Hey everyone thanks for watching! So I said Brad Gillis was fired but by like all accounts he left of his own volition to continue with Night Ranger and make the hit “Sister Christian” and thus he more likely FIRED OZZY from HIS LIFE. Chalk that one up to my brain damage, I did him dirty! Let it be known. Love ya
Do your best to cope with a toxic ozzy and have credentials to your name down the road or go record Sister Christian with a wack ass band like night ranger....guess he didn't want a legacy lol
We saw Brad play shortly after Randy's passing. Brad was fantastic.
i dont think that brad gillis's style really suits ozzy's music.
@@MadSciRexieFi He stepped up when he had to. Not an enviable position. We saw night ranger the next year at the same place when they opened up for kiss
@@MadSciRexieFi I’m a big big fan of Black Label Society too. Same sound like he plays with Ozzy, much more “metal” and Zakk’s vocals are hardcore. A saw BLS at Aftetshock and the ripped off a killer set.
jake e lee is my fav ozzy guitarist.
Sadly Jake never recovered from the firing. Ozzy and Sharon ruined him just like many employers destroy careers.
He’s everyone’s fave
@@evanoglesby9504 maybe it was comment bait for the video poster to act like he wasn't?
@@GerhardGeficky-jg4ok The problem may have been that Jake E Lee was more of a guitarist than musician? I think it was a common problem among 80s guitar gods who followed Rhoads and Van Halen. They worked on the techniques more than the music. I love Jake E Lee as a guitarist and I think he is a good musician in the context of another songwriters great song, but he was never able to be compelling enough to start his own thing. Even Satriani and Vai and Malmsteen are boring to me, because they are also guitarists but not musicians. Music is not about just doing just a bunch of magic tricks onstage; it is about using songs to say something (more important than "look how great i play") that resonates with an audience. Lots of musicians actually suck at guitar, or any instrument (including voice) but they create music that people can relate to, and it is not just because people that don't get the shred are idiots. Shred, esp. in the 80s, can seem quite assholishly macho. But when shred is put into the service of a message (and is not the message itself) than it can be effective. I have a good idea what Ozzy's message to the world is all the way back to Black Sabbath, but what is Jake E. Lee's message to the world? As "great "of a guitarist he is (at least by shred standards of greatness), He's never made a compelling musical statement of his message to us.
Nah Brad Gillis was better
Bro, Joe Holmes was AMAZING live. He never gets enough credit because he wasn't on any albums. Dude was LEGIT.
Saw him at ozzfest in 98. Awesome.
Damn right. Also a really good guy. His band (Farmikos) was also great but only put out one album. I also saw him live with Ozzy in Sioux Falls SD on the Retirement Sucks tour and Joe was incredible.
Joe's a buddy of mine, used to go to his house and watch his band TERRIFF play on Friday nights. Same time he was taking lessons from Randy Rhoads.
And he was a student of Randy Rhoads 😊
He is very good but I find his vibrato is usually a bit out, not as precise as Zak or Jake for sure......I think Jake was the best actually of all
Jake E Lee ultimate sin best album imo
Jake playing is amazing.
I was fortunate enough to see Ozzy with Randy 2X, Jake 3X and Zakk 2x. All different flavors, but all AWESOME.
I saw Ozzy twice. First time on the Ozzmosis tour with Joe Holmes on guitar. Was a bit disappointed because I never heard Zakk couldn't do the tour despite of having played on the album. The second was a few years later and Zakk was back. Great to see him live.
well said sir they are all awesome in there own way
Lucky B#st#rd
jealous!
@@dalebingham9074 Hey we always have RUclips bro!!!
Jake E Lee ruled... needs more credit. Randy Rhodes was one the greatest all time players.
Needs more credit?? Like, 90% of Ozzy fans claim him as their favorite. What do you mean he needs more credit?
Love all of Ozzy's guitarists, especially Jake E. Lee. Great vid and great editing.
Zakk is the reason i picked up a guitar and decided to learn to play.
Jake E was always my favorite.
I saw Ozzy with Randy Rhoads. He was awesome. I didn't care for Jack E Lee as much. Last time I saw Ozzy live, Gus G was his guitarist and he was really cool.
Randy Rhoads totally SAVED Ozxy's career single handedly ! Taught him how to write music ! Randy Rhoads was and still is TOTAL FUCKING GENIUS !!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Bob Daisley waa extremely important to Ozzy's solo career as well as Randy on the first two Ozzy albums.
I don't think Ozzy ever learned how to write . Bob Daisley was asked to come back to write for Bark at the Moon .
Rhoads was a good Guitarist period he was nothing compared to EVH .. Jimi Hendrix and few others Rhoads never even received best guitarist of the year when he was alive..EVH Ruled that from 1978 into the 2000's
@@BlueberryStinkFinger62you're goddamn right about that!
Jake e lee. RR sucks
randy rhoads and jake e lee the better better better better better.
Brad Gillis was not fired he chose to leave because Night Ranger was just about to take off and he preferred to stay with them.
Probably the only ozzy guitar player to not get totally ripped off by ozzy & co.
@@Mr.H0LLYW00D cause he would get his ass kicked...
Brad is a good guitar player
Thanks for the nice mention & very well done video! 👍🏻👍🏻😎
😯Thanks Gus! I'm totally doing the Wayne and Garth "We're not worthy!!" bow to you right now!
I had Zakk Wyld on my shoulders at the Backroom club in Austin, back in the mid 90's.
He put my cowboy hat on and I pranced him around the place!~ Memories!~
Wait, where's Brad Gillis? Come on, man, are you trying to tell me that the Speak of the Devil album doesn't really count or exists in an alternate timeline??
He's mentioned quickly right after Randy
Monstrous versions of Sabbath classics on that album. Since it was my very first exposure to Black Sabbath’s music as a kid , I still to this day prefer some of the Speak versions to the originals. Brad did a fantastic job for Ozzy. Doesn’t get nearly enough credit.
Great info on joe holmes. I didnt realize he was with Ozzy for that long. Jake and Randy will always be in my top 5. Good stuff👍👍
Glad to see Jake is getting some deserved appreciation in the comments.
Zakk as always been my favorite. He just had everything and not just the playing but the songwriting abilities the look and some of the coolest guitars ever made. Zakk, Randy Rhoads, and Dimebag are my three favorite guitarists of all time
I gotta say. GREAT video. Here I thought that I was all up to speed on all of Ozzie’s guitarist. Hell I didn’t know some of those players played for him. So yeah, sure, I’ve learned some things. Ozzie has always had his pic of the litter.
What I would give to see Jake E. Lee and Randy form a super group. Imagine the riffs that would gove life to.
Great video . From what I have read Brad was not fired . He was offered the opportunity to stay but he chose to go back to Night Ranger .
Exactly right.
I saw Randy twice live... Capitol theater Passaic Nj Apr 81 and The Palladium NYC May 81....studio albums cant compare to him live...just unbelivable.
I’m very jealous. I would have loved to see him live!
The one guitarists I never seen but wanted to. I ended up seeing Brad Gillis.
We need to pay more attention to Joe Holmes, loved his playing live, so underrated
Saw him with Ozzy twice. The first performance (Brixton) was far from polished with a few glances of frustration from Ozzy. The next was much later in Memphis. By then the band was tight but Joes stage presence was weak with him mostly walking in small circles on his side of the stage.
I would love to visit the alternate universe where Randy and Cliff Burton lived and worked together on some music. I think they would have been a really interesting pairing.
Excellent vid . All those guitar players are exceptional ! Randy a cut above the rest and Jake being my favourite ( i got into Ozzy with the bark at the moon album).
Great video. Definitely be checking out your other content.
Man, these videos are great.
Not only do you approach niche topics seldom covered otherwise, but the down-to-earth approach that focuses on actual lived experience/preference and what it was like at the time means you can avoid the bells and whistles that other creators rely on and just focus on substance.
Cheers and keep up the great work!
Randy was a God to me as a young beginner guitarist in the early 80’s
Nicely put together. It was entertaining. it was fun and you presented it well.
Thanks for the good. Thumbs up for you man 💯
I got to see randy Rhoades with ozzy in pine bluff arkansas
Well done. Great video with amazing content I've never seen before. Excellent job sir.
Jake E. Lee for me nr. 1.And Bark at The Moon and Ultimate Sin is Ozzys best album, mostly because of Jake.
I always thought it was cool of Ozzy to feature an acoustic guitar instrumental on his debut record as a solo artist.
I didn’t really get turned on to Ozzy until the 90s when Zach was the guitarist and I was hooked. BLS!
This is an awesome and in depth video. Well done.
Great Video! Thanks! Great times from Rhodes to Wilde!
Randy was the greatest rock guitarist of his time, period. I think he is the greatest metal /hard rock player of all time. Keep in mind, Randy was plying like this in the mid 70’s! The man was completely ahead of his time and influenced generations of guitarist.
Jake is so underrated. He is a master of the instrument and his song writing is top notch. Zakk, one of the best to ever do it. All three of these guys are in my top 5 favorite guitarist.
Excellent work! I've been a huge Ozzy fan since the early eighties, read tons of magazine articles and books, listened to interviews and seen many videos. This video is so well done. You put a lot of effort into this and it shows!
Me to, big fan . I just wish there was more live Randy footage. There isn't much.
Amazing video and great critique of these amazing guitarists!🤘🏻🤘🏻
This was a good essay. Covered everything so well.
Jake E Lee by far the best Ozzy had
I first saw ozzy in 1988. Zakk was on fire. Though seeing Zakk with Pride and Glory was so amazing. Later in the mid 90s I saw ozzy with Joe Holmes. Joe surprised me bigtime. I wish I got to see Badlands.
Settles on Gillis?! Dude is amazing
When I was an adolescent, he’d only had 1. Not much of a discussion.
Also, Brad wasn’t fired. He left voluntarily after the tour to focus on Night Ranger.
George Lynch was supported to be 🎸 before JAKE E. LEE. Ozzy chose Jake E. Lee at the eleventh hour. All these 🎸 are amazing. Amazing video
Well played sir........ well played.
This was well done.
Bravo.
Well done video, the lore of Ozzy will forever ring!
Wow I’m a first time viewer and wow thank you for this video. Spot on !!🤘🎸 I look forward to watching more of your material ✌️
This was pretty cool, good job.
Very well done dude 🤘
Seeing Jake E Lee live in 1984 on the BATM tour, as a kid, was literally life changing for me.
That's a very well done video
outstanding video!
AWESOME vid! Can't even put into words how much I miss Jake... What an absolute MASTER!!! CRIMINALLY underappreciated!
I'm no "expert" by any stretch of the imagination; but, Jake was the only real rival to Eddie that I could see at the time. They even kinda' looked alike...
Jake was MAGIC
@@shaunclifton5281 AGREED!!!!!
@Star-qc4br That hopping up the steps backwards, his whole freakin vibe and everything. I Love Randy, but I am such a huge Jake fan. The Osbournes screw everyone over and screw everything up. That was my favorite Ozzy era. I know he hated it, but I love the wild outfits, the stage production , the hair Ozzy had then, All of that era.
@@shaunclifton5281 I couldn't agree more! I think the thing that so many either forget or overlook about that era is that it was just plain FUN! Vince Neil said a while back that the drive about that whole scene was to forget about your everyday worries, go out to a show and have a blast! I LOVE THAT! Sadly, it's also sorely missed...
As for Jake...
Jake isn't just a master musician, he's an amazing showman. The man has an air about him that no one, save for maybe Eddie, could match. Not to take anything away from other giants of the guitar, Jake is unique. He can play circles around most other guitarists, look incredible while doing it during a show and yet remain humble about himself and one of the nicest guys you'd probably ever meet. A LEGEND!
Bernie Torme class guitarist, great records with Gillian
another brilliant video, thank you! i was never interested in ozzy's solo career but i might just check some of those albums out now.
check out Ozzy's second band then, Blizzard of ozz they changed the game and surpassed Black Sabbath .
From Blizzard up until No More Tears are all pretty awesome. I wasn’t really into Ozzy when I was younger but Randy, Jake, and Zakk, but an honorable mention has to go to Brad Gillis, he filled in between Randy’s death until Jake joined and they recorded Speak of the Devil and if you’re into guitar it’s a must listen Brad Gillis stepped into an impossible job and he absolutely killed it. They played a bunch of Sabbath tunes on it too.
Gillis was always intended to be a temporary member of the band, he was helping them make the dates they were committed to, he wasn’t fired he was just filling in and always was going through with Night Ranger .
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Blizzard of Ozz is an album. this whole video was about ozzy's "solo" band, did you pay attention?
Joe Holmes was one of Randy's students
Your comments are very well thought out. I appreciate your perspective. It's not all fluff like a lot of RUclips channels are. I'm in on subscribing to you.
Long live Ozzy!!!! And damn good video my brother!!!
Glad you focused on Mr. Crowley. I had a Picture disc of Ozzy and the Live version of Crowley on that was the best. Glad you mentioned Bernie Torme Bernie was a hero to go into that position. Randy recently died, Ozzy and the band depressed. Bernie said he couldn't hear the others at MSG yet he played on. Jake E. Lee was good too. Too many waning songs with Zach but No more tears was great.
These comments are like a breath of fresh air. Thank you for the kind words.
Good job, dude.
Well done Sir🤘🤘🤘
of course they all rocked. We forget how young sometimes Zakk was to be so talented as he was.
I saw Ozzy with Zakk in Pennsylvania around 2018 was one of the best concert I ever saw
Your comments about each guitarist is a like poetry.
I love Joe Holmes playing, also he recorded an amazing album with his band Farmikos in 2014
Let’s not forget Bernie Torme.
Torme was great with Ian Gillian band glory road I think that was the name of Ian's heaviest album
I seen Ozzy in 1996. I was unaware that Zach was not playing with him and I was so depressed about it.. I love that I got to see Ozzy but I was really really down that I didn't get to see Zack with him 🥴
awesome vid
This whole topic of looking back at all his past guitarist was probably the most talked and debated conversations among fans and young amateur guitarist the world over mainly cause I can't think of another solo artist that had so many incredibly talented top tier players .I think we can all agree it was Rhoads that revived Ozzys career from the brink of obscurity to bring something so new .unique and gratifying to fans and the first to come along with the same kind of brilliance and abilities that Eddie Van Halen had brought to the industry a few years earlier when he reinvented the wheel and showed wat was actually possible from the instrument .but brought even a higher quality of songwriting with much more complexity in Randy's compositions blending classical music with Heavy Metal that came off sounding so haunting and mysterious as music from centuries past .but more than anything raised the bar for other young talented players that were influenced by the groundbreaking playing of Eddie and Randy .these two changed the game just as much as Jimi Hendrix .Jimmy Page .Jeff Beck .Eric Clapton had done decades earlier . In a way Ozzy owes his entire career to the guitar players that he chose to surround himself with .they all were the cornerstones of his music and.the key to his success .truly the heart and soul of his band from start to finish
Geez Brad was epic. Speak of the Devil is one of the best selling Ozzy albums ever. How could miss him?
I attended a few Ozzy shows with Zakk before he started shooting roids. And Jake was a BEAST; he was one of the very few metal players that didn't use a wigglestick guitar; Dave Meniketti of Y&T was another.
Sharron did get Ozzy together but as a manager she ruined him.
Bernie Torme is one. Also all these auditions that were done with Alex Skolnick, George Lynch... Steve Vai...
Should have played Jake’s live Suicide Solution solo…….
Jake E. Lee seriously deserves more attention. Bark at the Moon and Ultimate Sin hold up just as well as Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of A Madman.
I got to see all of these guitarists play live with Ozzy, except Gus G. 🤘🏼
Randy Rhoads was the perfect compliment to Ozzy. Not just his killer licks, but more so his song writing, or Riff writing. Some of the greatest rock guitar riffs ever written , imo. To me, no one ever replaced Randy. Ozzy had some amazing guitarists in the band, but no one ever laid out 2 full albums worth of iconic rock music one after the other. At least, not to my ears.
I notice Zakk borrowed a lick from Hotel California at the end of his solo on Mama I'm Coming Home.
All of them were phenomenal guitaris...t, I loved Randy and Jake... Zack was something else. And damn the man could play 💪🔥💯🎸
Because they play on Ozzy's recent Patient No. 9 album, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton should now be included on this list
My first concert was Ozzy........ Metallica was opening act promoting Ride the Lightning. Blew my mind!
Honestly it was a good thing Iommi and Butler weren’t on this list. The music they made was an absolute game-changer, revolutionary in a way that transcends genres and cements itself in history. Iommi was a riff machine well beyond anything that came later with Ozzy’s solo career. Rhoads was absolutely an amazing guitarist and advanced his instrument in the metal genre, but it’s one thing to forward a genre and it’s a whole other thing to create one.
I don't believe it is accurate, that Brad Gillis was fired from Ozzy. I think he was offered the gig, but chose to go back to his original band Night Ranger, who had some hit songs like Don't Tell Me You Love Me and Sister Christian, out around that time. I saw Brad with Ozzy at Alpine Valley Wisc., and he did an incredible job of filling in for Randy Rhoads, on I believe only about 10-14 days notice!
4:25 - 4:37 😂 that’s the best description of what happened when Ozzy went from UK Metal to US Hard Rock. ❤
Jake e Lee was the player who got my attention, played great looked the part & fit right in.
Cool narration brother! Thanks! Enjoyed it !
Always thought Jake was an amazing guitarists and really loved those 2 albums he played on - first 4 albums are classics - saw Zakk when Ozzy did a short UK tour to break him in - middle of Summer at Manchester Ritz ( which rarely had gigs then) I thought the ballroom floor was going to collapse it was bouncing so much !!!
Brad Gillis was NOT fired - he left to go back with his boys in Night Ranger. (they were on the verge of getting signed)
At one point after Randy there was a young guitarist named Curtis Fairchild who played with Ozzy.
Dave Meniketti (Y&T) was the first to be offered the job- actually had a introduction to the band- Dave turned it down to stay with his band- all in the name of Rock and Roll!
I remember being a Kid and see the video from mr Crowley and get insane thinking "well, this is what I want for life"
I think the only reason Ozzy became anything after Sabbath is because if Randy and Bob Daisley writing the kick ass tunes. The world was a lot different in 1980, i remember because I was ten years old that year and "crazy train" blew up on rock radio. There was no MTV yet, definitely no RUclips lol, so radio was everything back then, every city had at least two big rock radio stations, usually three, so good songs were the only way anyone was going to get anywhere. That song writing magic from Randy and Bob's doesn't grow on trees.
Joe went to my school, he used to bring his Marshall head to my buddy Tim Bieners house and crank it thru a little amp (crate maybe?). He played a couple open parties at my house in the late 70’s in the SF Valley when that was a thing. Agree, totally legit guitar player.
you said gus was arch enemy and i knew what he brought :)
Jake E Lee!!!!!!
Most people think Randy is ozzys best guitarist, i think Jake did the best ozzy song bark at the moon, but having said that, i think zakk is actually the best, even tho his recordings with ozzy arent as good as randys and jakes.
But zakk absolutely is a guitar monster, he can play ANYTHING.
