It's great seeing this compilation of Jake's career. Definitely one of the best guitar players / songwriters of our generation. His solos always fit the songs perfectly. He could be slow and tasteful or rip. Badlands was an incredible band. I saw them several times and got to meet Jake at the Troubodour after their Christmas (Dec 23rd) concert. Talked with him for 20 minutes. At the end of the night he came over and said good-night. Blew me away. We left about 5 minutes later and ran into Jake and his roadie / friend on the way to my car. We chatted some more. Talked about a show I saw him at in NY. Then I moved back to NY to go to college. Jake had formed a new band called Wicked Alliance. Got to see them in a small bar. Planted myself in front of Jake to watch the master at work. In the middle of the set he saw and recognized me. Mouthed "what are you doing here?" After the show, he came over to me and we started talking. First thing he asked was about our meeting in California and what I was doing in NY. Hard to imagine I made that big of an impression on Jake. It definitely made me a happy young man. I listen to all of the music written by Jake. Other influences were Randy, Warren, George, SRV and Kirk. Jake definitely had the biggest impact on my own playing (just for fun) and composing.
The guy's recorded works are right up there with anyone on a playing level and with regards to writing/composition. Incredible. Just Badlands alone...amazing.
Hands down, Jake is one of my all time favorites… not only for his soloing, but for his unique rhythms. The chords he chose were fucking fantastic… great player, very overlooked.
He came out of that group of “legendary LA Strip players” from the late ‘70s = Eddie Van Halen Randy Rhoads George Lynch Jake E Lee Warren DeMartini …and a couple others. Was an extraordinary era ❤

Jake's solo and lead out on Bark at the Moon is still one of my favourite guitar solos ever. If he had managed to find a band that did him justice and stick with them, he could have been a legend. Badlands should have been a supergroup, but they fell apart too soon and he never seemed to recover from that, just disappeared. Maybe he upset the wrong people and was an outcast from the hierarchy of the scene, but trying to find his music online these days is a struggle.
Badlands should have been a supergroup, but they fell apart too soon and he never seemed to recover from that..... I agree with that Statement Philip, Glad you liked the video, I have a new one coming late today.
I wouldn't say they "fell apart" as much as I would say "shut down" . Not trying to resurrect any past darkness of the band ,but after Ray's diagnosis AND his antics away from the band, there really wasn't a choice. I do agree that he never seemed to recover from it, though.
I'm glad Jake seems to be getting his flowers, even if it's long overdue. Lots of people starting to realise how amazing he is. Bark at the Moon has some of the best riffs ever put together.
Jake is a ringer. And you can't beat a ringer. That's the way he sets himself up. He proved that when he formed Badlands and went out and got the best singer in the world. And he kept it blues simple . You can't lose when you use the blues. Cinderella. Great white. Lynch mob with Oni Logan. Fastway. Whitesnake. 🙏
I wasn't particularly into hair metal bands like cinderella, great white, poison and even GnR because I was a thrasher. I now realize these bands had great SKILL, much more than what todays "toy rock and metal" bands have to give
Damn what a Great list. The saddest part of that list is Jack Russell. What an Awesome Awesome voice Jack had to just let it all go to shit. I met and really enjoyed talking with Jeff LeBar at Nashville concerts. He was such a nice, down to earth guy. I LOVED Cinderella concerts. What a shame. Terrible loss.
Jake's work in Badlands had possibly the largest influence on my own playing and writing out of almost anyone else. Not to mention his work with Ozzy. In his prime, I think he was untouchable. Extremely unique and innovative, with a huge dose of charisma and stage presence. Excellent picking technique and very identifiable. The way he would fearlessly bend that neck to get whammy effects was amazing, often it was downright frightening! I always expected to see that neck snap clean off, he would bend it so much!
I also reverse the bridge pickup angle on Fender style Telecasters away from the treble side of the bridge which gives the effect of playing the guitar in an upside down orientation as if Paul McCartney or Jimi Hendrix often played the right handed instruments left-handed
Jake e lee is always respectful to the source. He has made Randy's music his own without ever missing the phrasing or licks we expect. Look for a mistake in any of his live work, a true reminder how important practice is with your stage vibe. Plus, I guess some guys just have it. A true inspiration and I find his playing still full of gems.
He certainly is part of the most talented and amazing to see and hear. Very creative musician I love his playing!!! This is a cool tribute to him thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Ozzy's material from Blizzard through No More Tears is his classic solo era. He was never the same after his first retirement stint. Those first 6 albums with 3 guitarists all contributing two each brought something new two the table. While I have the Rhoads material as clearly my favorite, I like what Jake did on BATM/TUS and Zakk on NRFTW/NMT. Even though I have Randy as my clear number one, the song Bark at the Moon and its solo stacks up against anything off the first two albums with Rhoads. I liked Zakk before the Viking Biker look, and there is some phenomenal guitar work on the two records, but nothing stacked up to Bark at the Moon imo. Jake and Daisley laid down some magic with that one.
Wow ! You Nailed it on All points, especially how you and I prefer earlier Zakk. I thought Zakk was just Phenomenal during No Rest For the Wicked and No More Tears. I just Totally lost all interest once he reached the whole SDMF / BLS biker/lumberjack/viking wannabe bullshit. What the hell is his deal with constantly spitting up in the air above Himself ? He became Repulsive, and honestly never sounded as good again. He seems to be one Messed up dude. Jake E Lee is just Awesome ! Absolute magical guitar Wizard. Ozzy says he hated that period, when ironically, the Jake period is my Favorite Ozzy period. I LOVED the Ultimate Sin tour. Years later I would see whatever tour where Ozzy had Joe Holmes on guitar, and I hated it.
@@shaunclifton5281 I think Holmes was part of the Ozzmosis tour in 96/97. I get what you mean with Zakk and his spitting. There's a pro shot show from 89' in Philly where Zakk is doing the spitting in the air thing like he's trying to catch it again. So he's done that from the beginning. It is kinda sick but looks even worse when he looks like a dirty biker guy. I never liked Sharon but there's one thing that I found myself agreeing with her on and that's when she made the statement about Zakk turning Ozzys music into a BLS project, and I was hearing the same thing. After Ozzmosis, Ozzys music started to have these muddy uninspired guitar riffs and the production left a lot to be desired. It sounded like leftover mediocre riffs Zakk didn't use for BLS. I've always said that Ozzy solo sounded the best when he was more hard rock and less metal. Those bright sounding uplifting guitar parts Rhoads and Jake put to tape was just a better fit for him. Stuff like I Don't Know, Flying High Again, BATM, Shot In The Dark etc..just sounded better to my ears. I also agree with you that Zakk sounded great on NRFTW. That's one of my favorite Ozzy albums. Even NMT had some outstanding material looking back and still had Ozzy sounding like rock n roll. He only sounded good doing the darker doom stuff when he was with Sabbath, and I personally think the best Sabbath albums are Vol-4,SBS,Sabotage, where they started to get more progressive and away from the simple doom sound from their first 3.
Your comment pretty much sums up my thoughts also .I too think Ozzys best all time work is those first two records with Randy Rhoads .this was music that Randy had to come up with from a genre and style he was completely new to .Quiet Riot from the 70s was a pop group that's flamboyance was created in the honor of David Bowie and Mic Ronson so when Randy joined Ozzy he was out of his element in every way finding himself on another Continent having to create Heavy Metal music something he had never liked let alone had any experience with and was probably thinking he was in way over his head when he first sat down with Ozzy and asked "what do you want me to write" probably not having a clue and when Ozzy replied "just be yourself" that was the 3 best words Ozzy could have ever said to Randy cause it let him know that this new bands music was not gonna be like Black Sabbath's and let him draw from his educational perspective to write something completely new and unique .which is exactly what Ozzy wanted .after touring with Van Halen while in Sabbath he wanted to be in more of a Rock guitar oriented band simular to VH rather than the gloom and doom devil type like Sabbath was .and the result of this was what came out on the Blizzard an Diary recordings .this is wat made those 2 records stand out and caught the attention of the Rock fans around the world .and Lee's entry into Ozzys band was different in he was already playing music from that genre and really nailed it with Bark of the Moon .his playing and music was more explosive and hard rock driven than the first two albums and having to fill Rhoads shoes was something that couldn't have been easy by any stretch of the imagination .but he owned it and allowed Ozzy to carry on instead of fading away after Randy's death that could have very well happened had he not got the right guy .and Zach kept it going with his first 2 records. Like you after this Ozzys music wasn't quite the same Ozzy was having personal and health issues .he didn't have Bobs influence and lyrics anymore which was a HUGE part of Ozzy earlier success .Zach was wanting to do his own thing and Ozzy had a revolving door of musicians from this point on and never had anyone to create something special and magical anymore .
@@johnhagan582 Spot on I think. Randy was an absolutely brilliant composer and still moves me to this very day. Lee was certainly more explosive style-wise and had better stage presence. He really did a great job keeping Ozzy's act together for a while and did an awesome job with Randy's material. As an album, BATM is quite a distant third for me - with the title song the sole exception. And Shot in the Dark was magnificent. But his writing paled to what Randy could create. That said, onstage Jake was brilliant. I actually think most of Lee's solo's were better improvised on stage, unlike Randy who played best after carefully composing and phrasing his solos, like Mr. Crowley. Interesting contrast. But Randy was far better at creating unique, out of the box melodies and fills... like in I Don't Know... you never expect what comes next but when it does it's absolute genius. And truly masterful, epic compositions like the way Diary builds to a dramatic climax. Randy's passion and fire were magical. I rarely felt that way with Jake's studio playing. There are a few moments when he hit it, but then slides into some fast pentatonic thing in a major key and just noodles off. But onstage, it's another story altogether. Never saw such a natural in front of a crowd! Anyway... let's not forget about Bob Daisley. He was the glue and catalyst for much of the early music. Thank God he wrote all the lyrics... LOL As far as chops are concerned, I always ponder what Randy might have become with another decade to develop once the genre had taken off. And he'd gone back to studying Classical for a while. He'd surely have been influenced by Vai, Satch, Yngwie, Freidman, Gilbert, etc... I could easily have seen him on the G3 tour and collaborating with everyone to create unexpected, brilliant and moving music. It would have been glorious...
@@Mike-eq4ky See I saw all 3 players (Rhoads .Lee. Whilde) .and IMO Rhoads had the greatest stage presence of anyone ever with maybe the exceptions of Hendrix and Page .and the live solo he did on Mr Crowley at the After Hours Promo was the Greatest Heavy Metal Guitar solo in history .the feeling he put into that eyes closed the entire time was unbelievable .but that's just my take brother .thanks for the reply though forsure
A very humble man who thinks he's nobody but if there was such a place as a Guitar Temple, his statue would be no smaller than Eddie's or even Randy's.
That's why he is here at our Guitar Temple, we will keep the spotlight on the true greats, he is one guy anyone could talk to, a very down to earth guy that's true, Thank you for viewing Sir
Jake E Lee is unbelievable. Not only his solos, they were always perfect for the song but his use of unique chords, inverted chords, triads etc, showed his knowledge of the instrument. His song writing is top notch and his left hand technique is almost impossible to replicate. He is one of the best to ever do it. He has been and always will be one of my top 5 guitarist of all time. Randy, Jake, Zakk, Slash and John Sykes are my top 5.
Interesting list! Personally, I would not include Slash and I actually need to listen to John Sykes, but I'm going to add Vai, Satch, Yngwie, Gilbert, and Friedman. And of course we can't forget Eddie... Just for ONE day I'd like to be able to play like any of them... What a day that would be!
Out of all the players to come out of the 80’s Hard Rock/Metal era Jake was no doubt in my mind the most advanced, original, and explosive of them all. It’s an absolute shame he did not get the writing credits he deserved for “ Bark at the Moon”.
Loved him since ‘83….the cool chirp sound he gets with some picked notes , his wide vibrato, many tricks and techniques, and of course songwriting and great stage moves…..one of the best
You are not alone Sir, he is a very loved guitarist, I guess he is a pretty good guy also I understand, But yes indeed he has a HUGE Following, thank you ever so kindly for viewing.
By far the most underrated and forgotten. Dude was really on another level. I didn't "discover" him until a few years ago because nobody ever talked about him. His work on those Ozzy albums only reaffirms this the more you break it down.
Jake is an amazing musician with a very unique style. His body of work speaks for itself. Very under rated considering he is every bit as good as Randy was.
Respect your opinion but not in the same class as Randy in mine. Just listen to isolated tracks. Rhoades is on a different level with crisper, cleaner, and more technically advanced. Writing composition we could argue but Jake was given zero credit. Jake E. Is still great though
I was just a kid on the Badlands last UK tour, but I was at the Newcastle Riverside and met the whole band. They were surprisingly chill, no obvious tension. I was aware of the fall out and the kerrang story, but they invited us all into the venue to hangout. I was at the front for the show directly in front of Jake and his electric fan, blowing cool air into his hair! The band were fucking amazing. The energy and power was, to date, unsurpassed!
Invariably, Jake E Lee is awesome, & certainly did his thing live with Ozzy. & Yet Jake had a impossibly tall order to fill with Randy’s shoes as a songwriter, after Randy put the all time high water mark up at the pinnacle peak of Heavy Metal, it’s inarguably a one sided affair. In comparison, Jake on his 2 albums with Ozzy really put up only one single particularly notable Ozzy hit, with his song Bark at the Moon & then played on Phil Soussan’s hit Ozzy song Shot in the Dark, & the rest are all duds. While damn near every single song Randy wrote on his 2 albums with Ozzy went far beyond particularly notable, while music is subjective, be for real, undeniably even Randy’s deeper cuts & B sides like Steal Away the Night & Tonight tower high over Bark at the Moon. Without even mentioning the clearly huge Radio staple-Sport Stadium hype Randy Rhoads mega hit songs that moved far beyond the culture of Heavy Metal, with Crazy Train & Over the Mountian. Unequivocally, Jake E Lee never wrote anything anywhere even close to the level of the songs Mr. Crowley, Revelation Mother Earth, Goodbye to Romance, Diary of a Madman or S.A.T.O…🎸
I saw Jake E Lee with Ozzy Osbourne at the monster of rock in 1984 other bands on the bill included AC/DC ,Van Halen Motley Crue Y&T and Gary Moore both Jake E Lee and Gary Moore were the best guitarist that day
Jake is still in my top 5 list after all these years. Theres not one bad thing said about him and hes loved by everyone. Great video on him with no interruptions.
Jake E. (Lee)W. Thirteen years of musicianship before climbing the stage with Ozzy Osbourne. And, reaching near epitome; to going one-step further and reaching[1980's] 1/5 Guitar-God status. Yet, still climbing. Horns out Mr. Williams. Horns out!

Jake E Lee was the best in my opinion.... many reasons why, but... main point of interest here is... He filled the ICONIC Randy Rhodes shoes after his passing... that was NO SMALL FEAT...
I always respected Jake for stepping into the impossible situation. Randy Rhodes had been deified and for a young unknown guitarist to step into that position and do what he did was remarkable. Not only did he feel the position but he made his mark with his own unique sound and aesthetic. As far as what happened with Ozzy. It's true Jake never made a personal connection with Ozzy but who can blame him, Ozzy was so trashed on drugs and alcohol he wasn't capable of sustaining a personal relationship and not worth knowing personally. As far as what happened contractually. Yes Jake signed the contract for a wage. But Sharon took it upon herself to change the songwriting credits and make sure that the band members did not get the songwriting royalties that they should have received. She's always had a nasty reputation for such behavior. Be that as it may shake manage to roll on and do two albums as Badlands, and then the world turned so he went into retirement. But now he's come out of retirement and Red Dragon Cartel ably demonstrates that Jake still has something to say and I for one am glad that he's here to say it. 43 years and going strong. Still one of my all-time favorites!

Poor old zakk wylde could never even come close to the talent this man has.. not in a million years.. he might be able to cover jake and randys songs close to how they were written.. but thats about it... and it shows
I will say to you, I think the issue with Ozzy about Zakk (for me) is that Ozzy stuck with him too long. After Ozzmosis that should have been it for Mr. Pinch harmonic. So it got old to all of us hearing this guy (Zakk) play pentatonic scales. Zakk is a physical meat and potato guy, where as Jake is a fiery finesse player who is very unorthodox. But you have to admit when No Rest for the Wicked dropped. That shit was ballsy and heavy. Omg
Thank you Tim great to hear from you, If you appreciate there music then yes indeed you can rank them as they make you feel, the advanced listener or super fan will always pic there guy anyhow a college teacher of guitar will look for something else but all and all If you like him than its ok to pick him, but I understand your point, thank you so very kindly for viewing I appreciate it.
Jake was such a breath of fresh air when he arrived. Hardtail strat and loads of tricks up his sleeve. He wrote some great riffs, and why the fuck his name isn’t credited or part credited as writing Bark at the moon defies logic. Ozzy sure as hell didn’t write that riff….. a still a relevant rite of passage for many an aspiring guitar player 40 years later. After the show, he came over to me and we started talking.
I think you have seen more concerts then any of us here I think Lol, Pretty cool you Met Jake E Lee Nice fella I understand.
The guy's recorded works are right up there with anyone on a playing level and with regards to writing/composition. Incredible. Just Badlands alone...amazing.
Jake was the John 5 of the 80s,, from 80 to 88 this man on top,, those two albums with Ozzy guitar wise was amazing
Very cool to watch also.
No he was the Jake E Lee of the eighties.
To me one of the best! Very under rated.
A Good guy also that's always a plus
Heck yeah I was pissed at Sharon for wrecking another good thing. She sucks cause Jake E. Lee was incredible and still is!
Jake E. Lee is definitely NOT underrated. He's one of the most respected and highly regarded guitarists in rock.
Very happy to have seen Jake live with Ozzy back in the day... That first guitar solo you show is just epic...
Yes indeed Sir, and thank you kindly for watching
Ozzy trying to rip his hair out
@@scottgarber4558 Lol yeah, Bang Zoom, one of these days Ozzy, just kidding. Thanks for viewing.
Hands down, Jake is one of my all time favorites… not only for his soloing, but for his unique rhythms. The chords he chose were fucking fantastic… great player, very overlooked.
He came out of that group of “legendary LA Strip players” from the late ‘70s =
Eddie Van Halen
Randy Rhoads
George Lynch
Jake E Lee
Warren DeMartini
…and a couple others.
Was an extraordinary era ❤
Jake E Lee was phenomenal.
He's top 5 in my list no matter what he plays ....i just love his playing!
Certainly a great song writer that's for sure, thank you Robert for viewing I appreciate it

One of my favorite guitarist. Very clever guitar player! 🎸
He's one of my favourite guitar players of all time, he's so bloody talented, I LOVE HIM!!
I always thought it was interesting how Jake puts his signature on the Randy Rhoads Ozzy tunes on the live recordings. He’s in my top 5 all time list.
@@CS-ru4xd Good point's Sir
Mine too
Jake is a legend! He never sounded like anyone else and no one else ever sounds like him.Original style flash chops presence and awesome songs.
I'm glad Jake seems to be getting his flowers, even if it's long overdue. Lots of people starting to realise how amazing he is. Bark at the Moon has some of the best riffs ever put together.
I am happy for him as well, a good guy.
I would argue that The Ultimate Sin had better riffs....all amazing, nonetheless
Also the challenge of doing it right just recorded a cover of bark where in playing all the parts
@@Thrash_ranch these bands mostly had their influences and blues and they played more of a bluesy metal than a straight metal.
@@chriskroll4166 early NWOBHM bands for that matter, almost all of them took their influences from Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Vaughn
@@Thrash_ranch whenever I listen to those 80's bands I hear a lot of led Zeppelin also . Aerosmith too .😁
Damn what a Great list.
Jakes a good player but nothing great .
@@herbcanter2114 Opinions vary..........
As the years pass, Jake’s unique genius becomes more apparent.
I like how he reverse-slanted the bridge pickup on his Charvel Strats to give his sound a thickness and bite it otherwise wouldn't have.
Interesting, thank you , I Didn't know that, appreciate it, thank you for viewing, my 100th video is next.
I also reverse the bridge pickup angle on Fender style Telecasters away from the treble side of the bridge which gives the effect of playing the guitar in an upside down orientation as if Paul McCartney or Jimi Hendrix often played the right handed instruments left-handed
My favorite guitarist Amazing style, Hair, looks and playing and probably the best moves in heavy metal. A complete player and show man.
He was pretty cool, I agree, thank you for viewing
He is a monster player and showman.
The look, the sound, the chops, the flash. Hell yes he had it all. (still does)
Very Cool guy that's for sure.
One of my all time favorite guitar players, Jake E. Lee, LOVE HIM!
A Real Good Guy humble & certainly a True Rock Star.
I guess you haven’t seen him in the US festival, if had you wouldn’t have said anything about him not missing a lick or phrasing on Randy’s work.
Badlands was one of my favorites back in the day. Probably the most under-rated band of the 90's.
Nobody sounds like Jake.
He certainly is part of the most talented and amazing to see and hear. Very creative musician I love his playing!!! This is a cool tribute to him thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Thank you ever so kindly for appreciating my video compilation of Jake E Lee, always nice to hear.
LOL
As far as chops are concerned, I always ponder what Randy might have become with another decade to develop once the genre had taken off.
The best guitarist indeed , seen him live when I was 12 , still my favourite, Love Jake E Lee

He was always my favorite Ozzy guitarist.
a true fan, thank you sir
Randy changed the game Jake was just another Randy Eddie hybrid
I have got to say Jake E Lee is absolutely amazing and extremely talented! What a fantastic soul !

Jake E Lee was the best in my opinion.... many reasons why, but... main point of interest here is... He filled the ICONIC Randy Rhodes shoes after his passing... that was NO SMALL FEAT...
I agree with that statement, no doubt Intimidating.
Jake you are no doubt an iconic musician. You've been an all time favorite of mine. Keep on rocking.
Sir yes Sir, thanks for viewing Joel
That certainly had to be frightening for Jake and Brad Gillis for that matter, So sad Randy Rhoads died like that.
I liked your outro jams . Without your video I would have never known who Jake E . Lee is and what a great musician he is . Keep up the good work .

Seen so makes for quite the history, I am glad you tell me what you like snd the way I put it together this way I can better develop The Temple in the right direction, Thank you for viewing Michael.
Omg
I'm not really talented or skilled enough to an answer...however, I can say he is one of my favorites to ever watch.
No, Michael Schenker is the most prolific and greatest living rock guitarist/composer - 1969 to present - hundreds of excellent songs
I was a big fan also MSG Group.
Jake one of my faves from the 80s 🎸 one of the best out of many great guitarist
Criag Goldy was also amazing.
Without doubt, A real good guy also, very kind, he liked Ronnie very much, thank you Sir for viewing I Appreciate it.
Without doubt Sir, and a very very nice guy as well, thank you so much for viewing I appreciate it.
Saw him and met him in ‘84 when the BAM tour hit Dublin - bunked off skool😂
Still have his pick.
I wish him well and hope he continues to perform and play and stay in the limelight. He deserves his spot in the history of rock guitar legends, cause he’s up there with the best of em!
I Can agree with your statement & thank you for viewing.
@@theguitartemplepriest Very welcome. 😎
