts your way. I studied chronic pain for a number of years, so know a fair amount about people coping with chronic illness or disorder. I admire you making what you can of it. I also do some writing, so get the passion of creative endeavors. Thank you for sharing your story.
Ho-lee-fuq! I forgot that you hadn't watched this yet!
Such a perfect ending to a fantastic series. They really tied up a lot and left us wanting more.
Just realized the "Speaking Chinese" in the subs when Simon says the trigger is wrong. He says "that is for the chickens to laugh" in very bad Russian.
Like what you do, got a sub from me. Nothing fake with your comments. Hope you get better.
My favorite call back...
Out of Gas:
Jayne -- "We'd have been back 1st, but there's something wrong with Inara's shuttle. She's done something to it, Mal. It smells funny."
Inara -- "I told you. That's incense."
Jayne -- "So you say."
Serenity (film):
Inara -- "And that's not incense."

River's end scene is straight out of a Frazzetta painting.
Jewel Staite, (Kaylee) also played the doctor in later seasons of Stargate Atlantis.
The actors have all said they would come back to pick up the series again. Disney (among others) has shown an interest in picking up and making more of the series, but so far, there's been alot of roadblocks, so it is still up in the air. But there is a large fanbase (Browncoats) that would LOVE to see it return.
Mal: I wish like hell you was elsewhere.
Kazzy: I mean, it's already like they're a married couple.
LOL
Let's Gooo!
Me - Okay I am ready this time.
Watches Book and Wash die again
Me - WHEDOOOON
You should watch Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds. The humor will be a nice break and it is as fun as R. R. can make it.
The best villains believe they are doing good, or at least, the greater good at whatever cost.
You have to respect the agent's thoroughness and relentlessness. Nothing or anyone will stop him. He is nothing, other than the mission.
In fact, he says, he didn't expect to see an end, being only a tool to make it so.
All the best.
Cheers.
The lore is that, financially, things have gotten a lot more desperate. The pressure is on and Mal is on the edge of being broke.
How can I be first? We're under a tornado warning. :)
47:56 That’s Neil Patrick Harris. For real! 😁
I mentioned once previously about how rewarding it is as a longtime fan of the show, to see how much you embraced it and the characters (including the ship). The roller coaster of your emotions (even in just the first few minutes, but especially at the deaths of Book and Wash, really shows the depth at which Firefly and Serenity have gotten into you.
Yeah, it would have been great if it had kept going, but (as you know), stuff happened. I don’t think it could be resurrected, not with the same quality it would deserve. As it is, we all have a practically perfect half season and feature film, and it shouldn’t be diminished with a less-than-perfect continuation.
Besides, with only 14 episodes and a movie, it’s just easier to occasionally binge-watch the whole thing! 😁
Oh, and thanks for what you do! I’m looking forward to seeing your future endeavors!
This is not like rogue one. Rogue one wishes it was like this movie.
Although in retrospect there is a group, that needs to get a thing the government doesn't want exposed and broadcast it to the people. Do in a general sense they are loosely related.
The fact that Allen Tudyk is in both is their only real connection.
"She's still there. I thought she (Inara) left". Well at that point she didn't even have a way to leave. Serenity was grounded/inoperative. Only later when Mal asks does she make the choice to stay.
Ron Glass (Shepard) was already fighting cancer at this time,so he could only make a brief appearance in the film. He passed away shortly after sadly.
By “shortly after,” you mean 11 or 12 years. Quite a while, actually.
He actually died eleven years after Serenity, in 2016, working up until 2014.
@@adp806
Well, to me eleven years is just a fart in the wind. At my age.
@@angelohernandez6060 Ron Glass has 14 acting to his credit after Serenity. Not like he was on Death’s door during filming & just dropped dead after as you made it seem.
Edit: It’s also “Shepherd.”

Ok, so your idea of a short time differs from my interpretation of it. Peoples idea of timespans differ. But you don't have to be a buthole about it.
Mal has one thing that The Operative does not: he does not know how to quit, even when all is lost (which is why he's still fighting that war in his heart).
Glad no one spoiled, no none expected the losses suffered. The shock and disbelief in the theater...
Thank you for the intro/update, All the best to you.
They wanted to keep the door open for more firefly movies, but Alan Tudyk and Ron Glass could not commit, so thats their fate, rather than just having them disappear between installations.
The timing of Wash is pretty smart, as it makes the whole audience fear that noone is safe in the final act.
Congrats, Kazzy. We all had to go through this, and now you are officially one of us. Despite all our difference, we are all Browncoats.
You can't take the sky from us.
If we look at this as the a condensed version of what was planned for the second half of the first season and the finale, then it's in line with Whedon's usual plan. With Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there were more light hearted episodes in the first half of the season. But as they got closer to the end of the season, things got darker and more serious.
I've always read from commenters that this was the arc for the 2nd season.
Those alliance soldiers didn't know they were about to die to River and end there.
They could animate the graphic novels and get the cast to do the voices.
Give you props for knowing Chiwetel Ejiofor’s name.
I am so glad that you enjoyed the movie!!!!
Its pronounced ElfLord Ouigiboard
Congrats! Happy to hear about the gig.
